Are the Biden approvals really fading?

Two 50 percent and a 49 percent polls suggest as much

Like many Presidents not named Trump, Joe Biden enjoyed a honeymoon period with the American pubic. The question appears to be whether or not that honeymoon is fading. There is every reason to believe that it has.

First and foremost, Biden's overall approval was buoyed considerably on the perception that he has handled the Covid crisis well. This really was pretty much entirely circumstantial as he happened to become President shortly after the vaccinations got into full swing, and while Covid cases and deaths were on the decline.

But now we have these various variants, most prevalently the Delta variant, and cases and deaths are for the first time going up. With a public now fully committed to looking to the White House and task force for Covid relief, the finger pointing and excuse making is wearing thin. People instinctively want action and the buck instinctively stops at the President. Until the President take some decisive step or can announce a medical or vaccine breakthrough on the Delta variant, the issue will not go away.

All that being said, the trouble for Biden might just be starting. As pointed out by Byron York:
But perhaps the biggest warning for Biden in the new ABC poll is the public's answer to this simple question: "Thinking about the next 12 months, would you say you feel optimistic or pessimistic about the ways things are going in this country?" In a survey at the end of April, 64% said they felt optimistic, versus 36% who felt pessimistic. Today, just 45% feel optimistic, versus 55% who feel pessimistic. That's a huge drop in just 2 1/2 months. And it indicates a lack of confidence that things will get better under the Biden administration.

The President's popularity for the first few months far exceeded the popularity of his policies and agenda. Now that his popularity is fading, so do the prospects that the moderate Democrats will get behind a radical agenda. Ultimately 2022 looms pretty large and Democrats seem torn between shoving things through the legislature by any means and looking to scale back in hopes of holding on in 2022.

Scott is playing duck and cover up about the coldheartedtruth about Trump.

The House of Representatives is not ducking and covering like a coward.

The panel, which has begun its work amid intense partisan rancor, is expected to hear about the physical and verbal abuse experienced by the officers as they tried to protect the Capitol from rioters engaged in acts of insurrection who arrived as Congress sought to count the 2020 electoral college results and declare Joe Biden president.
Here’s what to know about today’s hearing

Before hearing from witnesses, opening statements are expected from the committee’s chairman, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-Miss.), and Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), one of two Republicans appointed to the panel by Pelosi.

The panel will hear from two members of the Capitol Police department — Officer Harry Dunn and Sgt. Aquilino Gonell — along with two members of Washington’s Metropolitan Police Department: officers Michael Fanone and Daniel Hodges. Police officers who put their lives at risk to protect and defend freedom and the legal transfer of power!

The Washington Post will have live coverage starting at 9 a.m. Eastern time. The hearing is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.

How pro-Trump insurrectionists broke into the U.S. Capitol | How the rioters came dangerously close to Vice President Pence | How one of America’s ugliest days unraveled.

Even Fox News will probably broadcast the hearings.

Scott Johnson will not watch it and instead he will reply on nutcase websites like the legalinsurrectium, because on January 6th he said that it was not an Insurrection!

WASHINGTON — As the number of migrants stopped at the southern border surges to the highest level in two decades, the Biden administration has drafted a 21-point plan to weigh their asylum claims more quickly and deport those who do not qualify, according to a copy of the plan obtained by NBC News.

In the plan, to be released Tuesday, the administration calls for asylum officers to have full authority to rule on asylum claims for migrants crossing the border, allowing asylum seekers to bypass immigration courts, which now have a backlog of more than 1.2 million cases. The White House aims to send asylum cases that do go to court to a dedicated docket to be sure they are given priority, according to the document.

Statement by Donald J. Trump, 45th President of the United States of America

07/26/21

Nancy Pelosi is spending a great deal of time, effort, and money on the formulation of a Fake and highly partisan January 6 Committee to ask, “what happened?”

Will Nancy investigate herself and those on Capitol Hill who didn’t want additional protection, including more police and National Guard, therefore being unprepared despite the large crowd of people that everyone knew was coming?

Will Nancy and her Committee study the massive Voter Fraud that took place during the 2020 Presidential Election, particularly in swing states, that was the reason hundreds of thousands of people came pouring into Washington and, therefore, must be a big factor in the final Committee Report? Now would be a very good time to study the large scale Voter Fraud in our Presidential Election.

