Another bad sign for Democrats in 2022

Democrat Registration Numbers Plummet In Swing States, Spelling Doom for the Left
Just last month, numbers showed that Democrats were losing any kind of foothold they had over Florida as its registration numbers continued to shrink by leaps and bounds. It was one of the few remaining glimmers of hope in the state of DeSantis, and now they’re watching helplessly as it shrinks to nothing. The once purple battleground state of Florida is becoming a very deep red as Democrats lead in registration by only 24,000 voters.

In Pennsylvania, Democrats now lead Republicans in voter registration by about 632,000 people, down from 813,885 two years ago. The same is true in another battleground state, North Carolina, where Democrats’ advantage has shrunk by more than 140,000 since October 2019. There are fewer active registered Democrats on the books in North Carolina now than there were six years ago.

Obviously these are just a few states, but they seem pretty indicative of what has been happening in the South and Great Lakes area (crazy mail in ballot results in Pennsylvania and Michigan notwithstanding). Republicans have been on the move in many of these states.

Democrats generally hold a fairly significant lead in voter registration, likely due to a larger mobilization of voter registration volunteers and such. But just because you stopped someone on the street or went door to door and got them to register as a Democrat, doesn't mean that they will come out and vote that way. That is why these large voter roll advantages don't aways create automatic wins.

The idea of new voters laws that offer registration when you do things like renew your driver's license are good for both sides and do not necessarily create an advantage either way. Moreover with the manner in which liberals have taken to hiding in their basement because of Covid, it might be sometime before these same people are willing to stop strangers on the street or go door to door.

Now how much of this is really less Democratic voters versus how much of this is less people being prompted to register as a Democrat because they met up with a Democratic volunteer is anyone's guess. But either way, it cannot be good news for Democrats. Only a different shade of bad.

Okay but

Multiple people were wounded Wednesday morning in a shooting at Timberview High School in Arlington, Texas, according to local media.

Several law enforcement agencies, including Arlington and Mansfield police, responded to the school. NBC Dallas-Fort Worth reported that there are multiple victims and ambulances were seen leaving the school.

"We are on scene at a shooting at Timberview High School. We are doing a methodical search," the Arlington Police Department tweeted. "We will be announcing a parent staging location soon once the location is identified"

Other news developments could help or hurt Biden politically as well, such as whether Democrats in Congress pass their infrastructure and budget reconciliation bills or if the government defaults on its debt. So we’ll have to wait and see what happens to Biden’s approval rating going forward — which will be important for, among other reasons, assessing how big of a shellacking Democrats will receive in the 2022 midterm elections (or if they will receive one at all). But for now at least, Biden has a lower approval rating at this point in his term than all but two presidents

Gerald Ford and Trump.

I think he’s got an unusually big hole to dig himself out of.

Nathaniel Rakich is a senior elections analyst at FiveThirtyEight

I thought his approval rating would get better after the Afghanistan perils as we left the longest war in history.

Has the Gestapo convinced GM that climate change is real?

General Motors plans to double its revenues over the next decade as it transitions to an all-electric future, tapping into software and subscription services that enable new vehicle experiences and connect customers' digital lives, the company told reporters on Wednesday.

Why it matters: It's an extraordinary target for a lumbering industrial giant that is trying to transform itself from automaker to "platform innovator."

GM previewed key elements of its growth strategy with journalists ahead of an investor meeting today at its technical center outside Detroit. Key highlights include:

Revenue will double by 2030, along with higher profit margins, they said.

Chief Executive Mary Barra said the company sees "moderate growth" with its current portfolio of gasoline-powered vehicles and automotive financing. But most of the growth will come from the addition of electric vehicles to its lineup, as well as new subscriptions and services, including Onstar insurance.GM also plans to add revenues from other businesses including its GM Defense unit, Brightdrop commercial delivery business, Cruise robotaxis — which are getting closer to commercialization — and selling fuel cell technology to partners like Honda.

More electric vehicles: GM says it plans to reach "leadership in EV market share" — surpassing Tesla — with a broad portfolio of high-volume plug-in models, including a $30,000 Chevrolet crossover utility.

GM confirmed an electric Chevrolet Silverado will debut at CES in Las Vegas in January. The Silverado-E will offer a range of more than 400 miles, and will feature an optional glass roof and four-wheel steering.GM plans to follow it up with an electric version of the GMC Sierra pickup."No one is going to be able to touch us in the battery truck space," GM President Mark Reuss, hinting at a unique approach to electric trucks.Buick crossovers, and Cadillac EVs including the Lyriq and Celestiq are also coming, along with the trucks.GM said 50 percent of its factories in North America and China will be capable of EV production by 2030.

Hands-free driving: GM unveiled Ultra Cruise, a new advanced driver assistance technology aims to enable hands-free driving in 95% of all driving scenarios.

