This is why narratives succeed and fail all at the same time....

The Media Desperately Wants to Push the Anti-Asian Hysteria and Desperately Wants You to Avoid the Figures
We heard repeatedly how this shooting was an extension of the steep rise in anti-Asian hate crimes, a figure said to have spiked by 150% last year. While numerous outlets have repeated this figure, the source from where it has been referenced is less enthusiastically cited. This comes from the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University, San Bernardino. While that 150% rise sounds jarring, what we come to learn when looking over the figures is that it is rooted in a number that was significantly low to begin with. Get ready to be unimpressed.
This ‘’spike’’ in hate crimes has been described as ‘’soaring’’, ‘’jumping’’, and any other dramatic adjective. Last year, across the top urban centers, the amount of anti-Asian hate crimes was tabulated at — ONE HUNDRED TWENTY TWO. You read that correctly. 122 is the entirety of the anti-Asian hate crimes counted in the big cities. Understand this includes all manner of reports, including possibly racist words spoken or other non-violent confrontations.

So instead of saying that hate crimes against Asians went up by 73 cases, we use a percentage (150%) to make it appear all that much worse. Now obviously nobody likes to see hate crimes at all. Certainly I don't want to see hate crimes against Asians, considering I have an Asian wife, Asian sister-in-laws and Asian nieces. But let's keep this in perspective. This "increase" amounts to one more hate crime per city approximately every 11 weeks or so.

But that isn't the only problem with the narrative. This study says we have seen an increase of 73 from 49 to 122. What about that 3800 number I keep seeing on Twitter being tossed around by liberal bloggers and such? How is one study seeing 122 (even just looking at the biggest cities) whereas others are tossing around a number that is thirty times that? What am I to believe here? That there were 122 hate crimes in the large metropolitan areas that make up a large chunk of our country, but another 3678 crimes committed elsewhere? That makes no sense considering a large chunk of minorities (Asians included) live in metropolitan areas.

Moreover, I am still privy to the 2 million number, which represents the number of violent interracial incidents that are reported in an average year. That includes approximately 138,000 violent incidents against Asians by members of other races. The number 122 and 3800 are dwarfed by the much larger number of incidents that are obviously not found to be a "hate crime".  So the reality is that there is actually no good way to "objectively" define or measure hate crimes in order to accurately make any determination as to whether or not they are up, down, or holding steady.

"Hate crimes" has always been bullshit. Which is exactly why the left cooked it up. It's effectively a thought crime since the basis for it is claiming to know an individual's true motivation for committing a crime.

The victim was Asian. The murderers are black.:

Two teenage girls have been charged with murder after allegedly assaulting a man with a taser and killing him during an attempted car robbery in Washington, D.C., police said last week.

Mohammad Anwar, 66, was assaulted Tuesday with a taser when two girls attempted to carjack him, the Metropolitan Police Department said in a news release.

Graphic video posted to Twitter shows Anwar in a struggle with the suspects, who then speed off and crash and flip the car with him hanging onto the side. After arriving at the scene and transporting Anwar to the hospital, police said, "all lifesaving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead."

Anwar had been working on an UberEats delivery Tuesday when the two girls attempted to carjack him, according to a GoFundMe set up by a family member.

A 13-year-old and a 15-year-old were charged Wednesday with felony murder and armed carjacking with a taser.

Anwar immigrated from Pakistan in 2014, his family told NBC4.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A year after becoming a global epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic, New York and New Jersey are back atop the list of U.S. states with the highest rates of infection.

Even as the vaccination campaign has ramped up, the number of new infections in New Jersey has crept up by 37% in a little more than a month, to about 23,600 every seven days. About 54,600 people in New York tested positive for the virus in the last week, a number that has begun to inch up recently.

The two states now rank No. 1 and 2 in new infections per capita among U.S. states. New Jersey has been reporting about 647 new cases for every 100,000 residents over the past 14 days. New York has averaged 548.

Anti-Trump Group Steps Up Attacks on Election Deniers
“A group that opposes former President Donald Trump is dialing up the pressure on GOP lawmakers who objected to the certification of the 2020 presidential election results,” McClatchy reports.

“The Republican Accountability Project is spending $1 million on a new round of TV and digital ads criticizing six GOP members of Congress the group says ‘encouraged a deadly attack’ on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 as Electoral College votes were being counted.”

Where is GOP Outrage Over Justice Department’s Capitol Probe?

The U.S. government now holds political prisoners in jail in the nation’s capital, and the party that purports to stand for freedom, liberty, and rule of law refuses to defend them.