Will Nancy release the thousands of hours of tapes so we can see the extent to which ANTIFA and Black Lives Matter played a role, while also revealing “who killed Ashli Babbitt?” A real and thorough investigation of this must be done—and what about all of the violence, murders, riots, and fires that took place in Democrat run cities throughout the United States by ANTIFA and Black Lives Matter, with virtually no consequence for this death and destruction?

Will Nancy look into the vicious partisan investigations of Conservatives and Republicans that are taking place by prosecutors all over the Country? The five-year investigation of me, and all that so many have been through, including the fake Russia Russia Russia charge, and including the local Democrat-controlled New York prosecutors who work around the clock to get President Donald Trump, while murderers, drug dealers, and human traffickers go free!

“On Friday, Ken Bennett, the Senate liaison to the audit, was not allowed into the building at the state fairgrounds where the audit is taking place, a day after he shared data with outside critics from an ongoing ballot count.”

Dots, not feathers.

Problem solved, crisis averted.:

CLEVELAND, OH—Under intense pressure from the Native American community and progressive activists, the Cleveland Indians have finally retired their racist Chief Wahoo logo. They won't be changing their name, though, and instead are replacing the antiquated Indian with another well-known Indian: Apu from The Simpsons.

As part of a deal with Fox, Apu will now appear on all Indians merchandise and be prominently featured in all Cleveland Indians advertising. The Indians say they are finally making things right with the Native American community with this move, and they are hoping the new mascot is as inoffensive as possible.

"We hope this gets us out of hot water with the woke folks," said front office Cultural Sensitivity Manager Fred Bobo. "Sorry, I think it's 'folx' now, isn't it? Whatever won't get us canceled."

"Anyway, we don't see any problems with the new logo, and we think it's going to be a real hit with the Native Americans."

"What? Yeah, I don't care," said one Native American tribal leader when we asked him about the Indians. "They can name their baseball team whatever they want. I'm more of a hockey guy. Big Blackhawks fan."

At publishing time, the Cleveland Indians had frantically begun searching for a new logo after googling "Is Apu racist?"

The most interesting question about 1/6 remains: how embedded was the FBI in the 3 groups they say were behind it, and what did they know about what was being planned.

That, of course, is what corporate journalists are least interested in asking.

there are some others too but they can wait. This should be something that a transparent government would immediately make known

And here's the chief clown kicking off the clown show -

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she barred Representatives Jim Jordan and Jim Banks from the Capitol riot investigating committee because the two Republicans “had made statements and taken actions that I think would impact the integrity of the committee.” Pelosi said Jordan and Banks also “made statements and took actions that just made it ridiculous to put them on such a committee seeking the truth.”

But what about Pelosi’s Democratic choices for the committee? Might some of their statements and actions in the past impact the integrity of the committee? And have some of them said and done things that were so at odds with the facts as to make it ridiculous to put them on a committee seeking the truth?

Start with Pelosi’s pick for chairman, Representative Bennie Thompson. On a long-ago January 6 — in 2005, when Congress met to certify President George W. Bush’s victory in the 2004 presidential election — Thompson challenged the certification of the results from Ohio. At the time, some progressive Democrats were promoting wild theories about alleged tampering with electronic voting machines in the state. The House Democrats who voted against certification for Ohio’s results said they were simply protesting the result, and not trying to overturn the election. But the fact is, they focused their challenge on a single state, which just happened to be the decisive state in the 2004 contest. Had they gotten their way, and had Ohio been put in Democrat John Kerry’s column instead of Bush’s, Kerry would have been elected president.

In June 2008, Thompson voted to move forward articles of impeachment against President Bush.

By 2017, Thompson had become a devotee of theories that the Trump presidential campaign colluded with Russia to win the 2016 presidential election. On January 20, 2017, Thompson boycotted Trump’s inauguration because of his concern “about the role that Russia had in our country’s democratic process,” according to a spokesman. Thompson was also angry that Trump had criticized Representative John Lewis after Lewis called Trump an “illegitimate” president.

In December 2017, and again in January 2018, Thompson voted to move forward articles of impeachment against Trump. While he believed more than ever in the collusion theory, the articles Thompson supported proposed to remove Trump from office for different reasons — for his comments on the Charlottesville riot, for his statements on the NFL, and in particular on quarterback/activist Colin Kaepernick, and for his reported description of Haiti, African nations, and El Salvador as “s—holes.” Thompson later also voted in favor of Russia-based impeachment as well.

Could one argue that Thompson, with his embrace of discredited and unproven conspiracy theories, has made statements and taken actions that would impact the integrity of the Capitol riot investigating committee?

