Why is Biden's approvals so low? Because he never takes responsibility

If you refuse to take responsibility, you literally cannot fix anything

Pinkerton: Carter 2.0 — Biden Blames Others for His Own Energy Failures
Joe Biden is the gift that keeps on giving. The gift, that is, of parallels with fellow Democrat Jimmy Carter. Most Americans have no memories of the actual Carter presidency, from 1977 to 1981, but this Baby Boomer sure does. As for you youngins, you can can look him up, and you’ll see too: He was terrible in office. So terrible, in fact, that when he ran for re-election in 1980, he was thunderously defeated, losing to Ronald Reagan by almost ten points in the popular vote and by 489 to 49 in the electoral college.
Yes, Carter was that bad. So it might seem strange that Biden seems to have chosen Carter as a role model. He is replicating, for instance, Carter’s policies on regulatory contraction and, at the same time, price inflation. Yes, it’s a strange emulation, and yet here we are in the early 2020s, replaying the late 1970s.
President Biden asked the Federal Trade Commission on Wednesday to consider whether “illegal conduct” by large oil and gas companies is pushing up gasoline prices for American consumers, the latest effort by the administration to target concentration in the energy industry in a bid to bring down prices at the pump.
That’s a loaded phrase, “illegal conduct.” So now Biden is applying the same sort of demagogic judge-in-advance tactic that he applied to his own federal border patrol agents in Texas, or to Kyle Rittenhouse in Wisconsin. He’s telling telling Federal Trade Commission (FTC) chair Lina Khan that he sees “mounting evidence of anti-consumer behavior by oil and gas companies.” In the world of the FTC, these are potential crimes that Biden is alleging.

Americans do not want to hear the President tell us that someone else is the villain. If it is not a 17 year old boy who shot three criminals in self-defense, or parents who are concerned with their children's curriculum, it's now big oil who must be "breaking the law".

Obviously it couldn't possibly be the fact that the United States went from exporting oil, to having to rely on the Middle East and other hostile nations for their supply. He wasted strategic oil reserves that has no real ability to affect gas prices even short term, much less long term. He has not other real clue as to what to do, as a government cannot "force" gas prices to fall with an executive order.

The problem is that there is no easy solution here. Only an outright admission that everything he has done regarding energy has been wrong and that he should reinstate all of Trump's policies (as he is currently being forced to do in several other situations) would save us at this point. Anything short of a total reversal will end in failure and likely a single term.

Republicans Will Probably Blow Their Chance
November 28, 2021 at 12:15 pm EST By Taegan Goddard 15 Comments

Ross Douthat: “Republicans have a lot to be thankful for.
In the years since George W. Bush their party has staggered around without a governing ideology,
veering from one style of fantasy politics to another,
and twice nominated a ridiculously unfit reality-television star for the presidency.

Yet through it all the party has never collapsed,
never fallen more than a little distance out of power
and almost always retained a certain capacity to block the Democrats,
which is the only thing its constituencies can agree on.

“This pattern seems unlikely to be broken even if Biden’s poll numbers bounce back across 2022 and 2023.

In that scenario Republicans will still probably narrowly recapture the House of Representatives, returning to the position that they held immediately after last November’s election — as a minority coalition, but a large one rather than a rump, which thanks to its structural advantages can always hope to hold at least part of Congress and ride a few lucky breaks into the White House.

“But in a way, that advantage is also the core Republican weakness, and the party’s good fortune in avoiding profound punishment for all its follies is the reason those follies will probably continue.”

AND PROFOUND PUNISHMENT IS WAITING IMPATIENTLY IN THE WINGS.

The party is now in the process of carrying out purges of heretics who do not worship Trump or accept all the tenets of MAGA. Conformity is enforced by social media, a relatively new institution with the power to marshal populist energy against critics and opponents.

If Trump does run in 2024, as he seems inclined to do, can he win?

Fauci says lies, threats are 'noise'Cohen says Weisselberg not 'key' to Trump case

It all depends on President Biden’s record. Right now, Biden’s popularity is not very high. In fact, Biden and Trump are about equally unpopular (Biden’s job approval is 52 to 43 percent negative, while Trump’s favorability is 54 to 41.5 percent negative). Biden will be 82 years old in 2024. If he doesn’t run, the Democrats will very likely nominate Vice President Harris. When a president doesn’t run for reelection, his party almost always nominates its most recent vice president, assuming they run (Richard Nixon in 1960, Hubert Humphrey in 1968, Walter Mondale in 1984, George H.W. Bush in 1988, Al Gore in 2000, Joe Biden in 2020). Democrats would be unlikely to deny a black woman the nomination. There is also some talk of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg running if Biden doesn’t.

The 2024 election could be a rematch between Trump and Biden. Or a race between Trump and a black woman. Or between Trump and a gay man with a husband and children. Lee Drutman, a political scientist at the New America think tank, recently told The New York Times, “I have a hard time seeing how we have a peaceful 2024 election after everything that’s happened now. I don’t see the rhetoric turning down. I don’t see the conflicts going away. ... It’s hard to see how it gets better before it gets worse.”

Bill Schneider is an emeritus professor at the Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University

A mixed race Presidential candidate like Harris and a gay man against Trump would get really ugly..

But I surmise that the authorities decided that the populace was becoming complacent and insufficiently biddable, since just a few days ago the latest “out of Africa” miracle was announced: a newer, even scarier-sounding version dubbed the “omicron variant.”

