The first poll for 2024 - Biden loses hypothetical matchup against Trump

The Emerson poll was one of the better for Biden but still has one major problem - Biden wouldn't beat Trump

The Emerson poll was actually fairly friendly to Biden. It only showed him down one point at 46 approval, 47 disapproval and somehow the Emerson poll suggests that most of their participants blame Bush for the Afghan situation.

But they cannot hide the fact that more people would vote for Trump right now than for Biden, and I suspect that (much like the 2020 polls) this one has some liberal bias cooked in for good measure. They suggested that they weighted the poll to the 2020 electorate (which was a great year for Democrats). So even if the same people come out, there will be a swing towards Trump. But what this poll does not factor is that there may be much less enthusiasm with the 2020 Biden voters, and that the demographics will likely be different. The idea of weighing it to that same 2020 demographic is probably a flawed premise.

But either way, what it does show is a fairly significant difference between Emerson's 2020 polling (which was in the 5-6 point range for Biden) and what we see now.  If the electorate has moved 6-7 points towards Trump since the 2020 election, then just do the count as to how many States would flip and how many electoral college votes would he secure. Even if the movement was half of that, Trump would win Pennsylvania, Michigan, Arizona, Wisconsin, North Carolina and possibly a couple of others. Trump doesn't have to win a popular vote against Biden to win back the Presidency. He wins if he stays within 2-3 points and possibly even within 4.

A majority of vaccinated Americans said in a recent poll they would get a COVID-19 booster shot.

An Ipsos/Axios survey conducted Aug. 27-30 with a sample of 1,071 adults found that 58% of Americans who have already been vaccinated against the coronavirus said they’d get a booster shot if and when it’s available.

Sixty-percent said they’d get a shot if a new variant spreads, 61% said they’d get it if recommended by health officials, 68% said they would if the booster is recommended annually like a flu shot and 70% said they would if their primary health provider or doctor recommends it.

In August, White House officials announced that beginning the week of Sept. 20, adults already vaccinated with the two-dose Pfizer or Moderna coronavirus vaccines will be able to receive a third booster shot at least eight months after receipt of their second dose.

Certain immunocompromised adults — including cancer patients, those who received an organ transplant, or people with advanced or untreated HIV — are also eligible for a booster shot if they received one of the two-dose vaccines.

Those who received the one-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine are not yet advised to receive a booster shot, with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention citing an insufficient amount of data.

Infections have continued to spike across the country, fueled by vaccine hesitancy because of people like you Scott and the delta variant, which is the dominant strain in the U.S. COVID-19 cases across the U.S. have risen 14% in the past two weeks, according to The New York Times, and hospitalizations have increased 16% over that same period as of Sept. 3. Portland May Ban City Business with Texas
September 4, 2021 at 12:55 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard

“Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler (D) announced on Friday that Portland City Council will vote on an emergency resolution on Wednesday with the intent to ban city business and employee travel related to the state of Texas,” Oregon Public Broadcasting reports.

“The resolution was made in response to the state’s recent abortion laws that greatly restrict access to the procedure. In a statement from the city of Portland, the law was called unconstitutional.”

GOP Governors Rush to Mimic Texas

September 4, 2021 at 12:43 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard

“GOP officials in at least seven states, including Arkansas, Florida, South Carolina and South Dakota, have suggested they may review or amend their states’ laws to mirror Texas’s,” the Washington Post reports.

Playbook:
“We can’t help but notice that many of those states have something in common: Republican governors with 2024 ambitions.

“It sets up a competitive dynamic where each would-be GOP nominee embraces a Texas-like law in order to avoid being outflanked by a potential rival. But in doing that, they effectively put the issue front and center — politically dicey for the general election — and ensure that all Republican candidates will be asked about it.”

Well since nobody has actually ruled on the constitutionality of the law at this point, not sure what their point is. The USSC basically argued (logically) that the lawsuit that was filed against a Judge (not the state of Texas) really had no standing since the Judge in question has never actually made a ruling on anything regarding the case.

I strongly suspect that the City of Portland (just like you) are fairly uninformed about what is in the law and what the recent USSC decision actually was.

But then again... understanding the law doesn't really have anything to do with whether or not a liberal believes something to be "unconstitutional".

The Great Reassessment.

