Are the Democrat's dreams of multi-trillion dollar spending going up in smoke?
Kyrsten Sinema still opposes her party's plans for a $3.5 trillion, party-line spending bill. And she’s not up for a negotiation about it.
As House Democratic leaders hold back Sinema’s own Senate-passed bipartisan infrastructure bill in order to push the Arizona Democrat and Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) to support a multitrillion-dollar spending bill, Sinema is making it crystal clear that her mind can’t be changed. And that applies even as her own legislation becomes a bargaining chip in House Democrats’ internal discussions.
Well if this doesn't throw a wrench into things, I am not sure what does? Without Sinema's vote on the 3.5 trillion "reconciliation" bill, there is no "reconciliation" bill to be had. According to Pelosi and the liberals in the House, there is no bipartisan infrastructure bill without the 3.5 trillion "reconciliation" bill. So what will the happy Democratic gang end up doing here?
The sad thing here is that we have already sort of "priced in" the idea that 3.5 trillion is a realistic number to be looking at, considering before Covid we had never ever spent more than 800-900 billion on any sort of stimulus or spending plan. While Republicans and now Sinema (and possibly Manchin) are not on board with spending 3.5 trillion, the very reasonable concept that 3.5 trillion is not actually reasonable (and by several trillion) has been lost in translation.
The reality is that nobody in their right mind should believe that our Government can afford to spent 1.9 trillion in 2020, then another 1.2 trillion in 2021, only to add an additional 3.5 trillion on top of that. To put that in perspective, imagine your own yearly salary. Then imaging a spending spree where you plan to add twice your yearly salary to your unsecured debt (credit cards, lines of credit, etc) from a one time spending spree. How well would you manage if you ran up that sort of unsecured debt in a short time period?
Either way... the Democrats are learning that owning all three chambers of congress is fine and dandy, but getting stuff done has been a lot like herding cats! Especially considering the lack of leadership at the top.

Bye about November 3rd or so both bills will have passed.

NBC news on topic is a little different than you have with SLDS SLDS.
WASHINGTON — House Democrats regrouped Tuesday after delaying a vote to advance President Joe Biden's infrastructure bill and multitrillion-dollar social safety net expansion, as Speaker Nancy Pelosi struggled to tame a rebellion from centrist lawmakers.
At a caucus meeting Tuesday, Pelosi told Democrats she was optimistic a deal was close as she eyed an afternoon vote that would include concessions to appease the moderates.
"I’m sorry that we couldn’t land the plane last night, and that you all had to wait. But that’s just part of the legislative progress," she said, according to a Democratic aide. "I think we’re close to landing the plane."
The stakes are high for Biden's top two legislative priorities.
The president and his staff have called a variety of House members, including centrist holdouts, to advocate for Pelosi's plan and stressed that both the infrastructure and budget bills are critical to his agenda, a White House official said.
The House Rules Committee met again Tuesday morning with the aim of setting up votes on the budget resolution that will allow them to begin work on the $3.5 trillion package, as well as tee up votes on the Senate-passed infrastructure bill and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
The procedural vote to kick off the process was initially expected Monday night, but Pelosi faced defections from a group of nine moderates who threatened to vote it down. The lawmakers are insisting that the $550 billion infrastructure bill get an immediate vote and be signed into law before they start crafting the larger bill.
McConnell says he'd leave Covid mandates up to employers, school boards
Democratic leaders plan to promise that the House will vote on infrastructure bill by Sept. 27, said a leadership aide, who added that this meets the request made by moderates of a date certain.
Democratic leaders expect to vote on the procedural rule Tuesday afternoon after it was approved in committee.
"These negotiations are never easy," House Rules Committee Chair Jim McGovern said. "I think it was Hillary Clinton who says it takes a village. I say it takes a therapist. But the therapy session is over."
Pelosi has said for months that the two bills must move side by side. Dozens of progressives say they won't support the infrastructure bill without the bigger spending bill, while moderates are most interested in passing the infrastructure package into law.
At the heart of the standoff is a bid for leverage over the multitrillion-dollar bill. Progressives want to pass a sweeping expansion of the safety net, paid for with tax hikes on corporations and the wealthy. Centrist Democrats are leery of the $3.5 trillion price tag and more skeptical of some taxes.

The $3.5 trillion is troubling to many people who support the idea,.