Read Rep. Liz Cheney's opening remarks

Thank you very much, Chairman Thompson. Thank you to all of my colleagues on this committee, and thank you to each of the witnesses appearing before us today. It is because of you -- you held the line, you defended all of us, you defended the Capitol, and you defended the Constitution and our Republic, and every American owes you our undying gratitude. Every American, I hope, will be able to hear your testimony today and will watch the videos. The videos show the unbelievable violence and the inexcusable and intolerable cruelty that you all faced, and people need to know the truth.

I want to begin by reflecting briefly on the investigation that we are launching today. Every one of us here on the dais voted for and would have preferred that these matters be investigated by an independent non-partisan commission, composed of five prominent Americans selected by each party, and modeled on the 9/11 Commission. Although such a commission was opposed by my own leadership in the House, it overwhelmingly passed with the support of 35 Republican members, it was defeated by Republicans in the Senate. And that leaves us where we are today.

We cannot leave the violence of January 6th – and its causes – uninvestigated. The American people deserve the full and open testimony of every person with knowledge of the planning and preparation for January 6th. We must know what happened here at the Capitol. We must also know what happened every minute of that day in the White House – every phone call, every conversation, every meeting leading up to, during, and after the attack. Honorable men and women have an obligation to step forward. If those responsible are not held accountable, and if Congress does not act responsibly, this will remain a cancer on our Constitutional Republic, undermining the peaceful transfer of power at the heart of our democratic system. We will face the threat of more violence in the months to come, and another January 6th every four years.

I have been a conservative Republican since 1984 when I first voted for Ronald Reagan. I have disagreed sharply on policy and politics with almost every Democratic member of this committee. But, in the end, we are one nation under God. The Framers of our Constitution recognized the danger of the vicious factionalism of partisan politics – and they knew that our daily arguments could become so fierce that we might lose track of our most important obligation – to defend the rule of law and the freedom of all Americans. That is why our Framers compelled each of us to swear a solemn oath to preserve and protect the Constitution. When a threat to our constitutional order arises, as it has here, we are obligated to rise above politics. This investigation must be non-partisan.

While we begin today by taking the public testimony of these four heroic men, we must also realize that the task of this committee will require persistence. We must issue and enforce subpoenas promptly. We must get to objective truth. We must overcome the many efforts we are already seeing to cover up and obscure the facts.

On January 6th and in the days thereafter, almost all members of my party recognized the events of that day for what they actually were. One Republican, for example, said: “What is happening at the U.S. Capitol right now is unacceptable and un-American. Those participating in lawlessness and violence must be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.” No Member of Congress should now attempt to defend the indefensible, obstruct this investigation, or whitewash what happened that day. We must act with honor and duty, and in the interest of our nation.

America is great because we preserve our democratic institutions at all costs. Until January 6th, we were proof positive for the world that a nation conceived in liberty could long endure. But now, January 6th threatens our most sacred legacy. The question for every one of us who serves in Congress, for every elected official across this great nation, indeed, for every American is this: Will we adhere to the rule of law? Will we respect the rulings of our courts? Will we preserve the peaceful transition of power? Or will we be so blinded by partisanship that we throw away the miracle of America? Do we hate our political adversaries more than we love our country and revere our Constitution? I pray that that is not the case. I pray that we all remember, our children are watching, as we carry out this solemn and sacred duty entrusted to us. Our children will know who stood for truth, and they will inherit the nation we hand to them – a Republic, if we can keep it.

Thank you, Mr. Chairman. I yield back.

Scott is hiding because he's a coward.

Capitol Police Sgt. Aquilino Gonell, who immigrated to the U.S. from the Dominican Republic, said he was “more afraid” on Jan. 6 than he was during his entire deployment in Iraq. He “didn’t recognize” the rioters on Jan. 6 and was “shocked” to see rioters use the American flag that “they claimed they sought to protect," he said, wiping away tears from his face as he spoke.

What officers were subjected to resembled "a medieval battle, Gonell said. “I could feel myself losing oxygen” and “thinking to myself this is how I’m going to die” as he was crushed by rioters, he added.

Hearing the former president call Jan. 6 a "lovefest," Gonell later told lawmakers, is "upsetting, it's a pathetic excuse for his behavior for something that he himself helped to create, this monstrosity. I'm still recovering from those hugs and kisses that day."

