Election Updates - Still counting on Friday?

Update on the Ralph Nader excuse: The Libertarian candidate Jo Jorgenson was the only candidate to  appear on most every ballot in every state. No Green Party Jill Stein type candidate to offset the Libertarian in most states.

His vote total exceeded the margin between Biden and Trump in Georgia (where Trump would be ahead by about 60,000 votes if you added Jorgenson to his totals), Wisconsin (where Trump would be ahead by around 18,000 votes), Arizona (where Trump would be ahead by about 5,000 votes with more coming in), adding those states to his count (along with North Carolina) would have put him at 269 electoral college votes.

He would also be ahead in Pennsylvania right now by about 60,000 with 5% left to count.

Update on Projections: Nate Silver appears to be "lashing out" against critics who claimed he overstated the Joe Biden polling as well as pointing out that he got several Presidential and Senate states wrong (and again they all were wrong in the same direction they are always wrong for him).

His argument appears to be that he provides "percentages" which means he is not wrong. So apparently unless he projects someone with a 100% chance of winning (who goes on to lose) - he isn't wrong? What the hell is your function as a projectionist if we cannot count on your percentages to be occasionally accurate and not always leaning in the same direction.

Update on Polling: The main pollster for Quinnipiac is being called on by many to resign, but so far there is push back. Other than the obvious 11 point National lead they gave Biden, Quinnipiac had Biden up 5 in Florida (where he lost by 3) - they had Biden up by 4 in Ohio (where he lost by 8) - they had Susan Collins down by 12 points (she won by 9) - they had Lindsey Graham tied (he won by 11 points). This was an embarrassment for the once well respected pollster. But apparently misery loves company as Quinnipiac is pointing out how others were similarly wrong (just not by as much).

Update in general: Why is it that certain states are able to count their results in one night, while other states with the same population and general make up are still counting three days later? Is it general incompetence, laziness, or something else?

Update Georgia: They are headed to a recount as announced by the Secretary of State. They have a few outstanding ballots before their final count, but ultimately they are expecting to be done by "the end of November".

I would expect challenges to ballots, possibly en-masse challenges to a variety of types of ballots, etc... As it stands, it may not matter how Georgia ultimately turns out, but it would be very interesting to watch the various court challenges and such that might actually enter into place in other states (if successful).

Very important to note II: Why is holding State assemblies important? Because 2020 is a redistricting year, and it's the state legislation that has the most pull in this situation. While the courts have had something to say in recent years, those court challenge on redistricting might have different outcomes given the new alignment of the USSC. Look for more judges to stand aside and more who do step in to be overruled.

Very important to note: Republicans held on to every State assembly that they had coming into this election, and actually picked up a couple. It's only three days after the election and some have already forgotten that this was supposed to be blue wave election that changed everything in favor of the Democrats.  A week ago, they were looking at a double digit Biden win, with coattails that retook the Senate, added to their majority in the House, won back State assemblies, and ultimately would be provided with a mandate to change the basic structure of the Country.

Now it looks like Democrats are excited because they might win one thing (the Presidency) but only after several days of bitter counting and a much closer than expected result. Who knows, ultimately what lawsuits and recounts might bring? Perhaps (if nothing else) an end to the way we handle (or mishandle) our entire election counting. (More on this later).

House Humiliation for Pelosi and Fox News: Early in the night, the vaunted Fox News decision desk declared that Democrats would not only hold the House, but add to their gains. As it turns out, the Democrats only actual pickups so far are in North Carolina (which are purely a matter of redistricting). Meanwhile the Republicans have picked up eight races so far and are leading in a few others. It's highly unlikely, but mathematically possible Republican could actually take the House. They have won or lead in 215 races and 218 would give them control.

If the Republicans end up with 215 or more seats, Pelosi will have a rough time getting things done and may not even remain as Speaker. Given the "usual" first term midterm disaster that most Presidents suffer, a Republican House might be the most likely outcome after 2022.

Pennsylvania update II: That didn't take long, as Biden is now ahead of Trump in Pennsylvania. I will be curious when this is said and done to look for the same pattern there that we are seeing in state after state. Which is that Trump outperforms in most every county over 2016, but takes a crazy shellacking in one or two large counties.

You know like going from winning a county by 45,000 votes in one election to losing it by 65,000 votes in the next election, or single counties showing a 50,000 and 75,000 increases for the Democrat over 2016 in a state where Democrats lost registered voters.

