Now if this is not irony, then I don't know what is. The idea that people are no longer tuning into Hollywood award shows because they are not "woke enough" or not "dedicated to diversity" is... well, not even sure how to describe it. I mean if the people at NBC even remotely believe this, then how out to lunch are they?
Obviously it feels like an excuse to cancel something that is not just getting bad ratings, but the bad ratings are embarrassing for a variety of reasons. Perhaps not having to hear about how people are not tuning in because they have no interest in watching out of touch liberal celebrities stand on a soapbox and preach politics is worth having to put forward such a ridiculous fable that the issue really is that they are not adequately politically correct.
It would be akin to suggesting that you didn't vote for Trump because he was not abrasive and controversial enough. But if he just learned how to rattle some more cages and create a little more outrage you would consider voting for him in 2024.
