Arizona's secretary of state called the GOP-commissioned election audit 'prime for cooking the books'

The Arizona official Katie Hobbs is tracking irregularities with Maricopa County's election audit.

One concern is auditors were seen with dark-colored pens, which might be used to alter a ballot.

Hobbs told CNN on Thursday that the GOP-commissioned audit was "prime for cooking the books."

See more stories on Insider's business page.

Arizona's secretary of state, Katie Hobbs, has once again slammed the Republican-led audit of the 2020 election in Maricopa County, suggesting that it is "prime for cooking the books."

Joe Biden won Arizona by a narrow margin, and numerous Republican legal challenges to the result failed or were dismissed outright.

Nonetheless, a review of the results in Maricopa County - which includes Phoenix and is the nation's second-largest voting jurisdiction - was launched thanks to the state's Republican-controlled Senate, which hired a little-known Florida tech company called Cyber Ninjas to carry out the audit.

Cyber Ninjas has never carried out an election audit before, and Hobbs' office has documented irregularities in its operation, including the fact that workers were found with black and blue pens, which can be used to alter ballots.

It was halfbaked!!!

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Thursday vetoed Republican-sponsored legislation that would have exempted high school graduation ceremonies from COVID-19 restrictions on Michigan crowd sizes, calling it "half-baked and punchless."

The veto, which was expected, came two days after her administration’s order was loosened to end outdoor capacity limits and limit indoor gatherings to 50% occupancy.

"This bill is a solution in search of a problem," the Democratic governor wrote to the GOP-led House. "Rather than sending me half-baked and punchless legislation like HB 4728, I encourage the Legislature to join me in eradicating this pandemic and making transformational investments in our economy."

You praised a Democrat!

The Biden Boom has begun.

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development predicts that the United States will see 6.5 percent GDP growth in 2021—a mark that would eclipse most postwar presidents. Harry Truman set the record with 8.6 percent growth in 1950. President Obama only compiled 2.6 percent in 2015, his best year. President Trump’s top year was 3 percent in 2018—and worst was a whopping minus 3.7 percent in 2020.

Axios Reports the greatest economic recovery in history.

The big picture: There's reason for optimism.

The unemployment rate hit a fresh pandemic-era low of 5.8%, with 496,000 fewer people considered unemployed.Wages also jumped: Average hourly earnings rose 2% from this time last year.

Details: Leisure and hospitality led the pickup in hiring, with 292,000 new jobs gained. Two-thirds of those gains happened at food and drinking places, despite widespread complaints of worker shortages.

Pandemic-related unemployment fell sharply. The number of people who said their employer was closed or lost business because of the pandemic fell by a whopping 1.5 million, down to 7.9 million.Construction employment, however, hasn’t followed the housing market upwards. The total number of jobs in construction fell in May by 20,000, though the decline was mostly in nonresidential jobs.

What they're saying: "My main takeaway from this jobs report (as from the last one) is that you can't just flip a switch and turn an economy back on," tweeted the N.Y. Times' Binyamin Appelbaum. "Recovery is messy and it's just going to take more time than anyone would like."

What it means for President Biden: There are still 7.6 million fewer Americans employed than there were pre-pandemic. At this rate, that gap won't close for another 13 months. That's going to help President Biden as he tries to push through his trillion-dollar job-creation bill.

What it means for Wall Street: The Fed wants to see a strong burst of hiring before it changes its monetary policy stance. This report, while good, doesn't satisfy that.

The bottom line: We're back on the path to a labor market recovery. But the path won't be a short one.

52% of Americans have been immunized with both injections.

New Mexico GOP Blames Low Turnout for Election Loss
June 4, 2021 at 10:05 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 98 Comments

The New Mexico Republican Party explained their defeat in this week’s special election: “Low voter turnout was a big factor. Republicans were angry from 2020 — many questioned election integrity — and stayed home.”

Taegan Goddard observes:
"If Donald Trump continues to question election integrity, it could spell total disaster for Republicans in the 2022 midterms."

