President Biden zinged Democratic Sens. Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin during a speech Tuesday — insinuating that they align themselves more with Republicans than their own party — while calling for Congress to take action on legislation to protect voting rights.
While he didn’t name them, Biden indirectly referred to Manchin, D-W.Va., and Sinema, D-Ariz., as “two members of the Senate who vote more with my Republican friends.”
“I hear all the folks on [TV] saying, ‘Why doesn’t Biden get this done?’” he said at an event in Tulsa, Okla. “Well, because Biden only has a majority of effectively four votes in the House and a tie in the Senate, with two members of the Senate who vote more with my Republican friends.”Gotta love the hypocrisy of Democrats who think that Liz Cheney is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but that somehow Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema (who both represent purple if not red states) are traitors to America.
The difference, of course, is that Liz Cheney is a lost cause never-Trumper who is not unlike those Japanese soldiers found on deserted islands still fighting WWII years after it had ended. At least those Japanese soldiers did have the excuse that they were not aware that the war was over. Has Liz Cheney still not gotten the memo that Trump is no longer President and that it's time to move forward? Seems like she should have been made aware of that.
A 50-50 Senate and a House that has a four vote advantage is not the manner in which large mandates are made. Moreover, much of what the President proposes is unpopular with the constituents that Manchin and Sinema represent. Why he would just expect them to fall in line with things that neither they (or the people they represent) are comfortable with?

WASHINGTON — Former President Donald Trump has discontinued his short-lived blog.
"It was just auxiliary to the broader efforts we have [been] and are working on,” Trump adviser Jason Miller said in confirming the decision to scrap "From the Desk of Donald J. Trump." The news was first reported by CNBC.
The move comes as Trump is set to return to the campaign trail in an effort to help Republicans win control of the House and Senate in the 2022 midterms as he considers whether to mount a third presidential campaign.
While he didn’t name them, Biden indirectly referred to Manchin, D-W.Va., and Sinema, D-Ariz., as “two members of the Senate who vote more with my Republican friends.”

Conservative Publishing Has a Joe Biden Problem

McKay Coppins:
“In the conservative book world, nothing is supposed to set off a gold rush like a new Democratic president. Ever since Bill Clinton inspired a wave of right-wing best sellers in the ’90s, publishing houses that cater to Republican readers have learned to make the most of a new villain in the Oval Office, churning out polemics and exposés that aim to capitalize on fear of the new president.
“Unless, that is, the new president is Joe Biden.
“His presidency may be young, but industry insiders have told me in recent weeks that the market for anti-Biden books is ice cold.
Authors have little interest in writing them,
editors have little interest in publishing them, and
—though the hypothesis has yet to be tested—
it’s widely assumed that READERS WOULD HAVE LITTLE INTEREST IN BUYING THEM.
In many ways, the dynamic represents a microcosm of the current political moment:
Facing a new president whose relative dullness is his superpower, the American right has gone hunting for richer targets to elevate.”

Has Donald Trump still not gotten the memo that he is no longer President and that it's time to move forward? Seems like he should have been made aware of that by the GOP.
HA HA HA HA HA AH-HA!
The greatest danger to American democracy right now is not coming from Russia, China, or North Korea. It is coming from the Republican Party.
Only 25 percent of voters self-identify as Republican, the GOP’s worst showing against Democrats since 2012 and sharply down since last November. But those who remain in the Party are far angrier, more ideological, more truth-denying, and more racist than Republicans who preceded them.
And so are the lawmakers who represent them.
Today’s Republican Party increasingly is defined not by its shared beliefs but by its shared delusions.
Last Friday, 54 U.S. senators voted in favor of proceeding to debate a House-passed bill to establish a commission to investigate the causes and events of the January 6th insurrection. This was 6 votes short of the number of votes needed for “cloture,” or stopping debate – meaning any further consideration of the bill would have been filibustered by Republicans indefinitely.
So there will be no investigation.
The 54 Senators who voted yes to cloture – in favor of the commission – represent 189 million Americans, or 58% of the American population. The 35 who voted no represent 104 million Americans, or 32% of the population.
In other words, 32% of American voters got to decide that the nation would not know about what happened to American democracy on January 6.

Prosecutors seek to drop first Capitol riot case
The case against Christopher Kelly of New York City is the first of nearly 500 stemming from the Capitol to collapse for lack of evidence.
Federal prosecutors told a federal judge Tuesday that they intend to drop a Capitol riot case against a New York man accused of having been inside the Capitol during the siege in January.
It is the first of the nearly 500 Capitol riot cases to collapse for lack of evidence.
The man, Christopher Kelly of New York City, was arrested Jan. 20 after the FBI said a paid confidential informant told agents that Kelly was posting material on a Facebook Messenger app about the riot and his plans to be in Washington on Jan. 6. The informant said a photo taken inside the Capitol was also posted, according to the FBI.
In the charging documents filed in court, an FBI agent said, "I believe the messages and image ... reflect that Chris Kelly was using this account to inform associates that he had breached the Capitol and was inside."
The court document accompanying the charges included photos that the FBI said showed Kelly on the Capitol grounds, but they did not include any further indication that he entered the building.

