Krugman once again finds nothing ever being wrong when a Democrat is in the White House

History Says Don’t Panic About Inflation
Back in July the White House's Council of Economic Advisers posted a thoughtful article to its blog titled, "Historical Parallels to Today's Inflationary Episode." The article looked at six surges in inflation since World War II and argued persuasively that current events don't look anything like the 1970s. Instead, the closest parallel to 2021's inflation is the first of these surges, the price spike from 1946 to 1948.
Wednesday's consumer price report was ugly; inflation is running considerably hotter than many people, myself included, expected. But nothing about it contradicted C.E.A.'s analysis -- on the contrary, the similarity to early postwar inflation looks stronger than ever. What we're experiencing now is a lot more like 1947 than like 1979.
And here's what you need to know about that 1946-48 inflation spike: It was a one-time event, not the start of a protracted wage-price spiral. And the biggest mistake policymakers made in response to that inflation surge was failing to appreciate its transitory nature: They were still fighting inflation even as inflation was ceasing to be a problem, and in so doing helped bring on the recession of 1948-49.

For starters, Krugman still is demanding that this inflation is transitory, when pretty much every other economist in the United States is accepting that inflation will move well into 2022 and quite possibly beyond. We pass another 1.75 trillion dollar bill and it may last through 2024. Krugman compares this to the inflation and subsequent recession from the late 1940s.

Krugman also apparently believes that the post inflation recession from the 40's was due to Government overreaction (which I suspect he believes might happen today).  Krugman also makes it obvious that he believes that it would be a mistake to hold off on raising taxes and tossing more money into the economy with the build back better scheme. Raising taxes to fund government spending during inflation is like pouring gasoline on a fire hoping it will burn it out.

This has been Krugman's game for as long as I can remember. He takes situations that appear to work against his own economic theories and then decides that they would have worked better had they done more, reacted more like he suggests, or something to that degree.

What Krugman can never quite do is find examples of his keynesian theories actually working. Only failing because they did it wrong. But being consistently wrong is the legacy for a man who won a nobel prize in economics for an economic prediction that turned out to be flat out 180 degrees wrong.

Stephen K. Bannon Indicted for Contempt of Congress

Two Charges Filed for Failing to Honor House Subpoena From Select Committee Investigating Jan. 6 Capitol Breach

Stephen K. Bannon was indicted today by a federal grand jury on two counts of contempt of Congress stemming from his failure to comply with a subpoena issued by the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 breach of the U.S. Capitol.

Bannon, 67, is charged with one contempt count involving his refusal to appear for a deposition and another involving his refusal to produce documents, despite a subpoena from the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol. An arraignment date has not yet been set in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

“Since my first day in office, I have promised Justice Department employees that together we would show the American people by word and deed that the department adheres to the rule of law, follows the facts and the law and pursues equal justice under the law,” said Attorney General Merrick B. Garland. “Today’s charges reflect the department’s steadfast commitment to these principles.”

“As detailed in the indictment, on Sept. 23, 2021, the Select Committee issued a subpoena to Mr. Bannon,” said U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves for the District of Columbia. “The subpoena required him to appear and produce documents to the Select Committee, and to appear for a deposition before the Select Committee. According to the indictment, Mr. Bannon refused to appear to give testimony as required by subpoena and refused to produce documents in compliance with a subpoena.”

In its subpoena, the Select Committee said it had reason to believe that Bannon had information relevant to understanding events related to Jan. 6. Bannon, formerly a Chief Strategist and Counselor to the President, has been a private citizen since departing the White House in 2017.

Each count of contempt of Congress carries a minimum of 30 days and a maximum of one year in jail, as well as a fine of $100 to $1,000. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

An indictment is merely an allegation and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

The case is being investigated by the FBI’s Washington Field Office. The case is being prosecuted by the Public Corruption and Civil Rights Section of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.

WASHINGTON—Federal prosecutors have charged former Trump strategist Steve Bannon with criminal contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena from the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, marking the first such criminal case for the Justice Department in decades.

A grand jury returned a two count indictment on Friday.