Another tidbit - Looks like Trump will win more than 25 percent of the minority vote. That is the most of any Republican candidate since the 1960 election (when many Democrats were still considered sort of racist). To put this in perspective, Romney won 11% and McCain won 10%...albeit against a Black candidate. But W only averaged 13% over his two elections, Bob Dole received 12%, and Bush Sr got 11%. Reagan struggled as much as the rest.

There will be much more on what this means (and why we saw a surge of Republican wins in the House) for the future of the two Parties, but for now...let's just say that win or lose, Trump offered something that minorities feel good about (likely success rather than welfare).

Conversation with Democrat friend of mine: Even he sees no legitimate reason for poll workers in these larger Democratic counties to continue to block the legal GOP poll watchers from observing the count. He also argues that the optics are horrible and makes it "look" like they have something to hide.  He also stated that for the first time, he actually wonders if there isn't some shit going down in these counties. He admitted that if any of this was happening in heavy Trump counties that he would be the first to be making the same accusations.

Trump gains nearly seven million votes over 2016: Trump currently has approximately 69,632,000 votes so far, after garnering just under 63 million in 2016. I doubt many people would have believed that Trump could add seven million more votes (increase of about 11%) and still be looking at a loss.

Georgia Update: Georgia should now be done counting. Not because there is any actual data evidence that ballots exist or don't exist... but because now Joe Biden leads by 900 votes. Apparently people in Georgia have been counting and tabulating overnight.

Either way, this one was likely going to a recount, so who knows when this will be called. It might be interesting to watch a recount, with all of the ballot challenges and such. Might tell us if there are other legitimate challenges to make in other states.

Pennsylvania Update: Still no end in sight as the President still leads by about 20,000 votes. I figure once Biden is ahead there, we will know when they are done too. I am not certain which is harder to follow. Counting the votes or counting the lawsuits.

Biden Takes Lead In Georgia, Gains In Pennsylvania

“Joe Biden overtook President Trump in Georgia early Friday as the state’s Democratic-leaning counties reported more absentee ballots, gaining Biden a small lead. Trump must win Georgia to maintain a pathway to reelection; no Democrat has carried the state since 1992.

“But the vote counting is not yet complete. There are 8,899 requested overseas and military ballots that may arrive by the deadline Friday, plus provisional ballots left to count.

“The margin has also continued to narrow in Pennsylvania, where Trump currently leads, and in Arizona, where Biden is ahead.”

THE FACT THAT BIDEN'S ARIZONA LEAD IS DECREASING WOULD SUGGEST THAT THE COUNTING IS HONEST, WOULD IT NOT?

WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrat Joe Biden overtook President Donald Trump in the vote count in Pennsylvania and Georgia Friday morning, closing in on a presidency that hinges on the outcome of tight contests in key battleground states.

Both races remained too early to call with votes still being counted. Neither candidate has reached the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the White House, though Biden has the advantage after eclipsing Trump in Wisconsin and Michigan, two crucial Midwestern battleground states. Biden leads Trump by nearly 6,000 votes in Pennsylvania and fewer than 1,000 in Georgia.

It could take several more days for the vote count to conclude in some states, allowing a clear winner to emerge. With millions of ballots yet to be tabulated, Biden has already received more than 73 million votes nationally, the most in history

As Americans entered the third full day after the election without knowing who won the race, anxiety about the outcome was building. With his pathway to reelection appearing to narrow, Trump was testing how far he could go in using the trappings of presidential power to undermine confidence in the vote.

On Thursday, he advanced unsupported accusations of voter fraud to falsely argue that his rival was trying to seize power in an extraordinary effort by a sitting American president to sow doubt about the democratic process.

“This is a case when they are trying to steal an election, they are trying to rig an election,” Trump said from the podium of the White House briefing room.

Biden spent Thursday trying to ease tensions and project a more traditional image of presidential leadership. After participating in a coronavirus briefing, he declared that “each ballot must be counted.”

It’s Just a Matter of Time
10:03 am

Taegan Goddard says,
Decision Desk has called the presidential race for Joe Biden. The AP and television networks won’t be far behind.

I’d expect calls of Pennsylvania — and thus the presidential race — with the next wave of ballots. It looks like Biden will end up with a lead of around 80,000 to 100,000 votes in the Keystone state. That would give Biden an additional 20 electoral votes and a minimum of 273 electoral votes overall.