The best evidence of the growing political power of the American Left and the irrelevance of its political theories is the nationwide deployment of an anti-racism which claims that racism is invisible and yet is everywhere. Its books and curriculums lay out a conspiratorial theory of intangible racism that can only be approached through the lived experience of oppressed people, but which cannot be described meaningfully in any factual and objective fashion.
Real oppression, like slave chains, is tangible. Critical race theory depends on sensitizing everyone to claims of oppression that are either blatantly false, e.g. the police committing genocide against black people, or can’t be objectively defined, e.g. systemic racism.
The more critical race theorists talk about ‘whiteness’, the less they’re able to define it except in the ways that religious people define a deity or the devil: as an intangible force pervading everything, only manifest to those who understand the hidden meanings of everyday events.
Religion, unlike critical race theory, is a private matter. And few religions are as racist as CRT which insists on the unalterable evil of white people and the helpless victimhood of minorities.
But, like the USSR’s insistence that the old Bolsheviks were really working for the Brits, or the new Democrat insistence that all the Republicans work for Russia, state conspiracy theories shouldn’t be taken literally, but they should be taken seriously.
What does oppression look like in a country where the Democrats control the White House, the Senate, and the House, and every major corporation advocates for their agendas? What does it sound like when the educational system and the media are controlled by the Left, censoring and suppressing dissenting points of view? Oppression can no longer be about fighting power.
Not when the power is in the hands of the oppressers who claim to be oppressed.
America has reached the tipping point where all the power is in the hands of the Left, but we haven’t comprehensively lost our freedoms yet. In an un-free society, the oppressed are the people with no rights. But in a free society, the oppressed are most often the oppressors.
Oppression in an un-free society is characterized by a lack of rights, but in a free society, it’s defined by a lack of power. And power in a free society is a means of depriving others of rights.
Critical race theory, for all its posturing about the police, is concerned with power, not rights.
THANKEE, UNCLE JOE!
Only a fucking moron claps and cheers at the prospect of being bribed with his own money.

So far, the Fauci FOIA emails show:
-He had some urgent, time sensitive discussions about gain of function.
-Told colleagues retail masks don't work due to size of virus.
-Ignored scientist who told him China was lying about virus and data.

Of course, Fauci contradicted these emails in congressional testimony on multiple occasions. From playing dumb to saying the opposite of what he knew to be true, an uncorrupted corporate press would be blowing this story up, particularly on Wuhan Lab info.

Trump shuts down his blog after less than a month
By Oliver Darcy, CNN Business
Updated 3 hours ago Jun 2, 2021
New York (CNN Business) - The blog page that former President Donald Trump launched less than one month ago, after his team suggested he'd be launching a major new social platform, has been permanently shuttered.
Jason Miller, a senior aide to Trump, told CNBC that the page "will not be returning."
Miller confirmed to CNN that the page had been scrubbed.
"It was just auxiliary to the broader efforts we have and are working on," Miller said.
Those who attempt to visit the page are now greeted with a web form asking for their contact information to receive updates through email or text message.
The blog, called "From the Desk of Donald J. Trump," was launched May 4 and came months after the former President had been banned from Facebook and Twitter.
At the time, the page was billed as a platform by which Trump could speak directly to his supporters.
Fox News, which first reported that Trump had started the blog, dubbed it a "new communications platform."
But late last month, Trump disputed Fox's framing in a statement.
"This is meant to be a temporary way of getting my thoughts and ideas out to the public without the Fake News spin, but the website is not a platform," he said.

