Case in point...

Last night I suggested that we should never just accept either an allegation or an explanation at face value. I am sure some people will argue with this, just because they like to argue. But the reality is that sometimes an explanation is just a manner to create a plausible legitimate scenario that explains away behavior that isn't quite so legitimate.

The reality is that the the official explanation provided shows more than a little revisionist history. Even on election night, the media was reporting that State Farm Arena counters were all sent home at 10:30. Not just the ballot cutters (as is being argued now). This was information provided by the Fulton County election department manager for elections. This is also consistent with what the Secretary of State was offering publicly that night in Georgia.

There would be no reason at this point not to believe the poll watchers who claimed that the counters were following orders and sending everyone home. These watchers likely heard the same reports from the Election Department that backed up what they say they heard.  To believe the ballot counters at this time requires not only the difficult to swallow scenario that everyone but them were just "confused" by their instructions, but also requires you to accept the story from ballot counters who were openly disobeying instructions from the SOS office by continuing to count.

The fact is that the allegations based on what we saw on the video (that the counters sent everyone home and then came back on their own later) was more credible than the explanation from the counters on what they claimed happened (that it was a semantic misinterpretation of what they stated and that watchers went home on their own). Now it appears that there official reports that back up the idea that "everyone" was supposed to be sent home at 10:30 and that when the counters came back, that they were disobeying instructions.

We also now know that the same people who basically misrepresented (or lied) about why these four counters were in the room by themselves, are the ones wanting us to believe the rest of the explanation. We are supposed to believe that they reviewed all the security footage, interviewed people, and double checked the process and are "certain" that these ballot boxes in question were never outside of the normal chain of ownership and that nothing unusual happened. You know, just take them at their word.

Not sure that the credibility factor here is at it's highest level. At best we are supposed to trust poll workers who were obviously not following the directive from above along with people who appear to be covering for them.

Another oddity that seemed to go woefully unnoticed was when those defending the action attempted to claim that there was nothing unusual with the vote count that night, they literally only provided count numbers that would represent a fraction of the ballots that were probably put through the machines (as estimated by people who watched the whole tape). The counters put ballots through the scanners for two and a half hours, on multiple machines that can count 3000 ballots an hour, and the number of votes they claim were recorded during this after hours session was under 5000. Or at least that is the "drop" that they claim corresponded to what the counters were doing. Another claim that seems dubious at best.

Does any of this "prove" fraud?

Who knows. But what it does prove is that those who were responsible were not only bending the rules, bending the law, but that the powers to be were willing to cover things up by providing a story that doesn't quite seem like it cuts the mustard. This requires quite a bit of cognitive dissonance, blinding trust, and a vivid imagination at this point to accept their explanation at face value.

Judges Turn Back Claims by Trump In Six States
8:41 am
“President Trump and his allies faced a crush of defeats in post-election litigation Friday, a further sign of their ongoing failure to overturn President-elect Joe Biden’s victory through the courts and to gain traction through baseless claims of widespread fraud,” the Washington Post reports.

“Judges ruled decisively that Trump’s side has not proved the election was fraudulent, with some offering painstaking analyses of why such claims lack merit and pointed opinions about the risks the legal claims pose to American democracy.”

Wrote Justice Brian Hagedorn of the Wisconsin Supreme Court: “The relief being sought by the petitioners is the most dramatic invocation of judicial power I have ever seen.”

Biden Clinches Electoral Win as California Certifies

Joe Biden now officially has more than the 270 Electoral College votes he needs to claim the presidency after California certified its election results on Friday evening, Bloomberg reports.

The final 2020 electoral map has Biden beating Donald Trump 306 to 232.

The Electoral College meets on December 14.

Just 25 GOP Lawmakers Acknowledge Biden’s Win
8:31 am
The Washington Post surveyed all 249 Republicans in the House and Senate beginning the morning after Trump posted a 46-minute video in which he wrongly claimed he had defeated Joe Biden and leveled wild and unsubstantiated allegations of ‘corrupt forces’ who stole the outcome from the sitting president.

Just 25 Republican lawmakers said Biden was the winner, while two said Trump won. Another 222 were either unclear or would not answer.

Trump Called Kemp a ‘Moron’ And a ‘Nut Job’

Pentagon Blocks Biden Transition from Spy Agencies
9:42 am
“The Trump administration has refused to allow members of President-elect Joe Biden’s transition team to meet with officials at U.S. intelligence agencies that are controlled by the Pentagon, undermining prospects for a smooth transfer of power,” the Washington Post reports.