Biden holds a small lead in Georgia and there’s not much left to count, but it’s probably too close for a call anytime soon.

The most interesting call looks like it will be in Nevada. If the next wave of ballots comes before Pennsylvania, it may force the AP and Fox News — who both called Arizona on Election Night for Biden — to either own that call and declare Biden the president or back off and reverse it.

Trump is gaining on Biden in Arizona, but it’s also too close for the other networks to call the state.

As former Clinton White House press secretary Joe Lockhart says:

"I guarantee there is a crisis meeting going on in the boardroom at Murdoch’s Newscorp. They are deciding to cut Trump loose or stick with them. Choose wisely."

Meanwhile, CNN reports that Fox News is instructing its anchors not to call Joe Biden the “President-elect” when the network calls the race.

The memos say Fox should “stay away” from using the description.

The only question remaining is: when do we start the national celebration?

We all knew that Biden would win - we've known since 2016 that Trump would lose to whichever Democrat was nominated. Anyone with any sense that is. But it's still satisfying to watch it happen. Trump and Trumpism has been decisively rejected by Americans and all that's left is to begin the cleanup.

Quote of the Day
12:22 pm
“You can’t stop the count in one state and decide you want the count to continue in another state. That might be how you’d like to see the system work, but that’s not how the system works. Part of the obligation of leadership is you should always have in your mind how do I leave.”
— Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO), quoted by CNN.

The Election System WORKED!!!
12:08 pm
Jonathan Bernstein:
“Still counting the votes. But here’s the good news:
In the midst of a pandemic, harsh partisan polarization,
the biggest turnout in more than a century (in percentage terms)
or ever (in raw numbers),
and persistent hostility from the president,
the U.S. has pulled off what certainly appears to be a well-run, free and fair election.

“Kudos to all the state and local officials who appear to have done an excellent job,
and to the thousands of men and women who served as poll workers and who counted (or are still counting) the votes.
More than 48 hours after the polls closed, I don’t think I’ve heard a single serious complaint about election administration against either Democratic or Republican elected officials.
Yes, I’m aware of the evidence-free accusations from President Trump and his allies,
but those are actually signs that things have been well-run:
If Trump had evidence of real problems or misconduct,
he’d be parading it in front of the cameras — and, more important, in front of judges.
That hasn’t happened.”

Amen and Amen!

The Wall Street Journal reports that the President is going crazy.

Senior White House aides and political advisers have started discussing how to prepare Mr. Trump for the possibility of conceding without explicitly admitting defeat. Those talks have included plans to keep Mr. Trump on script as much as possible—always a complicated prospect—to avoid further undermining confidence in the country’s voting process, and urging him to focus on the final 75 days of his term.

The president’s mood, an adviser said, is “black.” He has spent the last few days seething over the vote count as it increasingly moves in Mr. Biden’s favor. He spent much of the day Thursday on the phone with advisers urging them to use every tool available to fight what is expected to be an election victory for Mr. Biden. A short speech Thursday evening in the White House briefing room offered a window into the president’s frustration, as he accused Democrats, pollsters and the news media of stealing the election from him.

Advisers expect the president to let his campaign’s legal efforts play out before conceding the race. One adviser, asked if he expected the president to concede the race, replied via text message: “Lol.”