James lied and he lied big time. I would challenge him to refute and facts in this article but he would just run away or worst hide behind Goodard's Spam.
The Texas Voting Lie; None of the bill’s provisions would actually prevent anyone from voting, no matter what Democrats say.
(CNN) - Dr. Anthony Fauci was a regular on American televisions as the pandemic unfolded across the country and millions looked to the leading expert for insight and guidance on how to defeat the virus.
He was fielding dozens of questions every day off screen too, answering emails from team members, former colleagues, old friends, reporters, producers, celebrities -- and sometimes strangers desperate for advice or looking to leave a note of "thanks."
BuzzFeed News published more than 3,200 pages of emails from Fauci's inbox after obtaining correspondence spanning from January to June 2020, and The Washington Post published excerpts from more than 860 pages of emails during March and April 2020. CNN also obtained a number of emails from February, but many were heavily redacted.
While many federal government staffers prefer the phone to email, this correspondence offers a rare glimpse into Fauci's frantic schedule and polite, to-the-point demeanor during the time he emerged as a rare source of frank honesty within the Trump administration's Covid-19 task force.
But they also reveal the weight that came with the role.
"This is White House in full overdrive and I am in the middle of it," Fauci wrote in a February 2 email published by BuzzFeed. "Reminiscent of post-anthrax days."
Two days later, responding to a journalist, he writes, "I am really tired. Not much sleep these days."
'Am hanging in there'
The director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases -- and a doctor for the National Institutes of Health for more than 50 years -- Fauci had worked under six US presidents including then-President Donald Trump before he became the public face of the federal response to Covid-19.
It didn't take long for questions to come streaming into his inbox, often from news stations across the globe and radio shows asking for several minutes of his time for an interview.
Howard Bauchner, editor-in-chief of JAMA emailed Fauci on February 5 with a note at the bottom, "You surviving -- worried a bit about your workload."
"Am hanging in there," Fauci replied, according to the emails obtained by BuzzFeed. "Feels like my internship and first year residency when I was on every other night and every other weekend, but actually never left the hospital because the patients were so sick."
Several weeks later, National Institutes of Health Director Dr. Francis Collins, Fauci's boss, attached a short reminder at the end of his email to Fauci: "Get some sleep!"
In an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer in June, Fauci called the work "exhausting."
"I'm chronically fatigued, I don't get a lot of sleep," he said. "I'm constantly briefing, talking, doing things, hopefully getting the right cause out."
And if the exhaustion ever turned to frustration, Fauci certainly never let it show. His exchanges -- however short -- always seemed pleasant. "Let us discuss," he'd signal to his team when a new request came in. "Thank you for your note," was often his response to the scores of thankful notes streaming in.
'Do not hesitate to call or email'
Despite a plate already overflowing with a pandemic raging out of control, Fauci found the time to respond to notes of support and questions for medical advice -- even when they came from complete strangers.
When someone reached out on March 4 with a question on whether pneumonia vaccines could provide some protection against severe Covid-19, Fauci responded in detail about an hour later.
"Oh my god," the person wrote back, according the emails published by BuzzFeed. "I honestly never expected you to reply and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being so generous."
When a doctor emailed him in late February suspecting a patient may have coronavirus, Fauci advised on next steps, the emails published by BuzzFeed show.
"Do not hesitate to call or e-mail me," he signed off.
T
To those who reached out fearful of what could be coming, Fauci was honest -- both about what experts knew and didn't know.
"The really critical issue is what the mortality rate actually turns out to be," he wrote in a March 2 email published by BuzzFeed. "I am hoping for a considerably lower mortality rate, but that might be wishful thinking. Whatever it turns out to be, the major tools that we have are public health measures, particularly social distancing, which we have to start doing right now."
At the time, he said, one vaccine candidate was soon starting their Phase 1 trial but added a "vaccine is out of the question for at least a year or more."
'I have never been muzzled'
The veteran doctor earned scores of supporters and detractors as he held firm against an at times overly optimistic Trump who frequently sought to downplay the severity of the pandemic.
Fauci and Trump disagreed on how to approach the pandemic, what the correct message was for the American people and how to balance reopening with preventing further contagion. Through it all, Trump insisted he respected Fauci but disagreed with his approach. But at their relationship's low point, Trump suggested he was considering firing him. Attacks from Trump's allies led to enhanced security. In August, Fauci told CNN's Sanjay Gupta he had to get security protection after his family received death threats and harassment.
When a Chinese health official reached out in concern, Fauci replied, "All is well despite some crazy people in this world," according to an April email obtained by BuzzFeed and the Post.
Despite it all, Fauci maintained he was never influenced by politics or deterred from speaking the truth.
When a columnist emailed in late February asking whether Fauci had received orders to get approval before speaking publicly about the virus, Fauci said, "I have never been muzzled or told that I could not speak out publicly about anything during this administration," according to emails published by BuzzFeed.
After a March 1 email from a psychologist expressing concern about whether Fauci was being censored, he responded, "I can assure you that I am not being censored."
As the former President's time in office began to wind down, aides restricted how much Fauci could appear on television to offer warnings and disinvited him from briefing Trump in the Oval Office.
Their turbulent relationship stands in stark contrast to President Joe Biden's elevation of Fauci to chief medical adviser -- a role where he's been free to promote public health advice without scorn from the Oval Office.
During his first press conference under the Biden administration, Fauci signaled the days of overconfidence and loose facts were over.
"One of the things new with this administration is if you don't know the answer, don't guess," he said in January. "Just say you don't know the answer."

The big lie Cumswaller Harris LMAO at you Scott.
Good Wednesday morning.
Two minutes of hate:
X
On Tuesday, Joe Biden traveled to Tulsa, Oklahoma to mark the 100 year anniversary of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, when a mob of white Tulsans burned and looted the thriving Black neighborhood of Greenwood. At the commemoration, Biden announced new plans to address racial inequity via the power of the government. The new plans will:
expand and target federal purchasing power to benefit more minority-owned businesses. His administration will also submit in the coming days multiple rules that strengthen anti-discrimination housing measures rolled back during the Trump administration.
The White House also announced a “first-of-its-kind” effort to “address inequity in home appraisals and issue new rules to combat housing discrimination.” It also plans to “boost federal contracting with ‘small disadvantaged businesses’ by 50 percent, awarding $100 billion over five years.”
And the announcements kept coming. Biden announced he was handing off the voting rights issue to Kamala Harris who is also in charge of the “root causes” of the immigration crisis but has yet to visit the border and see the crisis for herself. The media, like Harris, doesn’t care about any of the issues they were hysterical about under the Trump Administration: children in cages, dirty detention centers, sex and drug trafficking. Where are the lawsuits? Where are the congressional hearings? Where are the leaks about the inhumane conditions? POOF. Gone.
Harris promptly released a statement about her new powers and said:
voting rights were “under assault” in the U.S. as more than 300 election security bills across the nation had been introduced since the 2020 election. She, like Biden, called on Congress to pass the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
Biden, Harris and their radicals repeatedly refer to state efforts to secure the voting process from fraud as “voter suppression.” They routinely insult minority voters by claiming minorities are unable to acquire voter ID or find a polling place to vote in person. In fact Biden said much the same thing yesterday in Tulsa when he explained that black business owners don’t have access to lawyers and accountants.