Ultra Cruise will be available on premium vehicles like Cadillac, while GM's existing highway-assistance technology, Super Cruise, will be available on mainstream cars and trucks."The combination of Ultra Cruise for premium offerings and Super Cruise for lower-cost products, will enable us to offer driver assist technology across price points and segments," said Doug Parks, GM's executive vice president of global product development, purchasing and supply chain.Ultra Cruise will initially cover more than 2 million miles of roads in the U.S. and Canada — 10 times as many as today's Super Cruise — and will eventually cover 3.4 million miles (essentially every paved road in the U.S. and Canada.)

GM stock is down today on their exciting news that they will be going all electric.

This is certainly a wonderful PR move if you want to get in with the progressive crowd. But poll after poll after poll after poll shows the the average US driver does not want an electric car.

Moreover, how does a state like California with all of their rolling electrical blackouts deal with adding an additional 30 million or so vehicles that suddenly require electricity?

Volvo made a similar announcement in March - they have lost over 15% of their stock value since then.

AND THE BOOKS KEEP COMING OUT

Midnight In Washington
October 6, 2021 at 1:47 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard 5 Comments

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) has an excerpt of his new book in Vanity Fair that describes what it was like at the U.S. Capitol on January 6 during the insurrection.

“It was not always like this, it must be said, because the Republican Party has also not always been like this. The four years of the Trump presidency destroyed many friendships, and not a few marriages.

“But it also destroyed the Republican Party—once devoted to robust alliances, a healthy mistrust of executive power, and the expansion of democracy around the world—and turned it into something else: a party willing to tear down the institutions of its own government, a party willing to give aid and comfort to a malign foreign power that wishes to destroy us, a party hostile to the truth.”

Taegen Goddard says: The book is a must-read.

This good news just happened

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) told Republican colleagues at lunch Wednesday that he will make a new offer to Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) on a path forward to raising the nation’s debt limit, marking the start of long-awaiting negotiations between the two leaders.

“I think you’re going to hear from Leader McConnell. He’s going to outline the proposal that he is prepared to discuss with Leader Schumer, and I think that’s going to give us a way out of the woods, which is what we want,” Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) told reporters after the lunch.

Murkowski said she knew the parameters of the deal McConnell will offer Schumer but declined to discuss specifics, saying she would leave it to the leader.

Senators say they are not aware of any talks between McConnell and Schumer over the looming expiration of the federal debt limit, which the Treasury Department says will happen by Oct. 18.

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), a key centrist, earlier in the day ruled out creating an exception to the filibuster to allow Democrats to suspend the debt limit until December 2022 without any GOP support.

Manchin urged McConnell and Schumer to begin talking to figure out a deal.

“I truly implore both leaders ... to engage, start working, work this out,” Manchin said.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Senate Minority Whip John Thune (R-S.D.) before the lunch meeting said he was optimistic about a deal.

“There are a lot of conversations right now about a path forward and I think we can find that path,” he said. “We got a vote this afternoon. I think after that vote we’ll have a better sense about that.

The Senate is scheduled to vote Wednesday afternoon to advance a House-passed bill to suspend the debt limit until after the 2022 election.

McConnell is playing a great deal with his team. He is avoiding a potential nuclear deal to abolish the filibuster.

Because he's not going to block this.

WASHINGTON, Oct 6 (Reuters) - Top U.S. Senate Republican Mitch McConnell on Wednesday said his party would support an extension of the federal debt ceiling into December, a move that would head off a historic default with a heavy economic toll.

That could provide an off-ramp to a months-long standoff between President Joe Biden's Democrats and McConnell's Republicans, who were expected to block on Wednesday a third attempt by Senate Democrats to raise the $28.4 trillion debt ceiling.

"To protect the American people from a near-term Democrat-created crisis, we will also allow Democrats to use normal procedures to pass an emergency debt limit extension at a fixed dollar amount to cover current spending levels into December," McConnell said in a statement on Wednesday.

The Wednesday afternoon procedural vote is intended to allow the Senate to begin debating a bill that would suspend the debt limit until December 2022, after elections that will determine control of Congress for the next two years.

That passed the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives last week but Republicans have stalled it in the Senate with the filibuster.

"The treasonous"  CIA Gate at Kabul Airport Became an Escape Path for AfghansNicknamed Glory Gate, the back entrance was hidden from the Taliban and used to evacuate embassy staff and others

By

Jessica Donati

Oct. 6, 2021 2:36 pm ET

WASHINGTON—While thousands of people crowded outside the main gates of the Kabul airport seeking to escape Afghanistan in August, the Central Intelligence Agency opened a back door about 2 miles away along the northern perimeter of the airfield.

Known by various code names, including Glory Gate and Liberty Gate, the airport entry, which hasn’t been previously reported, was so secret even the Taliban were unaware it existed. It was located opposite a gas station and run by CIA operatives and Delta Force and guarded by a CIA-trained Afghan paramilitary unit known as 02, who evacuated alongside the Americans in the final flights.