The committee had subpoenaed Mr. Bannon in September for testimony and documents in connection with the events surrounding the attack, in which a pro-Trump mob sought to delay the certification of President Biden’s win in the 2020 presidential election. The panel has expressed interest in reports that Mr. Bannon encouraged former President Donald Trump and members of Congress to block the certification.

If he testifies that he directly told them to invade the Capitol building he might get indicted for Insurrection.

The indictment document itself almost immediately pointed to Bannon’s status as a “private citizen” for several years leading up to the Jan. 6 siege.

“For approximately seven months in 2017, more than three years before the events of January 6, 2021, BANNON was employed in the Executive Branch of the U.S. Government as the Chief Strategist and Counselor to the President,” the indictment says. “After departing the White House in 2017, BANNON did not work again in any Executive Branch or federal government position.”

According to the indictment, Bannon was subpoenaed to produce documents by October 7, 2021, and to “appear for a deposition before the Select Committee on October 14, 2021.” Bannon’s attorney accepted service of the subpoena on Sept. 24, 2021. The indictment explains further:

The schedule attached to the subpoena identified 17 categories of “documents and communications” that BANNON was required to produce relevant to the Select Committee’s authorized investigation of the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol.

The subpoena also included instructions for compliance with the document demand, titled, “DOCUMENT PRODUCTION DEFINITIONS AND INSTRUCTIONS.” The instructions directed that, if BANNON could not comply fully with the subpoena by the return date, he should comply “to the extent possible by that date” and provide an explanation and date certain for full compliance1, that, if BANNON withheld any documents and communications, he should provide a detailed log of which records were withheld and why; and that, upon completion of BANNON’s response to the subpoena, he should provide a written certification that a diligent search had been completed and all responsive documents had been produced.

The document continues by asserting that Bannon “did not appear before the Select Committee, did not produce documents and communications, did not provide a log of withheld records, did not request an extension of time, and did not certify that he had conducted a diligent search for responsive records” by the 10:00 a.m. deadline on Oct. 7. Per the indictment, Bannon’s attorney communicated back to Congress on the evening of Oct. 7 — “seven hours after BANNON had defaulted on the production deadline” — that President Trump had “instructed” Bannon not to cooperate:

If he directed him to break the law, he could be changed as an accessory to commit crimes.

FOX NEWS AGAIN FINDS EVERYTHING BEING WRONG WHEN A DEMOCRAT IS IN THE WHITE HOUSE

FROM TWITTER:

Fox News's shamelessly dishonest attack on President Biden
They deceptively edited a video to make it seem as though Biden said something racially insensitive, when in fact he did no such thing.

Aaron Rupar

Fox News screengrap
This morning I woke up to a number of DMs asking me why I hadn’t tweeted about a gaffe President Biden purportedly made during a speech on Thursday, when he allegedly referred to legendary baseball pitcher Satchel Paige as a “great negro.”

The comment was covered by right-wing outlets like Fox News and The Daily Wire as evidence Biden had said something racially insensitive and isn’t being held to the same standard as former President Trump. A clip of it went viral many times over on right-wing Twitter.

A DM in my inbox this morning. Nevermind the typos!
So I decided to do a bit of research.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, what I discovered is that this particular attack on Biden is as dishonest as it gets.

First, some background: Biden’s remark came during a Veterans Day speech while he was honoring former US Ambassador to Hungary Donald Blinken, an Army veteran who’s also the father of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Biden, joking about being 78 years old and the fact that Donald Blinken was celebrating his 96th birthday, said, “I’ve adopted the attitude of the great negro at the time, pitcher in the negro leagues, who went on to become a great pitcher in the pros — in Major League Baseball — after Jackie Robinson. His name was Satchel Paige.”

He continued:

"And Satchel Paige on his 47th birthday pitched a win against Chicago. And all the press went in and said, ‘Satch is amazing. Forty-seven years old. No one’s ever, ever pitched a win at age 47. How do you feel about being 47?’ He said, ‘Boys, that’s not how I look at it.’ And they said, ‘How do you look at it, Satch? And he said, ‘I look at it this way: How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you were?’"