“The officials said the Biden team has not been able to engage with leaders at the National Security Agency, the Defense Intelligence Agency and other military-run spy services with classified budgets and global espionage platforms.”

The U.S. Has Passed the Hospital Breaking Point
9:37 am
The Atlantic: “The pandemic nightmare scenario—the buckling of hospital and health-care systems nationwide—has arrived. Several lines of evidence are now sending us the same message: Hospitals are becoming overwhelmed, causing them to restrict whom they admit and leading more Americans to needlessly die.

“The current rise in hospitalizations began in late September, and for weeks now hospitals have faced unprecedented demand for medical care. The number of hospitalized patients has increased nearly every day: Since November 1, the number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 has doubled; since October 1, it has tripled.”

New Mexico Hospitals Nearly Overwhelmed
9:02 am
New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) is on the verge of acknowledging just how grim the pandemic has become, telling the Washington Post she will soon allow hospitals to move to “crisis standards,” a move that frees them to ration care depending on a patient’s likelihood of surviving.

Obama rallies for Ga. Democratic Senate candidates, says January election will 'determine ... the course of the Biden presidency'

Just one day before President Trump is set to travel to Georgia to campaign for the two Republican U.S. senators running to retain their seats, former President Barack Obama headlined a “Get Out the Vote” virtual rally Friday afternoon put on by Georgia Democrats to support the two Democratic candidates in the January runoffs.

“The special election in Georgia is going to determine, ultimately, the course of the Biden presidency and whether Joe Biden and Kamala Harris can deliver legislatively all the commitments they made,” Obama said during the event.

Former Georgia state House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams moderated the virtual rally, which included appearances by Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, Georgia Rep.-elect Nikema Williams, and both Democrats on the ticket in the runoffs: the Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff.

The two runoff races in Georgia will determine which party takes control of the Senate next month. Republicans currently control 50 seats in the chamber, while Democrats hold 48. If both Warnock and Ossoff win, Democrats will have the edge in the Senate thanks to Vice President-elect Kamala Harris’s tie-breaking vote.

“If the Senate is controlled by Republicans who are interested in obstruction and gridlock, rather than progress and helping people, they can block just about anything,” Obama said. “We need a politics that works for ordinary people, not for insiders or the high and mighty.”

In an impassioned speech that lasted about 20 minutes, Obama praised the efforts of Georgia Democrats in flipping the state blue, for the first time since 1992, in favor of President-elect Joe Biden.

“My first message is thank you, Georgia,” Obama said. “The problem with doing a good job is people ask for you to do it again. This will decide what President-elect Biden can do during his presidency.”

Obama expressed confidence in Warnock and Ossoff’s ability to bring Georgians together following Trump’s presidency, which he said was marked by “division.” He said Warnock and Ossoff were building a coalition that includes every race, ethnicity and income bracket, which Obama called “a vision of what not just Georgia, but America, could be.”

The former president also tore into the records of the pair of Republicans on the ticket: Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, who have both faced criticism for their stock trades.

“You’ve got two incumbent senators, who, in the midst of the worst public health crisis of our lifetimes, were worried about their stock portfolio,” Obama said. “Goodness gracious! That alone should tell you something. Somehow we’ve become inured to this kind of stuff.”

Abrams also expressed her gratitude to Georgians statewide for the work they’ve already done, including the many who voted by mail in the presidential election in record numbers. On Thursday she tweeted that more than 1 million Georgians had requested absentee ballots for the Senate runoff race on Jan. 5. But she also reminded viewers that the work was not done.

“This election matters, but more importantly you matter,” Abrams said. “It’s incredibly important that we get to work now. We have the power to change things and ... have access to the things we deserve. Let’s get it done.”

Warnock, the senior pastor at Atlanta’s historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, added that the nation does not suffer from a lack of resources, but rather “from a lack of moral imagination.”

At one point during his speech, Obama joked, “Since I have a reverend here, let me give a testimony.

“The Senate really matters,” he added. “This is about America and this is about the world.”

Like many other Americans who had the misfortune to live under socialism, I’ve been having lots of flashbacks lately. In particular, I find that the presumptive President-elect Joe Biden gives out serious Brezhnev vibes.

[...]

It shouldn’t be surprising that according to a Zogby poll, 55 percent of likely voters believed Biden is in the early stages of dementia. What’s surprising is that the November 3 election revealed how 80 million Americans apparently hate Trump so much that they think Biden’s anonymous handlers will do a better job of running the country — and so they voted for the Democratic nominee.