Unless you live in South Africa (and even if you do), there is no need to panic. Zero cases have been reported in the United States. Various companies are lining up with novel vaccines and new treatments. But if you are bored, then by all means, panic. The market did, falling by more than 900 points Friday.

Of course, the market was long overdue for a correction, and Friday’s 2.3 percent retreat doesn’t even count as a correction. Still, it has some people spooked, and it will be interesting to see what next week brings.

One thing it has already brought is an executive order by Kathy Hochul, the suffect governor of New York, who just forbade elective hospital surgeries in New York, just as bad boy Cuomo did when he was busy packing the nursing homes with COVID patients, and consequently then the morgues, with your grandparents.

Are we really going to do this again? Somehow, I doubt it. But we’ll see. The hankering of the people in charge to interfere with your freedom is almost as reliable as the avidity with which many people are determined to relinquish their freedom in order to bathe in the warm bath of dependency. This is where we cue the quotation from H. L. Mencken about no one going broke by underestimating the intelligence of the American people.

And it’s not just Americans, of course, as Austrians, Australians, Canadians, and others also show.

But let’s go back to Juliet’s famous question: what’s in a name? Is it true that a rose by any other name would smell as sweet? How about a virus? A week or so back, we were faced with the “Mu” variant. Now, suddenly, we’re clobbered with the “omicron” nodule. If we’re traipsing through the Greek alphabet, what about “Ξ”?  According to the AP, the World Health Organization skipped N—“nu”—“for clarity”—so as not to confuse it with “new.”  It skipped  Ξ “to avoid causing offense generally.”

There’s the rub. For “Ξ” is transliterated “Xi,” and the World Health Organization, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Chinese Communist Party, is not about to start naming diseases after the Great Pooh Bear of Beijing, Xi Jinping.

The companies are not being "investigated for criminal conduct" as Ch in his usual word salad way distorts the situation.

They are being investigated for WHETHER they are engaging in criminal conduct.

Try telling the American public that a President should not look into that, for the sake of possible illegality in abusing the public's trust and welfare.

US Consumer Sales Surge As Biden Economy Defies GOP Predictions

Retail sales across the U.S. economy in October slightly beat expectations, setting an apparent all-time record for the amount of money spent by U.S. consumers in that context within a single month. It’s clear: there is no sign of the new economic calamity that ex-President Trump and others predicted would befall the United States if Biden took office. Instead, Biden and his Democratic allies in Congress are continuing their work to push past Republican opposition and enact substantively uplifting policies for the American people.

The total amount spent by U.S. consumers at stores and restaurants across the month of October hit $638 billion, marking a 1.7 percent increase, from the previous month. Per Dow Jones, economists expected the month-to-month increase to be at just 1.5 percent for October. The New York Times notes that the “continued strength of consumer spending reflects the resilience of the U.S. economy after a year and a half of disruptions, and the success of the government’s economic response in insulating many families from the damage,” adding that overall, households “have trillions of dollars more in accumulated savings than before the crisis.”

Bidenomics is great news for Americans of all races and ages kputz.

CIA releases detailed report about what it was like to give Trump infrequent 'presidential daily briefing'

Sarah K. Burris

November 28, 2021

The CIA released the latest chapter of the ongoing history of Presidential briefings, Micah Zenko tweeted over the weekend. According to the information provided by the U.S. spy agency, Trump didn't much care about national security, while Vice President Mike Pence did the "daily briefing" six days a week. Previous reports cited anonymous sources, but the CIA report detailed the specifics on the record. The report went even deeper into what agents experienced, noting Trump's rants and other issues.

By the time that the 2020 election rolled around, Beth Sanner was the one briefing Trump. The so-called PDB, "Presidential Daily Briefing," actually only took place twice a week under Trump and lasted about 45 minutes, with the overwhelming majority involving Trump's ranting.

"Even during times when President Trump publicly expressed great irritation with the IC—most notably in 2019 when an IC employee filed a whistle-blower complaint concerning the president's efforts to have Ukraine investigate a political opponent, Joe Biden—briefings continued as usual and Trump' s demeanor during the sessions remained the same," said the report. "After the 2020 election, PDB briefings also continued for a period of time. When Sanner briefed the president before he went to Mar-a-Lago for the holidays, he commented that he would see her later. The briefings were to resume on 6 January but none were scheduled after the attack on the Capitol."

By contrast, Pence so regularly held a "presidential daily briefing" that he had briefers to his home and gave them a commemorative medallion as a gift. They offered him a certificate of appreciation as he left office, the report continued.

The report also confessed that no briefing was as bad as Trump's other than Nixon.

"For the Intelligence Community, the Trump transition was far and away the most difficult in its historical experience with briefing new presidents,". The only (and imperfect) analogue was the Nixon transition, when the president-elect effectively declined to work with the IC, electing, instead, to receive intelligence information through an intermediary, National Security Advisor-designate Henry Kissinger," the report also explained. "Trump was like Nixon, suspicious and insecure about the intelligence process, but unlike Nixon in the way he reacted. Rather than shut the IC out, Trump engaged with it, but attacked it publicly."

James Clapper also wrote in his book about Trump's inability to focus during briefings as a candidate. After taking over the White House, Clapper left and Trump brought in his own team.

"Clapper recalled, Trump was prone to 'fly off on tangents; there might be eight or nine minutes of real intelligence in an hour's discussion,'" the report recalled. "The irreconcilable difference, in Clapper's view, was that the IC worked with evidence. Trump 'was 'fact-free'—evidence doesn't cut it with him.'

