Winners of 2020

Well it's the end of the year, and that means it's time for our 2020 Winners and Losers of the year. Now given that 2020 was pretty much a lost year in general, and we all got to deal with destruction, sickness, and death, I find it hard to make a real solid list of winners. But I figure it's worth a shot, at least in an unconventional somewhat tongue in cheek manner! So heeeeeeeerrrrrreeeee we go!

Third Runner Up: Killer Hornets - They were actually as much rumor as they were real. Yeah, they existed, but they way more attention than they deserved. But hey, what creature ever got such status by doing so little? Which is why in the year 2020, Killer Hornets are our third runner up!

Second Runner Up: Chaos and anarchy -  What a year, Chaos and anarchy had? Chaos was not only able to thrive in 2020, but Chaos got a much needed lift from our media and elected officials. We had riots, looting, destruction of property, and attacks on the police! All the while your Democrats at all levels of government, CNN, MSNBC, NYT, WaPo and gang cheered them on!

Anarchy also made a huge comeback with Chop/Chaz in Seattle, which morphed into smaller "autonomous zones" across the country. If you live to destroy something for the pure sake of destroying something, then 2020 was your year! Congrats!

First Runner Up: Mask Manufacturers - Boy, if one could go back in time just a year or so ago with some money to invest. The manufacturers of paper and cloth masks would have been the way to go! Probably could have retired to a beach house, bought the car of my dreams, and lived happily ever after!

Honorable mention:
  • Hypocrisy was sooo close to making to a runner up status after really, really expanding it's overall influence in 2020.
  • Election fraud had a big year.
  • Media bias was at the top of it's game in 2020.
  • Kamala Harris quite possibly found a loophole to become President without winning anything or having to drop to her knees.
  • Manufacturers of cardboard cutouts had a big year filling football and baseball stadiums.
  • Manufacturers of mail in ballots made buck.
  • Doordash, Amazon, and other delivery services took home the bacon.
  • Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Skype, Facetime are here to stay.

2020 Winner of the year! Kicking everyone's ass and forever changing the world in the process!!!!

Wasn't this obvious?

The LOSER OF LOSERS = DONALD TRUMP
(as the following makes clear):

A Failure to Rise to the Moment
Dec. 30 3:02 pm EST

New York Times:
“Throughout late summer and fall, in the heat of a re-election campaign that he would go on to lose, and in the face of mounting evidence of a surge in infections and deaths far worse than in the spring, Mr. Trump’s management of the crisis — unsteady, unscientific and colored by politics all year — was in effect reduced to a single question:
What would it mean for him?

“The result, according to interviews with more than two dozen current and former administration officials and others in contact with the White House, was a lose-lose situation.
Mr. Trump not only ended up soundly defeated by Joseph R. Biden Jr.,
but missed his chance to show that he could rise to the moment in the final chapter of his presidency and meet the defining challenge of his tenure.

“Efforts by his aides to persuade him to promote mask wearing, among the simplest and most effective ways to curb the spread of the disease, were derailed by his conviction that his political base would rebel against anything that would smack of limiting their personal freedom. Even his own campaign’s polling data to the contrary could not sway him.”

_____

It will be an indelible fact of history that this cost many, many lives and caused much, much suffering.

He made it all about himself and his egomaniacal desire to be the world's greatest dictator.

McConnell Calls Certification His ‘Most Consequential’ Vote
5:18 pm
“In an extraordinary conference call this morning with fellow Senate Republicans, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said his Jan. 6 vote certifying Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election will be ‘the most consequential I have ever cast,'” Axios reports.

Said a source:
“The context was McConnell saying we’re being asked to overturn the results after a guy didn’t get as many electoral votes and lost by 7 million popular votes.

“Many Republican senators are furious at Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) for forcing them to take what Trump is setting up as the ultimate loyalty test on January 6th.”

OPERATION WARP SPEED SLOWS DOWN
(and he called Joe slow!)

Just 3 Million Vaccine Doses Administered
1:56 pm
Americans received just over 3 million initial doses of coronavirus vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech in the 19 days following first shipments, Bloomberg reports.

Axios: “It’s far below Operation Warp Speed’s goal of administering 20 million doses by the end of the year, raising concerns about how long it may be until enough people are vaccinated in the U.S. for life to return to normal.”

LOSER DONALD SAID WE HAD TURNED THE CORNER ON THE VIRUS AND IT WOULD SOON GO AWAY.

LOSER DONALD SAID HE WOULD HAVE TWENTY MILLION U.S. PEOPLE INNOCULATED BY THE END OF THE YEAR.

THREE MILLION HAVE BEEN.

SCOTT, YOU HAVE INDICATED HOW KEEN YOU ARE ON PEOPLE MAKING CORRECT PREDICTIONS: DO YOU SUPPOSE TRUMP WILL MANAGE SEVENTEEN MILLION INNOCULATIONS BEFORE MIDNIGHT TONIGHT?

Pence Seeks Dismissal of Case to Expand His Power
6:25 pm EST

“Vice President Pence late Thursday asked for a lawsuit that aimed to expand his power to use a congressional ceremony to overturn the presidential election be rejected, arguing that he was not the right person to sue over the issue,” the Washington Post reports.