A federal judge this week blasted a top Justice Department official
for publicly bragging about the agency’s sprawling investigation into the January 6 Capitol melee. In an emergency hearing, U.S. District Court Judge Amit Mehta warned government prosecutors to keep quiet or face a gag order.

Mehta fumed over comments made in a television interview by former acting U.S. Attorney Michael Sherwin—he led the first two months of the nationwide manhunt for suspected “insurrectionists”—that could imperil the already shaky case against ten alleged members of the Oath Keepers. The lawyers of the defendants facing several charges including conspiracy, attended the virtual hearing on Tuesday.

“The Justice Department needs to understand that these types of public statements can jeopardize the integrity of a criminal case and affect the rights of the defendants,” Mehta said. (Sherwin reportedly is under internal investigation himself for giving the “60 Minutes” interview last week.) “No matter how much press attention this matter gets, it will be clear these defendants are entitled to a fair trial. The government, quite frankly in my view, should know better.”

The Obama-appointed judge, with those few sentences, said more to defend the rights of Trump-supporting protesters than the totality of Republican leadership in Washington, D.C.. Top Biden officials are accelerating the weaponization of powerful federal agencies against regular Americans who dared, not just to vote for Donald Trump, but also to doubt the legitimacy of the 2020 presidential election.
The Justice Department’s Capitol breach probe, its official name, gives cover to inflict severe punishment for those verboten acts and beliefs.

Judge tosses terrorism threat charge against 3 accused in alleged Whitmer plot

Three men accused in an alleged plot to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer will not face false report or threat of terrorism charges, a Jackson County judge ruled Monday.

Judge Michael Klaeren of 12th District Court in Jackson dismissed the charge against Joseph Morrison and Pete Musico, both of Munith, and declined a request by prosecutors to add it to the charges against Paul Bellar, of Milford.

"There has to be some form of intent here to incite mayhem," said Judge Michael Klaeren of 12th District Court in Jackson.

The charge carried a possible penalty of 20 years in prison.

To provide some context for the range of discrimination that’s been experienced — and show what Asian Americans have been facing as they walk down the street or make a quick stop at the grocery store in towns and cities across America — here are some accounts that have been reported to Stop AAPI Hate, in people’s own words. (Please note that these accounts include language that may be disturbing.)

MARIETTA, Georgia — “I was in line at the pharmacy when a woman approached me and sprayed Lysol all over me. She was yelling, ‘You’re the infection. Go home. We don’t want you here!’ I was in shock and cried as I left the building. No one came to my help.”

LAS VEGAS — “A [ride-hailing service] driver said to me after I got into his car, ‘Damn, another Asian riding with me today, I hope you don’t have any Covid.’ He was leaning as much as he could against the driver’s door with his head tilted toward the window, implying he doesn’t want to be close to me while I am sitting diagonally behind him as a rider. After I told him, ‘Have a good day,’ he replied back, ‘You shouldn’t be requesting any more rides from anybody.’”

SAN FRANCISCO — “I was standing in an aisle at [a hardware store] when suddenly I was struck from behind. Video surveillance verified the incident in which a white male using his bent elbow struck my upper back. Subsequent verbal attacks occurred with him saying, ‘Shut up, you Monkey!’ ‘F--k you, Chinaman,’ ‘Go back to China,’ and ‘...bringing that Chinese virus over here.’”

CUPERTINO, California — “I was shouted [at] and harassed by the cashier, workers, as well as customers to get out of the store. They said, ‘You Chinese bring the virus here and you dare ask people to keep social distance guidelines.’” Scott could have told him what to say.

LOS ANGELES — “I was at our local park with my mom, taking our daily walk. We both, of course, had our masks on. When we started walking up and down the flight of stairs we always do reps on, this lady that was on the opposite side of us with her husband, she kept making racist remarks to both me and my mom. For example, ‘Get off these steps, do you know about the Chinese disease,’ and she even referred to me as ‘Asian boy.’”

AUSTIN, Texas — “My son (9 years old) was on a summer camp field trip to [a pizza restaurant]. While there, a girl from his camp group told him that all Chinese people have the coronavirus. She said that Asians brought the virus. Then she proceeded to get the other kids to play a game called ‘corona touch’ and said that he had the ‘corona touch.’ The constant insults ended up making him cry. The camp counselors stepped in at that point to stop her.”

CLIFFSIDE, New Jersey — “My elderly grandparents (Korean) were taking our 1-year-old daughter for a walk in her stroller. A group of young men followed them, yelling that they had coronavirus. They were scared to engage (especially since they had a baby with them) and just kept walking until eventually the men lost interest and went away.”