Bonkers

The election is over. Send in the clowns!
Twitter troll Ric Grenell spent his time as President Trump’s ambassador to Germany offending that country and later proved too radioactive to be confirmed as national intelligence director. Now he’s trying to convince Nevadans that they didn’t really vote for former vice president Joe Biden.
“They continue to count illegal votes!” Grenell announced Thursday at a Las Vegas news conference. “It’s giving legal people a sense that the system is corrupt.”
His proof of this affront to “legal people”? A woman who alleges somebody voted in her name. Trouble is, she refused to sign a formal challenge, and her signature matches that of the mystery voter, officials say.
Reporters asked Grenell if he had any real evidence. “We don’t have access to the information,” he said, hastily departing. “We’re not going to take any more questions.”
In Pennsylvania, where Trump was initially leading in the tally, pro-Trump demonstrators massed in Philadelphia, chanting: “STOP THE COUNT!”
In Arizona, where Biden was leading in the tally, pro-Trump demonstrators massed in Phoenix, chanting: “COUNT THE VOTES!”
They chanted this right outside the Maricopa County Elections Department, where officials were, um, counting the votes.
In Georgia, Trump campaign lawyers marched into a Savannah courtroom to challenge 53 ballots that one Republican poll watcher claimed “may have” arrived after the deadline on Election Day. The county lawyer asked the poll watcher if he had any evidence. The poll watcher did not.
“The court finds that there is no evidence that the ballots referenced in the petition were received after 7:00 p.m.,” the judge ruled. Case dismissed.
In Michigan, the Trump campaign went to court to stop the counting because a Republican poll watcher claimed she’d heard from one unnamed election worker that another unnamed election worker had said to backdate late-arriving ballots.
“How is that not hearsay?” asked the judge. “Come on, now.” Case dismissed.
In Arizona, the Trump campaign joined a lawsuit based on a debunked Internet conspiracy theory falsely alleging that Maricopa County had invalidated ballots filled out with Sharpies. County officials point out that the voting-machine manufacturer actually recommends using Sharpies. Trump lawyers said they needed two weeks to build their case. “I don’t think that’s feasible,” the judge said.
Trump did win one ruling, allowing poll watchers to ignore pandemic restrictions and to get up close to vote counters. “Big legal win in Pennsylvania!” Trump proclaimed.
That was probably Trump’s most responsible pronouncement this week.
“Our campaign has been denied access to observe any counting in Detroit,” he said. There were more than 100 poll observers from each party in Detroit, reports NBC News’s Heidi Przybyla, who was there.
“If you count the legal votes, I easily win,” Trump said, attempting to invalidate 64 million legal ballots received before Election Day

Trump claimed that the yet-to-be-decided states “are run in all cases by Democrats.” Georgia’s governor and secretary of state are Trump-backing Republicans.

Alternate reality show. A conservative thinks the liberal Democrat are evildoers,

The Disinformationists

(AP Photo/Jose Luis Magana, LM Otero, Jens Meyer)

A republic is not just a nation of laws. It also relies on its good-faith watchdogs, such as honest pollsters, the media and bipartisan institutions.

We still didn't know the final result of Tuesday's presidential election as of Wednesday night. But there are lots of reasons to worry that something in America has gone terribly wrong.

Many of the mainstream pre-election polls predicted that Donald Trump would lose in a landslide. He did not -- to the shock of a host of propagandists.

A CNN poll had Trump down 12 percentage points nationally entering the final week before the election. An ABC News/Washington Post poll in late October claimed Biden was leading in Wisconsin by 17 points. That state's voting ended up nearly even. YouGov's election model showed Biden prevailing with a landslide win in the Electoral College. Progressive statistics guru Nate Silver had for weeks issued pseudo-scientific analyses of a Trump wipeout.

Pollsters were widely wrong in 2016. Yet they learned nothing about their flawed methodologies. So how do they remain credible after 2020, when most were wildly off again?

A cynic might answer that polling no longer aims to offer scientific assessments of voter intentions.

Pollsters, the vast majority of them progressives, have become political operatives. They see their task as ginning up political support for their candidates and demoralizing the opposition. Some are profiteering as internal pollsters for political campaigns and special interests.

Never again will Americans believe these "mainstream" pollsters' predictions because they have been exposed as rank propagandists.

That bleak assessment won't make much difference to pollsters. They privately understand what their real mission has become and why they are no longer scientific prognosticators.

Big liberal donors sent cash infusions totaling some $500 million into Senate races across the country to destroy Republican incumbents and take back the Senate. In the end, they may have failed to change many of the outcomes.

But did they really fail?

Democrats dispelled the fossilized notion that "dark money" is dangerous to politics. They are now the party of the ultra-rich, at war with the middle classes, whom they write off as clingers, deplorables, dregs and chumps.

In that context, the staggering amounts of money were a valuable marker. The liberal mega-rich are warning politicians that from now on, they will try to bury populist conservatives with so much oppositional cash that they would be wise to keep a low profile.

Winning is not the only aim of lavish liberal campaign funding. Deterring future opponents by warning them to be moderate or go bankrupt is another motivation.

Twitter co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey seemed unapologetic that his company was systematically censoring and de-platforming conservative users. In a recent hearing he talked to members of the Senate as if he were a 19th century railroad baron.