The remains of Confederate Lt. Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest and his wife Mary will be moved to a museum
Nathan Bedford Forrest was an unrepentant racist and traitor. When the civil war ended he refused to take the oath of allegiance to the United States. And he remain defiant until his death. Of all the Confederate heros the south chose to memorialize, he was the worst.
Biden's plan will continue to use public and private-sector partnerships, mirroring the “whole of government” effort he deployed to make vaccines more widely available after he took office. The president said he was “pulling out all the stops” to drive up the vaccination rate.
Among those efforts is a promotional giveaway announced Wednesday by Anheuser-Busch, saying it will “buy Americans 21+ a round of beer” once Biden’s 70% goal is met.

This is important because nearly every mainstream report cites the Brennan Center on what is and what isn’t “voter suppression.”
And those are literally just liberal talking points.
-----
Every time you see an article cite the “impartial” Brennan center, remember
It was founded to honor “the father of [liberal] judicial activism”
Top donor: George Soros
Funded by Tides foundation liberal dark money network
Ties to Biden WH through SKDKnickerbocker
Media need to stop using the Brennan Center as an impartial authority.
Everyone cites their “x number of bills to restrict voting” but that total includes bills to provide security drop boxes, popular voter ID laws, clearing dead people off voter rolls..
https://brennancenter.org/our-work/research-reports/voting-laws-roundup-march-2021
Here’s the NYT, Washington Post, Axios, and CNBC citing the Uber-partisan Brennan Center as an impartial authority on election policy.
Trying to imagine the reaction if media cited an Antonin Scalia think-tank funded by the Koch brothers as impartial authorities on policy.
Yep the same George Soros who got a bunch of left-wing antifa loving DA's elected.

JERUSALEM (AP) — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s opponents announced they have reached a deal to form a new governing coalition, paving the way for the ouster of the longtime Israeli leader.
The dramatic announcement by opposition leader Yair Lapid and his main coalition partner, Naftali Bennett, came moments before a midnight deadline and prevented the country from plunging into what would have been its fifth consecutive election in just over two years.
In a statement on Twitter, Lapid said he had informed the country’s president of the deal. “This government will work for all the citizens of Israel, those that voted for it and those that didn’t. It will do everything to unite Israeli society,” he said.
Under the agreement, Lapid and Bennett will split the job of prime minister in a rotation. Bennett will serve the first two years, while Lapid is to serve the final two years. The historic deal also includes a small Islamist party, the United Arab List, which would make it the first Arab party ever to be part of a governing coalition.
Scott's bias makes him conclude that what ever I say is biased against the no longer President.

Sisolak pledges to sign public option health care bill
CARSON CITY — Nevada looks set to become the second state in the nation to enact a “public option” health insurance plan after Gov. Steve Sisolak said he intends to put his signature to state Democrats’ signature health care legislation.
“I’m going to sign the public option (bill),” Sisolak said in a wide-ranging, post-Legislature interview Tuesday with reporters. The first-term Democrat also explained his reasoning for not supporting the failed death penalty ban, where his signature “innovation zones” concept goes from here and more.
While billed as a “public option” by supporters, Nevadans who purchase plans via the system created by Senate Bill 420 won’t be buying their insurance directly from the state.
Instead, the legislation will create something closer to a public-private partnership in which insurance companies that participate in the state’s Medicaid program will be required to offer middle-tier plans on the state health care exchange that could cost 5 percent less than similar plans starting in 2026, and as much as 15 percent less by 2030.
But questions remain about how effective the plan would be at lowering overall costs for health care premiums and chipping away at the state’s high uninsured rate, the two major claims made by the bill’s supporters.
SB 420 also includes an actuarial study to look at what kind of impact the additional option could have on those areas, and Sisolak said he was “really happy” that the study stayed in the bill.
“Anytime there’s an opportunity to get health care coverage available for more Nevadans, it’s certainly something I’m interested in,” he said.
Nevada had 349,000 uninsured residents in 2019, and it ranked seventh in the nation for highest percentage of uninsured at 11.5 percent, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation. The rate among Hispanics is nearly 22 percent, according to the foundation.
Washington was the first state with a similar structure after it passed the law to create Cascade Care in 2019.

-He had some urgent, time sensitive discussions about gain of function.
-Told colleagues retail masks don't work due to size of virus.
-Ignored scientist who told him China was lying about virus and data.
-Was well aware of possible lab leak
Of course, Fauci contradicted these emails in congressional testimony on multiple occasions. From playing dumb to saying the opposite of what he knew to be true, an uncorrupted corporate press would be blowing this story up, particularly on Wuhan Lab info.