“The gas station was where our guys would go grab Afghans,” who were seeking to leave, a former CIA operative said.

Initially, it was used to smuggle out priority cases for the CIA, including intelligence assets, local agents and their families and a list of high-importance cases sent from the White House. Later, the entrance was expanded to become the main conduit for State Department efforts in the final 48 hours of the civilian evacuation mission to help vulnerable Afghans who worked at the U.S. Embassy and others who could not make it through Taliban checkpoints blocking access to the airport.

The makeshift entrance was created out of Hesco barriers, barbed wire and concrete blast walls that were moved by forklift to provide a layer of protection to the operatives at the entrance.

It is insane not to want electric cars

We literally have no idea where the extra electricity will come considering we already see rolling blackouts in parts of the country.

Nobody has figured out what to do with the lithium batteries when they are done with them. No good means to dispose of them.

And quite frankly, with the exception of Tesla, the electric cars have not been very impressive. In fact, statistics show that a majority of electric car owners convert back to gas cars when it's time to buy again.

But hey... good to know that you believe that people are "insane" for wanting the choice in a matter like this. Perhaps once they work out all of the kinks (and there are many according to a couple people who have owned electric cars) - I will choose (when it is right for me) to own an electric car.

Right now... it is not an especially popular decision with investors when a car company says they are going 100% electric.

What is also lost on many liberals when it comes to electric cars is that a majority of our electricity comes from power plants that use some sort of fossil fuel to create that electricity.

Right now wind makes up only 7% of electricity, water makes up another 6% and solar makes up less than 2. 20% comes from nuclear power.

The rest is created by coal, natural gas, etc...

So when you charge your car, you are still likely using natural fossil fuels or nuclear power to power that electricity.

What a difference five years makes. Donald Trump failed to kill Obamacare, and now it’s growing by leaps and bounds.

In Florida, for example, consumers who buy health insurance on the federal exchange created by the Affordable Care Act will find significantly expanded options when Open Enrollment for 2022 begins on Nov. 1.

In Broward and Palm Beach counties, 11 health insurance companies are now offering plans eligible for federal subsidies. In Palm Beach County, 10 companies are now competing, according to a list of companies approved by the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation to sell health insurance next year.

Florida, which depends on Obamacare more than any other state on the federal exchange, swelled to 2.25 million enrollees after netting about 400,000 during the special enrollment period, according to federal data, And in the tricounty region, enrollments increased by about 228,000 compared with the 951,000 who were enrolled at the beginning of 2021.

Trump is committing a criminal conspiracy in plain sight — and DOJ needs to take action: ex-prosecutor

Bob Brigham

October 06, 2021

The United States Department of Justice should be opening an investigation into alleged efforts by former President Donald Trump to block the investigation being conducted by the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol, according to a former federal prosector.

Glenn Kirschner explained the situation on the latest episode of his "Justice Matters" podcast.

He noted a new report by the Guardian.

"The former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and other top aides subpoenaed by the House select committee investigating the Capitol attack are expected to defy orders for documents and testimony related to 6 January, according to a source familiar with the matter," the Guardian reported. "All four Trump aides targeted by the select committee – Meadows, deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino, strategist Steve Bannon and defense department aide Kash Patel – are expected to resist the orders because Trump is preparing to direct them to do so, the source said."

Kirschner offered his analysis.

"Now friends, let's be clear, Donald Trump telling these individuals — his criminal associates in a very real sense — not to testify against him, not to testify at the select committee hearing investigation the January 6th attack, is no different that a mob boss telling his capos, his underbosses, his consigliere, do not testify against me," he explained.

Kirschner noted that Trump pardoned Bannon for a scam to rip off MAGA supporters with a border wall fundraising effort. He explained how Trump essentially let Bannon get away with keeping the money, and is now reportedly asking Bannon to impede the investigation.

"When will the Department of Justice begin indicting these people for the crimes that they continue to commit in the harsh light of day?" he asked.

Here's exactly why Republicans are afraid to criticize Donald Trump

Donald Trump's control of the GOP is near-total. So dominant -- and domineering -- a figure does the former President cut within the Republican Party that almost no elected official is willing to criticize even his most outlandish claims.

New data from Pew makes abundantly clear why.

More than 6 in 10 (63%) of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents think that the party should not be too accepting of elected officials who openly criticize Trump. Three in 10 say the party should not accept any criticism of Trump from its elected officials.

Compare that to the 6 in 10 Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents who say their side should be at least somewhat accepting of elected officials who criticize President Joe Biden and you have some sense of just how much the Republican Party has devolved into a simple cult of personality.

What's remarkable -- at least to me -- is that the utter fealty to Trump expected by the bulk of Republican voters has continued even though the former President is no longer in office.