D.C. police officer Michael Fanone, who suffered a mild heart attack and was electrocuted with a taser during the riot, “thought I’d seen it all” during his past work but what he saw on 1/6 was “unlike anything I had ever seen,” describing in stark details his fear that rioters might kill him. His voice briefly climbed to a shout and he slammed a fist on the table before him as he described GOP lawmakers' "disgraceful" attempt to downplay the siege.

"I remain grateful that no member of Congress had to go through the violent assault" he suffered on Jan. 6, Fanone said, describing the heroism of his fellow officers as "the most inspirational moment" of his life.

Fanone said he thought about using his firearm on attackers, "but I knew that if I did, I would be quickly overwhelmed. And that in their minds would provide them with the justification for killing me, so I instead decided to appeal to any humanity they might have."

D.C. police officer Daniel Hodges, who was crushed in a Capitol doorway by rioters he was attempting to repel, told lawmakers that he feared being "lynched" at one point.

“To my perpetual confusion, I saw the thin blue line flag — a symbol of support for law enforcement — more than once being carried by the terrorists as they ignored our commands an continued to assault us," Hodges said.

The final law enforcement witness, Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn, started his testimony by seeking a moment of silence for the late Brian Sicknick, a fellow officer who died after responding to the insurrection. Lawmakers all bowed their heads in response.

Police officer repeatedly calls rioters ‘terrorists’

11:10 a.m.

Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police Officer Daniel Hodges repeatedly referred to the Capitol rioters as “terrorists” while recounting his experience defending the Capitol on Jan. 6.

Hodges, one of hundreds of police officers who defended the Capitol, was seen on video being crushed in a door during the riots.

Hodges repeatedly used the word "terrorists" as he recounted making his way through a crowd with other officers and witnessing rioters climb the scaffolding.

He also described the flags he saw that day, saying it was “clear” the “terrorists” perceived themselves to be Christian, based on the Christian flags that he saw.

But Hodges also said he was “confused” to see rioters carrying the "thin blue line" flag, which is a symbol of support for police.

“To my perpetual confusion, I saw the thin blue line flag, a symbol of support from law enforcement more than once being carried by the terrorists as they ignored our commands and continued to assault us,” he said.

Moment of silence for Sicknick

11:06 a.m.

Officer Harry Dunn called for a “moment of silence” before delivering his testimony to honor a fallen hero who lost his life on Jan. 6 while serving in uniform.

“Before I begin, I’d like to take a moment of my time to ask for a moment of silence for my fallen colleague Officer Brian Sicknick,” said Dunn, a Capitol Police officer.

Dunn noted that Sicknick “died from injuries he sustained in the line of duty defending the Capitol of our beloved democracy.”

He paused for a few seconds before starting to recount events, following other officers whose lives were endangered during the insurrection.

Sicknick died one day after the Capitol attack after having strokes, according to the chief medical examiner in Washington, D.C.

Tased officer: Riot 'unlike anything' I've ever seen

10:39 a.m.

D.C. Metropolitan Police Officer Michael Fanone said the Jan. 6 attack was “unlike anything” he’d ever seen in his law enforcement career.

Fanone, who is a narcotics officer, recounted to lawmakers his experience of having his badge ripped off and being beaten by rioters.

“In this line of work, it probably won’t shock you to know that I’ve dealt with some dicey situations. I thought I’d seen it all many times over,” Fanone said.

“Yet, what I witnessed and experienced on Jan. 6, 2021, was unlike anything I had ever seen, anything I’d ever experienced or could have imagined in my country,” he continued.

Fanone recounted rioters using his own Taser on him, and overhearing another who suggested killing him with his own gun.

“I was grabbed, tased, [and] beaten — all while being called a traitor to my country,” Fanone said.

“I was at risk of being stripped of and killed with my own firearm, as I heard chants of ‘kill him with his own gun.’ I can still hear those words in my head today,” he said.

Fanone then slammed House Republicans for downplaying the events of Jan. 6, calling their behavior “disgraceful.”

Black officer recounts facing 'torrents of racial epithets'

11:39 a.m.

Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn, who is Black, recounted in his opening statement before the committee how a group of Trump supporters who stormed the Capitol yelled racial epithets at him after he told them to leave the building.

Dunn said that during the riot, he observed people wearing "Make America Great Again" hats and "Trump 2020" shirts, and told them to leave.

"No man, this is our house. President Trump invited us here. We're here to stop the steal. Joe Biden is not the president. Nobody voted for Joe Biden," they told him.

