This guy has become the legal voice of reason

Along with Andrew McCarthy, Jonathan Turley has become a solid voice of reason in an otherwise partisan world

To be perfectly clear, I don't believe that Trump is going to win these lawsuits and reverse the results of the election. I haven't believed that these lawsuits were anything more than a nuisance since the beginning, even if I wish there was a legal manner to take them more seriously.

The manner in which election lawsuits work simply does not allow for the concept of investigation of aberrations, oddities, or even affidavits of people who saw questionable behavior.  But rather an election lawsuit requires that the proof of election fraud already exists and that evidence is in hand. In some ways, there simply isn't enough time to get into discovery, subpoena witnesses, gather evidence, or the sorts of things that most litigation requires. Because of time limitations, we generally rush almost immediately into the end game, which makes the burden on the plaintiff much too difficult for 99 out of 100 situations.

But the reality is that there is still legal maneuvering that can be done, there are questions I believe should be answered. Until the results are certified, Trump has every right to make his legal moves and request answers.

As a software engineer who has spent much of his life working with data, statistics, financial statements and computer software, I can flat out tell you that I don't believe that obvious data anomalies or other significant data related irregularities are generally random or just happen. Certainly the people who I support would not accept the explanation that their financial statement coming back with hard to believe numbers should not be questioned or investigated. Certainly nobody is going to threaten them with punishment for questioning it or investigating it. If these numbers are truly wrong, people in their company could go to jail. We have to work with clients to investigate and double check anything and everything that doesn't look correct. There is no need to have prove of a problem before something is investigated and double checked.

While random can sometimes just happen, random anomalies that fit patterns pretty much never happens when it comes to statistical analysis, computer software, or any form of math or accounting. Patterns suggest issues, and issue always require investigation. But as stated previously, that is not the way it works with elections and it certainly is not the way it works with election lawsuits. Finding an anomaly or even a pattern of anomalies does not meet the legal burden of "proof" necessary.

That being said, there can never be any realistic calls for "unity" after this election when there are physical threats, doxing, and other issues associated with those making these challenges. Certainly there can be no call for "unity" if there are people who believe you can prosecute someone for challenging election results. We don't punish people for being curious, and when even 30% of Democrats believe some cheating went on to help Biden, it does not push any sort of "unity" to attack those who speak the unspeakable.

The people of the United States have no responsibility to submit to calls for "unity". That "unity" will need to be earned by those calling for it. You earn with transparency and respect for questions. You don't earn with threats and doxing. All that does it make it look like you have something "big" to hide.

Wouldn't it have been better for everyone if some of these same people were willing to question some of these anomalies with the same passion and interest that they took in promoting the idea back in 2016 that our President was working as a "Russian agent" and colluding to steal an election? Make no mistake, there is much greater reason to believe that there was ballot tampering and possible fraud in this election, then reason to believe that was that Donald Trump was ever working with Vladimir Putin.

Attempts to brush it under the rug will not bring anyone together. It will only pull us further apart.

unity?

never.

the left has intentionally and maliciously destroyed any chance for unity in this nation. they felt that the achievement of their political goals were worth it, they openly declared war on fully half of the country, and they "won." they won what can only be described as a Pyrrhic victory.

our goal needs to be making every single day of a biden administration a living fucking hell.

Christopher Cox Krebs (born 1977) is an American attorney who served as the Director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency in the United States Department of Homeland Security from November 2018 to November 2020. In November 2020, President Donald Trump fired Krebs for contradicting Trump on the prevalence of election fraud in the 2020 presidential elections.

Quick Facts: Director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, President ...

Early life and education

Krebs was born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1977. He earned a bachelor's degree in environmental sciences from the University of Virginia in 1999, and a Juris Doctor from the Antonin Scalia Law School (then the George Mason University School of Law) at George Mason University in 2007.

Career

Krebs's professional work has focused on cybersecurity and risk management issues. He served as Senior Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security for Infrastructure Protection, and later worked in the private sector as Director for Cybersecurity Policy for Microsoft.

In March 2017, he became Senior Counselor to the Secretary of Homeland Security. In August 2017, he was appointed Assistant Secretary for Infrastructure Protection, and performed the duties of the Under Secretary of Homeland Security for National Protection and Programs until he was confirmed to that position on a permanent basis on June 15, 2018. In November 2018, the National Protection and Programs Directorate was replaced by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), and Krebs remained as director of the agency.