Despite his lack of political office and his much-debunked claims about the 2020 election being fraudulent, Trump's grip on the party base and, therefore, its elected leaders remains firm.

The political incentive for a Republican to cross Trump publicly in this sort of environment is close to zero. Whether it's Jeff Flake or Justin Amash or, more recently, Liz Cheney, stepping out of line to offer a critique of Trump ends badly -- in raw political terms -- for the person willing to take a stand.

The "smart" thing to do politically given how Republicans feel about Trump is to keep your head down when you disagree with one of the former President's many impolitic comments or apostasies of once-untouchable conservative belief.

That is also the opposite of leadership. Which is why the Republican Party is struggling to define what, exactly, it stands for these days.

The Point: There's no room for dissent in the current iteration of the Republican Party. That should worry every single person who cares about the GOP's future..

Maryland anti-vaxxer murdered his pharmacist brother because he believed vaccines were poison: prosecutors

Brad Reed

October 06, 2021

Newly unsealed court documents allege that a Maryland man murdered his own pharmacist brother because he believed the COVID-19 vaccines he was distributing were killing people.

The Baltimore Sun reports that 46-year-old Jeffrey Burnham told his mother that he planned on confronting 58-year-old brother Brian Robinette because he was his own clients by getting them vaccinated against the novel coronavirus.

In addition to allegedly killing Robinette, he is also alleged to have killed 57-year-old sister-in-law Sue Robinette and and 83-year-old Rebecca Reynolds, a resident of Cumberland, Maryland whose car he stole and drove to his brother's house.

"According to the charging documents filed Wednesday against Burnham related to the Howard County murders, Burnham told another unnamed person that his brother was 'killing people with the COVID shot,'" reports the Baltimore Sun. "Burnham's mother Evelyn Burnham previously expressed concerns about her younger son's mental health. In charging documents filed against Burnham in Reynolds' death in Allegany County, Evelyn Burnham called Cumberland police twice last week because of her son's 'mental stability' after he made statements about the FBI 'being after' them both."

Burnham fled to West Virginia, but was eventually apprehended by police after he flagged down a local firefighter and told him that he "had been forced to kill three people."

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) blinked.

Why it matters: After McConnell refused for months to budge over his insistence that Democrats suspend the debt limit through the budget reconciliation process, he tried to forestall changes to the filibuster by offering Democrats an alternate route to temporarily raise the debt limit through December.

Behind the scenes: McConnell's decision was in large part driven by Democrats' fresh calls to go nuclear and modify the filibuster — which requires 60 votes to move on major legislation — as they sought to break the debt-limit impasse.

"The paramount concern here is saving the 60-vote rule, saving the filibuster," a Republican senator told Axios."If you compare the debt ceiling, which is raised frequently, to permanently changing the Senate as an institution, it's not even a close call," the senator added.

What we're hearing: Democrats seem to be leaning toward taking the deal, according to Axios' conversations with senior leadership aides.

Democratic leaders also delayed Wednesday's scheduled cloture vote on the House-passed bill to suspend the debt limit through December 2022.A Schumer aide told Axios "it appears the two sides are nearing an agreement, but the conversations about specifics are ongoing and neither leader has formally said anything, so ...""Either option will provide the Democrats who control Washington with even more time to pass standalone debt limit legislation through reconciliation," a Republican leadership aide said. "These are reasonable paths to avoid default."If both sides accept the deal, they'd create more uncertainty at the end of the year. Government funding is also set to expire in December without renewed action.

The big picture: Democrats are already previewing how they'll use the messaging in their favor, while their Republican counterparts are keeping mum.

“McConnell caved,” Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) told reporters. “And now we're going to spend our time doing child care, health care and fighting climate change.”Several Republican senators, including Sens. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.), Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), refused to comment on McConnell's offer and whether they'd support a short-term debt ceiling increase. They told Axios they wanted to see where the negotiations led before weighing in.

The Republican senators also dodged questions about whether they were frustrated with McConnell's approach.

Former President Trump, however, was quick to criticize McConnell: “Looks like Mitch McConnell is folding to the Democrats, again," he said in a statement.

Kamala Harris Might Have to Stop the Steal

Constitutional scholars are already worrying about another January 6 crisis, and they warn that the next election might be harder to save.

For a few hours inside the ransacked Capitol on January 6, then–Vice President Mike Pence helped to preserve the democratic order by insisting that he was powerless to change the outcome of the election. On January 6, 2025, that responsibility could fall to Vice President Kamala Harris, but the task of preventing a stolen presidential election won’t be that simple.