SPRECKELS, California — “Some young men came by in a white pickup with New York license plates, slowed down, and one of them yelled, ‘Hey Ch**k! Take your virus and go back where you came from!’”

SANTA CLARA, California — “A man kicked my dog and told me to shut my dog up and then spat at me, saying, ‘Take your disease that’s ruining our country and go home.’”

Since last March, 3,795 anti-Asian incidents have been reported to Stop AAPI Hate, including everything from verbal abuse and shunning to physical assault and property damage.

Attacks documented by the organization and by media outlets have varied: Last year, an Asian American man and his two children were stabbed at a Sam’s Club in Midland, Texas, by a suspect who believed they were carrying coronavirus. In February, a Los Angeles man was punched in the face as his attackers yelled racial slurs. And two weeks ago, a ramen shop in San Antonio, Texas, was graffitied with racist terms.

To provide some context for the range of discrimination that’s been experienced — and show what Asian Americans have been facing as they walk down the street or make a quick stop at the grocery store in towns and cities across America — here are some accounts that have been reported to Stop AAPI Hate, in people’s own words. Bad news for many

We need to stop overlooking one politically incorrect COVID-19 death factor

The United States has the 13th highest COVID-19 death rate relative to population. Many different factors shaped death rates in the pandemic. But there’s one uncomfortable reason that the U.S. likely experienced more COVID-19 deaths that has largely been ignored because it’s politically incorrect.

Out-of-control obesity rates and the “body positivity” movement predating the pandemic have left the U.S. population disproportionately vulnerable to COVID-19 compared to other countries. The U.S. ranks No. 12 in obesity worldwide, one of the highest rates among developed countries. One study found that 90% of worldwide COVID-19 deaths occurred in countries with high obesity rates.

COVID-19 is much more deadly for the elderly and those with preexisting conditions that weaken the immune system. One of those conditions is obesity. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “Adults with excess weight are at even greater risk during the COVID-19 pandemic.” The CDC said that of the roughly 900,000 adult COVID-19 hospitalizations from the start of the outbreak to Nov. 18, 30% were attributed to obesity.

Meanwhile, a new study examining over 150,000 adults across 20 hospitals confirmed that obese people are much more likely to be hospitalized or to die from the virus. Severely obese COVID-19 patients were 61% more likely to die and 33% more likely to face hospitalization than their peers at healthy weights.

Unfortunately, this key factor driving high U.S. death rates has been quietly reported and largely overlooked. In woke culture, it’s considered too politically incorrect to point out that being fat is unhealthy, even as a pandemic is raging across the country and tragically claiming the lives of overweight people.

But the obesity problem in this country is real, even if we’re increasingly too scared to talk about it out loud for fear of being labeled “fatphobic.” According to Harvard’s School of Public Health, two-thirds are overweight, while one-third are “obese.” Meanwhile, among those age 2 to 19, 1 in 3 are overweight or obese.

And it’s only getting worse.

As COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions have trapped people in their homes over the last year, many have gained weight. A new American Psychological Association survey showed that 42% gained weight over the last year, an average of 29 pounds.

This alarming pre-pandemic crisis and recent acceleration should be setting off enormous alarm bells. But instead, liberal-leaning media outlets and cultural influencers have glorified obesity and downplayed its health risks.

Business At The Capitol Grinds To A Halt After Biden Falls And Blocks Hallway

WASHINGTON D.C.—Disaster has struck Congress, as President Joe Biden has fallen sideways in the main Capitol hallway and become stuck, blocking all Congressional business. Congressional staffers heard Biden gibbering incoherently, so he seems fine other than the fact that he’s stuck.

“Has he tried standing up?” Representative Jerry Nadler suggested.

“Yes, he’s tried!” Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi answered. “But has anyone tried kicking him? Like kicking him so hard in the back he spins a bit and becomes unstuck?”

“I was kicking him, but it didn't work,” said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

“We have to destroy the walls and then he’ll have room to become unstuck,” Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez stated. She then pulled out the hammer and sickle she always carries and started to attack the hallway walls. “Destroy all the walls!”

“Can’t we just step over him?” suggested Senator Ted Cruz.

“You can’t step over the president!” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer responded. “It’s disrespectful.”

“What if we built a stairway over him?” Senator Bernie Sanders asked. “I bet we could do it for under $300 billion.”

“How are we supposed to pass a $300 billion stairway project if we can’t get to the Senate chambers where I store my gavel, ya dumb-dumb?” shot back Schumer.

“We have to face facts,” declared Vice-President Kamala Harris grimly. “The only way we’re going to free up the hallway is to blow up Biden with dynamite.”

“That was your suggestion when he wouldn’t budge on the minimum wage!” said Schumer.