You dipshit hack. You're too stupid and ignorant to understand "boosters" are simply a lower dose version of the same vaccine.

So if original vaccines were "ineffective" then the booster will be ineffective.

They weren't. Biden didn't marshal a national effort to produce a booster (he didn't have to, the booster was already developed). The way Trump did.

When you think of it, what Trump did was nothing short of a miracle.

In less than 12 months they went gene sequencing to three safe and effective vaccines ready for distribution. This is a process that usually takes 4 to 6 years.

Trump did this by streamlining the approval process and to pre-order the vaccines. And then coordinate distribution of the vaccine through the supply chain.

There hasn't been that sort of mobilization since WWII.

All Biden did was take credit for a vaccine he told Americans he didn't trust.

Morning news

Stock futures pointed to a rebound following Friday’s big sell-off, as investors monitor the latest developments related to the Covid omicron variant and assess its potential market impact.

Futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 215 points, or 0.6%. S&P 500 futures added 0.8% and Nasdaq 100 futures rose about 1%.

Stocks are coming off a holiday-shortened session Friday in which the Dow posted its worst day since October 2020. The Dow was down 905 points, or 2.5%. The S&P 500 tumbled 2.3% and the Nasdaq Composite slipped 2.2%. The three major indexes were negative for the week.

The World Health Organization on Friday labeled the omicron strain a “variant of concern.” While scientists continue to research the variant, omicron’s large number of mutations has raised alarm. Preliminary evidence suggests the strain has an increased risk of reinfection, according to the WHO. The variant was first reported to the WHO from South Africa and has been found in the U.K., Israel, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Australia and Hong Kong, but not yet in the U.S. Many countries, including the U.S., moved to restrict travel from southern Africa.

The South African doctor who first raised the alarm over the new variant told the BBC that patients had “extremely mild” symptoms though it was too early to determine how omicron behaves before it is studied closely.

“While it is too early to have definitive data, early reported data suggest that the Omicron virus causes ‘mild to moderate’ symptoms (less severity) and is more transmissible,” Bill Ackman of Pershing Square Capital Management tweeted Sunday evening. “If this turns out to be true, this is bullish not bearish for markets.”

Stocks that were the hardest hit on Friday were rebounding the most on Monday.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?
GET VACCINATED

IT IS THE USUAL CHunTruth BS.

AS I SAID:
They are being investigated for WHETHER they are engaging in criminal conduct.

CH DANCES ABOUT BY SAYING:
Which is basically you find me the person and I will find you the crime. Something that is technically considered unconstitutional.

I SAY:
No, it is basically look for the possibility of crime. Ch seems to think you have to KNOW someone has committed crime before you can investigate whether they have.
Nonsense.

CH DANCES ABOUT:
What exactly are they going to "investigate". They cannot get any warrants to garner any paperwork. They cannot get subpoenas for any testimony. They have zero authority to do any actual investigation without "probable cause of a crime".

I SAY:
As the investigation proceeds, if it begins to appear "probable" that crimes have been committed, warrants and subpoenas can be can be approved by the courts and issued.

CH SAYS:
So just tell us, Reverend. What exactly is the President doing here?

I SAY:
On behalf of the public, the President is asking the Federal Trade Commission to consider whether “illegal conduct” is being pursued by them and other oil and gas companies in an illegal attempt to push up gasoline prices.

CH SAYS:
What does this "non-investigation investigation" actually look like to you?

I SAY:
Again, Ch seems to think you cannot investigate unless you already KNOW, rather than just want to inquire, about the possibility that criminal activity may have been going on.

CH SAYS:
Because it sounds to me like he is simply trying to make people like you believe he is doing something (when in fact he is just randomly passing the buck and pointing fingers).

I SAY:
Well, if such an investigation shows there is no criminality taking place, the oil and gas companies have been exonerated and the public will be served by knowing that. But if criminal activity has been taking place, steps can be taken to reverse it and penalize those who did it and bring prices down and the public will be served by doing that.

In a historical comparison between a leader of a Democratic Republic and an Authoritarian Government is very apparent.

The issue of a running mate, advisers and allies say, has taken on a new dimension in Trump’s mind as he stews over his decision to pick Pence in 2016, only to watch the vice president help certify the election of Joe Biden as president in January. Though it was Pence’s legal responsibility, Trump considered him disloyal and recently went so far as to say it was “common sense” that the Jan. 6 Capitol rioters chanted “hang Mike Pence.”

The considerations that led Trump to name Pence as his ticket mate in 2016 — an evangelical conservative, Pence was a Rust Belt governor at the time of his selection — are no longer as relevant, Trump’s advisers say. They say Trump is far more likely to go with his gut instinct next time around. Trump partly relied on his daughter and son-in-law, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, during the selection process last time, but the two are not expected to play the same role if he runs in 2024.

“Once you get past those two issues — loyalty and Trump going more with his gut — Trump has a lot of leeway in who he would pick,” said Tony Fabrizio, Trump’s lead pollster in 2016 and 2020

THE HILL
President Biden is asking the head of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to look into whether oil companies are illegally increasing prices as consumers face high costs at the pump.

"The Federal Trade Commission has authority to consider whether illegal conduct is costing families at the pump. I believe you should do so immediately," Biden wrote in a letter to FTC Chairwoman Lina Khan on Wednesday.