The nightmare scenarios that most frighten election observers heading toward 2024 all culminate in a quadrennial Joint Session of Congress—the same formal meeting that rioters interrupted in their failed bid to keep Donald Trump in the White House earlier this year. What scares them, however, is not necessarily a reprise of that violent day. They fear a bloodless coup that begins in state capitals, wins the blessing of conservatives atop the courts, and then secures the decisive votes of Trump-supporting Republicans in Congress. The risk of an even worse crisis is greater in 2024, these election experts say, because Trump supporters are likely to be far better positioned than they were in 2020. “Our democracy is in great peril today,” Norm Eisen, a prominent Democratic lawyer who co-founded the nonpartisan States United Democracy Center, told me. “We’re in a Weimar moment in America.”

Should Trump or his acolytes try to subvert the 2024 election, the last Democrat with any power to stop the steal—or at least try to—would be Harris. “She’s certainly going to have quite a job on her hands on January 6, 2025,” Laurence Tribe, a Harvard law professor and liberal constitutional scholar, told me. Nine months ago, Tribe and other Democrats praised Pence for interpreting his authority narrowly, but the next time around, they might ask Harris to wield the same gavel more forcefully.

Nine months ago Trump tried to steal the election.

You don't give a fuck

A recent gathering in a Quality Inn ballroom in rural Bradley, Illinois, offered a glimpse—terrifying to most epidemiologists, thrilling to longtime vaccine "safety" activists—of America's growing political divide over vaccinations and its implications for the nation's health. Ostensibly, the meeting was a community forum about employer mandates for COVID vaccines that the organizer expected to draw 80 people in this overwhelmingly Republican exurb of Chicago. Instead, more than 300 people piled in, mostly to complain about the notion that anyone—a boss, a school, a government—could force them to take any vaccines at all. As one Libertarian county commissioner told the crowd: "I will fight for your right to believe in whatever god, medicine or way of life you choose."

The event is being replicated in some form or another in cities and towns across America, emblematic of a growing grassroots movement of people who believe that vaccine mandates—for COVID, yes, but increasingly for other diseases as well—are an affront to their personal freedom. That represents a marked shift from pre-pandemic times, when vaccine opponents typically based their reasoning on medical concerns and were largely comprised of a few religious sects and a small number of left-leaning activists seeking explanations for rising rates of autism. As the anti-vaxx mandate movement gains political traction, particularly on the right, medical experts fear it could not only cripple efforts to eradicate COVID but could also lead to a surge in long-conquered diseases, from mumps to whooping cough to smallpox.

McConnell out maneuvers Schumer again. Roger as usual gets it wrong.

No matter what Schumer does the debt ceiling has to be a stand-alone bill and Schumer will have to use reconciliation to get a permanent debt ceiling passed.

Democrats and Democrats alone own this issue.

WASHINGTON — Even by the standards of President Al Capone, it was an extraordinary Oval Office showdown. On the agenda was Mr. Capone ’s desire to install a loyalist as acting attorney general to carry out his demands for more aggressive investigations into his unfounded claims of election fraud.

On the other side during that meeting on the evening of Jan. 3 were the top leaders of the Justice Department, who warned Mr. Capone that they and other senior officials would resign en masse if he followed through. They received immediate support from another key participant: Pat A. Cipollone, the White House counsel. According to others at the meeting, Mr. Cipollone indicated that he and his top deputy, Patrick F. Philbin, would also step down if Mr. Trump acted on his plan.

Mr. Capone ’s proposed plan, Mr. Cipollone argued, would be a “murder-suicide pact,” one participant recalled. Only near the end of the nearly three-hour meeting did Mr. Capone relent and agree to drop his threat.

Mr. Cipollone’s stand that night is among the new details contained in a lengthy interim report prepared by the Senate Judiciary Committee about Mr. Capone ’s efforts to pressure the Justice Department to do his bidding in the chaotic final weeks of his presidency.

At their Tuesday lunch, Democratic senators discussed how McConnell’s blockade on the debt ceiling was boosting the case of filibuster reformers. Later that day, Biden, generally a skeptic of filibuster reform, said such a change for the debt ceiling was now a ‘real possibility.’”

Also interesting: “The minority leader seemed skittish enough about where filibuster reform fever was headed in the Democratic caucus that he vetted his compromise plan with Manchin and Sinema.

If every Democrat in the Senate voted to remove the filibuster, vice President Harris would have ended the filibuster. He was not willing to take the chance.

Sleepy Joe Biden is succeeding at a record level.

COVID-19 cases have been falling across the U.S. for weeks — and now deaths are finally on the decline, too.

Why it matters: The Delta wave may truly be behind us, and though unvaccinated people in heavily unvaccinated areas will always remain at risk, getting the virus under control would allow the country as a whole to breathe a little easier this fall.

By the numbers: The U.S. is now averaging roughly 102,000 new cases per day — a 22% drop over the past two weeks.

Deaths are also falling, by a nationwide average of about 13%. The virus is now killing roughly 1,800 Americans per day.Deaths had been rising for the past few weeks even as infections declined. That’s to be expected — deaths are the last number to go up when a new wave sets in, and the last to go down when that wave ebbs.