At least nobody in the Soviet Union voted for Brezhnev — the elections were a sham with Communist party candidates running unopposed. Everything was a sham, actually. In his mumbling, robotic tones, the general secretary delivered long-winded, heavy on Marxist cliches and utterly incomprehensible televised speeches. The economy flattered, dissidents were subjected to psychiatric torture, corruption proliferated, and the rate of substance abuse skyrocketed. That period of Soviet history is known as zastoi, or stagnation. It only made sense that the man on top was some sort of sclerotic.

Like Brezhnev, Biden’s rhetoric is ridden with clichés, but of a different, folksy kind. At the time when political slogans are catchy and provocative — Make America Great Again, Black Lives Matter — Biden’s yard signs read ‘Our best days are still ahead’, and ‘Build back better’. His Twitter account is full of platitudes like ‘This is our moment — ours together — to write a newer, bolder, more compassionate chapter in the life of our nation.’ He’s just a boring ordinary guy — until he lashes out at a voter, or bites on his wife’s finger.

Is Biden the candidate of American stagnation? His cognitive and physical decline is increasingly difficult to hide and it’s highly disturbing to witness it become a subject of speculation. I’ve lived through it before and it gives me the creeps. Free citizens of a free republic shouldn’t need a Kremlinologist to decipher what’s wrong with their president.

Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, a Republican, told reporters at a press briefing that officials have received 993,735 requests for mail-in ballots. Counties have already received back 11,474.

The number of requests increased by tens of thousands in just a few days.

What has become almost outrageous at this point is that these "explanations" are being called "fact checking" by media members on the left. As if there is something "inherently" true about any and all explanations for abnormal behavior.

I wonder out loud, where the ability of most Americans to "critically" think has gone. Actually that is more rhetorical that literal. I think we know.

When we went to school, we were held accountable to learn the curriculum (mainly the three Rs). This "required" us to think beyond simple memorization and to understand inherently that whatever we wrote on a paper was going to be graded and critiqued. We learned critical thinking because we had to, to be successful.

Meanwhile, later generations have turned their backs on the three R's and focused on more generic teachings (including in some cases classes like critical thinking). But in spite of supposedly being taught how to learn and think, the people graduating are not very good at either. Mainly, because unlike our generation, there is very little critique and teachers are there to just encourage and tell everyone how special they are.

This makes it almost impossible for them to either question their own initial thoughts or to question those whom they trust (because it reinforces their own beliefs). They are taught that this is okay, acceptable, if not good and necessary. Better to be wrong and have strong self-esteem than to understand that sometimes you are wrong and have to take a step back and admit it.

This is truly one of the most disgusting political maneuvers in American history. She made a calculation that letting businesses close for good, disproportionately minority-owned businesses by the way, so that her party could win the White House was worth it. She allowed children to go hungry to get votes. She should resign in shame.

If there is any silver lining to this utterly ruthless barbarism on Pelosi’s part, it is that in her sordid scheming she shot her own self in the foot. Centrist Democrats in the House this fall being slammed with progressive calls to defund the police were absolutely desperate to bring home a compromise package to their districts. The entire point of electing a moderate Democrat is that you are willing to compromise with Republicans.

But Pelosi sold out her own House members too. And in nearly every toss-up race, the GOP prevailed slashing her House majority. That schadenfreude, however, is of little compensation to Americans who were desperate for her help, who she told to pound sand. I don’t throw this word around much, but if what Nancy Pelosi has done playing politics with the well being of American families isn’t evil, I don’t know what is.

Runoff Pits Old South Against New South
11:46 am
Politico: “Georgia’s campaign ads tell a tale of two states: Raphael Warnock’s ads are bright and sunny, featuring the pastor expounding on health care policy, telling his family story and walking a puppy. But the majority of Kelly Loeffler’s spots take a grimmer tone, attacking Warnock as ‘the most dangerous, radical candidate in America.’ In one ad, the camera pans across a photo of Warnock, who is Black, darkened and superimposed over footage of riots. ‘Saving the Senate,’ the narrator intones, ‘is about saving America … from that.’

“It could work. But with Georgia’s demographics shifting, Loeffler’s approach — a familiar playbook tailored to older, whiter voters who skew Republican — is just as likely to prove out of step with a changing electorate. It’s pitting the politics of the Old South, often characterized by thinly-veiled racist rhetoric and maintenance of the predominantly white status quo, against the New South’s increasingly young and racially diverse constituency.”

HOORAY FOR THE NEW SOUTH!