It was reported that Krebs was being considered to serve as Acting Secretary of Homeland Security after the departure of Kevin McAleenan, although he was reported to be uninterested in the position.

Ch, I will soon answer your thread article in my own words.
Till then--

I will let Chris Christie answer you:

Christie Calls Trump Challenge a ‘National Embarrassment’
11:34 am EST
Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Sunday denounced a lack of evidence in President Trump’s legal challenges against election results as “a national embarrassment,” emphasizing that Trump has had his chance to prove allegations of widespread voter fraud in court, Axios reports.

Said Christie: “I have been a supporter of the president’s. I voted for him twice, but elections have consequences, and we cannot continue to act as if something happened here that didn’t happen. You have an obligation to present the evidence."

And let Politico and Newsweek answer:
Trump Threatens to Wreak Havoc on GOP
11:08 am
“President Trump has spent the three weeks since he lost the election savaging a pair of GOP governors for not backing his claims he was robbed,” Politico reports.

“Republicans are worried it’s just the start of what’s in store from the soon-to-be-ex-president.

“Trump’s attacks on Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp and Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine — both of whom are up for reelection in 2022 — has led to broader concerns within the party that he will use his post-presidency to exact revenge on perceived enemies and insert himself into races in ways that are not helpful.”

Newsweek:
GOP civil war, inspired by Trump, grips Georgia, threatens other states.

And let Sen. Cramer answer:
Cramer Says It’s ‘Past Time’ to Start Transition
10:55
Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-ND) told NBC News that the Trump administration should begin cooperating with President-elect Joe Biden’s transition team, even as he repeatedly defended President Trump’s attempts to challenge the results of the presidential election with unproven allegations of widespread fraud.

Said Cramer: “It’s past time to start a transition, or to at least cooperate with a transition.”

on the mythical, magical 'systemic racism:'

Shelby Steele, Glenn Lowry and John McWhorter discuss. A snippet:

LOURY: It started a movement, didn’t it? The events that happened in Ferguson, Missouri had deep political resonance for the country as a whole. If it wasn’t Selma, what was it then? What exactly is the difference in your minds between the classic—the iconic—narrative of African-American struggle against oppression on the one hand, and what unfolded in the wake of Ferguson on the other?

S. STEELE: It’s not like Selma. You and I grew up in segregation. I know about segregation. I lived the civil rights movement, saw those noble fights against an enemy that was everywhere in the world I grew up in. So no one had any doubt about the moral integrity of Selma’s protests. But in Ferguson, Missouri, what was the argument? That because one cop killed a black that somehow racism is systemic? It seems to me that the elephant in the room is that racism is so minimal now, that it couldn’t really, in and of itself, get any movement off the ground. There’s not enough of it around. There’s not enough injustice. And what we had instead was a generation looking for power and looking to see how guilty white America would respond. And, in that sense, the movement was cynical. It mimicked the real movement—Selma and the civil rights movement in the ’50s and the ’60s and so forth. It was mimicry. It was theater. It wasn’t real.

“We’ve talked a lot about transfer of power and the election. And it’s worth remembering that this president was never given an orderly transition of power,” McEnany said. “His presidency was never accepted. In fact, before the election his election we know Crossfire Hurricane was launched by [former FBI agent] Peter Strzok to pursue baseless allegations about the president’s ties with Russia.”

“And what happened after he was elected, you had 70 lawmakers say we’re not coming to his inauguration. Democratic lawmakers, you had [Massachusetts Sen.] Elizabeth Warren, saying, we’re going to attempt to obstruct the Trump transition by urging the Government Accountability Office to investigate the incoming Trump transition,” McEnany said.

“Many sought to undermine him, discredit him, delegitimize him and deny his victory. There were no calls for unity, there were no calls for healing. So while every legal vote is counted, let us not forget the inexcusable transition, or lack thereof, that President Trump had to endure in 2016, and for years into this presidency,” the press secretary said.