Context: A year ago, when no one was vaccinated and the worst wave of the pandemic was just getting started, experts were sounding the alarm because cases had crept up above 50,000.

To be sitting above 100,000 daily cases now, even after millions of Americans have been vaccinated or have some level of immunity from a previous infection, is a sign of just how transmissible the Delta variant is and how poorly the U.S. has contained it.And while some vaccinated people do get infected, almost none will die from those infections. But six months after every American adult became eligible for a vaccine, the virus' death toll in the U.S. is still roughly equivalent to a 9/11 every two days.

The bottom line: The number of Americans contracting and dying from COVID-19 remains quite high, but things are moving in the right direction.

REVEALED: Trump pushed so-called 'murder-suicide pact' to 'shred Constitution' in Oval Office meeting

John Wright

October 07, 2021

A report from the Senate Judiciary Committee reveals new details about former president Donald Trump's efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

During an Oval Office meeting on Jan. 3, Trump pushed to install a loyalist as acting attorney general who would conduct additional investigations into his false claims of widespread election fraud, according to the New York Times.

In response, several top Department of Justice officials threatened to resign en masse if Trump went through with the plan. White House counsel Pat A. Cipollone also threatened to resign and said his top deputy, Patrick F. Philbin, would step down, too.

"Mr. Trump's proposed plan, Mr. Cipollone argued, would be a 'murder-suicide pact,' one participant recalled. Only near the end of the nearly three-hour meeting did Mr. Trump relent and agree to drop his threat," the Times reports.

The Senate committee's report provides the "most complete account yet of Mr. Trump's efforts to push the department to validate election fraud claims that had been disproved by the F.B.I. and state investigators," according to the Times.

"The interim report, expected to be released publicly this week, describes how Justice Department officials scrambled to stave off a series of events during a period when Mr. Trump was getting advice about blocking certification of the election from a lawyer he had first seen on television and the president's actions were so unsettling that his top general and the House speaker discussed the nuclear chain of command," the Times reports.

Democratic Sen. Richard Durbin, who chairs the committee, issued a statement saying the report suggests Trump would have "shredded the Constitution to stay in power."

"This report shows the American people just how close we came to a constitutional crisis," Durbin said. "Thanks to a number of upstanding Americans in the Department of Justice, and Mike Pence Donald Trump was unable to bend the department to his will. But it was not due to a lack of effort."

Americans Give President Biden Lowest Marks Across The Board,
Quinnipiac University National Poll Finds;
Majority Say The Biden Administration Is Not Competent

President Joe Biden receives a negative 38 - 53 percent job approval rating, the lowest score he's received from the American people on his job performance since taking office, according to a Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pea- ack) University national poll of adults released today. In Quinnipiac's last national poll released 3 weeks ago, he received a negative 42 - 50 percent job approval rating.

Today, Republicans (94 - 4 percent) and independents (60 - 32 percent) disapprove of the job Biden is doing, while Democrats approve 80 - 10 percent.

Biden received negative scores in the double digits on all but one key issue when Americans were asked about his handling of ...

the response to the coronavirus: 48 percent approve, while 50 percent disapprove;
the economy: 39 percent approve, while 55 percent disapprove;
his job as Commander in Chief of the U.S. military: 37 percent approve, while 58 percent disapprove;
taxes: 37 percent approve, while 54 percent disapprove;
foreign policy: 34 percent approve, while 58 percent disapprove;
immigration issues: 25 percent approve, while 67 percent disapprove;
the situation at the Mexican border: 23 percent approve, while 67 percent disapprove.

Aides Quickly Drag President Away As He Tries To Join In ‘F*** Joe Biden’ Chant

WASHINGTON, D.C.—President Biden took a much-needed break from his 4-hour workdays and late-night Matlock binges to attend the Congressional Baseball Game this past weekend, but things quickly went south when he attempted to join the crowd in a rowdy "F*** Joe Biden" chant.

"Yeah, that Biden guy is the worst!" said Biden. "F*** Joe Biden! F*** Joe Biden! Hehe, nothing like a rowdy chant at the old ball game, eh folks?"

Panicked aides quickly grabbed him by the arms and dragged him out of sight to administer some additional meds.

According to witnesses, Biden later returned to the game and looked out on the crowd with his classic medication-induced serene Biden smile.

The FBI has confirmed they will be dedicating 1,328 agents to investigate who started the insurrectionist chant so they can be arrested.

The companies said Thursday that they submitted the application for authorization with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The FDA may clear the shot for use in the youths before November, which would mean pediatrician offices, schools and other locations could get doses to give as early as Halloween.

The FDA has already scheduled for a panel of outside experts to review the data Oct. 26. The agency doesn’t have to follow the panel’s recommendation, but normally does.