Trump Seeks to Turn Anthony Fauci Into a Villain
June 4, 2021 at 9:48 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 88 Comments

“President Trump plans to make Anthony Fauci a top target at upcoming rallies, using increased attention to the Wuhan lab-leak theory as a weapon against an official long viewed as more trustworthy [THAN TRUMP EVER WAS!],” Axios reports.

“Trump and conservative media have made Fauci an improbable face of the opposition, trying to give him the cartoon-villain status once accorded to former Sen. Harry Reid, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, or — in Trump’s case — Hillary Clinton.”

Taegan Goddard observes:
It’s so [VERY] interesting how Republicans can’t seem to land a glove on Joe Biden.

(Reuters) - Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said on Thursday that she has moved up the city's timetable for a full reopening from coronavirus restrictions to match the rest of the state of Illinois.

Lightfoot's earlier plan was to allow bars, restaurants, hotels and sports stadiums to open to full capacity on July 4. However, she said on Thursday the city was ready to join the rest of the state in lifting all capacity restrictions on June 11.

"Because you've masked up, socially distanced and got vaccinated, we're now moving to Phase 5 on Friday, June 11 in alignment with the state. This means Chicago is scheduled to fully reopen", she said on Twitter.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker said last month that the state was on track to move to a final full reopening phase on June 11.

Chicago is seeing a rolling seven-day average of 135 new COVID-19 cases a day, which is down 44% from last week and under the 200 cases per day metric that the city's health officials have long said would indicate that the pandemic's spread is more under control,

The Republicans should get rid of Trump, to win back The Presidency.

The Republican Party finds itself in befuddling circumstances as former President Donald Trump prepares to hold political rallies again, beginning this weekend with an appearance in North Carolina.

Trump was one of the only Republican candidates to lose a high-profile competitive race in 2020. GOP candidates won the majority of close races across the country, in the U.S. Senate, in the U.S. House and in state legislatures and gubernatorial races.

Yet the party remains stuck with Trump as its standard bearer for the foreseeable future, due to his intense popularity with a vocal portion of the party. A substantial majority of Republicans also say they believe his claims that the election was stolen from him, according to a recent Yahoo News/YouGov survey, and he leads the rest of the hypothetical GOP field in some early polls for the party’s nomination in 2024.

But none of that means he is the GOP’s best representative against a Democrat. The 2020 election would suggest the opposite.

If Biden or another Democrat wins the White House, he can block the authoritarian party of Trump.

I want a stronger US Economy.
Pre - Pandemic numbers would be nice.
With Pre-pandemic inflation.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The size of the civilian labor force stayed roughly the same and about half a million people transitioned from unemployed to employed. That's a decent number, though not overwhelming. We still have more than 7 million jobs to go before we reach pre-pandemic levels, so we should do better over the next few months.

Average hourly earnings were up in May by about 3% after you account for inflation. That's good!

Historically, the number of jobs increase rapidly during the summer months and the Holidays like the 4th Of July, the tourism will continue to create millions of jobs.

If the employment numbers increase like in regular recoveries, the seven million jobs will be created by Sleepy Joe Biden will be historically outstanding.

rrb said...

The real story -

U.S. employers added fewer than expected jobs last month as extended unemployment benefits encouraged workers to stay home.

Employers added 559,000 jobs in May, the Labor Department said Friday, missing the addition of 650,000 jobs that analysts surveyed by Refinitiv were expecting. April’s reading was revised higher by 12,000 to 278,000.

The unemployment rate, meanwhile, declined 0.3 percentage points to 5.8%, its lowest since the pandemic caused businesses to shut their doors in March 2020.

Despite the gains, the U.S. economy has 7.6 million, or 5%, fewer workers from its February 2020 pre-pandemic level.

"Only a few months ago we had expected to see several months' worth of gains north of one million as the economy reopened, but labor supply is bouncing back much more slowly than demand," said Paul Ashworth, chief U.S. economist at research firm Capital Economics.

Stairmaster Joe's strategery of paying people to sit home and jerk off is working like a fucking charm.