After former President Donald Trump's first national security adviser Michael Flynn appeared to express support for a coup in the United States, The New York Times' Maggie Haberman reports Trump himself has been baselessly asserting he will be back in the White House this year.
Haberman tweeted on Tuesday, in response to reporting about Flynn's comments about a coup in the United States, that Trump "has been telling a number of people he's in contact with that he expects he will get reinstated by August" — confirming in a subsequent tweet she means reinstated as president.
"No that isn't how it works," Haberman added, "but simply sharing the information."
The reporting comes after Flynn at a QAnon conference over the weekend was asked why there can't be a coup in the United States like in Myanmar, and he said, "No reason, I mean, it should happen." He later claimed he was misquoted and said there is "NO reason whatsoever for any coup in America, and I do not and have not at any time called for any action of that sort."

Trump Is Increasingly Consumed with Ballot Audits
June 2, 2021 at 9:49 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment
“Former president Donald Trump remains relentlessly focused on the false claim that the November election was stolen from him and is increasingly consumed with the notion that ballot reviews pushed by his supporters around the country could prove that he won,” the Washington Post reports.
“Trump has rebuffed calls from some advisers to drop the matter, instead fixating on an ongoing Republican-commissioned audit in Arizona and plotting how to secure election reviews in other states, such as Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, New Hampshire and Georgia… He is most animated by the efforts in Fulton County, Ga., and Maricopa County, Ariz.”

Trump shuts down his blog, frustrated by its low readership.
Former President Donald J. Trump has removed himself entirely from the internet.
Still banned from Twitter and Facebook, and struggling to find a way to influence news coverage since leaving office, Mr. Trump decided on Wednesday to shutter his do-it-yourself alternative, a blog he had started just a month ago called “From the Desk of Donald J. Trump.”
Mr. Trump had become frustrated after hearing from friends that the site was getting little traffic and making him look small and irrelevant, according to a person familiar with his thinking.
The site, which cost a few thousand dollars to make and was put together for Mr. Trump by a company run by his former campaign manager Brad Parscale, was intended to be an online hub for supporters to see statements issued by the former president and communicate with him.
“In a time of silence and lies, a beacon of freedom arises,” a video introducing the platform last month advertised. “A place to speak freely and safely. Straight from the desk of Donald J. Trump.”
Last month, after The Washington Post reported that the blog was attracting virtually no readership, Mr. Trump played down its purpose, calling it a stopgap measure until he figured out what came next.
“This is meant to be a temporary way of getting my thoughts and ideas out to the public without the Fake News spin, but the website is not a ‘platform,’” he said in a statement. “It is merely a way of communicating until I decide on what the future will be for the choice or establishment of a platform.”
Some people in his small circle of advisers said on Wednesday that they were frustrated by his decision to shut it down. Others tried to put a more positive spin on it.
Jason Miller, an adviser, said on Twitter that the decision to suspend the blog was a precursor to Mr. Trump’s joining another social media platform.
“Yes, actually, it is,” he wrote when asked if the move meant that Mr. Trump would be returning to social media in another form. “Stay tuned!”

The Biden presidency has been one disaster after another
When veteran journalist Bob Woodward revealed his Feb. 7 conversations with Trump, exposing that the president knew how deadly the virus was, Gibney knew he had to include it in the film, but the question was where? His experience and cinematic eye allowed him, along with his co-directors, to try versions with the chronological sequence of events, or using it at the end to show how we got there. They found a sweet spot in the middle that adds to the film’s emotional impact.
The New York native takes the responsibility as a filmmaker seriously. “When I make a film like this, it’s very difficult for me to sleep soundly because I take problems to bed with me.” In a cinematic twist of irony, he says the night he locked the picture and scheduled the release of their first trailer (the next morning), was his first night of peaceful sleep in a long time. That same morning Gibney received a call that Trump had tested positive for the coronavirus. The co-filmmakers ultimately decided to acknowledge it as part of the film at the end.
When asked who is tougher, the Trump administration of the Church of Scientology, Gibney jokingly shares, “I got more cards and letters from the Church of Scientology. One is creepier, and one is far more dangerous.”
“This is a crisis that didn’t have to happen. These were deaths that didn’t have to happen. And these deaths were in some ways intentional by virtue of political expediency, and that was really the most terrifying thing of all. So if you’re thinking about what’s dangerous, that’s pretty dangerous. Two hundred thousand plus people die because of political calculation.”