"Prices at the pump have continued to rise, even as refined fuel costs go down and industry profits go up," he added. "In the last month, the price of unfinished gasoline is down more than 5 percent while gas prices at the pump are up 3 percent in that same period. This unexplained large gap between the price of unfinished gasoline and the average price at the pump is well above the pre-pandemic average."

Biden said that oil and gas companies in the U.S. are generating significant profits from the higher cost of energy, noting that two of the largest oil and gas companies in the U.S. are on track to nearly double their net income over 2019.

“They have announced plans to engage in billions of dollars of stock buybacks and dividends this year or next,” he wrote.

Gas prices rose 6.1 percent in October, according to the Labor Department, with prices about 24 percent higher than they were during the same month in 2019.

“The bottom line is this: gasoline prices at the pump remain high, even though oil and gas companies’ costs are declining,” the president wrote.

Biden has caught flak from Republicans over gas prices, which are rising ahead of the holiday season, when Thanksgiving travel is expected to return to near pre-pandemic levels. Republicans have focused on the issue especially heading into next year's midterm elections.

Still, many of the factors impacting gasoline prices — such as global oil production — are out of a president’s control. Currently, a group of oil-producing countries and their allies, known as OPEC+, are steadily increasing their oil production, though the U.S. has urged them to do so more rapidly.

In August, Biden urged OPEC+ to boost oil output as a way to combat rising gas prices and national security adviser Jake Sullivan at the time was critical of big drilling countries for their insufficient crude production during the global recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Politico reports

The last time Donald Trump picked a running mate, he made a conventional choice in Mike Pence — a relatively safe decision with traditional presidential ticket-balancing in mind.

But as Trump gears up for a 2024 bid to recapture the White House, the nascent thinking at Mar-a-Lago surrounding his potential vice president is considerably different. According to conversations with a dozen Trump advisers and close associates, the former president doesn’t feel bound by geographic or ideological considerations — or any standard political rules at all.

“They’re all begging me. They all come here,” Trump boasted to one adviser, who shared the account anonymously with POLITICO.

The issue of a running mate, advisers and allies say, has taken on a new dimension in Trump’s mind as he stews over his decision to pick Pence in 2016, only to watch the vice president help certify the election of Joe Biden as president in January. 'They're all begging me': Trump auditions potential 2024 running mates with Mar-A-Lago loyalty tests

Travis Gettys

November 29, 2021

Donald Trump is auditioning potential 2024 running mates through both public comments and private meetings, and he's less bound by political rules than the last time he chose Mike Pence to be his vice president.

A dozen Trump advisers and close associates told Politico the twice-impeached one-term president is prioritizing unquestioned personal loyalty and the embrace of his election fraud lies, although he's giving some consideration to balancing the ticket with a woman or candidate of color.

“Once you get past those two issues — loyalty and Trump going more with his gut — Trump has a lot of leeway in who he would pick,” said Tony Fabrizio, Trump’s top pollster in 2016 and 2020. “He's not necessarily looking to balance the ticket geographically, but what he can do is pick to balance gender, race, ethnicity — a lot of different lanes there. It could be everything from a Tim Scott in South Carolina to an Asian American in California, somebody Hispanic in Texas. There are so many choices and paths and there’s lots of time to go.”

Trump recently met with Scott, the first Black senator to be elected in the South since Reconstruction, at his Mar-A-Lago resort, where he also has entertained his former secretary of state Mike Pompeo, and he has mentioned Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as a possible running mate -- although sources suspect that was done to keep the potential 2024 challenger in his place.

READ: Marco Rubio's path to the White House is becoming more complicated -- if not impossible

“Trump feels he made DeSantis," said one Trump adviser. "Trump sees him as a competitor, and he’s not going to have someone with better numbers."

Some advisers are pushing for Florida Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez as a possible running mate, and Trump also has reportedly considered Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds and Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) as options to boost his chances with women voters, although Nikki Haley and South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem both have fallen out of favor with the former president and his inner circle.

“They’re all begging me," Trump told one adviser, who passed along the anecdote to Politico. "They all come here."

Trump likes the idea of choosing a vice presidential candidate who could serve as a loyal adviser, now that his relationship with Pence has been tainted over Jan. 6, and he may choose Mark Meadows, the White House chief of staff he huddled with on that day to run alongside him.

Personal loyalty is all that matters to Trump.

The former White House doctor who raved about Donald Trump’s “excellent” health to a skeptical public is now claiming that the disturbing new COVID-19 variant omicron is nothing but a midterm election ploy by the Democrats.

Dr. Ronny Jackson, now a Republican MAGA congressman from Texas, scoffed at the variant the World Health Organization has deemed “highly transmissible” and “concerning.”

“Here comes the ... Midterm Election Variant!” Jackson quipped in a tweet Saturday, calling it nothing more than a trick to “push unsolicited nationwide mail-in ballots.”

Dr. Jonathan Reiner, a professor of medicine and surgery at George Washington University, lashed Jackson on CNN Sunday for dangerously spreading outrageous misinformation about COVID-19.

He blamed people like Jackson as the reason 50 million people have yet to be vaccinated in America, and people continue to die.

The continuing COVID toll is due to “people like Ronny Jackson, people who doubt the severity of this pandemic, people who have doubted the consequences of not getting vaccinated, people who have doubted the efficacy of masks,” Reiner told Jim Acosta.

Stuff That Needs To Be Said

Of Course Donald Trump Isn’t a Christian

Enough is enough.