In their current guise, Democrats today can only offer redistribution of wealth, which itself can come in two forms, each with inherent problems. A traditional socialist approach would hardly be in the interest of the Democratic funders or the non-profit establishment, given it would involve siphoning off the wealth of people like Jeff Bezos, who expended much of his media power, through the Washington Post, opposing Bernie Sanders’ presidential bid. Yet the progressive left continues to push this agenda, notably in big urban centres, a continuing challenge to more oligarch-friendly liberals.

The other alternative would be to turn the middle and working class into future serfs – that is, people increasingly dependent on what Marx called ‘the proletarian alms bag’ (1). This ‘oligarchal socialism’ – backed by many tech oligarchs – would transfer funds, likely from the remaining middle class, to fund a ‘guaranteed annual income’ to keep hoi polloi in subsidised apartments, spending their time in low-wage gig jobs, while they play video games, smoke pot, drink and water their houseplants. It is an approach that allows the oligarchs to continue accumulating the wealth and power they see as their due, while keeping the peasants separate from their pitchforks.

These unattractive alternatives could provide enormous opportunities for Republicans, or more traditional Democrats, if they could overcome the opposition of ‘market fundamentalists’. On the right, as the American Prospect has demonstrated, many conservative think-tanks are financed by Google and other oligopolists. The future could belong not to Trump but to more coherent Republicans like Oren Cass and his American Compass group, who reject ‘let the market rip’ fundamentalism and openly favour working-class interests in terms of healthcare, education, housing, anti-trust policy and energy.

Americans do not want to be either Marxist or oligarchic wards. They generally desire to become more self-sufficient and successful. The attempt to implement a pilot guaranteed-incomes programme in Modesto, California, a hardscrabble Valley town of 300,000, was recently rescinded by a primarily minority electorate, who replaced a progressive Democratic with a black Republican preacher. Like most Americans, most minorities and working-class people still believe in the ‘dream’ even if they believe that it is more difficult to achieve.

Until that quintessentially American spark is squelched entirely, the disruptive process brought on by Trump will not go away, but simply evolve and even expand. The question will be whether a more sober, less nativist, and focused populism will emerge from the wreckage or be replaced by something more troubling.

No, there were no 'suitcases of ballots' counted in secret.

The most viral claim from the hearing is a 90-second clip of surveillance footage from Fulton County's tabulation center set up at State Farm Arena. Culled from hours of vote counting, the short clip allegedly shows election workers bringing suitcases of ballots out from underneath a table to be counted in secret after Republican monitors were told to go home.

But that's not what was shown and the claims misunderstand the laws and rules around counting.

State and county officials, including investigators for the secretary of state's office, said that the video clip making the rounds show the normal tabulation process. No monitors were told to leave, but Republican monitors and members of the media left when some election employees called "cutters" wrapped up for the night.

Georgia law § 21-2-408 spells out the rules for partisan poll watchers, allowing them to be present and monitor aspects of the elections process. But having monitors there is not required — and in fact, Democrats did not have monitors present at that time.

As for the so-called suitcase full of ballots allegedly removed from under the table? It was empty, the state's investigator said.

"There wasn't a bin that had ballots in it under the table," Frances Watson told Lead Stories. "It was an empty bin and the ballots from it were actually out on the table when the media were still there, and then it was placed back into the box when the media were still there and placed next to the table."

Furthermore, elections officials say there was nothing abnormal about the tabulation of ballots shown on the video.

"What the video shows is that they have pulled out plastic bins from underneath the desks," Fulton elections director Rick Barron said Friday morning. "It was normal processing that occurred there, as Gabe Sterling from the state explained this morning."

Sterling, the state's voting system implementation manager, said that investigators for the state watched the full surveillance video from Election Day and said those bins of ballots were already there and accounted for earlier in the day, while both monitors and the media were there.

A monitor appointed by the state election board had also briefly left and returned at 11:52 p.m. and another state investigator was there starting at 12:15 a.m. The final ballots were scanned around 12:43 a.m.

So no ballots were illegally counted in secret, there was no "suitcase" of ballots being added into the totals. The clip is misleading and the claims untrue.

The claim: Biden only won because of big-city fraud

On several occasions, Trump and Thecoldheartedtruth
has claimed Biden only won because of high turnout in “politically corrupt” large cities in battleground states.
Trump has also pointed to debunked statistical analysis claiming a Biden victory is impossible because Republicans won down-ballot races nationwide, and the president received more votes for a sitting president in U.S. history.

