Sorry Denny....

But this was a nice gesture to the troops and their families from a President who wasn't responsible for these deaths.

Only one President is responsible for these deaths. That is Joe "Soldier killer" Biden!

I am guessing that if someone you knew was killed in Afghanistan today, your partisanship about who to blame and who you would have rather seen at the helm would have been different.

These soldiers would not have died if Trump was still President.

FUCK YOU LIL SCHITTY !!!!!! HE'S A BIGGER HORSES ASS THAN YOU KISSING IT!!!!!! BWAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! Sad you are still making excuses for the shittiest leader evah!!!!!!! Sorry sport, like all covid deaths to date, he is responsible!!!!! What I found most distressing on your last thread your commentary on the death of someone you knew.....politicizing it that because she may have had an underlying condition, the death doesn't count as covid.......Idiot!!!! Would she be alive today if she did not contact the virus??????/ Sad you think otherwise!!!!

American Purpose After the Fall of Kabul

Soldiers were told that we were champions of the rights of mankind.

By Phil Klay

August 25, 2021

9/11 unified America. And nothing that we have done as a nation since has been so catastrophically destructive as what we did in its wake.Photograph by Wakil Kohsar / AFP / Getty

There’s a story that marines tell—I’ve heard it more than once, in slightly different forms, and it goes something like this. Years into the war in Afghanistan, a squad of marines heads into a remote village in the mountains. When they arrive, at first the villagers mistake them for Russians. When they explain, “No, we’re American,” the villagers ask, “Why are you here?” One marine I met claimed to have initially been stumped by the question. It was 2010, he recalled. Why were we there? He said that he ultimately responded to the villager, that some bad people who lived here flew planes into buildings and the buildings fell down. At which point, the villagers looked at one another in utter confusion. No one who lived there, they were certain, had ever been inside a plane, let alone flown one.

The story is told with a grin, like it’s a joke. That’s how you know it’s deadly serious. Look at this ridiculous war, the marine is telling you, and look at me, with my American flag on my shoulder, trying to make sense of it. It suggests the element of the American psyche that Ralph Ellison called “an ironic awareness of the joke that always lies between appearance and reality.”

Since the fall of Kabul, though, the gap between appearance and reality has shrunk, bringing many long-running jokes to an end. The joke of generals boasting about how much progress has been made training the Afghan army. The joke of the intelligence community predicting how long the Afghan government could resist the Taliban. The joke of our promises to Afghan allies that, if worst comes to worst, we’d protect them, give them visas, and reunite them with their families somewhere safe.

Instead the Taliban walked into cities unopposed; the President of Afghanistan fled the country; and crowds of desperate Afghans surrounded an American C-17 cargo plane as it took off from Kabul, some so desperate that they clung to the landing gear as it lifted. Videos show an Afghan falling from the sky. News reports tell of human remains later found in the wheel well of one of the planes.

How does it feel, as a veteran who watched the Iraqi province where I served fall to isis, to now watch this country—where marines I knew were shot or blown up or killed—fall to the Taliban? Who cares? As the Taliban goes house to house looking for those Afghans who believed in us, and who had the physical courage to put that belief to the test, who cares how I feel? Who cares how the vets who battled alcohol addiction only to start drinking again this week are feeling? Who cares what my marine friends are feeling as they receive frantic text messages from Afghan allies? Not, for sure, Americans for the last twenty years.

So Roger...

You still support what Biden has done in Afghanistan and still refuse to see that he fucked up and that Americans died because of it?

Is that really, really, really your argument?

Seriously??????

How many Americans would actually have to die....

before Roger would believe that ANY criticism of Biden is justified rather than some sort of derangement syndrome?

Or can Joe just kill as many as he wants?

And here I thought we were getting out of Afghanistan and not coming back?

I guess that means we will be re-engaging the Afghan war and sending in more troops to find them?