Even in the early days of the Presidential campaign it was a ludicrous idea: that Donald Trump was now a Christian; that he’d miraculously “found Jesus” right at the time he needed to pull in millions of Evangelical voters. Never mind that his life showed an open contempt for most of the things the Jesus of the Gospels lived and preached: humility, generosity, respect, empathy, kindness, peace.

The high profile-evangelists in his corner assured their rightly alarmed flocks, that behind the scenes Donnie was changed man, a “baby Christian” who’d now seen the light and was making his way down the narrow road of faith to lead us all to the Promised Land (where curiously America was first and everyone was white.)

Sure, he was on his third marriage and was heard on video boasting of his infidelity to his current wife.
Yes, he said he could grab a woman by the genitalia.
Yes, he advocated that protesters at his rallies be “roughed up.”
Sure, he made fun of a disabled man.
Certainly, he talked about walling off Mexicans and banning Muslims and taking away healthcare—but Donnie loved Jesus now, so all should be well with our souls.

The opportunistic religious leaders began publicly framing the vile, profane, relentlessly offensive Trump as a flawed, imperfect tool of God‚ and American church folk raised on a faith of fear and conditioned to believe they are perpetually in danger—began buying it. Little by little, it became okay, even sensible to call Donald Trump a Christian. (Talk about a miracle.)

And for someone who has served as a pastor for twenty years, the transformation was astounding and disheartening to witness. Millions of fundamentalists who’d previously spent their days parsing out Bible verses to condemn the LGBTQ community, Muslims, entertainers, Atheists, Democrats, suddenly became a people of Grace. They got really liberal with the Scriptures. They lectured those of us who questioned it all “not to judge lest we be judged”, and heaped shame upon us for bringing up example after example of the man’s hypocrisy, because “God looks at the heart” and how dare we assess another’s professed faith. (Somehow these things were never in play over the eight years they spent daily crucifying Barack Obama, but perhaps the issue there was one not of religion, but of pigmentation.)

But this far into Donald Trump’s tenure, Christians need to speak the truth that sets them free:
Donald Trump is not a Christian. He can do every ceremonial, photo-op Bible Study he wants.

Yes, he may have shown up in a church during the campaign (looking as comfortable as a cow in a slaughterhouse),
and he may have given some lip service prayer to one of his preacher pals while golfing,
and he may have bamboozled scores of Christians already dying to believe it so they could make peace with their vote—but he is not a man following Jesus.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

In his Sermon on the Mount, Jesus speaks these words:

“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.” Mt 5:15-20

Jesus says that we can judge people. We should evaluate the things we can see. We can measure devotion to God by what is manifested outwardly. We look at the “fruit”.

What is the fruit of Donald Trump’s life, of his marriages, his business dealings, his campaign, of his Presidency?

What is the fruit of eliminating healthcare for tens of millions of poor people?

What is the fruit of tear-gassing refugees and separating their families?

What is the fruit of walling off Mexico and demanding they pay for the gesture?
What is the fruit of driving an oil pipeline through sacred Native American land?

What is the fruit of filling your Cabinet with billionaires?

What is the fruit of demonizing and banning Muslims?

What is the fruit of appointing a white supremacist to the highest level of government?

It’s rotten fruit, that’s what it is.

It’s exactly the kind of greedy, bloated, bitter, violent, self-centered, myopic existence that Jesus spent his life calling us to reject.

So no, I don’t know the President’s heart or his inner confession of faith, but I have eyes and they see no love or benevolence or compassion—and that does matter to Jesus.

Christians need to stop insisting that Donald Trump is a Christian if they really care at all about people coming to know Christ. If that is the greatest burden on their hearts, using this man is tantamount to spiritual treason. It is a perversion of the Gospels that provides such a dissonance to the bystander, as to make Christ all but invisible. Until he says or does anything that remotely resembling him, we need to stop using him and Jesus in the same breath because it distorts Jesus by association.

Christian, you can continue to support this man,
but don’t say you’re doing it because he is a man of God,
a follower of Jesus,
someone striving for Christlikeness.
The putrid, stinking fruit of his life—says otherwise.

Jesus matters to me. The words he said matter to me. The life he calls us to live matters. Incarnating this Jesus in people’s lives matters to me. This is why that word Christian still matters. I am also a person of Grace, but I also live in a reality where the stuff we do is connected to what we believe.

I don’t know Donald Trump. He may actually believe he is a Christian. He may be so surrounded by sycophants and religious yes-men that no one is giving him the hard words about the kind of gentle, loving, sacrificial life Jesus called his people to live.

If that’s the case I hope that he, like Saul will have a moment where his eyes are opened and he sees the goodness he might do with the power and influence at his disposal—and he is changed. But right now, using him as a symbol of the Christian faith is catastrophic for people looking on.

Christian, you might be tempted to argue with me or attack my position, and you would be welcome to, but I’d first suggest you go and read the Sermon on the Mount, spend some time in reflection and prayer—and then look with fresh eyes and tell me where you see Jesus in this man’s life and why you’re okay claiming it as your own.

Omicron Is Feeding the Republican Conspiracy Beast

November 29, 2021 at 8:53 am EST By Taegan Goddard 20 Comments

Jonathan Bernstein: “Normal political parties are dominated by the electoral incentive. Politicians want to win and then retain office; campaign professionals want to win to improve their reputations and, perhaps, to reap financial rewards; governing professionals want to win so that they can govern; activists and donors want to win so that they can influence policy, and in some cases because they, too, want jobs when their party is in office. With almost all individual incentives running that way, the party collectively comes to place a high priority on winning.”