Biden may hit July 4 vaccine goal, but millions of unvaccinated Americans will keep COVID alive this summer
Yahoo News
June 2, 2021
There’s a real chance America could reach President Biden’s ambitious goal of giving 70 percent of U.S. adults at least one COVID-19 vaccine shot by July 4, according to the latest data.
Yet Biden’s top COVID adviser, Dr. Anthony Fauci, just spent the holiday weekend warning Americans not to “declare victory prematurely because we still have a ways to go.”
To see how both of these things can be true at the same time, pay attention to what’s happening right now in Mesa County, Colo., and northern Missouri.
At a national level, America’s COVID-19 prognosis is the best it’s been since the crisis began. Over the last two weeks, cases have fallen 45 percent, on average, to the lowest level since March 2020. Hospitalizations are down 22 percent over the same period; deaths are down 44 percent. And because of mass vaccination, these national trends show no sign of stopping.
It’s now entirely possible, in fact, that 70 percent of U.S. adults could be at least partially vaccinated by Independence Day, a target Biden set on May 4, when 56 percent of U.S. adults had received at least one jab. In less than a month, that number has climbed 7 points to 63 percent; to climb another 7 points over the next month would require about 550,000 adults to get their first shot each day. Before Memorial Day, the U.S. was averaging more than 700,000 of these first shots each day, and the vast majority of them were still going to Americans 18 and older.
Yet there’s also a flip side to all the good news. Even if 70 percent of U.S. adults are partially vaccinated by July 4, that would still leave 30 percent of them unvaccinated — and few are likely to change their minds anytime soon. According to a new Kaiser Family Foundation survey, just 8 percent of unvaccinated adults say they want a shot as soon as possible or that they plan to get one within the next three months. Meanwhile, no one under 12 will be eligible before September, and hesitancy is higher among parents of younger children than among adults.
In short, well over 40 percent of the total population — upwards of 140 million Americans, including children — will likely remain unvaccinated this summer. And there will be more unvaccinated people in some places than others.
When Fauci cautions against prematurely declaring victory and insists we “still have a ways to go,” that's what he means.
But what will America look like when the emergency ends and COVID is still circulating?
That question will define the next phase of the U.S. pandemic. The last statewide mask mandates will soon be gone. Business will be fully open. Life will largely return to normal. Yet certain communities will remain vulnerable to COVID, in large part because they have chosen to remain that way.
“Unfortunately these groups of people who are anti-vax or who will end up being susceptible to the disease are going to be in pockets,” Tara Kirk Sell, a senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, recently told the Guardian. “It’s not going to be evenly distributed through the population.”
Which brings us back to Mesa County, Colo., and northern Missouri.
Nationally, the U.S. is averaging five new daily cases per every 100,000 residents. But two rural counties in northern Missouri — Livingston and Linn — were logging new daily cases at MORE THAN 25 TIMES THAT RATE before Memorial Day interrupted reporting. Over the last two weeks, COVID-19 cases have skyrocketed. More than 18 percent of tests are coming back positive (compared with 2 percent nationally). Hospitalizations are rising as well.
According to local authorities, the problem is threefold. Neither Linn nor Livingston was hit hard by previous waves of COVID, meaning that cases are now higher than ever and natural immunity is relatively low. Just 30 percent of the population, meanwhile, has been fully vaccinated — 11 points below the national average. And “everything’s wide open” in terms of restrictions, as one public-health official recently told the Missouri Independent.
“With graduation we had schools that took senior trips and had students all on buses together for four to six hours,” explained Linn County Health Administrator Krista Neblock. “The kids were developing symptoms and continuing with festivities. And they only got tested on a Monday, after they had gone around and infected a significant number of people.”
Long-standing resistance to masks coupled with evolving CDC guidance, added Sherry Weldon, Neblock’s counterpart in Livingston County, means almost no faces are being covered anymore.
“I just cringe,” she told the Independent, “when I see baseball games and basketball games in cities and nobody is wearing a mask.”
At the same time, Missouri’s daily vaccination rate has fallen to less than a quarter of its April peak.
“I would say the majority are 65 and older that we got a good response from, and we homed in on them and made sure it is available here,” Weldon said. But beyond that group, she added, even convincing health care workers to be vaccinated has been difficult.
Many communities across the country still fit the Linn/Livingston mold: relatively low immunity from prior exposure combined with relatively low vaccination rates. In a world without masks or social distancing, they remain at risk.
“When people say why [is this happening], my first comment or thought is, ‘You wouldn’t be having this problem if you had gotten a shot,’” Weldon said.
The situation in Mesa County, Colo., meanwhile, illustrates a slightly different threat. There, COVID-19 has surged before, and today’s average daily case count (33 per every 100,000 residents) is about one-quarter as high as November’s peak. But even that number is nearly seven times the current national average, and prior to Memorial Day, it had increased by 30 percent over the previous two weeks.
Why? It might have to do with a discovery local officials made in early May: that the highly contagious COVID-19 variant behind India’s deadly spring outbreak has now started to spread in Mesa County, which includes the city of Grand Junction.
As with all COVID variants, the approved vaccines offer near-perfect protection against B.1.617.2. But just 33 percent of Mesa County residents are fully vaccinated.
“Of those 20 [B.1.617.2 cases] that we know about, all but two were not vaccinated — and the two that were only had one of the two vaccinations,” Jeff Kuhr, executive director of Mesa County Public Health, told Colorado Public Radio on May 18.
“That really is the key here,” Denver physician and medical journalist Dr. Dave Hnida recently explained. “This is a more contagious strain. … If you do not get a vaccine, you are unprotected.”
Across Colorado, the numbers tell a clear story about who’s getting sick and who isn’t. According to another CPR report published Tuesday, about 500 people remain hospitalized statewide with COVID-19 — and “almost all of them … are unvaccinated.” Likewise, CPR reported that “doctors in hospitals treating COVID-19 patients in the state can’t recall a single death of a vaccinated person.” And when the Colorado health department recently plotted both COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations against vaccinations, county by county, it found that “Denver area and mountain counties with higher vaccination rates [are] seeing fewer cases and hospitalizations” — while “more people are still getting sick and hospitalized due to the virus” in “counties like El Paso, Pueblo, Weld and Mesa [that] have recorded fewer vaccinations per capita.”
National numbers follow the same pattern. A recent analysis by the Washington Post, for instance, found that unvaccinated Americans are being hospitalized and dying with COVID-19 at significantly higher rates than Americans overall; in several states, the virus is spreading as fast among the unvaccinated as it did during the winter surge.
To be sure, the scale of the threat is much smaller than it was back then. Linn and Livingston counties are currently averaging roughly 20 new COVID cases per day; Mesa is averaging 50. These aren’t the sort of huge outbreaks that devastated, say, Los Angeles over the holidays. More than 165 million Americans have been vaccinated, including 86 percent of seniors (i.e., the people who are most likely to get seriously ill or die from COVID). The more people who have immunity, the harder it gets for the virus to find its next host; in effect, vaccinated Americans are protecting unvaccinated Americans from themselves.
That will continue to be the case. But who knows how much protection other people’s immunity will provide when new variants emerge, or when the weather drives less vaccinated communities indoors? Will new clusters like Linn and Livingston and Mesa crop up? Will sickness and death follow?
When it comes to COVID, each statistic — however small — represents another human life. Last week in Mesa County, a child died after testing positive for the B.1.617.2 variant — the county’s first pediatric COVID death to date. According to Mesa County Public Health, the child was hospitalized before her age group was eligible to receive the vaccine — and after contracting COVID from a family member.
Was that relative vaccinated? Would that child still be alive if they had been? What about the 500 other people nationwide who will have died of COVID today, and tomorrow, and the day after?
For most Americans, vaccinated and unvaccinated, normal life will resume in the weeks and months ahead, if it hasn’t already. The difference is that even though we now have the power to prevent nearly all sickness and death, unvaccinated Americans will be choosing to live with some degree of it.