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

In a speech Thursday in which he said the United States would punish the Islamic State for a deadly attack on American service members and Afghans in Kabul, President Biden on Thursday said he would send additional troops to aid Americans in Afghanistan if his military advisers ask — though he said that has not been requested.
An Islamic State terrorist attack at the Kabul airport killed 12 U.S. troops and wounded 15 more Thursday, with an explosion in a location where Americans were searching potential Afghan evacuees.
“We will hunt you down and make you pay,” Biden said at the White House speech Thursday evening, calling those military members who died “heroes who’ve been engaged in a dangerous, selfless mission to save the lives of others."
Biden said military leaders were standing by their Aug. 31 deadline to exit Afghanistan, though he left open the possibility that more troops may be sent there to help the evacuations of Americans.

Marine Gen. Kenneth F. McKenzie Jr., chief of U.S. Central Command, said that after the explosion at the Abbey Gate of the airport, gunmen opened fire. He attributed the attack to the Islamic State, which claimed responsibility Thursday, and indicated that U.S. military action in response is possible.

President Biden pledged retribution for the attacks at the Kabul airport and promised to continue evacuation efforts.

“We will not forgive. We will not forget. We will hunt you down and make you pay,” Mr. Biden said at the White House on Thursday evening.

He said he had instructed his national security advisers to develop response plans to the attack, including plans to strike assets, leadership and facilities of ISIS-K, the Afghan affiliate of Islamic State, to which the Pentagon attributed the attacks.

An empty threat. You don't know who or where ISIS is based In Afghanistan. You don't know whether the Taliban gave sanctuary and material support for the attack.

But it's sure strange that the Taliban managed to keep Americans and Afghan civilians out of the airport but manage to miss some guys in suicide vest and automatic weapons.

No, if you really want to "make them pay" you going have to take away their sanctuary and material support and that means re-engaging in Afghanistan. Only this time, you'll get no help from the Afghans. And far more causalities than 12 dead Marines and Seaman.

Commonsense said...

Special forces are limited in what they can do. In order for them to have a chance you need to know where ISIS is. That takes intelligence which we just condemned to the Taliban. Then you would need a forward base for air support and team extraction.

So basically special operations is off the menu until you retake Bargam air base or build another forward base in country.

Short of an all out invasion of Afghanistan I don't see this happening.

Remember when Trump used missile strikes on terrorist organization and buildings in Syria?

They almost destroyed ISIS in Syria last year or so.

Modern technology has become the most important warfare method.

We have satellites that can detect almost anything like we used small aircraft during the Vietnam war.

My brother Ron was in the Navy during the Vietnam war and he was the guy who would talk on the radio to the pilots who gave him the location to fire five inch artillery weapons on destroyers to hit mortar locations and I believe machine gun stations. And probably troopers.

Today they use drones

The pilot flew since engine Cesnas. I'm not sure how to spell it correctly.

I have flown in one of them in 1969! The pilot would turn and I could look down on the ground. Father Don Murray who built Sky Ranch for Boys in South Dakota was the pilot.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

My father Ivan was the superintendent for the construction company that added two buildings to get more kids there. That was my first construction job.

He took boys from the juvenile system in Chicago to get them out of the gangs and other problems.

Located in Harding County near Camp Crook, Sky Ranch for Boys is a more than 3,000-acre facility licensed by the South Dakota Department of Social Services to take boys aged 10 to 18. The state also recognizes the on-site school as an educational provider that focuses on behavioral problems, according to the center's website.

The center began in 1960 under the guidance of Rev. Don Murray, a Catholic priest, who died in a plane crash with one of the boys in 1975. In the early 1980s, the center was run by its first lay executive director, Scott Louks, according to the Sky Ranch Foundation website.

The foundation owns the ranch and its supporters, primarily associated with the alcohol beverage industry, contributed more than $20 million in the past 50 years to help the ranch. The foundation provided the facility and 25 percent to 30 percent of the annual operating budget of Sky Ranch since shortly after the foundation was established in 1961, according to the statement.

The first time I crossed the South -Dakota Montana border was on a horseback ride!
