At a certain point in time this has become personal for a lot of people. While I have had a couple of people close to me have Covid kick them in the butt, until yesterday I had not personally known anyone who had died. Unfortunately the mother of my nephew (my ex-sister in law) passed away in her forties after contracting Covid. In her case she had been on Covid protocol but had only mild symptoms. On the her last day of isolation, she passed away suddenly. My brother had talked with her the day before and she was fine. The suspicion is heart attack (as she had a heart condition and had already made a will thinking her days were numbered). But I am sure it will be noted as a Covid casualty. She was from northern California and in a recent hot spot for the virus. She worked in the California healthcare industry as a healthcare aide, making it very likely she had been vaccinated.
Like it or not the issue of Covid still remains. Biden's sure fire foolproof plan to stop it in its tracks never materialized, much less worked. Moreover, these recent numbers are simply not adding up. Even as more and more people become vaccinated (which should lead to less and less cases, hospitalizations, and deaths) the numbers continue to stay steady if not climb. Yesterday we had nearly 150K new cases and over 1100 dead. Only six of those deaths can be blamed on Florida, much to the dismay of liberals who seem more interested in deflecting blame than stopping Covid.
At a certain point in time it becomes logically impossible to simply blame the unvaccinated, especially when we are hearing more and more and more about breakthrough cases. But perhaps the most troubling aspect of this is the degree in which our leadership is downplaying the idea that the vaccinated are getting sick or dying.
The sad part about all of this is that there are other countries in the world that are providing different treatments that seem successful.Unfortunately Fauci and others have rejected these treatments out of hand. It's almost as if they would rather see more people die, than admit that they were wrong (and others right) about certain things surrounding Covid. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Perhaps it would be less insane if we did both the same things and also tried expanding our horizons?
The sanctimonious messaging from Fauci and many of our health professionals have started to become almost cruel. I heard a doctor suggest that he simply doesn't feel sorry for Covid victims anymore, assuming that all of them are just irresponsible people who have not gotten vaccinated. Perhaps as a doctor you should be looking at providing treatments that are working elsewhere, rather than acting high and mighty. Pretty sure providing treatments is part of your job. Pretty sure making public statements is not.
Will the vaccination eventually take us to some sort of herd immunity? Perhaps. More likely is that it will take a combination of the vaccine and more Americans developing the natural antibodies by catching Covid to bring us there. It might be nice if we actually spent a tiny bit of time looking for a treatment as well. But the whole "treatment thing" was a "bad orange man" plot and the powers to be will have none of that.
But I promise you one thing. The silver bullet here is not going to be more Biden speeches and more condescending preaching from those who act all high and mighty.

More people in Florida are catching the coronavirus, being hospitalized and dying of Covid-19 now than at any previous point in the pandemic, underscoring the perils of limiting public health measures as the Delta variant rips through the state.
This week, 227 virus deaths were being reported each day in Florida, on average, as of Tuesday, a record for the state and by far the most in the United States right now. The average for new known cases reached 23,314 a day on the weekend, 30 percent higher than the state’s previous peak in January, according to a New York Times database. Across the country, new deaths have climbed to more than 1,000 a day, on average.
And hospitalizations in Florida have almost tripled in the past month, according to federal data, stretching many hospitals to the breaking point. The surge prompted the mayor of Orlando to ask residents to conserve water in order to limit the strain on the city’s supply of liquid oxygen, which is needed both to purify drinking water and to treat Covid-19 patients.
Even as cases continue to surge, with more than 17,200 people hospitalized with the virus across Florida, Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, has held firm on banning vaccine and mask mandates. Several school districts have gone ahead with mask mandates anyway.
Overall, 52 percent of Floridians are fully vaccinated, but the figure is less than 30 percent in some of the state’s hardest-hit counties.
On Monday, dozens of doctors and hospital employees in Palm Beach County gathered for an early morning news conference to beseech the unvaccinated to get shots, emphasizing that the surge was overwhelming the health care system and destroying lives.
“We are exhausted,” said Dr. Rupesh Dharia, an internal medicine specialist. “Our patience and resources are running low.”
A growing proportion of the people inundating hospitals and dying in Florida now are coming from younger segments of the population, particularly those ages 40 to 59, which were less vulnerable in earlier waves of the pandemic. The absentee ballot rules are among the strictest in the nation. The voter must request an absentee ballot, fill there ballot out, and sign their ballot and add their their Florida License or State issue ID number then either bring the ballot in person to the local election office or send it through the US mail. Exception are allowed for the old and informed.
No ballot harvesting is allowed. No party can send out preprinted absentee ballot applications. If the voter is unable to fill the ballot him/herself, then only a close relative or license care giver can assist them.
As far as ease of voting? There are few states easier to vote in than Florida. Early voting days are as many as practical (Has to be with 30 days of the election). Numerous early voting sites. Fauci explained that the treatments could lessen infection symptoms and prevent hospitalization.
Fauci is not the first person to recommend the antibodies, as DeSantis endorsed the same treatments in early August. An investigation from the Associated Press questioned the financial ties between DeSantis's top donor and the company producing the antibodies, casting doubt on the governor's motivations for promoting the treatments.
DeSantis sent a letter to the Associated Press after the report was published, criticizing the outlet for implying that his support for the treatment was politically driven.
"You succeeded in publishing a misleading, clickbait headline about one of your political opponents, but at the expense of deterring individuals infected with COVID from seeking life-saving treatment, which will cost lives," the governor's letter said. "Was it worth it?"

The Pentagon has confirmed that multiple U.S. troops and “a number of Afghan civilians” were killed in an attack outside the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul on Thursday, Axios reports.
Additional U.S. troops are being treated for injuries.
Washington Post: “The deaths marked the first U.S. military fatalities in Afghanistan since February 2020, when two American soldiers were killed in an insider attack by an Afghan soldier. The Trump administration signed a deal with the Taliban a few weeks later that included a promise that the militant group would not target U.S. troops.”