Dunn noted that as a law enforcement officer, "I do my best to keep politics out of my job."

"But in this circumstance, I responded, 'Well, I voted for Joe Biden. Does my vote not count? Am I nobody?' "

Dunn sighed. "That prompted a torrent of racial epithets," he said.

He said a woman in a pink MAGA shirt yelled, "You hear that guys, this n----- voted for Joe Biden." Then the crowd of what he estimated was around 20 people joined in, screaming "boo f---ing n-----."

"No one had ever, ever called me a n----- while wearing the uniform of a Capitol Police officer," Dunn said.

Later that day after the rioters were cleared, Dunn said, he sat down on a bench in the Capitol Rotunda with a friend who is also a Black Capitol Police officer.

"I told him about the racial slurs I endured and became very emotional and began yelling, 'How the blank could something like this happen? Is this America?' " Dunn said. "I began sobbing. Officers came over to console me."

The Gateway insanity

Goofy RINO Rep. Adam Kinzinger started crying like a baby during the “January 6 Select Committee” hearing.

The Never-Trump “Republican” is one of only two members of the GOP that Speaker Nancy Pelosi allowed on the committee — the other being Liz Cheney.

Advertisement - story continues below

During his opening statement, Kinzinger blasted his own party for treating the mostly peaceful protest as a “partisan fight.”

“Like all Americans, I am frustrated that six months after a deadly riot breached the United States Capitol for several hours on live television … we still don’t know exactly what happened. Why? Because many in my party have treated this as just another partisan fight. It’s toxic, and it’s a disservice to the officers and their families, to the staff and employees on the Capitol Complex, and to the American people who deserve the truth,” Kinzinger blubbered on during his opening statement.

He is a very conservative Republican.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Now, a little more than six months later, the vast majority of elected Republicans don’t want to acknowledge that Trump had any responsibility for the attack because they fear losing an election to a Trump-aligned candidate.

But very few people will change their minds, because Trump is very good at gaslighting his supporters.

He feeds his base subtle racist views.

Even very conservative Republicans are calling RINO or fucking assholes.

Loyalty is built into many people.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Trump also remains a big problem for Republicans. The former president said this as part of a statement he issued on Monday night: “Will Nancy investigate herself and those on Capitol Hill who didn’t want additional protection, including more police and National Guard, therefore being unprepared despite the large crowd of people that everyone knew was coming?” This has become a new talking point, that Pelosi herself is responsible for the insurrection.

The remaining three paragraphs of the rambling commentary includes the false assertion that Antifa or BLM were behind an attack that Trump just said “everyone knew was coming.” Yet as with a lot of Trump invective, logical consistency isn’t the point. It’s throwing something out there to try to confuse the situation that matters most.

Another concern for McCarthy and House Republicans in boycotting the hearings is that Trump likes having defenders on TV. For Trump, it’s the key to everything. Dominate the TV message and you win the political fight.

Instead, House Republican leadership has decided to allow Democrats and Reps. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) and Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) to put on an infomercial showcasing the horror of Jan. 6, drawing Trump and his inner circle in. Cheney will get to deliver an opening statement. Oh, and by the way, Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) and Louie Gohmert (R-Texas), will hold a news conference outside the Justice Department on Tuesday to complain about the treatment of alleged rioters arrested for their role in the Jan. 6 attack. Talk about mixed -- or non-existent -- messaging.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Politico summarizes the first day of the investigation...

The House select committee on Jan. 6 held its first hearing this morning, and all we have to say is, damn.

The compelling testimony from four police officers who put their lives on the line during the attack — grown men in uniform choking up on the witness stand while talking about protecting lawmakers, being physically assaulted by supporters of DONALD TRUMP, thinking they would die, then having the horrors of the day downplayed by some prominent Republicans — will hit home for anyone who watched.

For those of you who missed it, here are some key moments:

— Sgt. AQUILINO GONELL likened the violence to a “medieval battle” and said he could feel himself losing oxygen during the assault. He remembered thinking, “This is how I am going to die.” He paused to wipe tears away while talking about returning home at 4 a.m. the night after, and his wife attempting to hug him — he firmly turned her away because of all the chemical irritants on his body. He didn’t want her sick, too.

— Officer MICHAEL FANONE recounted getting dragged from the front line into the mob, where he was beaten and repeatedly electrocuted by a taser while rioters tried to disarm him and someone suggested they “kill him with his own gun.” He said he still hears those voices in his head. Fanone, a father of four, said he believes he survived only because he appealed to the rioters’ humanity by yelling, “I’ve got kids!”