At heart, there is a massive reallocation underway in the economy that’s triggering a “Great Reassessment” of work in America from both the employer and employee perspectives. Workers are shifting where they want to work — and how. For some, this is a personal choice. The pandemic and all of the anxieties, lockdowns and time at home have changed people. Some want to work remotely forever. Others want to spend more time with family. And others want a more flexible or more meaningful career path. It’s the “you only live once” mentality on steroids. Meanwhile, companies are beefing up automation and redoing entire supply chains and office setups.

[Remote work has created one of the biggest shifts ever in daily commutes]
The reassessment is playing out in all facets of the labor market this year, as people make very different decisions about work than they did pre-pandemic.

Resignations are the highest on record — up 13 percent over pre-pandemic levels. There are 4.9 million more people who aren’t working or looking for work than there were before the pandemic. There’s a surge in retirements with 3.6 million people retiring during the pandemic, or more than 2 million more than expected. And there’s been a boost in entrepreneurship that has caused the biggest jump in years in new business applications.

“The economy is going through a big shift overall and that has ramifications,” said Ben Bernanke, the Federal Reserve chair from 2006 to 2014. “We are reallocating where we want to work and how we want to work. People are trying to figure out what their best options are and where they want to be.”

It doesn’t help that the abundance of job openings right now are not in the same occupations — or same locations — where people worked pre-pandemic.

---

Including community college and again more union jobs will help us recover from the Pandemic and the economic crisis we are already fixing it by Sleepy Joe Biden

And just imagine how much attention will this get?

Leaders of the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol slammed House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) for “baseless” comments he made about former President Trump’s involvement in the attack.

Committee Chair Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) and Vice Chair Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), issued a joint statement on Saturday in response to an interview McCarthy gave to local NBC affiliate KGET-TV Thursday.

During the interview, McCarthy suggested that the FBI and multiple senate agencies investigated Trump’s connection to the deadly riot and determined that he was not involved.

“Well you know what’s interesting…the FBI has investigated this. The Senate has investigated this,” McCarthy said. “And you know what they found? That there is no involvement.”

Thompson and Cheney said McCarthy made the claim based on an anonymous report, indicating that the Justice Department “concluded that Donald Trump did not cause, incite, or provoke the violence on January 6th.”

The leaders said when the report was first published, "the committee queried the Executive Branch agencies and congressional committees involved in the investigation.”

“We’ve received answers and briefings from the relevant entities, and it’s been made clear to us that reports of such a conclusion are baseless,” the committee leaders stated.

The leaders then called out McCarthy for "inconsistent" comments he's made following the attack.

“We also remind Minority Leader McCarthy of his statements following January 6th, including his statement from the House Floor on January 13th—which are inconsistent with his recent comments,” Thompson and Cheney continued.

The leaders were referring to a floor speech McCarthy gave as the House was voting to impeach Trump for a second time due to his connection with the Capitol riot, during which he said “the president bears responsibility” for the attack.

Narrator: In actual fact the poor have faired better under Republican administrations than Democrat administrations. compare the Republican administration under Donald Trump where unemployment dropped dramatically and real income increased for the poor as opposed to the Democratic administration of Joe Biden where unemployment for the poor skyrocketed and the resulting real income sunk like a rock.

A person like that would never tolerate abortion. (And during the 19th century abortion was a felony, there was no controversy as all people considered it ghoulish and immoral.)

Also, as time goes on, and more and more unvaccinated and maskless people sicken and even die, including children in Republican governed states which are trying to keep municipalities and districts from mandating safety measures for their local schools, it will become ever clearer how much responsiblity Donald Trump still bears for our continuing Covid crisis resulting in skyrocketing cases and deaths.

It was true in 2020 and it's true now: We're not going to be able to fix the economy until the pandemic is brought under control.

The Labor Department reported Friday that employers added just 235,000 non-farm jobs to their payrolls in August — lower than expected, and a sharp drop from June and July. The problem? COVID-19 has made a big, ugly comeback, hurting the retail and hospitality sectors in particular. "Delta's fingerprints are alllll over this report," economics writer Catherine Rampell said on Twitter.

For much of the early pandemic era, Republicans told Americans we had a choice between protecting ourselves from COVID or letting the economy thrive. Who can forget when Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick urged senior citizens to "take a chance on their survival" for the sake of the country's financial well-being? And then-President Trump continually railed against his own government's lockdown recommendations and the effect they were having on his administration's economic numbers. "We cannot let the cure be worse than the problem itself," he said last year.