Michigan leader: Trump didn't ask for election interference

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — President Donald Trump did not ask Michigan Republican lawmakers to “break the law” or “interfere” with the election during a meeting at the White House, a legislative leader said Sunday, a day before canvassers plan to meet about whether to certify Joe Biden's 154,000-vote victory in the battleground state.

Michigan House Speaker Lee Chatfield was among seven Republican legislators who met with Trump for about an hour on Friday, amid his longshot efforts to block Biden's win.

“There was this outrage that the president was going to ask us to break the law, he was going to ask us to interfere, and that just simply didn't happen,” he told Fox News of the highly unusual meeting. He did not elaborate on what was discussed, except to say the delegation asked for additional federal aid to help Michigan's coronavirus response.

Michigan’s elections agency has recommended that the Nov. 3 results — including Biden's 2.8-percentage point victory — be certified by the Board of State Canvassers, which has two Democrats and two Republicans. The Republican National Committee and the state Republican Party want the board to adjourn for 14 days to investigate alleged irregularities in Wayne County, the state's largest and home to Detroit.

If the board does not confirm the results and the Michigan Supreme Court does not subsequently order it to do so, Chatfield said “now we have a constitutional crisis.” He and other Republicans, however, have indicated that they would not undermine the voters' will.

“Michigan election law clearly requires that the state’s electors must be those nominated by the party that received the most votes — not the Legislature,” says a stock email House Republicans are sending in response to people who contact their offices.

There is no evidence of widespread fraud in the 2020 election. In fact, election officials from both political parties have stated publicly that the election went well and international observers confirmed that there were no serious irregularities.

The issues Trump’s campaign and its allies have pointed to are typical in every election.

Republican U.S. Rep. Fred Upton, Michigan's current longest-serving member of Congress, told CNN on Sunday that “the voters spoke" and the state had no razor-thin presidential race.

“No one has come up with any evidence of fraud or abuse” he said. He called the request to delay the certification “out of bounds.”

Collective narcissism refers to the feelings of greatness or supremacy of a group of people organized by race, ethnicity, religion, or some other distinction. Collective narcissism leads to negative attitudes and retaliatory hostility against another group that is perceived as threatening. It also lends itself to conspiracy theories about the severe malevolence of the competing group.

Chris Wallace and Jonathan Swan Call Out Trump Team’s Evidence-Free Tale of an ‘International Criminal Communist Conspiracy’
1:58 pm
Fox News’ Chris Wallace and Axios’ Jonathan Swan tackled the BONKERS conspiracy theory being pushed by the Trump team during Fox News Sunday.

During the panel discussion, Wallace asked Swan about the delayed transition and whether there’s “any push inside the White House” to start it in any way.

Swan said there isn’t because “it’s still regarded as an act of disloyalty to President Trump.”

He went on to note the absurd conspiracy theory being thrown out by the legal team for the president of the United States:
“They are privately distancing themselves from the Rudy Giuliani–Sidney Powell–Jenna Ellis legal effort, which now assets that there’s an international criminal communist conspiracy stretching from Venezuela to Cuba involving hacking into voting machines and switching millions of votes. That’s not a widely-accepted theory inside Trump’s inner circle. Even some of his most hardcore loyalists are staying the heck away from that.”

Later on in the program, Wallace went back to this insanity and asked Swan about the Trump team’s efforts to challenge results in several states.

Swan noted the Trump campaign is still sending out fundraising emails insisting they have a path to victory, adding, “I can’t see it and frankly, when I talk to most of the president’s senior advisors whether it be the campaign or the West Wing, they can’t see it either. They are not saying that publicly, of course, but that’s what they do say privately almost universally.”

Swan noted they’re going beyond litigation to “coercion” of Republican state legislatures to, well… “I don’t even know what you would call it, but this is what I referred to earlier, this conspiracy theory that is very hard to follow, but is being pushed by President Trump and his legal team.”

Wallace then played the clip of Sidney Powell last week talking about this vast conspiracy involving “communist money” and Venezuela and Cuba and China and also maybe George Soros and the Clinton Foundation and now apparently Brian Kemp and Bernie Sanders.