If Biden continues to be stuck, politicians fear that so many spending bills will now be blocked that the country could start to lose its deficit, setting a dangerous precedent.

Trump Slams Anthony Fauci and Deborah Birx
THE HILL:
Former President Trump went on a tirade against Anthony Fauci and Deborah Birx, excoriating their decisionmaking
during his administration after CNN aired previews of comments by the top government health experts, The Hill reports.

Said Trump:
“Based on their interviews, I felt it was time to speak up about Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx, two self-promoters trying to reinvent history to cover for their bad instincts and faulty recommendations, which I fortunately almost always overturned.”

He added:
“They had bad policy decisions that would have left our country open to China and others, closed to reopening our economy, and years away from an approved vaccine—putting millions of lives at risk.”
__________

YOU overturned?
Trump had better thank his lucky stars that Fauci and Birx finally managed to talk him out of packing the Churches for last Easter, which if he had done that at that time, would definitely led to a HUGE death toll.

It is Trump who is trying to "rewrite history," but his worst, most brazenly mistaken comments are a solid matter of record.

Roger, why isn't Tesla hiring all of the workers like you said they would?

So, President Biden's plan forward is to slam in the Economic brakes with both feet, throw the USA into reverse .

Jamie, 20 million jobs were lost in 2020.
Your belief that recovering a little over 2 million will fix the Economy was a failure you made .

So it’s the gubment’s responsibility to make sure the old and sickly take care of themselves?

Jamie , how is it you get the math so spectacularly wrong?

Jamie, 20 million US Jobs were lost during 2020.

"&P predicts Biden’s infrastructure plan
will create 2.3 million jobs by 2024,
inject $5.7 trillion into the economy
— which would be 10 times what was lost during the recession —"

You and Roger cheering for Biden to hammer mom and pop stores and small family farms is disgusting.

Free States Faring Far Better Than Lockdown States in One Huge Way, New Data Show

The results are in—and they overwhelmingly vindicate the free states over the authoritarian experiments.

When COVID-19 first came to our shores, it presented policymakers and elected officials with a crisis like nothing in living memory. In the year since, states have taken markedly different approaches to pandemic policy. Some, like New York, embraced sweeping government lockdowns and top-down mandates while others like Florida and South Dakota took a more humble, hands-off government approach, trusting individuals to make the best decisions for themselves.

The results are in—and they overwhelmingly vindicate the free states over the authoritarian experiments. First, we saw that states with the harshest restrictions didn’t necessarily achieve the best COVID-19 death outcomes. Florida has fared far better than New York and New Jersey, for example, and multiple studies have found no correlation between lockdown stringency and death rates.

Yet lockdowns have come at an enormous economic and human cost. We’ve seen mental health problems and child suicide spikes, an increase in domestic violence, an uptick in drug overdoses, and much, much more. And, of course, the economic toll of shutting down businesses and criminalizing “non-essential” livelihoods has been devastating.

The national unemployment rate was a poor if not disastrous 6.2 percent in February. Yet the just-released state-level unemployment rates for last month show that the devastation hasn’t been equal across the board. New Labor Department data reveal that many free states have returned to nearly their pre-pandemic unemployment rates—while lockdown states dominate the wrong end of the list.

Hands-off states such as South Dakota, Utah, Nebraska, and New Hampshire top the list with unemployment rates hovering around a stellar 3 percent. States that received enormous flak for eschewing drastic lockdowns like Georgia and Florida both rank in the top 20. Perhaps the only obvious outlier is Texas, which ranks poorly with an unemployment rate of 6.9 percent—but, then again, Governor Greg Abbott only rolled back the remaining restrictions in the Lone Star state earlier this month.

Meanwhile, the worst 10 states, with unemployment rates from 7 to 9 percent, include lockdown-happy localities like New York, New Jersey, California, Hawaii, Massachusetts, D.C., and Rhode Island.

There is a clear trend here. Free states have largely avoided the labor market carnage associated with the COVID pandemic, while lockdown states have wrought higher unemployment levels—without guaranteeing better pandemic health outcomes.

As famed economist Thomas Sowell said, in complex issues of public policy “there are no solutions, there are only tradeoffs.” There was never an easy answer to the COVID pandemic, but the economic, health, and social outcomes of free states all suggest that they made the right call in rejecting the authoritarian instinct embraced by too many of their neighbors.

Mask mandates are an excellent illustration of the failure to take COVID-19 seriously. When people stubbornly impose measures that are ineffective, it calls into question everything else they say, too.

Your chart shows that. And think of all the harm the lockdowns and masks have done.

And will continue to do over the lifetime of many, especially the young.