But the Delta surge is proving that it's impossible to disentangle the country's economic health from its health health. While some states and locales are reimposing mask mandates — particularly in schools — the lockdown era in America is pretty much over. People are free to conduct business as they like. Right now, with the risk of infection still lurking, they're clearly hesitant.

Ironically, it's probably Republican governors who are now holding back the economy. Many of them ended their states' enhanced unemployment programs early — research shows that action didn't really increase employment, but it did cause a $2 billion reduction in household spending. And states like Florida and Texas are prohibiting businesses from requiring "vaccine passports" that would let customers know they're entering a (literally) safe space. "Why would you prevent people from enacting policies that give their customers the assurance, the confidence that they can walk into a business, and that they'll be safe?" asked one Florida state representative. Many customers have decided to stay home instead.

Those choice between a growing economy and public health was always false. The newest jobs report shows that you can't have one without the other.

There is nothing modern about abortion. Ever since the medieval ages abortion was consider a heinous crime. The MSM called him a racist.

The most bigoted bastards in the Trump administration actually tried to keep Mooslimbs immigrants from Afghanistan years ago.

Former senior Trump administration advisor Stephen Miller reportedly balked at the idea of resettling more Afghan refugees during a cabinet meeting in 2018, telling the room that the refugees would create "Iraqs," and "Stans," in the US, according to business insider.

Miller pushed an unapologetically xenophobic immigration policy during the Trump administration, helping ideate the Muslim ban and other policies which broke down and backlogged the asylum system. That is still hindering immigration

"What do you guys want?" Miller said during the meeting, according to CNN, which cited an official present during the meeting. "A bunch of Iraqs and 'Stans across the country?"

During the meeting, then-Defense Secretary James Mattis reportedly advocated to then-President Donald Trump's cabinet that the US should process more Special Immigrant Visas for Afghan allies who had worked with and risked their lives for the US.

Miller insisted on more security checks and "extreme vetting," which was a trademark of the Muslim ban.

On Friday, Miller told CNN that he stands by the same kind of vetting that he advocated for, and which was implemented by the Trump administration.

This is not the first time that former Trump administration officials have singled out Miller for his stance, as a former Pence adviser criticized his "racist hysteria" towards immigrants in late August.

One day, Donald Trump will win the Nobel Prize for advocating hydroxychloroquine too!

Right now, the medical establishment is doing the equivalent of a doctor who, when he concludes that you are in the early stages of a sinus infection, sends you home without any antibiotics and, instead, tells you to return when you're septic.  When it comes to COVID, we're all told to go home and get back to the doctor when we're on the verge of dying and interventional medicines will no longer work.  Meanwhile, almost the entire American establishment (Democrats, doctors, Hollywood stars) hectors everyone to get vaccinated.

The bias against early intervention is so strong that the same people lecturing people about vaccines are also assuring them that ivermectin, which has been touted as a possible treatment, is in fact an incredibly dangerous horse de-worming medicine.  When word got out that Joe Rogan treated his COVID with ivermectin (as well as hydroxychloroquine), the condescending sneering began:

In fact, the CDC, beloved of the American left, strongly recommends ivermectin for third-world refugees heading to America carrying inside of them a host of parasites (and yes, the image is horrible but the highlights will give you an insight into how often ivermectin is mentioned):

Just remember: Ivermectin is such a miracle drug that it won the Nobel Prize.

So the takeaway is that you're statistically unlikely to die if you get COVID and that you can decrease even those chances by convincing your doctor that ivermectin is not only not a horse medicine, but, in the right doses, so wonderful that it won a Nobel Prize.  (And if you're I, losing a few pounds is probably a good idea, too.)

Covid-19 Cases Soar Where Schools Have Opened

Wall Street Journal:
“The recent spread of the highly contagious Delta variant has thrown back-to-school plans into disarray,
temporarily driving tens of thousands of students back to virtual learning

“The shutdowns are hitting classrooms especially hard in the Deep South,
where most schools were among the first to open,
a possible warning of what’s to come as the rest of the nation’s students start school this month…

“It is difficult to assess precisely how badly schools have been hit by the virus,