Time Running Out on Infrastructure Deal

“The White House is making it increasingly clear that time is running out to craft a bipartisan agreement on rebuilding the nation’s infrastructure, taking a sharper tone that could soon clear Democrats to act on their own to achieve President Biden’s jobs ambitions but deny him the deal with Republicans he has actively sought for weeks,” the Washington Post reports.
“The urgent tone reflects the political choices confronting Biden, a would-be dealmaker, as liberals grow increasingly restless about delayed action on the president’s sweeping jobs plan that is a centerpiece of the Democratic agenda.”

Worker filings for unemployment benefits likely fell again last week, adding to signs of a healing labor market as the U.S. economy ramps up.
Economists surveyed by The Wall Street Journal forecast that weekly unemployment claims, a proxy for layoffs, declined below 400,000 last week from 406,000 the prior week. That level would mark the fewest claims since the Covid-19 crisis began last year and the fifth straight week claims have reached a fresh pandemic low.
Economists separately expect that the May employment report, set to be released on Friday, will show that the economy added 674,000 jobs last month, after gaining 266,000 in April, and that the unemployment rate fell to 5.9% in May from 6.1% the prior month.
The expected labor-market developments would point to a budding economic expansion as rising vaccination rates quell Covid-19 case numbers and governments ease restrictions on businesses.

(Reuters) -Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin asked a judge on Wednesday for probation after being convicted for the murder of George Floyd, while the prosecution said his crime "shocked the Nation's conscience" and he should be imprisoned for 30 years.
In a motion filed with Hennepin County District Judge Peter Cahill, lawyer Eric Nelson said Chauvin's actions in pinning Floyd to the pavement during an arrest was "best described as an error made in good faith" based on his training.
"Mr. Chauvin asks the Court to look beyond its findings, to his background, his lack of criminal history, his amenability to probation, to the unusual facts of this case, and to his being a product of a 'broken' system," Nelson wrote.

The U.S. has brought new coronavirus infections down to the lowest level since March 2020, when the pandemic began.
The big picture: Nearly every week for the past 56 weeks, Axios has tracked the change — more often than not, the increase — in new COVID-19 infections. Those case counts are now so low, the virus is so well contained, that this will be our final weekly map.
By the numbers: The U.S. averaged roughly 16,500 new cases per day over the past week, a 30% improvement over the week before. New cases declined in 43 states and held steady in the other seven.
The official case counts haven’t been this low since Americans went into lockdown in March last year — when the pandemic was still new, no one knew how long this would go on, and inadequate testing meant that cases were undercounted.
Overall, roughly 33 million Americans — about 10% of the population — have tested positive for COVID-19.
About 595,000 people have died from the virus in the U.S., making it deadlier for Americans than the past 80 years of wars and other armed conflicts combined, including World War II.
The U.S. largely failed to contain the virus until the vaccines arrived.
Cities and businesses began shutting down last March. From there, the virus rolled into a second wave last summer, when cases climbed to over 65,000 per day, on average, and hospitals in many parts of the country said they were overwhelmed. That failure was then eclipsed in the winter, when hundreds of thousands of people per day were contracting the virus and deaths climbed over 3,000 per day for about a month.