Swan again highlighted on Twitter after the program how baffling this all is:
_______

Jonathan Swan
@jonathanvswan
The publicly-stated position of President Trump's legal team is that the reason Trump lost Georgia is because Georgia's Republican Gov. Brian Kemp has been bribed by a Venezuelan front company in cahoots with the CIA to throw elections to Communists.
______

Alex Salvi
@alexsalvinews
Trump campaign lawyer Sidney Powell:
“Georgia is probably going to be the first state I’m going to blow up ... [the filing in the state] will be Biblical”.
_________

Wallace asked Jason Chaffetz, “There is not, congressman, a shred of evidence that any of that is true. Do you have no concerns that this may be damaging the country?”

“I do have some concerns,” Chaffetz said. “They do need to produce evidence.”

Chaffetz did add that he thinks the Trump team does have some evidence on their side.

A baffled Wallace jumped in to ask, “You think there’s evidence of communist money pouring through Venezuela, Cuba, and China to overthrow this election?”

“No,” Chaffetz quickly said.
“You’re trying to lump it into just one group. I’m just saying there are lots of fronts on which there are some bits of evidence.”

On Saturday night a judge firmly rejected the Trump team’s legal challenge in Pennsylvania [and did so very, very harshly.]

Advisers to President-elect Joe Biden are planning for the increasing likelihood that the United States economy is headed for a “double-dip” recession early next year, the New York Times reports.

“They are pushing for Democratic leaders in Congress to reach a quick stimulus deal with Senate Republicans, even if it falls short of the larger package Democrats have been seeking.”

Trump Seeks to Invalidate Thousands of Wisconsin Votes
4:04 pm
“President Trump’s campaign is seeking to use a recount of the presidential election in Wisconsin to attempt to invalidate tens of thousands of votes in the state, making sweeping challenges to whole categories of ballots cast in the state’s two Democratic-leaning counties in his last-gasp effort to reverse President-elect Joe Biden’s win,” the Washington Post reports.

“As a recount began on Friday in Dane and Milwaukee counties — home to the cities of Madison and Milwaukee — Trump lawyers argued that officials should not merely retabulate all the votes cast in the Nov. 3 election to reconfirm they’d been counted properly.

“Instead, they argued that large batches of ballots had been improperly accepted and counted in the first place.”

Inside Republicans' troubled Election Day operations
Axios:
As President Trump unsuccessfully argues fraudulent voter claims, campaign operatives tell Axios the reality is the joint EDO (Election Day operations) by the Trump campaign and Republican National Committee left them feeling largely unprepared to challenge ballots in real time.

Why it matters: With several states moving toward certifying election results this week, the postmortems are beginning as political operatives try to understand what worked, what didn't and how to adjust going forward.

What we're hearing: Officials in different regions of the country describe a state-by-state patchwork — and a sense that the GOP's litigate-everything posture wasn't matched by operations robust or agile enough to mobilize properly.

"They claimed they had a great EDO on the ground, and that was the furthest thing from the truth," said one Trump election adviser who was in Pennsylvania the week of the election. "You have to stop fraud as it happens, not after the fact."

An official in the Gulf states said they repeatedly asked the campaign for more resources and were denied.

"The campaign fell apart after Election Day," another adviser said. "You can’t audit this in reverse. ... The infrastructure just failed."

In contrast, two officials in Florida told me their team had a good plan in place to combat concerns in real time and a strong EDO helped them win there.

The other side:
Trump deputy campaign manager and lawyer Justin Clark tells Axios this was "the largest, most organized Election Day operation ever mounted by any campaign in the history of the Republican Party" with more than 50,000 trained volunteers nationwide.

"We were prepared, and anyone who says otherwise either wasn't there or is trying to make themselves seem smart by anonymously running to the press."

Be smart:
Republican elections lawyer Ben Ginsberg tells Axios' Stef Kight even if the Trump campaign had better EDOs, there's no reason to assume that would have yielded any discoveries to invalidate Biden's margins.

Leaders of Michigan Legislature Reject Scheme to Overturn the ElectionBY JOHN MCCORMACK

Sidney Powell, one of President Trump’s election lawyers, has called on state legislatures to overturn the results of the election because of demonstrably false claims that voting machines changed votes to hand the election to Joe Biden. “The entire election, frankly, in all the swing states should be overturned, and the legislatures should make sure that the electors are selected for Trump,” Powell said on Thursday.