House Democrats Near Deal on Budget Resolution
August 24, 2021 at 10:41 am EDT By Taegan Goddard
Politico:
“Democratic leaders are finalizing a deal that would clear the way for passage of the $3.5 trillion budget framework and set a House vote on the bipartisan infrastructure deal for Sept. 27, an offer they hope ends a weeks-long standoff with moderates.
“After several hours of furious negotiating Monday night, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her team are finishing the compromise, which they hope to put on the floor as soon as Tuesday afternoon.
Said Pelosi, in a private caucus meeting: “I’m sorry that we couldn’t land the plane last night, and that you all had to wait. But that’s just part of the legislative progress. I think we’re close to landing the plane.’
Well that is all wonderful liberal news Roger and Reverend...
But it doesn't matter one bit if Pelosi and the House votes for the 3.5 trillion reconciliation bill if Sinema is not voting for it in the Senate. It doesn't pass in the Senate without her vote.
Biden cannot sign a bill into law that doesn't pass both chambers.
I find it interesting that neither the NBC or Politico article mentions Sinema? She was a hard no as of yesterday. Do they know something that others don't?
Biden Surrenders.
NO Tally-Bon August 31st deadline extension.

Could be.
Yesterday was Yesterday,
Today is Today.
I was thinking about history about because I was a history geek.
Nero watched Rome Burned Down.
The big news from the White House Saturday morning was that President Biden had canceled his planned trip to Delaware for the weekend.
My first reaction was a hopeful one — maybe he’s finally seen the light and realizes the Kabul situation is deteriorating at a terrifying pace.
Maybe he’s staying in the White House to help craft a plan to speed up the sluggish evacuation and push back against the Taliban chokehold on roads leading to the airport.
No, no and no.
In fact, there was no indication Biden was actually doing anything to change course in Afghanistan, or even considering modest changes to his failed policies. He just wasn’t leaving the building, probably because pollsters told him his approval ratings already are taking a hit and leaving town again during the crisis would look bad.
In that case, he might as well go to Delaware or even Disney World. If he’s not going to be an actual president now, when would he be?
Legend has it that Nero fiddled while Rome burned, but Biden isn’t that cruel.
He is, however, maddeningly arrogant and stubborn and, by putting his presidency on automatic pilot, created a calamity that jeopardizes the lives of thousands of Americans and many deserving Afghans while also humiliating the United States in the eyes of the world.

What a fucking LIE. Biden had no say in this. The ragheads he armed have him by the fucking shorthairs and there's nothing he can do.
Just because a couple of you morons said that I didn't know shit about poor construction issues. I found this on The Wall Street Journal.
SURFSIDE, Fla.—A startling discovery awaited an engineer who drilled into the ground-level concrete slab at Champlain Towers South last year. He could find no waterproofing in two separate sections, the engineer wrote in a letter to the condominium board.
Without that essential layer for a high rise facing the punishing Atlantic Ocean, rainwater and salty sea spray likely had seeped in for decades, slowly weakening the steel rebar and concrete holding up the condo building. Indeed, the engineer reported at the time seeing significant concrete deterioration.
Less than a year later, in the early hours of June 24, part of that slab dropped into the parking garage below. Within minutes, the east wing of the 13-story tower collapsed, killing 98 people in a disaster without modern precedent in the U.S.
Since then, a picture has emerged of a tower that was hobbled from the start. The people who oversaw its planning and construction some 40 years ago made cost-saving choices that generally met the building codes of that era but may have created long-term safety risks, a Wall Street Journal investigation found.
They skipped waterproofing in areas where saltwater could seep into concrete, the available evidence indicates. They put the building’s structural slabs on thin columns without the support of beams in some places. They installed too few of the special heavy walls that help keep buildings from toppling, engineers say, features that could have limited the extent of the collapse. And they appeared to have put too little concrete over rebar in some places and not enough rebar in others, design plans and photos of the rubble indicate.
Officials are still investigating why the tower fell. Engineers consulted by the Journal, including some involved in the official probes, say it’s unlikely one design or construction issue identified so far could have brought down the building by itself, but rather that the cumulative effects of the decisions ultimately doomed the structure.
LMAO

Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts has died at the age of 80, his publicist has said.
"It is with immense sadness that we announce the death of our beloved Charlie Watts," a statement said.
"He passed away peacefully in a London hospital earlier today surrounded by his family."
It said he was "a cherished husband, father and grandfather" and "one of the greatest drummers of his generation".
Obituary: Charlie Watts
The statement added: "We kindly request that the privacy of his family, band members and close friends is respected at this difficult time."
The news comes weeks after it was announced that Watts would miss the band's US tour dates to recover from an unspecified medical procedure. Watts was previously treated for throat cancer in 2004.
He had been a member of the Stones since January 1963, when he joined Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Brian Jones in their fledgling group.