Interpreted in context, there is absolutely nothing wrong with what Biden said. His comment about Paige being a “great negro” was merely referring to the fact that he pitched in the negro leagues.

But Fox News smelled an opportunity.

Ten months after rioters attacked the United States Capitol on Jan. 6, and after four years of a president who often spoke in violent terms about his adversaries, right-wing Republicans are talking more openly and frequently about the use of force as justifiable in opposition to those who dislodged him from power.

“In Washington, where decorum and civility are still given lip service, violent or threatening language still remains uncommon, if not unheard-of, among lawmakers who spend a great deal of time in the same building. At a conservative rally in western Idaho last month, a young man stepped up to a microphone to ask when he could start killing Democrats.

“When do we get to use the guns?” he said as the audience applauded. “How many elections are they going to steal before we kill these people?” The local state representative, a Republican, later called it a “fair” question.

In Ohio, the leading candidate in the Republican primary for Senate blasted out a video urging Republicans to resist the “tyranny” of a federal government that pushed them to wear masks and take F.D.A.-authorized vaccines.

“When the Gestapo show up at your front door,” the candidate, Josh Mandel, a grandson of Holocaust survivors, said in the video in September, “you know what to do.”

And in Congress, violent threats against lawmakers are on track to double this year. Republicans who break party ranks and defy former President Donald J. Trump have come to expect insults, invective and death threats — often stoked by their own colleagues and conservative activists, who have denounced them as traitors.

For more than two years, the Democratic-controlled House struggled to obtain crucial testimony from Trump White House counsel Donald McGahn in its Russia investigation. When he declined to submit to a subpoena, they fought it out in court. By the time an agreement was reached for McGahn to testify this year, Donald Trump was no longer in the White House, and the Russia issue had faded in both import and memories. McGahn said frequently in his testimony that he no longer fully recalled important episodes.

It was a familiar and effective tactic the Trump team deployed in the many investigations it faced: To do whatever it took to run out the clock — even if it ultimately lost in court — buying time until the issue lost both salience and political impact.

This time, though, the House and its select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol by a pro-Trump mob took a very different tack. And it resulted in both a legally and practically significant result.

Rather than try to get a court to make Bannon testify, the Jan. 6 committee instead moved quickly to recommend he be held in contempt of Congress. That put the decision into the hands of the Justice Department, which would need to decide whether to file criminal charges. But it would at least be quicker.

On Friday, this approach — an extraordinary gambit necessitated by an extraordinary effort to stymie investigators for most of the past five years — led to an extraordinary outcome: Bannon has been indicted by a federal grand jury, making him the first person charged with contempt of Congress since 1983.

While an indictment is significant — it’s actually the second time Bannon has been indicted in fewer than 15 months, with the first earning a preemptive Trump pardon — the move is less punitive than it is precedent-setting.

That 1000 acres of trees would've done more to remove CO2 from the atmosphere than those stupid fucking solar panels will ever do.

DEMONTRABLY FALSE.....ASSHOLE!!!!!!!

a similar analysis about a year ago. I found data that gave a similar order of magnitude for the amount of CO2 that northeastern forests absorb, and found that the amount of CO2 emissions avoided due to solar were well over 10x that (e.g. if you replaced an acre of forest with an acre of solar, you’d avoid a lot more emissions than the forest would have absorbed).

FBI under Biden DOJ sets precedent for raiding private homes of investigative journalists. This is a constitutional issue on First Amendment grounds.

When's the last time we heard of the @FBI raiding the home of a Washington Post journalist who for years has been illegally given classified information from FBI and CIA sources?
...
At first I thought that it was over the top to compare the FBI going after James O’Keefe with the KGB. However, when I worked in the USSR/Russia with anti-regime journalists 30 years ago, the KGB by that time had stopped raiding and arresting them. So the comparison is fair.

I told you about this in February 7th of 2020 and you said TDS TDS TDS TDS TDS TDS TDS....

New emails and documents released by a congressional committee investigating the Trump administration’s handling of the pandemic show the extent to which top White House officials interfered in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s efforts to warn Americans about Covid-19.