The Republican leaders of Michigan’s legislature met with President Trump at the White House on Friday, but in a statement following the meeting the two Michigan Republicans threw cold water on any scheme to overturn the election results in their state:

“We have not yet been made aware of any information that would change the outcome of the election in Michigan and as legislative leaders, we will follow the law and follow the normal process regarding Michigan’s electors, Michigan’s certification process should be a deliberate process free from threats and intimidation. Allegations of fraudulent behavior should be taken seriously, thoroughly investigated, and if proven, prosecuted to the full extent of the law. And the candidates who win the most votes win elections and Michigan’s electoral votes. These are simple truths that should provide confidence in our elections.”

As Andy McCarthy writes on the homepage today, state legislatures can’t ignore the results of the election because states have “enacted laws that empower the public to vote in an election which, once certified in the manner also prescribed by law, dictates that the state’s electoral votes are cast for the winner of the state’s popular vote.”

In Michigan, Joe Biden defeated Donald Trump 50.6 percent to 47.8 percent—a margin of about 154,000 votes. According to Michigan law, state officials will certify the election results

Trump Lawyers Put Out Statement Throwing Sidney Powell Under The Bus After She Pushes Insane Voter Fraud Conspiracy

President Donald Trump’s lawyers put out a statement on Sunday evening distancing themselves from fellow attorney Sidney Powell after she pushed absurd conspiracy theories claiming widespread voter fraud. For a legal team who has called themselves an “elite strike force” but whose results are most charitably described as blundering, Powell’s recent commentary apparently went a step too far, sparking a very public split.

On Saturday night, Powell went after Trump ally Governor Brian Kemp (R-GA) in an appearance on Newsmax TV, claiming she has evidence of voting machine fraud in the state while arguing Kemp is complicit.

Then on Sunday evening, the campaign released a statement to distance themselves and the Trump campaign from Powell, and for the first time declaring that she was not actually part of the campaign’s official legal team.

“Sidney Powell is practicing law on her own. She is not a member of the Trump Legal Team. She is also not a lawyer for the President in a personal capacity,” Jenna Ellis, Senior Legal Adviser to the Trump campaign, and Rudy Giuliani, President Trump’s lawyer, stated in the press release.

Last Thursday, Powell appeared at a press conference alongside Ellis and Giuliani were she floated numerous unsubstantiated allegations of a far-ranging plot to steal the election between conspirators like George Soros, the Clinton Foundation, the Venezuelan government (including former President Hugo Chavez, who died in 2013), and antifa.

At this time — less then a week ago! — Trump, Ellis, and Giuliani were still touting Powell as apart of their legal team.

Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. graduated from the University of Delaware with a C average: the 506th student in a class of 688. When his grades weren’t C’s, they were usually D’s.

He then struggled through a JD from Syracuse University where he was nearly expelled after being caught plagiarizing a paper, and finally graduated 76th out of a class of 85 students. His academic performance was so miserable that an insecure Biden would spend much of his political career lying about academic successes that were humiliatingly exposed as frauds.

Biden falsely claimed that he had "graduated with three degrees from college", was "the outstanding student in the political science department", that he "went to law school on a full academic scholarship", that he was "in the top half" of his class. None of that ever happened.

Robinette was a bad law student and he did not make a good lawyer, bouncing from one firm to another, working briefly as a public defender without leaving any impression, and managing a pool. Successful young attorneys on their way up do not take jobs managing swimming pools.

Instead Biden went into politics and continued failing his way upward by crawling through the corrupt underbelly of Delaware politics. His first bid for the White House failed miserably, so did his second bid, and it seemed like he would become just another aging senator looking for an exit strategy to a lobbying firm or an industry trade group that would pay him a lot of money.

And then Obama decided to make Biden his number two, not because he liked him, but because he held the old white male politician in contempt. The final insult came when Obama picked Hillary to succeed him while offering Biden a Rose Garden press conference for his ego.

“And you know who really doesn’t have it? Joe Biden,” Obama sneered this time around.

During the primaries, Biden was forced to pretend he had asked Obama not to endorse him.

Joe Biden is a failer and he’s always been one. His career comes down to political grease and dumb luck. There has never been anyone at this position who has not accomplished a single thing except being in the right place at the right time, before invariably screwing it up.