Google has been accused of massaging its search results to favor progressive agendas. During the final weeks of the campaign, social media platforms shut down accounts and censored ads and messages, providing an enormously valuable gift to Joe Biden.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Silicon Valley, like the 19th century oil, rail and sugar trusts, sees no reason to hide its partisanship and clout.

The media coverage of the election was unsavory. Journalists confirmed the findings of Harvard University's Shorenstein Center, which in an assessment of news coverage of Trump's first 100 days in office found that 80 percent of the coverage was negative.

As in the fashion of the Russian collusion hoax, the media for weeks on end revved up their engines for a seemingly certain Biden landslide victory. They rarely cross-examined Biden on the issues. And they certainly stayed clear of the Biden family influence-peddling scandal.

What do all these power players -- big polling, big money, big tech and big media -- have in common other than their partisanship and their powerful reach?

One, they stereotypically represent a virtue-signaling coastal elite that feels its own moral superiority allows it to destroy its own professional standards.

Two, they worry little about popular pushback because they assume that their money, loaded surveys and internet and media cartels create, rather than reflect, public opinion.

Three, while these elite cadres have enormous resources, they still are relatively unpopular. Despite being outspent 2-to-1, pronounced doomed by pollsters, often censored on social media, and demonized in print and on television, Trump was neck and neck with Biden -- a fact that a few days ago was deemed impossible.

If Biden wins, we should assume that in late January 2021 these same forces will regroup to frame a new post-election narrative.

Expect our Big Brothers to instruct Americans that the COVID-19 pandemic is mutating into little more than a bad flu.

The "Biden vaccine" and miraculous "Biden recovery" will have ended the need for Trump-era lockdowns.

And the rioting, looting and arson?

They will all have miraculously disappeared because the disuniter and inciter Donald Trump is now gone.

The White House is a super spreader

Mark Meadows, the White House chief of staff who abided by President Trump’s efforts to play down the coronavirus throughout the summer, has contracted the virus himself, a senior administration official said on Friday night.

Mr. Meadows tested positive for the virus on Wednesday, the official said, and he told a small group of advisers. A Trump campaign adviser, Nick Trainer, has also learned he has the virus, a person briefed on his diagnosis said.

And four other White House officials tested positive for the virus, a person familiar with the diagnoses told The New York Times. Bloomberg News also reported on the additional cases.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

THE NATION is in a perilous moment. Never in modern times has an apparently outgoing president behaved so disgracefully, fanning baseless claims of election fraud rather than preparing to concede, as anyone who cared about democracy would. As President Trump spreads lies, social media lights up with wild conspiracy theories backed by no evidence. Armed protesters are turning up at vote-counting locations. History will remember who, at this dangerous time, helped American democracy — and who helped Mr. Trump undermine American democracy.
A depressing number of top Republicans have echoed Mr. Trump in casting doubt on orderly, legal, fully witnessed vote-counting, particularly in Philadelphia, where no credible evidence of substantial irregularities has been found. “Philadelphia elections are crooked as a snake,” Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (S.C.), the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, said Thursday. “Why are they shutting people out?” (Philadelphia officials have allowed observers throughout the vote-counting and live-streamed the process.) Sen. Ted Cruz (Tex.) said “that’s exactly right” when Fox News host Sean Hannity asked him whether Pennsylvania should conduct a “do-over” election. “Republicans will not be silenced,” tweeted House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (Calif.). “We demand transparency. We demand accuracy. And we demand that the legal votes be protected.”
Some Republicans pushed back. “There is no defense for the President’s comments tonight undermining our Democratic process. America is counting the votes, and we must respect the results as we always have before,” Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan responded Thursday. “The president’s speech last night was very disturbing to me because he made very, very serious allegations without any evidence to support it,” Sen. Patrick J. Toomey (Pa.) said Friday. “He is wrong to say that the election was rigged, corrupt and stolen — doing so damages the cause of freedom here and around the world, weakens the institutions that lie at the foundation of the Republic, and recklessly inflames destructive and dangerous passions,” Sen. Mitt Romney (Utah) tweeted Friday.
And many Republicans, such as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.), tried to hedge their bets, neither repeating nor disputing Mr. Trump’s lies. “Every legal vote should be counted,” he tweeted Friday, a seemingly neutral statement nevertheless designed to imply that late-counted Biden votes might not be legitimate. “All sides must get to observe the process,” he continued, dignifying a bogus Trump complaint about election observers in Philadelphia. This wink-and-nod approach is not good enough. It is time for everyone in a position of responsibility to declare that the president’s allegations are false and that no fraud is occurring, just as Mr. Hogan and Mr. Toomey did.