“But party-aligned media do not necessarily share that incentive. Being out of office is good for business because negative partisanship means more viewers and more clicks when there’s an opposite-party president to dislike. Normally, party-aligned media aren’t important enough within a party for their commercial interests to overwhelm the party’s political ones, so its members tend to follow the lead of politicians and campaign professionals, both because access to them is important and because party actors generally adopt the goal of winning elections.”

“However, as we’ve seen lately with the Republican Party, the more central party-aligned media become within the overall party, the less important winning becomes.”

Maybe he took step one!

Explainer-U.S. gasoline prices could fall below $3 if oil market sustains losses

Laura Sanicola

November 29, 2021, 3:06 am

By Laura Sanicola

(Reuters) - U.S. motorists could see gasoline prices fall below $3.00 a gallon in the coming weeks after crude futures posted their steepest losses since April 2020 on Friday as a new coronavirus variant threatened to extend the pandemic.

A further fall in pump prices from seven-year year highs hit in October would take some of the heat out of U.S. inflation, which rose at its fastest in 31 years in October. The surge, in part due to soaring fuel costs, damaged the popularity of U.S. President Joe Biden.

The global market's reaction to the newly discovered Omicron variant is likely to affect U.S. gasoline prices more than the coordinated release of crude from major consuming countries' strategic reserves orchestrated by Biden and announced last week.

The reimposition of air travel restrictions is already hitting fuel demand. The full impact will depend on the extent of mobility restrictions imposed to counter the variant as governments weigh lockdowns to stop its spread.

Gasoline prices were expected to decrease anyway in the coming weeks, largely due to lower demand for fuel in the winter months due to colder weather and shorter days, according to Tom Kloza, global head of energy analysis at the Oil Price Information Service (OPIS).

If the oil prices drop off and the economy continues to grow at historically outstanding speed, Sleepy Joe Biden's approval ratings will rise from record lows.

Jack Dorsey is expected to step down from his role as CEO of Twitter, CNBC reports.
Shares of the social media company jumped more than 10% in early trading following the news.

Jack Dorsey is expected to step down as the CEO of Twitter, CNBC reported Monday, citing unnamed sources.

Bloomberg News and Reuters also reported on his planned exit, citing sources familiar with the situation who said a successor had already been chosen by the company's board of directors.

Twitter did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

Shares of the social network jumped as much as 10% in early trading following CNBC's report before retreating slightly. Twitter's stock has largely underperformed benchmark indexes over the past year.

Dorsey became CEO of Twitter in 2006 before being booted in 2008. He became CEO again in 2015 when he stood up his digital payments company, Square, which is now worth more than double Twitter.

Twitter investor Elliott Management sought to replace Dorsey in early 2020, citing his dual-CEO roles at Twitter and Square as a potential risk, but nothing ever materialized from the threat.

Dorsey, alongside some of his Silicon Valley peers, has navigated the so-called techlash of the early aughts and began appearing before Congress, notably in a September 2018 hearing. Dorsey was grilled by lawmakers over alleged anti-conservative bias.

He also answered to lawmakers in an October 2020 Congressional hearing about Section 230, an internet law that shields tech platforms from being liable for the content they post online.

The hearing came after Twitter banned a dubious New York Post article purporting to show connections between now-President Joe Biden's son and Ukraine. The move angered many conservatives, who routinely tout a disproven conspiracy that social media platforms are hellbent on silencing them.

Dorsey is known in the tech world for his eyebrow-raising eating habits, signature beard, and advocacy for bitcoin.

"I love Twitter," Dorsey tweeted in the early morning hours of Sunday.

As long as they can keep Donald Trump in front of everyone's eyes as a sort of "star," they will fare well financially,m no matter what happens to the GOP.

The Doom of the GOP will not matter, as long as it contributes to Fox's own financial business enrichment.

As John Pavlovitz (not I) says
and as Jesus (not I) said:
________

What is the fruit of Donald Trump’s life...

Voters turning away from Biden and Democrats as inflation and pandemic persist, polls show

President Joe Biden and the Democrats in Congress are in political free fall as key voting blocs conclude that the majority party in Washington is ignoring their most pressing problems.

Biden’s job approval rating had nosedived to near 40% as the annual holiday season commenced, with Republicans taking the lead in generic-ballot polling gauging which party voters would prefer be in charge on Capitol Hill

Chinese energy firm chairman gifted Hunter Biden an $80,000 diamond after he agreed to help expand the business by making 'introductions' for $10MILLION a year

A new book, Laptop from Hell, claims that Hunter Biden helped expand Chinese influence in America for $10 million a year and an $80,000 diamond

In her book, Miranda Devine claims that James Gillar, a former SAS officer, recommended Ye Jianming, the chairman of CEFC China, link up with the Bidens
He reportedly connected Ye with Hunter Biden through family friend Rob Walker

Gillar then reportedly enlisted Tony Bobulinski's help in setting up a Chinese joint venture, later revealing it's for Hunter Biden and CEFC China
To seal the deal, Devine claims, Ye offered Hunter $10 million a year for three years and sent him a diamond worth $80,000

Shortly after, $6 million was wired into Rob Walker's accounts, which the Department of Treasury deemed 'suspicious'

Hunter soon reportedly received regular payments from Walker's business

Real economic experts are saying the same thing I have been saying for months.

