Support for Jan. 6 Capitol riot probe slips after cops’ emotional testimony: poll
An emotional hearing this week in which police officers attacked in the Capitol riot testified before a House select committee investigating the events of Jan. 6 turned more Americans against the need for the probe, according to a Morning Consult poll.
Among voters of all parties, 53 percent supported the investigation, down from 66 percent in the survey in June and 58 percent just a week ago. Four out of five Democrats were in favor, while only a quarter of Republicans were, along with half of independents.
Only 49 percent of those polled said they had watched all or even part of the committee hearing that dominated the news cycle on Tuesday.
Meanwhile less than half of Americans are paying any attention at all.
According to the July 28-29 survey, less than half of voters (49 percent) said they tuned in to at least some of the hearing live, with 1 in 10 saying they watched it in full. Three in 5 Democrats said they caught at least part of the 3.5-hour session live, while 39 percent of Republicans said the same.
Oh, and less people now blame Trump as well.
The survey found that 56 percent of voters said the 45th president is at least somewhat responsible for the mob of his supporters who stormed the Capitol, down 5 points since a survey conducted last month. Those trends indicate that unless the panel, which is armed with subpoena power, is able to unearth some new information about Trump’s conduct as it relates to Jan. 6, perceptions of his culpability for the riot have likely already hit their high-water mark.
This is what is called "backfiring". The Democrats truly felt that putting up a partisan liberal, Trump hating, anti-White racist black cop to demand that he had been called names was somehow going to help. But obviously it didn't. They thought it would make people more anti-Trump and more anti-GOP. But less people now blame Trump and the GOP while more people blame Biden and the Democrats for the Capital riots.
Imagine. 34% of Americans now actually put some blame on Pelosi and Democrats for the riots, while 29% now think Joe Biden is at least partially responsible. Not sure this is what they had in mind when they set this whole thing up. But it serves them right. Karma!

They now insist - despite extensive evidence to the contrary - that the mob that invaded the Capitol did not breach the House floor. Some have also attempted to deny reality and turn the violent insurrectionists into victims and martyrs.
At the time some Republicans were making outrageously inaccurate statements, more than 440 people already had been charged with serious crimes for participating in the attack. The number charged now exceeds 500. Many of them have ties to right-wing extremist groups. We should also recall that five people died in events related to the attack.
This denialism has gained traction with Trump's Republican base. In a poll taken last month, 47 percent of Republican voters said that "legitimate protest" was an "appropriate term for the U.S. Capitol incident on Jan. 6," while "39 percent of independents and just 13 percent of Democrats" said the same.
A CBS poll taken this month found that 55 percent of Trump voters believe that the insurrectionists were simply defending freedom; 51 percent call them "patriots."
These views - and what Congressional Republicans are now saying about Jan. 6 - show that too many Republicans are capable, as Alice remarked about Wonderland, of believing "as many as six impossible things before breakfast."
That's why there is nothing the House Select Committee will be able to do, or to find, that will persuade most Republicans that they should believe what we all saw on Jan. 6.
Democrats need to understand this, ignore diversionary tactics, and get on with the serious and important business of making a record on which history can judge what transpired. They should keep their eyes firmly fixed on doing all that is necessary to aid what former Supreme Court Justice Robert Jackson once called "the moral judgments of history."

As I have stated multiple times - I don't know one way or the other if Dunn was a victim of "racial slurs". He might be telling the truth, he might be lying.
Most skeptics are pointing to the fact that there was supposedly hours of body cam and other video evidence of that day... and nobody from this particular committee is wanting to show them..
But at the end of the day his testimony is 100% completely irrelevant to what this committee was supposed to be investigating. It was pure 100% political theatre. But based on his twitter feed and watching his testimony after the fact. I find him a person with very little credibility.

While in office Donald Trump pledged to give away all of his $400,000 annual presidential salary. For the first three and a half of his presidency, he donated the money to federal agencies.
The Washington Post said it surveyed all major federal agencies and none reported receiving anything from Trump after a gift in July 2020.
The paper said it could not account for the the last $220,000 of his salary.
During the campaign trail in 2015 Donald Trump said that he would not accept a presidential salary if elected. The Constitution does not allow a president to forgo a salary, so Trump chose to donate his earnings to federal agencies instead.
While in office he donated $100,000 quarterly payments to federal departments such as the Department of Veterans and the Department of Health and Human Services.
His last known gift was to the National Park Service on July 23, 2020, according to government documents.
Washington Post reporter David Fahrenthold said that Trump had become increasingly bitter about not getting praise for donating his salary.
President Trump donated at least $1.4 million of the $1.6 million he earned as president to various federal agencies.