Philadelphia police detained two armed men Thursday who had driven to the city’s vote-counting center from another state. Continued instigation from the president and his allies could provoke serious violence. It would also sap the confidence and trust without which no democracy can flourish. There can be no excusing the politicians who cynically amplify Mr. Trump’s baseless, inflammatory conspiracy theories, nor those who cower in what they imagine to be a middle ground. There is no middle ground between the truth and Mr. Trump’s lies.

Follow the latest on Election 2020

Trump Fails to Make Headway on Legal Cases
11:45 pm
“President Trump’s bellicose pledge to fight the outcome of the election in the courts crashed on Friday into skeptical judges, daunting Electoral College math and a lack of evidence for his claims of fraud,” the New York Times reports.

“None of the dozen or so lawsuits they had brought in battleground states appeared to be gaining any traction in the courts. And in any case, none seemed likely to give Mr. Trump the edge he would need in vote counts in the states that will determine the outcome.”

Laura Ingraham Suggests Trump May Lose
11P:27pm
Fox News host Laura Ingraham prepared her viewers for the reality that Donald Trump was about to lose the presidential race.

Said Ingraham: “If and when it’s time to accept an unfavorable outcome in this election, and we hope it never comes President Trump needs to do it with the same grace and composure that he demonstrated at that town hall with Savannah Guthrie.”

She added: “Losing, especially when you believe the process wasn’t fair, it’s a gut punch. And I’m not conceding anything tonight, by the way, but losing, if that’s what happens, it’s awful. But President Trump’s legacy will only become more significant if he focuses on moving the country forward.”

Bloomberg:
Mark Meadows Tests Positive for Coronavirus

White House chief of staff Mark Meadows has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Meadows informed a close circle of advisers just after the election.

The Washington Post:
Meadows Told Others Not to Disclose He Tested Positive
7:47 am
White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, who has tested positive for the coronavirus, told others not to disclose his condition, the Washington Post reports.

“On Election Day, Meadows visited the Trump campaign headquarters in Arlington, where he was photographed not wearing a mask.”

“Meadows was also among those in the East Room of the White House when Trump gave remarks around 3 a.m. Wednesday to a crowd of about 150 of his top aides, donors and allies, as well as family members. During that event, Meadows worked the room extensively, without a mask, speaking to dozens. He stood near Trump campaign adviser Corey Lewandowski, one of the few people there who was wearing a mask.”

Axios:
Why People Struggle with Election Expectations
7:37 am
“A 2020 paper found that election forecasts — which can translate what appear to be small polling gaps between candidates into fairly large probabilities that one will ultimately win — are often badly mischaracterized by the public.”

“One-third of study subjects in the paper thought a candidate with an 80% chance of winning had the support of 80% of voters — which is very much not the case.”

Vote Count Slows to a Crawl
6:57 am
“As Day 4 of the United States election turned into Day 5 on Saturday, the race for president appeared to slow to a crawl.

“Saturday morning could yet bring decisive news: Pennsylvania could move out of recount territory if the margin widens, and Arizona and Nevada were expected to declare new votes. But whereas 24 hours earlier, all-night ballot counting had given Joseph R. Biden Jr. the lead in Georgia, the early hours of Saturday seemed comparatively sedate. Nothing was changing, and nobody was quite sure when it would.”

Wall Street Journal:
Aides Say Trump Has No Legal Strategy
7:01
“Some advisers have privately said they see little path forward, politically or legally, that would prevent Mr. Trump from becoming the first president to lose reelection since 1992.”

“Among the president’s advisers, finger-pointing over the campaign’s legal strategy has intensified in recent days, White House and campaign aides said. Aides have expressed acute frustration over what many see as a slapdash legal effort, complaining that—even though Mr. Trump spent months telegraphing his intent to fight the election outcome in the courts—there wasn’t enough planning ahead of Election Day and has been little follow-through on decisions made this week. For days after the election, advisers said they didn’t know who was in charge of the strategy.”

New York Times: With no evidence of fraud, Trump fails to make headway on legal cases.