— Officer DANIEL HODGES talked about being called a “traitor” by Trump supporters, and as he encountered violence, a rioter telling him, “You will die on your knees” and kicking him in the chest. He also recounted getting crushed in the door in that now-infamous video, and explained his mindset in not opening fire while being assaulted by rioters: After learning that bombs were found nearby, he feared that there were explosives in the Capitol. “I was wondering: How many bombs are there? Is there a cellphone? If we fire, is that the signal” to trigger the bombs?

— Officer HARRY DUNN asked for a moment of silence to remember Officer BRIAN SICKNICK, who was pepper-sprayed during the attack and died a few hours later following two strokes. Dunn, who is Black, gave a searing depiction of the racist abuse he endured that day. “No one had ever called me a ‘n-----’ while wearing the uniform of a Capitol Police officer,” he said.

— “We are not asking for medals and recognition, we just want justice and accountability,” said Gonell.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

— “What makes the struggle harder and more painful is to know so many of my fellow citizens — including so many of the people I put my life at risk to defend — are downplaying or outright denying what happened,” said Fanone, who suffered a traumatic brain injury that day.

— Fanone said the members who have downplayed the attack “betrayed their oath of office.” “The indifference shown to my colleagues is disgraceful!” he shouted, pounding the table with his fists. Nicholas Wu has the recap: “‘This is how I’m going to die’: Officers describe horrors of Jan. 6 riot”

— Chair BENNIE THOMPSON (D-Miss.): “While our institutions endured, and while JOE BIDEN is the legitimately elected president of the United States, a peaceful transfer of power didn’t happen this year. It did not happen. Let that sink in. Think about it. A violent mob was pointed toward the Capitol and told to win a trial by combat.” Thompson’s full opening statement

— Rep. LIZ CHENEY (R-Wyo.): “The question for every one of us who serves in Congress, for every elected official across this great nation, indeed for every American, is this: Will we adhere to the rule of law?” Cheney’s opening statement

— Rep. ADAM KINZINGER choked back tears while telling the four officers, “You guys won.” “Democracy is not defined by bad days. We’re defined by how we come back from bad days,” Kinzinger said. “This cannot continue to be a partisan fight.” From Maeve Sheehey: “Cheney and Kinzinger call out GOP leadership at first Capitol riot hearing”

— NBC’s Leigh Ann Caldwell (@LACaldwellDC): “During the opening video, Sgt. Gonell has wiped his eyes at least three times with a Kleenex. When the video of Ofcr Hodges jammed in the door, Hodges shifts slightly in his chair but doesn’t look away. At one pt, Fanone gets up and whispers to Gonell and squeezes his shoulder.”

New Window

NEW FROM DOJ: “Trump officials can testify in Jan. 6 inquiries, Justice Dept. says,” by NYT’s Katie Benner: “The Justice Department notified former Trump administration officials … Witnesses can give ‘unrestricted testimony’ to the House Oversight and Reform Committee and the Senate Judiciary Committee, the department said in a letter this week. …

“The decision runs counter to the views of former President Donald J. Trump, who has argued that his decisions and deliberations are protected by executive privilege. It also sets up a potential court battle if Mr. Trump sues in a bid to block any testimony. In that case, the courts could be forced to decide the extent to which a former president can be protected by privilege.”

— Asked before the hearing whether he still holds Trump responsible for Jan. 6, House Minority Leader KEVIN MCCARTHY pivoted and instead blamed Speaker NANCY PELOSI for security failures that day. Here’s an AP fact-check of that claim.

Good Tuesday afternoon.

Scott, he destroyed your arguments about black lives matter movement...

Yet Kinzinger also made a plea to his Republican colleagues and assholes like you to set aside their fealty to Trump, which he has argued is motivated by fear. In your case is a lack of empathy, even for police officers Scott.

“This cannot continue to be a partisan fight. I’m a Republican, I’m a conservative, but in order to heal from the damage caused that day we need to call out the facts. It’s time to stop the outrage and the conspiracies that fueled the violence and division in this country, and, most importantly, we need to reject those that promote it.”

Calling out the criticisms by Republicans like Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene that the House should instead be investigating the violent Black Lives Matter protests following the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police, Kinzinger did not hide his disdain for that comparison.

“Some have concocted a counternarrative to discredit this process on the grounds that we didn’t launch a similar investigation into the urban riots and looting last summer,”