If authorized, young children would get two injections of the Pfizer-BioNTech, three weeks apart, just like adolescents and adults do but at a lower dosage.

Senate Leaders Agree to Short-Term Debt Ceiling Lift
October 7, 2021 at 10:56 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Top Senate Democrats and Republicans said on Thursday that they had struck a deal to allow the debt ceiling to be raised through early December, temporarily staving off the threat of a first-ever default on the national debt after the GOP agreed to temporarily drop its blockade of an increase,” the New York Times reports.

“The agreement would boost the legal debt cap by $480 billion, according to a Senate aide familiar with the details, which the Treasury Department estimates would be enough to allow the government to continue borrowing through Dec. 3. The current limit is $28.4 trillion, since Aug. 1.”

Washington Post: “But it also tees up yet another vicious fight between Democrats and Republicans over the future of federal spending, a battle likely to be all the more fierce in the waning hours of the year — when Congress must confront other challenges including an urgent need to fund the government and prevent a shutdown. An existing agreement to fund federal operations also expires in early December.”

Rift Widens Between Business Groups and House GOP
October 7, 2021 at 12:26 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Lobbying efforts by some of the nation’s biggest business groups are falling on deaf ears with House Republicans just a few years after the two worked in lockstep to craft the 2017 tax bill that delivered massive corporate tax cuts,” The Hill reports.

“Even after every major business group in Washington, D.C., urged House Republicans to support the Senate-passed $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill, only a handful of GOP lawmakers have said they would vote for the measure.”
_____

"The business of America is business," said Calvin Coolidge in 1927.

The modern GOP apparently doesn't agree.

Multiple people were wounded Wednesday morning in a shooting at Timberview High School in Arlington, Texas, according to local media.

But now it's like it never even happened.

Gee, I wonder why.

Oh wait.

The shooter happened to be BLACK and sporting a .45 in school.

"The decision he made, taking the gun, we are not justifying that. That was not right," said family member Carol Harrison Lafayette. "But he was trying to protect himself. We hope the police department does the investigation properly."

Lafayette says the fight stemmed from what they call ongoing, documented incidents between Simpkins and other students. Those claims have not been confirmed by Mansfield ISD or police.

LOL.

Blaming the victims and demanding a po-lice investigation an shit, yo.

Lafayette might be able to parlay this into Buying a Large Mansion.

Perhaps the most bizarre of logic-defying anomalies that are becoming commonplace is the National School Boards Association (NSBA)'s letter to the Biden administration demanding that anti-terrorist laws such as the PATRIOT Act be used against parents protesting against curriculum content and school mandates.  Parents have of late been extremely vocal against the teaching of the Marxist Critical Race Theory (CRT), the use of sexually explicit material in the classroom, the promotion of gender fluidity, and implementation of severe COVID-19 restrictions.  The NSBA has asked the FBI, the Secret Services, and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to "investigate, intercept, and prevent the current threats and acts of violence" by whatever "extraordinary measures" necessary.  Mischaracterizing the First Amendment right to assembly and protest as "hate crimes," it has demanded the removal of protesters from school grounds.

Social justice warriors use such hyper-charged rhetoric about reasonable dissent to indoctrinate students and to marginalize and censor parents who object to their subterfuge.  Virginia's Democratic gubernatorial candidate, Terry McAuliffe, even argued that parents have no right to tell schools what to teach.  Vetoing legislation that gave parents the right to decide on books used in schools, he said, "I'm not going to let parents come into schools, and actually take books out, and make their own decision."  Even when the books contained sexually explicit material.  Not unexpectedly, U.S. attorney general Merrick Garland has instructed the FBI to mobilize against dissenting parents.

The examples cited illustrate how the cultural Marxists' agenda has infiltrated our schools, universities, military, courts, and beyond.  Together with the government, the woke cabal functions as a quasi-totalitarian regime that advances a deceitful agenda and suppresses — or "cancels" — all contrary views, disguising the truth beyond recognition.  The dissonance, and concurrent unease, of the condoning of BLM and Antifa's violence, the exoneration of military incompetence and treason, and the criminalization of legitimate dissent represents a series of "through the looking glass" moments for the average "unwoke" American.  As ex-radical and conservative writer and policy advocate David Horowitz declares, "inside every progressive is a totalitarian screaming to get out."

Report details Trump's efforts to reverse election results
Associated Press
October 7, 2021

WASHINGTON (AP) — A report by the Senate Judiciary Committee's Democratic majority details Donald Trump’s extraordinary effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election that he lost, with the Justice Department brought to the brink of chaos and top officials there and at the White House threatening to resign.

The report describes how the Republican incumbent tried to undo the vote and exert his will on the department, asking leaders to declare the election “corrupt.” His actions led to a near-revolt at department headquarters that receded only after senior officials warned of a mass resignation.