The House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis has conducted interviews over the last several months about how former President Donald Trump and his closest confidantes, including former White House adviser Scott Atlas and son-in-law Jared Kushner, tried to steer the course of the federal response, sidestepping the interagency process.

On Friday, the committee released emails and transcripts with former senior CDC officials about the White House’s attempts to sideline the agency at critical moments at the beginning of the U.S. outbreak.

The emails and transcripts detail how in the early days of 2020 Trump and his allies in the White House blocked media briefings and interviews with CDC officials, attempted to alter public safety guidance normally cleared by the agency and instructed agency officials to destroy evidence that might be construed as political interference.

The documents further underscore how Trump appointees tried to undermine the work of scientists and career staff at the CDC to control the administration’s messaging on the spread of the virus and the dangers of transmission and infection.

Portraying January 6 as “unprecedented” is not an accident; it justifies extra-constitutional, judicial, and legislative action under the guise that nothing like this has ever happened before and that language will rationalize future measures to make sure it never happens again. Nothing is off the table as the Biden regime, Beltway judges, and the media seek to avenge an “unprecedented” protest in a government building where the only people killed were Trump supporters, including at least one by a federal police officer.

More people were watching Fox news for real news than watch the fake shit over at CNN and MSNBC combined. CNN cannot even get a million people to watch "any" show they have. Out of 330 million, they cannot even get a million.

Why? Because nobody trusts them.

They lied about a thousand times regarding Russian collusion. They pushed giant conspiracies after giant conspiracy. They literally made up shit out of thin air.

And somehow you believe that FOX news is the bad players because of what exactly? I actually watched the video ON FOX when I first heard about it and it was the complete quote. That he was the "great negro in the negro league" which is exactly what he said. So who knows what video they are even talking about? Did someone cut it short? He said great negro in the negro league.

The Hippocratic Oath And Medical Ethics Versus COVID Mandates

By Jeff M. Lewis. Not S.Scott Johnson MD schizophrenia

I am not a medical professional and am wholly unqualified to give medical advice. I can, nonetheless, reason and observe. It is my belief that people of good will, interacting with one another in good faith, will not be prone to cause one another harm.

Sadly, our elected government, with its appointed institutions and agencies cannot be deemed to be acting in either good will or good faith with We the People. Instead, we are witnessing only their desire to “mandate” what our behavior and our care should be in the battle to manage an endemic SARS-CoV-2 virus and its inevitable mutations.

These people who deign to be our rulers and betters have lost their way. They have completely decoupled themselves from constitutional government and the sound medical ethic to “do no harm.”

Given that a pandemic has been raging across the globe these issues surrounding “good” medicine and governance are obviously a concern. Also given the morass of government agencies that have not guided us in an effective response, there are instead greater levels of fear, distrust, and frustration among our fellow citizens.

Scarring people has been the basic strategy for centuries

Negro League Baseball got its start thanks to the increasing popularity of two things after the Civil War: baseball and segregation. The National Association of Amateur Base Ball Players rejected African American membership in 1867, and in 1876, owners of the professional National League adopted a “gentleman’s agreement” to keep Black players out. Subsequent African American players found their greatest opportunities with traveling teams until 1920, when Rube Foster launched the Negro National League. Reformulated several times with new leagues and owners, Negro League baseball enjoyed periods of success in the early 1920s and again after the Great Depression. However, Jackie Robinson’s integration of baseball in 1947 prompted a slow but irreversible influx of talent to the majors, and the remaining Negro League teams generally folded by the 1960s.

When going into a lengthy description of the Negro League it refers to it's players as blacks or African Americans.

Not as negro which is what Biden did.

And to deflect that his comments were shortened in the edited video (leaving out the normal Biden stuttering and stammering) was done without changing the context of what was important, the use of a racist word, or so the left has claimed it is. And the left erupted on seeing it from all sources, not just Fox. The single word was what they considered important.

And talking of editing, the POS "pastor" continuously posts a stream of edited and sliced comments from Goddard's political-lire taken from other sources, without mentioning Goddard has done the editing or providing a link, just mentioning the party originally used as a source.

What a hypocritical POS "pastor" with his FAKE outrage.