POLITICO:
Why the Networks Aren’t Making a Call
7:56 am
“Truth is, it’s not just the certainty of projecting any one state that’s causing newsrooms across the country pause right now. It’s the fact that calling any of them will — at least by the Associated Press and Fox counts — put Biden at 270 or beyond. No network wants to be forced to retract a call.”

The Presidential Endgame
8:03 am

New from the Wall Street Journal editorial page:
“Mr. Trump’s legacy will be diminished greatly if his final act is a bitter refusal to accept a legitimate defeat. Republican officials will turn away, and eventually so will the American public that wants to see the election resolved.”

“Mr. Trump hates to lose, and no doubt he will fight to the end. But if defeat comes, he will serve himself and his country best by honoring America’s democratic traditions and leaving office with dignity.”
Jake Sherman:

Trump’s Biggest Unforced Error
8:00 am
“For all the talk in GOP circles about the genius in the president’s political orbit, dumping on mail-in and absentee balloting for months will go down as one of the dumbest political decisions of all time.”

New blacklist of 'Trump sycophants' inspired by AOC being compiled

At the behest of 'squad' member and New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a blacklist of "Trump sycophants"—entitled "The Trump Accountability Project"—is archiving the names of individuals who "elected, served, funded, supported, and represented" President Donald Trump.

"Is anyone archiving these Trump sycophants for when they try to downplay or deny their complicity in the future? I foresee decent probability of many deleted Tweets, writings, photos in the future," the US representative tweeted Friday afternoon.

"Yes, we are," answered former Obama administration staffer Michael Simon, citing the Trump Accountability Project. "Every Administration staffer, campaign staffer, bundler, lawyer who represented them — everyone."

On the website's landing page, it urges urges that "[w]e must never forget those who helped further the Trump agenda," adding that "the world should never forget those who, when faced with a decision, chose to put their money, their time, and their reputations behind separating children from their families, encouraging racism and anti-Semitism, and negligently causing the unnecessary loss of life and economic devastation from our country's failed response to the COVID-19 pandemic."

The site is a self-described "permanent record" of those who elected the president, including Trump campaign staffers, Republican National Committee members, and affiliated PACs in 2016 or 2020.

"What is becoming clearer each hour is that record numbers of Americans from all races, faiths, regions chose change over more of the same... We've rebuilt the Blue Wall across this country that crumbled just four years ago.

TRUMP on Thursday:
“Joe Biden should not wrongfully claim the office of the President! I could make that claim also. Legal proceedings are just now beginning!”

But early on Wednesday, Trump had already asserted that he had the election.
"We will win this, and as far as I'm concerned we already have,” Trump told supporters in the East Room of the White House. “Our numbers started miraculously getting whittled away, in secret. This is a case where they’re trying to steal an election. They’re trying to rig an election. And we can’t let that happen.”

Trump’s speech drew sharp rebukes from Republicans and Democrats alike, many of whom said it had done damage to the trust Americans have in the institution of voting.

Only once in the past 30 years have more Americans voted for a Republican: in 2004, when President George W. Bush beat John Kerry by about three million votes. But three times, a Republican has been elected.

Mr. Biden is very likely to win the Electoral College, avoiding another split with the popular vote. But the prolonged uncertainty in spite of the public’s fairly decisive preference — Mr. Biden’s current vote margin is larger than the populations of more than 20 states, and larger than Hillary Clinton’s margin in 2016 — has intensified some Americans’ anger at a system in which a minority of people can often claim a majority of power.

and the wealthy ARE paying more in taxes. Trump's tax cut allowed only the first $10,000 in SALT taxes to be allowed to be written off on a federal return. the rich EVERYWHERE, but especially here in NY were howling. Cuomo and Schumer screamed bloody murder when that law was imposed.

so yes, the rich DID pay more in taxes, pederast.

and SOMEBODY has to pay more? how about we just spend LESS on behalf of everyone. 70% of our annual budget is entitled free shit. that's been on a path of unsustainability for DECADES. we know this but choose to ignore it. and the left, in their infinite wisdom thinks the answer is making even MORE people completely dependent upon government for their survival. and all that requires is punishing the most successful. whee!

this is why i despise the left, pederast. the left has no viable solutions. none. the math never even comes close to adding up.

all the left ever has is an unquenchable thirst for power. and all they ever produce is a mountain of lies to disguise their true intent.