“Biden can only enter the White House as President if he can prove that his ridiculous ‘80,000,000 votes”’ were not fraudulently or illegally obtained,” Trump wrote in a tweet on Nov. 27.  “When you see what happened in Detroit, Atlanta, Philadelphia & Milwaukee, massive voter fraud, he’s got a big unsolvable problem!”

In fact, Trump didn’t lose because of those cities.

In Detroit, turnout was 49 percent compared to 65 percent overall in Michigan, and Trump did better in Detroit than any Republican presidential candidate in decades, while Biden only did marginally better there than Democrat Hillary Clinton when she ran in 2016.

Biden won Michigan by increasing turnout and winning big in the suburbs: Oakland County and Kent County, which Trump won by 9,500 votes in 2016.

In Philadelphia and Milwaukee, voter turnout and support for the Democratic presidential candidate also didn’t change much from 2016.

Trump also alleged that spikes in votes “found” early in the night in these cities were an indication of fraud. In fact, those were absentee ballots that took longer to count. Those mail-in ballots also may have favored Biden, experts said, because Trump spent months encouraging his supporters to vote in-person and  questioning the integrity of the mail-in voting system.

Public health experts face disillusionment as pandemic drags on:

Nine months into a pandemic that has taken the lives of more than 277,000 people in the United States, some epidemiologists are starting to wonder:
Are people even listening to us? "I’m just astounded by the dysfunction, the willingness to just stay the course as hundreds of thousands of people die, and the unwillingness to innovate in literally any way," said Michael Mina, an assistant professor of epidemiology at Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health. "I’ve realized that when we need to rise up as a country, we have truly no moral capacity to do it. It’s just the most mind-bending, complete Twilight Zone experience that makes you ask why the hell we even bother."

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

In a conspiracy-laden seven-hour hearing, Republican poll challengers and watchers testified in front of the Michigan Senate Oversight Committee. Despite accusations, they did not provide evidence of widespread voter fraud.

Dozens of mostly aggrieved Republicans testified Tuesday. Many raised concerns with the ballot counting process at the TCF Center in Detroit and said they were harassed by election workers.

Others repeated debunked conspiracy theories about Dominion Voting Systems, errors in Antrim County, birthdates from the year 1900 on ballots, and a batch of ballots that arrived in the middle of the night—all of which have been explained by state and local election officials or debunked by reporting.

Democratic state Senator Jeff Irwin (D-Ann Arbor) said some Republican officials are playing into the Trump campaign’s strategy of smoke and mirrors, simply to obfuscate and undermine the results—which show President-elect Joe Biden won the state by 154,188 votes.

Speaking to former Republican state Senator Patrick Colbeck, who cited Sidney Powell lawsuits in his testimony and encouraged the legislature to appoint electors, Irwin said: “You just go back and repeat the same old misconstrued statements about what happened in Antrim County. So, forgive me if it’s difficult after reading these lawsuits and listening to your testimony to understand even what you’re talking about.”

Many Affidavits, Little Evidence

Most Republicans who testified said they’d be submitting written testimony or affidavits to the state Senate Oversight Committee, but most affidavits that were part of lawsuits have already been tossed out of Michigan courts.

Phillip O’Halloran, who testified early in the day, filed an affidavit and was a plaintiffin one of the Trump campaign’s failed lawsuits in the state. O’Halloran’s affidavit, along with the lawsuit, was voluntarily dismissed by the Trump campaign in late November.

Yet, O’Halloran and others like him had a renewed platform for their grievances Tuesday. Republican lawmakers offered little pushback at times calling the testimony “insightful” and “compelling.”

President Donald Trump tweeted several videos from the hearing, at one-point tweeting “Michigan voter fraud hearing going on now!”

personally, i'm a huge fan of the signatories to the Great Barrington Declaration. not just because i grew up so close to there, but because of the intellect, training, common sense and dedication to seeking a balance between our freedoms and your tyranny in the name of "saving us."

at this point i would cordially invite you to go fuck yourself on behalf of the tens of millions of American's who do not happen to be ensconced in the wealth and privilege of Harvard, that so comfortably swaddles you in a luxurious isolation out of reach to those you seek to destroy. from that perch it is easy to stay out of harms way, easy to remain distanced from us dirty commoners, and easy to judge those who are doing the very best they can to simply survive the madness your ilk has visited upon us.

so don't worry about us, mikey. we always manage to survive not BECAUSE of asshats like you, but IN SPITE OF asshats like you.

Will this be the foundation for Brown Shirt Biden leaving office?

"
It shouldn’t be surprising that according to a Zigby poll, 55 percent of likely voters believed Biden is in the early stages of dementia."