Biden, as a young man, got into the Senate, and it didn’t take him long to become a national laughingstock, confining his career prospects to Delaware for a generation. Obama plucked him from obscurity, and Biden messed that up, getting dumped for Hillary. Now that he’s calling himself president-elect, the one thing to remember is that Biden always messes it up in the end.

Biden is a failer. He’s a C student who gets by on luck and then it all comes apart until someone takes pity on him, and he hangs on long enough to try for something bigger and messes that up.

Michigan Board May Deadlock on Vote Certification
6:34 am
Detroit Free Press: “For what is believed would be the first time in history, Michigan’s elections board could deadlock Monday on certifying the state’s presidential election results.”

“By law and by practice, certification by the Board of State Canvassers — comprised of two Democratic appointees and two Republican ones — is supposed to be a routine sign-off. Certification acknowledges that Michigan’s unofficial results match the tabulated vote counts. It follows a two-week period of double-checking in Michigan’s 83 counties, where some inaccuracies in the unofficial numbers, as is normal, were found and corrected.

“But these are not normal times. The climate is hyper-partisan, disinformation is rampant, and Republican President Donald Trump and his team of lawyers are spreading false claims, working to somehow overturn election results in Michigan and other key states, and upend President-elect Joe Biden’s victory in the Electoral College, where Biden rung up 306 electoral votes to Trump’s 232.”

The legal insanity: For more than 24 hours — until it became too much even for Rudy Giuliani to tolerate — the publicly-stated position of President Trump's legal team was that the reason Trump lost Georgia is because Gov. Brian Kemp (R) has been bribed by a Venezuelan front company in cahoots with the CIA to throw elections to Communists.

More than that, in the telling by now-former Trump legal adviser Sidney Powell (ditched in a statement by the campaign last night), these dastardly Communists have manipulated American voting machines to switch millions of votes from Trump to Joe Biden.

Yes, that's correct. You didn't read that wrong. We are not pranking you.

This is literally what the Trump legal team is arguing. Watch this Newsmax clip and this press conference appearance from Powell. The dangerous reality is that there is a large audience for this conspiracy theory. Far-right commentators attacked Fox' News' Tucker Carlson for daring to suggest that Powell should provide evidence to support her allegation of what would be the biggest crime in American history.

Longtime Trump ally Chris Christie said on ABC's "This Week": "[T]he conduct of the president's legal team has been a national embarrassment."

Senior people in Trumpworld agree. A source familiar with the situation said the Trump legal team had been arguing vociferously with each other on phone calls with the president. And Powell hadn’t shown anybody senior in Trumpworld the evidence to support her grand claims of an international communist conspiracy.

Notice that few key campaign and White House officials have been publicly endorsing this legal strategy.

Ask yourself: When is the last time you heard from Jared? Or Ivanka? In private, they have long known it was over.

“Biden is obsessed with bringing stability and conventional sanity back to governance.”

Said one source familiar with his thinking: “He is approaching this — in part — like an experienced mechanic intent on repairing something that’s been badly broken.”

The Election Really Wasn’t That Close
9:09 am
First Read: “What’s gotten lost in all of the focus on President Trump’s lawsuits, his baseless accusations of voter fraud and his administration’s unwillingness so far to begin the transition is a simple fact. The 2020 presidential election wasn’t really that close.”

“Right now, Joe Biden’s popular-vote lead over Trump stands at 4 percentage points, 51 percent to 47 percent – and it’s only going to grow once more of New York’s votes (finally) get counted. That would give Biden the second-largest popular vote margin out of the 21st century’s six presidential elections, with only Barack Obama’s 7-point win in 2008 being greater.

“When it comes to the Electoral College, the tally stands at Biden 306, Trump 232 – which happens to be the exact same split as Trump’s 2016 win versus Hillary Clinton (but in reverse). And Trump referred to that as a ‘massive landslide victory.'”

Blinken, who served as deputy secretary of state and deputy national security advisor under President Barack Obama, has also been a New York Times opinion writer and a “global affairs analyst” for CNN. In that capacity, he supported the “Russia collusion” hoax.

As Breitbart News reported in 2017, Blinken told CNN: “The president’s ongoing collusion with Russia’s plans is really striking, intentional or not.” He said that Russia had sown doubt about American elections and institutions.