At one White House meeting, Trump considered replacing the acting attorney general, Jeffrey Rosen, with the acting assistant attorney general, Jeffrey Clark, telling Rosen: "One thing we know is you, Rosen, aren’t going to do anything to overturn the election.”

Clark had positioned himself as more sympathetic to pursuing Trump’s fraud claims
even though
*the results were certified by states and Republican election officials,
*courts rejected dozens of legal challenges
*and Trump's onetime attorney general, William Barr, said Democrat Joe Biden won fairly.

But several officials in the three-hour meeting told Trump they would resign if he put Clark in charge at the Justice Department. According to witnesses interviewed by the Senate committee's majority staff, White House counsel Pat Cipollone referred to a draft letter from Clark pushing Georgia officials to convene a special legislative session on the election results as a “murder suicide pact,” and Cipollone also threatened to quit.

Richard Donoghue, who was Rosen’s deputy at the time, replied there was “no chance” he would sign that letter or “anything remotely like that." Donoghue told the committee that he told Trump that all of the assistant attorneys general, and perhaps U.S. attorneys and other senior department officials, would resign en masse if the president were to replace Rosen with Clark.

The all-out press by Trump and his allies did not succeed and Biden took office on Jan. 20. But the report points to serious concerns for upcoming elections, shows just how fragile the U.S. system is and spotlights how that system relies in large part on the integrity of government workers.

INTEGRITY IS THE ONE MAJOR THING LACKING IN TRUMP AND IN EVERYTHING ABOUT HIM.

Impeachment lawyer says Trump’s Jan. 6 enablers won’t be able to refuse subpoenas

Sarah K. Burris

October 07, 2021

The House Jan. 6 committee is expected to recommend to the Justice Department that they take action against those subpoenaed by the investigatory committee, NBC News reporter Sahil Kapur reported Thursday. While the committee hasn't announced it yet, impeachment lawyer Norm Eisen agrees it's only a matter of time.

Writing for CNN.com, Eisen and the Democracy Center's Hank Sparks explained that top allies of President Donald Trump won't be able to hide from subpoenas now that they can't rely on the White House to protect them. The committee intends to send out many more subpoenas but began with former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, former White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications Daniel Scavino, former Defense Department official Kashyap Patel, and former Trump advisor Stephen Bannon, according to the committee. They have until Oct. 15 to respond to the requests.

Several books that have been released in the past months since the attack have revealed accounts of what was going on in real-time among Trump staffers. It was also revealed Thursday that Meadows was part of an effort to get the Justice Department to attack the election results.

Scavino, who is apparently hiding from process servers, was behind Trump's social media. The former president was known for dictating tweets to Scavino, who was constantly around Trump for that reason.

Patel was picked by Trump to keep an eye on those at the Pentagon, ensuring that he was in constant communication with the president.

Bannon was among those predicting what would happen on Jan. 6 with startling accuracy. He told Trump to "kill this administration in the crib" before Jan. 6, according to the new book by Bob Woodward and Robert Costa.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Another 11 subpoenas targeted those behind the funding and coordination of the Jan. 6 event.

"Those subpoena includes the former Trump campaign aide Katrina Pierson, who, the subpoena says (based on news reports), helped organize the rally and met with Trump in the Oval Office just two days before the insurrection," the column explained. "The subpoena targets also include Caroline Wren, who received tens of thousands of dollars as a consultant for the Trump campaign and Republican National Committee's joint fundraising committee, according to the Center for Responsive Politics' OpenSecrets site. Her title at the rally? 'VIP adviser.'"

Organizer Megan Powers was also all over the rally paperwork as the "Operations Manager for Schedule and Guidance," the select committee subpoena said. She was given $300,000 to pay for her work coordinating things, Trump's campaign finance reports say.

The column explained that there aren't any places to hide for these Trump allies anymore. President Joe Biden has said that he won't allow executive privilege to cover anything involving Jan. 6. But even if Biden wanted to, he couldn't, according to past Supreme Court rulings in Nixon v. Administrator of General Services, which ruled that "the privilege is not for the benefit of the President as an individual, but for the benefit of the Republic."

Attorney General Merrick Garland has also made it clear that the Justice Department intends to use every resource available to bring anyone involved to justice.

The bipartisan select committee also said that they are willing to use whatever options they have to ensure people answer their questions on the record.

"All of the foregoing matters not just for Trump's congressional reckoning, but also for his criminal one. Serious federal criminal violations are potentially implicated here for Trump," the column explained. "While there is no sign the Department of Justice is actually looking at him so far, depending on what the select committee unearths, the committee can make referrals to the Department of Justice to take action."

Thus, they believe that Trump and his allies have nowhere else to hide.

It wasn't a coup at all. By its very definition a coup is a conspiracy. Like the FBI lying on FISAL warrants and conspired with the Clinton campaign and news media to remove a sitting President from office.

What happen Jan 6 was a disorganized rabble.