Not That Seventies Inflation
Nov 26, 2021
JEFFREY FRANKEL
In contrast to the stagflationary 1970s, the US recovery since the pandemic-induced recession has been strong, whether judged by GDP or labor-market indicators. Today’s economic conditions therefore recall the late 1960s, another time of rapid growth and moderately rising inflation.

CAMBRIDGE – Are the United States and other advanced economies experiencing stagflation, the unfortunate combination of high inflation and low growth in output and employment that characterized the mid-1970s? At least in America’s case, the answer is no. What the US is facing now is moderate inflation, without the stagnation part. That recalls the 1960s, not the decade that followed.

True, US headline consumer price inflation rose to an unexpected 6.2% in the year to October, the highest rate since 1991. Few still forecast an early return to 2% inflation, the US Federal Reserve’s long-run target. Inflation is also running at ten-year highs in the United Kingdom (4.2%) and the European Union (4.4%), though it remains low in Japan.

In contrast to the stagflationary 1970s, however, the US recovery since the pandemic-induced recession of 2020 has been strong, judged by GDP and labor-market indicators. Rising demand for goods is confronting supply constraints, including port bottlenecks and chip shortages, resulting in price inflation. Meanwhile, rising demand for labor is encountering a supply of labor limited by the lingering effects of the pandemic. This has resulted in wage inflation.

The US unemployment rate fell from 14.8% in April 2020 to 4.6% in October 2021, which would have been considered close to full employment during most of the last half-century. By contrast, unemployment reached 9% in stagflationary May 1975. Other current indicators point to an even tighter labor market today: the ratio of job vacancies to unemployed workers is the highest on record, as is the quit rate. Wage growth is also up, especially at the lower end of the wage distribution.

Only labor-force participation remains substantially depressed. Some of the decline reflects retirements, but much of it is attributable to COVID-19.

The evidence suggests that the US economy’s problem is not insufficient demand, which monetary and fiscal expansion could address, but rather inadequate supply, which they cannot. In particular, both nominal GDP and direct measures of domestic demand, like real personal spending or retail sales, have resumed their long-term pre-pandemic trends. When demand exceeds supply, a trade deficit and inflation result. We are currently witnessing both.

These are, in a sense, good problems to have. It is clearly better if both demand and supply are recovering, albeit with demand rebounding more quickly, than for neither to be doing so. The US economy is far ahead of where most thought it would be a year ago. It is also ahead of other countries, such as the Brexit-impacted UK, insofar as GDP is now above its pre-pandemic level.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Monetary policy can do nothing to ease capacity constraints. But these constraints could disappear on their own over the next year, as ports unclog, supply chains re-form, choosier workers successfully match with jobs they want, and supply responds to the high prices of those particular sectors facing acute excess demand.

Rather than resembling the 1970s, therefore, today is perhaps more like the late 1960s, another time of rapid growth and tight labor markets. Consumer inflation reached 5.5% in 1969.

Some worry that today’s moderate inflation will eventually be built into expectations, trigger a wage-price spiral, and come to resemble the high and persistent inflation of the 1970s. This is not impossible, and we should not be complacent about inflation. But it is unlikely that policymakers will repeat mistakes made back then.

Those errors began with increasing government spending to finance the Vietnam War, without the tax revenue to pay for it. They continued in 1971, when Fed Chair Arthur Burns and President Richard Nixon responded to rising inflation with a combination of rapid monetary stimulus and doomed wage and price controls. An overheating economy blew the lid off the boiling pot a few years later, and inflation shot above 12%.

True, the Fed was overly optimistic in its forecasts for inflation this year, expecting price increases to be smaller and more transitory. Larry Summers and Olivier Blanchard got it right back in February, when they correctly predicted that rapid growth would lead to inflation.

But although the Fed’s inflation forecasts were wide of the mark, its actions have arguably not been far off-target. True, the Fed did not expect to start tapering its monthly asset purchases – so-called quantitative easing – as early as November 2021. But it responded appropriately to the incoming data on inflation, as well as on the strength of the economy, by adjusting the timing of its plans.

Moreover, markets barely reacted to the November 3 taper announcement, indicating that the (now-reappointed) Fed Chair Jerome Powell had successfully communicated the central bank’s rethinking – in contrast to 1994 and 2013, when investors failed to anticipate the start of tightening cycles. If the Fed starts raising short-term interest rates in mid-2022, that will not catch markets by surprise, either.

President Joe Biden can do relatively little to stem the highly unpopular rise in inflation. He has already intervened to help unclog ports and other supply-chain logistics. Increased vaccination against COVID-19 would boost the supply of labor, for example by keeping children in school, though it is difficult to see what more Biden could do here.

A good way to moderate inflation would be to allow more imports. Former President Donald Trump’s tariffs on many products – including aluminum and steel, and almost all US imports from China – raised prices for consumers. Biden should be able to persuade China and other countries to lower some trade barriers against the US in exchange for removing US tariffs. In any case, trade liberalization could reduce some prices quickly.

Some argue that the new government expenditure envisaged in Biden’s social spending bill would work to raise inflation, either because they disapprove of big government or because a dollar of spending raises demand more than a dollar of tax revenue reduces it. Others think the net effect on inflation will be beneficial (particularly in the longer run), because many of the planned programs, such as universal quality preschool, will increase labor supply.

Regardless of these arguments, the new legislation’s effect on inflation should be minor. Biden’s infrastructure package and proposed social spending should be judged on their own merits. Rising US inflation reflects the economy’s rapid recovery from the COVID-19 recession, which means we should get our heads out of the 1970s.