(Subsequently, an investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller found no evidence of any collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign.)

Blinken also apologized earlier this year to left-wing anti-Israel radical Linda Sarsour, regarded by many critics (even on the left) as an antisemite, after the Biden campaign tried to distance itself from her views.

He is also married to Evan Ryan, a former aide to then-First Lady Hillary Clinton. Ryan worked for Clinton at a time when Clinton’s chief of staff, Margaret Williams, acknowledged accepting a campaign donation from entrepreneur Johnny Chien Chuen Chung.

Chung said that the donation was meant to help Clinton pay for Christmas receptions for the Democratic National Committee at the White House, in exchange for “VIP treatment for a delegation of visiting Chinese businessmen,” according to the Los Angeles Times.

Trump’s Legal Farce Is Having Tragic Results
9:45 am
Rick Hasen: “The good news is that there is no real prospect that Mr. Trump can avoid a reluctant handover of power on Jan. 20. The bad news is that Mr. Trump’s wildly unsubstantiated claims of a vast voter fraud conspiracy and the litigation he has brought against voting rights have done — and will increasingly do — serious damage to our democracy.

“Our problems will deepen, in particular, because Mr. Trump’s litigation strategy has led to the emergence of a voter-hostile jurisprudence in the federal courts. New judicial doctrines will put more power in the hands of Republican legislatures to suppress the vote and take voters, state courts and federal courts out of key backstop roles.”

We must not let that happen!

STOCKHOLM, Sweden — Once Sweden found cheerleaders among conservative commentators and activists in the United States for its light-touch approach to the coronavirus pandemic.

But as the numbers of deaths and infections surge, Sweden's government has been forced to introduce much tougher regulations to prevent the virus from spreading.

Beginning Tuesday, the number of people who can gather in public will be reduced from 50 to eight. Only eight diners per table will be allowed in restaurants.

Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven issued a stern warning on Sunday night as he explained the new rules.

"Tonight, in late November 2020, it is clear that it will be some time before we can return to normal," he told the nation in a televised address. "Many have neglected the advice during the autumn."

"All the things you would like to do, but that are not necessary: Cancel, postpone," he added.

He will have about 15 days after inauguration to extend for five years the last major arms control agreement with Russia, a step Mr. Trump initially refused to take because he insisted China be brought into the treaty as well. “Certainly we will want to engage China on arms control issues,” Mr. Blinken said recently, “but we can pursue strategic stability by extending the New START arms limitation agreement and seek to build on it” later.

Mr. Blinken has turned more hawkish on Russia as the extent of its interference in the 2016 election and throughout Europe has become clearer. In a recent interview, he suggested using Russia’s discomfort with its reliance on China, especially in technology, for leverage.

“There’s a flip side” to dealing with Moscow, Mr. Blinken said. President Vladimir V. Putin, he noted, is “looking to relieve Russia’s growing dependence on China,” which has left him in “not a very comfortable position.”

In taking the White House’s top national security job, Mr. Sullivan will be the youngest person to hold that position since the Eisenhower administration. Mr. Sullivan made his name in the Obama administration, finding admirers even among conservative Republicans in Congress while playing a key role in the negotiations leading to the Iran nuclear deal in 2015.

A Minnesota native and Yale Law School graduate, Mr. Sullivan in recent months has helped spearhead a project at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace re-conceiving U.S. foreign policy around the needs of the American middle class.

In recent years, Mr. Sullivan has taught at Yale Law School and Dartmouth, and moved to New Hampshire with his wife, Margaret Goodlander. Ms. Goodlander was an aide to Senator John McCain, and then a law clerk to Judge Merrick B. Garland and Justice Stephen G. Breyer.

Mr. Blinken, described by some as a centrist with a streak of interventionism, has also sought to lessen refugee crises and migration. On the last day of the Obama administration, the State Department set a cap of 110,000 refugees who would be allowed to resettle in the United States in the 2017 fiscal year. That number has since dwindled to 15,000 in the 2021 fiscal year.

He has said he will look to further assist Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador — the Northern Triangle countries of Central America — to persuade migrants that they will be safer and better off remaining home.