Fauci Team Scrambled in January 2020 to Respond to Lab Leak Allegations, Emails Show
The insight into their response comes from examining over 3,000 pages of emails belonging to Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), which were released under the Freedom of Information Act and provide a detailed timeline of events.
The emails suggest the officials were concerned about previous U.S. involvement with the lab, and that they had knowledge of public statements made by the Wuhan lab’s director about U.S. funding being used for controversial research conducted there.
Following the officials’ conversations, public discussion of the source being a potential lab leak was actively suppressed by social media platforms, health officials, and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Burned-out blogger Donald Trump is the most relatable Donald Trump. And it seems that's exactly what he is, after he shuttered his "From the Desk of Donald J. Trump" blog (yes that's what it was really called) after less than a month of posting.
An unnamed adviser told The Washington Post that Trump called it quits on the media biz because he was annoyed people were mocking his posts and that he had low readership. But Trump adviser Jason Miller insisted the site was "just auxiliary to the broader efforts we have and are working on."
Miller declined to offer details of what's to come. Though, as Mic's AJ Dellinger notes, if Trump wants to follow media trends he should really try to land himself on Substack.
My economic recovery is setting record numbers!
Private job growth for May accelerated at its fastest pace in nearly a year as companies hired nearly a million workers, according to a report Thursday from payroll processing firm ADP.
Total hires came to 978,000 for the month, a big jump from April’s 654,000 and the largest gain since the 4.35 million added in June 2020 as the national economy came out of its Covid-19 lockdown. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been looking for 680,000.

att Gaetz (R-Fla.) is being investigated for possible obstruction of justice during a phone call with a witness in an ongoing probe, Politico reported late Wednesday.
Citing two sources, Politico said Gaetz took part in a call with an ex-girlfriend and the witness. That witness reportedly later spoke with prosecutors, who are now exploring whether Gaetz suggested that the person lie or mislead investigators, which would be a crime.
Gaetz has not been charged and has denied all allegations.
Gaetz is reportedly under investigation in a federal sex trafficking probe examining whether he and others paid for sex at drug-fueled parties, including with a 17-year-old girl. His former wingman, ex-local tax collector Joel Greenberg, agreed to cooperate with investigators under a recent plea deal in which he pleaded guilty to six federal charges, including sex trafficking of a child.
Greenberg’s attorney, Fritz Scheller, was asked last month if his client would be giving up the goods on any elected officials.
“This is must-see television,” Scheller replied. “You’ll have to wait and see.”

In many states in the Deep South and Mountain West, vaccinations have leveled off both because of limited access and shot hesitancy.
The Red States have a plan that would kill more people of color, a not so subtle extermination.
https://www.nytimes.com/news-event/coronavirus?smid=url-share
WASHINGTON (AP) — The number of Americans seeking unemployment benefits fell last week for a fifth straight week to a new pandemic low, the latest evidence that the U.S. job market is regaining its health as the economy further reopens.
The Labor Department said Thursday that jobless claims dropped to 385,000, down 20,000 from the week before. The number of weekly applications for unemployment aid, which generally reflects the pace of layoffs, has fallen steadily all year, though it remains high by historical standards.
The decline in applications reflects a swift rebound in economic growth and the job market’s steady recovery from the coronavirus recession. More Americans are venturing out to shop, travel, dine out and congregate at entertainment venues. All that renewed spending has led companies to seek new workers.
Employers have added 1.8 million jobs this year — an average of more than 450,000 a month — and the government’s May jobs report on Friday is expected to show that they added an additional 656,000 last month, according to a survey of economists by the data firm FactSet. The economy remains down 8.2 million jobs from its level in February 2020, just before the virus tore through the economy.
But at this paste the economy created by Sleepy Joe Biden will set all time record improvements.

For a mere three weeks, Trump’s blog existed as a pure demonstration of his growing irrelevance. But this morning, CNBC reported that Jason Miller was back with the next exciting update: Trump’s blog has been scrubbed from his site. And it’s not coming back.
As Jessica Sutherland noted on May 22, while Trump’s erratic posts on his “desk” blog were dutifully picked up by the right-wing media, it’s not as if anyone else was hovering around waiting for the off chance that he might speak. That put Trump’s new site way down the list of most visited websites. Like … down below sites seeking to place pets from shelters and well below sites that teach people to properly grill steak (without ketchup).
Trump is increasingly fixated on overturning the 2020 election result, advisors reportedly said.
Telling Trump he lost is like 'p------ into the wind,' one advisor told The Washington Post.
Trump is avidly following the audit in Arizona and has held talks about others, the paper reported.

Former President Donald Trump has become increasingly fixated on overturning the 2020 election result, with one advisor saying that efforts to tell him that he lost are like "p------ into the wind," The Washington Post reported.
Despite a consistent failure to prove election fraud in US courts, Trump is more and more obsessed with efforts to disprove President Joe Biden's victory, and won't listen to dissenting advice, The Post reported.
Nearly all the 2020 election advisors who spoke to the paper said they regarded his fixation on litigating the election as a waste of time, but that he kept returning to the topic nonetheless.