Election results 2020: Why a winner hasn't been declared in the presidential race in North Carolina

The race between President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden in NC is extremely close and still too early to call. Trump still leads Biden by about 76,000 votes. Trump has 2,732,782 votes to Biden's 2,656,303.
Saturday, November 7, 2020 8:01AM

County boards of elections will continue to meet through November 13 to consider additional absentee by-mail ballots that arrive at their offices through November 12.

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- It's four days after Election Day and races in North Carolina remain up in the air -- including who won the presidential race in our state.

Many other states have been called -- so what's the hold up in the Tar Heel state?

The race between President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden is still extremely close and too early to call as we await the counting of absentee and provisional ballots.

More ballots were processed on Friday, but not enough to make much of a difference. Trump still leads Biden by about 76,000 votes. Trump has 2,732,782 votes to Biden's 2,656,303.

As of Friday, there were still 99,000 outstanding mail-in ballots.

Due to how close the election is in several swing states, like North Carolina, a federal judge in Washington D.C. ordered U.S. Postal Service inspectors to sweep mail processing facility to make sure there were no stray ballots that had not been counted.

In North Carolina, inspectors uncovered just over 500 ballots that had been mailed in before the election deadline, but not yet delivered to the Board of Elections. The majority of those ballots were in the Charlotte area.

All of the ballots have since been delivered to the Board of Elections and will be counted.

Over the next few days, state Board of Elections officials said they would be checking the names of those who voted in-person against the names of the outstanding absentee ballots to eliminate their names from the absentee ballot list.

An additional 31,317 ballots arrived with the necessary postmark as of Friday morning, bringing the total number of absentee ballots cast to 977,186.

Nine county boards of elections met Friday to consider a total of at least 4,300 additional absentee by-mail ballots, and approved ballots will be added to the unofficial results on the State Board of Elections website after the meetings. County boards of elections will continue to meet through November 13 to consider additional absentee by-mail ballots that arrive at their offices through November 12, provided they were postmarked on or before Election Day.

Absentee ballots had to be postmarked on or before Election Day and they are counted as long as they are received by the county board of elections by 5 p.m. Nov. 12. Any mail-in ballot that arrived after 5 p.m. on Monday did not count toward the Election Day total.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

Provisional ballots also weren't part of Election Day totals.

The State Board of Elections and county boards of elections have been inundated with questions from North Carolina voters about whether their ballot was counted in the 2020 election.

At noon on Thursday, the State Board of Elections reported that 40,766 were submitted. Provisional ballots cast on Election Day must still be researched to determine voter eligibility.

Most of the provisional ballots were cast in Wake and Mecklenburg counties with 3,437 and 2,483 respectively.

In 2016, State Board of Elections Executive Director Karen Brinson Bell said, North Carolina had 61,000 provisional ballots. Less than half, approximately 27,000, ended up being counted.

A voter might receive a provisional ballot if a voter's record of registration cannot be found, a voter provides an address different from the voter's registered address, a voter was previously registered in the county but the registration was canceled, an election official is unable to locate a voter's address in the county's street lookup files, a voter's record indicates that the voter has already cast a ballot in the election or a voter requests to vote at a polling place on Election Day that is not the voter's proper precinct.

Those ballots aren't processed until they are inspected, reviewed and opened at an open meeting of the county board of elections.

State officials have until Nov. 12 to count all of the remaining ballots.

County boards of elections will hold their canvass meeting at 11 a.m. November 13.

For that reason, it is unlikely that a winner in North Carolina will be declared before then.

When Brinson Bell was asked by during a news conference on Wednesday if there would be any movement in the state's numbers before that date, she said "very few exceptions" would make that happen.

The State Board will meet on November 24 to certify the election.

Do I regret opposing Hillary? Of course not. I opposed her in the Primary because I realized that she was the *only* candidate that Trump might actually beat. History has proven me 100% right and we suffered four years of Trump's destruction and utter stupidity because of her nomination.

I regret that the Democrats were so drunk with power that they tried to coronate a candidate with such obvious flaws, and I regret that there are still Democrats who can't admit what a colossal mistake that was. But I do have hope that we've all learned not to back candidates like Hillary and Trump now.

Funny.....my thought was Trump was the only R of that group she could beat.....amazing how things work out in the long run!!!!!!

Which was also true, that Trump was the only R that Hillary might beat. Unelectable vs the worst possible candidate.

We'll never know if a Hillary term would have been worse than Trump, but we do know that our system went off the rails in 2016.

But let's just say for now: America is BACK!