House Democrats forged ahead with President Joe Biden’s economic plans Tuesday after they broke a stalemate that threatened to unravel the party’s sprawling agenda.
The chamber approved a measure that passed a $3.5 trillion budget resolution and advanced a $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill. The vote allows Democrats to write and approve a massive spending package without Republicans and puts the Senate-passed infrastructure plan on a path to a final House vote.
The measure includes a nonbinding commitment to vote on the infrastructure bill by Sept. 27, which aims to appease nine centrist Democrats who pushed the House to consider the bipartisan plan before it took up the Democratic budget resolution. The vote also advances a sweeping voting rights bill, which Democrats aim to pass as soon as Tuesday.

House Democrats forged ahead with President Joe Biden’s economic plans Tuesday after they broke a stalemate that threatened to unravel the party’s sprawling agenda.
I don't think the fact that there was a public stalemate among Democrats is not exactly news to them. And if the Democrat moderates cave they will lose the seat. Perhaps for the next decade.
Scott said that it would not pass because a Democrat we didn't name her would vote against it.
WASHINGTON — House Democrats voted Tuesday to move forward with President Joe Biden's top legislative priorities after resolving a standoff between their leaders and centrist rebels, who threatened to block the multitrillion-dollar safety net expansion.
The House voted 220 to 212 on a key procedural motion to instruct committees to write the $3.5 trillion bill, which can pass both Congressional chambers without any Republican support. To placate the centrist Democratic holdouts, Speaker Nancy Pelosi committed to a Sept. 27 deadline to vote on the $550 billion Senate-passed infrastructure bill.
Every Democrat voted for the measure, and all Republicans opposed it.
Although the procedural vote was a win for Biden, the last-minute clash provided a glimpse into the challenges that await Democrats as they aim to write a sprawling spending bill and pass it with wafer-thin majorities in both chambers. They have three votes to spare in the House and none in the Senate.
Mark my words, they will pass.
By BRIAN SLODYSKO12 minutes ago
WASHINGTON (AP) — House Democrats passed legislation Tuesday that would strengthen a landmark civil rights-era voting law weakened by the Supreme Court over the past decade, a step party leaders tout as progress in their quest to fight back against voting restrictions advanced in Republican-led states.
The bill, which is part of a broader Democratic effort to enact a sweeping overhaul of elections, was approved on a 219-212 vote, with no Republican support. Its passage was praised by President Joe Biden, who said it would protect a “sacred right” and called on the Senate to “send this important bill to my desk.”
But the measure faces dim prospects in that chamber, where Democrats do not have enough votes to overcome opposition from Senate Republicans, who have rejected the bill as “unnecessary” and a Democratic “power grab.”
That bottleneck puts Democrats right back where they started with a slim chance of enacting any voting legislation before the 2022 midterm elections, when some in the party fear new GOP laws will make it harder for many Americans to vote.
But they still intend to try.
Speaking from the House floor, Speaker Nancy Pelosi said it was imperative for Congress to counteract the Republican efforts, which she characterized as “dangerous” and “anti-democratic.”
“Democracy is under attack from what is the worst voter suppression campaign in America since Jim Crow,” Pelosi said.
The John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, named for the late Georgia congressman who made the issue a defining one of his career, would restore voting rights protections that have been dismantled by the Supreme Court. Under the proposal, the Justice Department would again police new changes to voting laws in states that have racked up a series of “violations,” drawing them into a mandatory review process known as “preclearance.”
The practice was first put in place under the Voting Rights Act of 1965. But it was struck down by a conservative majority on the Supreme Court in 2013, which ruled the formula for determining which states needed their laws reviewed was outdated and unfairly punitive. The court did, however, say that Congress could come up with a new formula, which is what the bill does.
A second ruling from the court in July made it more difficult to challenge voting restrictions in court under another section of the law.
The bill’s sponsor, Rep. Terri Sewell, said “old battles have indeed become new again,” enabled by the Supreme Court’s rulings.
Kputz hated Lewis because he is not white enough.