MAGA Republicans Would Have Tried to Cancel Jesus
by JOHN PAVLOVITZ

MAGAs like to tell us there is a “War on Christmas.”

They’re right.

The truth is, Jesus wouldn’t have stood a chance in MAGA America.

They would have cancelled him immediately.

When he told them to love their neighbor as themselves,
they would have screamed at him to go back where he came from and spit anti-Muslim, anti-Semitic epithets from behind anonymous message board Nazi avatars, raising defiant middle fingers in his face.

When Jesus pleaded with them to welcome the stranger and embrace the outcast and receive the refugee,
Tucker Carlson, Laura Ingraham, and Sean Hannity would have devoted their programming to declaring him a subversive, radical Leftist national threat and frightening their viewers into a anti-Jesus frenzy.

When he said that people of faith were to show compassion to the least among us, as a tangible measure of their love for God
-—Ted Cruz would scurry to Fox News to lament his subversive and dangerous plot against American family values and urge his base to shut him down and cut all ties of support with him.

When Jesus healed the sick, fed the hungry, cared for the suffering and implored us to do the same,
our former president would have issued a rambling, vile press release assassinating his character, questioning his patriotism, and inciting violence against him.

When he spoke of the last being first, of the sacredness of humility, of the virtues of generosity; when he shunned violence, denounced power, and cautioned against wealth
—they’d have proudly worn their #LetsGoBrandon shirts while chanting “F*ck You, Jesus!”

If Jesus were here speaking the words attributed to him in the Gospels, performing the acts of kindness described there, and preaching the same religion of good news for the poor and the marginalized
—MAGA Christians would never give him a moment’s peace.

And when all else failed to silence him, some of the most damaged and unstable among them would take to the streets with AR-15s, and in crocodile tear—claims of self-defense, would do what their laws and talk shows and press conferences and ad campaigns could not do: they would permanently cancel Jesus because his empathy and love and generosity simply would not be tolerated in the “great nation” they are building. And no Republican politician would utter a word about it.

That is the sickening truth we need to reckon with as we head toward a holiday devoted to the birth of the healing, helping, caregiving, loving Jesus: those who will most loudly declare their affinity for him and most openly wield their religion and engage in the most performative piety, would be the greatest threat to him.

So, they can talk about a “War on Christmas” all they want, but their actions and words and their relentless rejection of his teachings and of the kind of people he spent his life embracing, remind us that they are Jesus’ fiercest adversaries.

MAGAs reject love.
They ridicule empathy.
They despise diversity.
They’d have cancelled Jesus.

The World Health Organization said Monday in a new risk assessment that it believes the COVID-19 Omicron variant poses a "very high" risk to the globe because it may be more transmissible than other strains of the virus.

Why it matters: Though the WHO acknowledged there are still many uncertainties associated with the variant, the agency said it believes the likelihood of potential further spread of Omicron around the world is "high."

The health agency warned that the variant could potentially drive future COVID-19 surges that strain health care systems, especially in countries with low vaccination rates. It's still uncertain how transmissible the variant is, how effective vaccines are against it or whether it causes more severe illnesses and a higher risk of death.Scientists and health officials in South Africa, where Omicron was first detected, said the new variant appears to be more transmissible than others but added that observed cases have so far been mild.

What they're saying: "The overall global risk related to the new [variant of concern] Omicron is assessed as very high," the WHO said.

"Increasing cases, regardless of a change in severity, may pose overwhelming demands on health care systems and may lead to increased morbidity and mortality," it added."The impact on vulnerable populations would be substantial, particularly in countries with low vaccination coverage."Currently, no deaths associated with the Omicron variant have been reported, the WHO said.

The big picture: Despite Omicron's designation as a variant of concern, the WHO has criticized travel bans on southern African nations by the U.S. and European and Asian countries, saying they may "slightly" reduce the spread of COVID-19 but will "place a heavy burden on lives and livelihoods."

Michael Flynn claims 'global elites' plan new virus because 'COVID tyranny' didn't work

John Wright

November 24, 2021

Michael Flynn, former president Donald Trump's one-time national security adviser, claims "global elites" are plotting to "impose" a new virus on the world, after their "little plan" of "COVID tyranny" failed.

Flynn, who's been linked to the QAnon conspiracy movement, appeared Wednesday on a talk show hosted by another conspiracy theorist, InfoWars' Alex Jones.

Jones asked Flynn, "General, how is the empire going to strike back? With all this election fraud coming out, the corrupt forces aren't going to lay on their back. They're going to try to stop us from having a real election in a year."

Flynn responded by saying he believes the "corrupt forces" Jones referenced will focus on maintaining and increasing their control. He proceeded to lay out three predictions, including firstly a "financial manipulation or collapse."

"No. 2, we're going to see an uptick in other aspects of the COVID," Flynn said. "We've got the various variants. There might even be another form of a SARS that's imposed on the international system. Their little plan with COVID didn't work because too many people — you know, the world of what I call the digital warriors, or the citizen journalists that are out there — they are fighting for the truth, and so the truth has been exposed about all the COVID tyranny that we are facing."

Flynn added that he expects to see "potentially another type of virus that's imposed on the public."

"I hope that that's not the case, but I've seen some indications of that in some of the statements by some of these global elite type of people," Flynn said.

Finally, Flynn said he expects to see a "targeted type of shutdown" using the federal emergency broadcast system.

"They can shut everything down, and now the government is going to tell you what you need to know," he said.