“The filing will come as a disappointment to supporters of President Trump, who hoped that Pence would choose to set aside some of President-elect Joe Biden’s electoral college votes when Congress meets next week to certify the November election.”

DONALD WILL BE FURIOUS! HOW DARE PENCE PUT LOYALTY TO THE CONSTITUTION AHEAD OF LOYALTY TO HIM!!!

and this bears repeating:

Let Josh Hawley Put Republicans on Record
YES! LET HIM! DO! DO!

Ruth Marcus on Sen. Josh Hawley’s attempt to challenge the Electoral College tally:
“It is doomed to fail — except, perhaps, at its scarcely disguised purpose of winning Hawley favor in the eyes of the Trumpian base. Think of it as the first act of Hawley’s all-but-inevitable 2024 presidential campaign. Think of it as what it is: a stunt.

“Yet while irresponsible, Hawley’s move is not necessarily a terrible development. It forces a vote that will have the salutary effect of REQUIRING HIS REPUBLICAN COLLEAGUES TO DECIDE -- AND TO PUT ON THE RECORD -- WHETHER THEIR LOYALTY IS TO PRESIDENT TRUMP OR TO THE CONSTITUTION.

"BETTER TO KNOW.

"BETTER TO INFLICT SOME ACCOUNTABILITY RATHER THAN ENABLE THEM TO DODGE."
______________

AND THAT, DEAR FRIENDS, IS WHY THEY ARE SO FURIOUS.

IT WILL BE IN THE HISTORY BOOKS, YOU KNOW.

A year ends. A moment in time, not significant if you are considering the scale of the movement of Earth through the heavens, but meaningful to us who live by calendars created by humankind to bring added order to our lives. Of course nothing will magically change at midnight. There will be no version of a carriage reverting to a pumpkin no matter how much we might hope for fairytale endings.

The carnage of 2020 will literally bleed over into 2021 in the form of the pandemic and the constellation of hardships that encircle it. Add to this a great undercurrent of uncertainty. There are still two senate races in Georgia that will define what our government will look like. And a few more weeks for mischief making, and far worse potentially, from a defeated president who is devoid of shame and willing to try to pull down the republic as he stumbles out the door.

The impulse, self-generated though it may be, is to try to feel hope at the beginning of a new year. And yet hope can feel distant when you know how much pain is coursing through our nation, and the larger world. The odds are, tragic though they may be, that many of you have lost friends and loved ones to this deadly virus. There are real fears of rents not being paid, food not on the table, and careers lost. I am well aware of the relative privilege I and many others have at this moment. But that is why it is so important for those of us who can shoulder a greater burden to hold on to hope. We need to be better, do better, and act better in 2021. That will take hope, a belief a future can be brighter for some, and hopefully many.

One of the features of a new year is there is a sense of rebirth. This will be soon matched by days of increasing sunlight, warmer temperatures and eventually spring. We hold on to the notion that life goes in circles, even if we passengers on Earth head but in one direction with each passing year.

There is nothing like aging during a pandemic to put an even finer focus on the fragility of life. The months of isolation wear on the souls of a species that has generally sought community. But we must hang tightly to the threads of optimism, a new government, a vaccine, a committed populace, cracks in the facade of cruelty that has defined so much of our recent history.

2020 has been a chance to renew a reckoning with our nation. And for me, an unusually lucky journey through life is made all the more so by being here with you. I have some plans for 2021 for other forms of engagement. I hope you will continue to join me. But for now, I wish you all a healthy and happy new year. I pray for those grieving, ill, and suffering. I yearn for our national leadership to choose empathy and wisdom over cruelty and folly. May 2021 be a year of light out of darkness.

The Biggest Victim.

The people of the United States of America.

Our President knew how dangerous the covid-19 was on February 7th.

If he had stood up in the Congress and declared a national strategy to contain and defeat the worst medical crisis in a century, tens of thousands Americans would be alive today.

He failed because he didn't care about anyone else but himself.

Two questions for Scott:

1) Which two nations lead the rest of the world in the number of cases and deaths?

2) What do those two nations have in common?

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

Answer to the first question:

A) The U.S. reached five million coronavirus cases on Sunday, continuing to lead the world as the nation with the highest number of infections. The milestone came fewer than three weeks since hitting four million infections.

Almost five months into the COVID-19 outbreak, America also has the world's highest death toll of more than 160,000, according to a tally kept by Johns Hopkins University.

B) Globally, Brazil trails the U.S. with the second-most confirmed cases in the world, with more than three million reported. On Sunday, the South American country joined the U.S. as the only two nations to surpass 100,000 reported deaths.
_____

So, Scott, the answer to question number one is the United States and Brazil.

What is the answer to question number two?

A mask means you care about other.

A mask means you respect the first line nurses and doctors.

Discrediting masking means you don't care about anyone else, the nurses and doctors.

I am really thinking that all this personal insult and acrimony is getting out of hand.

We should stick to the national figures if we want to insult anyone. Insult Trump and tell why. Insult Biden and tell why.

The future of our nation does not depend on whether any one of us is right or wrong. It does depend on whether Trump or Biden or Bush or Obama or Reagan or Clinton or FDR or JFK or Lincoln or Jefferson or Washington, etc. etc., were right or wrong.

In this respect, the last thread became a disgrace.

And neither Scott nor anyone else has answered my second question above.

Anybody want to give it a try?