And great job shutting down the Alaska oil pipeline Joey.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

As of this month, the unemployment rate is still 2.3 percentage points higher than it was pre-pandemic.

If the employment numbers increase like in regular recoveries, the seven million jobs created by Sleepy Joe Biden will be historically outstanding.

All we have to do is to restore 2.3% to reach the pre pandemic crisis percentage of jobs.

At this rate, by the first anniversary of the Biden administration we will prevail and again restore sanity.

How Voters Feel About Bipartisanship
June 4, 2021 at 11:00 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 29 Comments

Geoffrey Skelley: “Voters like bipartisanship more in theory than in practice. But that doesn’t mean bipartisan support isn’t still important politically.”

“Voters may prefer more partisan policy results, but their stated desire for bipartisanship means that politicians can still benefit by at least trying to work together.”

“Notably, Morning Consult’s poll found that 75 percent of voters respected politicians more when they made efforts to get bipartisan support, with essentially no difference between how Democrats and Republicans answered.”

(CNN)The big test of America's great reopening will come in a fortnight.

Last year, as Covid-19 tightened its grip, public holidays like Memorial Day at the end of May, Independence Day on July 4, and Labor Day in September became infection spreaders as millions of Americans hit the road and gathered with others despite pleas to stay home and stay apart.

This year, US airports just set holiday weekend pandemic-era records by screening 8.97 million people, as people activated long-delayed plans to travel and rekindle ties with family and friends. "In some ways, this was the first big stress test," says CNN medical analyst Dr. Leana Wen. The difference now is that tens of millions of Americans are fully vaccinated and nearly 51% of the population has had at least one shot.

The US is now down to just over 17,000 average new cases of Covid-19 per day — the most hopeful data since the start of the pandemic. Just a few months ago, in January, that daily average topped 250,000.

There has been a palpable change in cities in recent weeks as people begin to test the immunity granted to them by the miracle of vaccines. Bars and restaurants are filling up — at least those that have enough staff to open. It is an extraordinary story. And it offers hope for many nations where vaccines have yet to become available en masse.

Bars and restaurants will be seeking employees during the summer months. Millions of people won't be getting unemployment benefits, compared to a year ago.

California's economy is growing rapidly, and the inflation rate is declining rapidly, because we had masking regulations on social distancing.

We are on the way to the greatest recovery in a century.

Despite the stonewalling by M*****w Mitch McConnell LMAO.

The aggressive and seemingly universal push for vaccines from government, media and corporate sectors of the Globalist American Empire amounts to one of the largest PR campaigns in our nation’s history.

The particularly aggressive effort to evangelize the vaccine to our nation’s youth, who enjoy a virtually negligible death rate from Covid-19 itself, is as bizarre as it is undeniable. From straight-up cash bribes to free admission to amusement parks to travel perks to a seemingly endless array of celebrity endorsements, the regime pulled out just about all the stops to persuade the young to stick out their arms and take the jab.

The latest and possibly most invasive frontier in this nationwide effort to get our youth Vaxxed? You guessed it, dating apps:

The bizarre and at times farcical clip above is from a May 21, 2021 White House press conference in which White House Covid response adviser Andy Slavitt jointly announces, together with Fauci, Walensky, and Surgeon General Vivek Murphy, a grand partnership between the White House and every major U.S. dating app on the market.

Transcript:

Social distancing and dating were always a bit of a challenging combination. So today, dating sites like Bumble, Tinder, Hinge, Match, OKCupid, BLK, Chispa, Plenty of Fish, and Badu, are announcing a series of features to encourage vaccinations, and help people meet people who have that universal attractive quality: they’ve been vaccinated against COVID-19.

These sites cater to over 50 million people in the U.S., and are some of the world’s biggest non-gaming apps.

Here’s one for you: according to one of the sites, OKCupid, people who display their vaccination status are 14% more likely to get a match.

We have finally found the one thing that makes us all more attractive: a vaccination!

These dating apps will now allow people to display badges which show their vaccine status, filter specifically to see only people who are vaccinated, and offer  premium content I cannot get into, but apparently they include things like boosts and superswipes. [YouTube]
