‘“I don’t think it’s a failure. I think it’s — you could argue that we should have known a year ago, six months ago, two months ago, a month ago… I wish I had thought about ordering 500 million at-home tests two months ago.”

— President Biden, in an ABC News interview, on why Covid tests are not readily available.

RogersFuckingDaddy said...

This current “pandemic of the vaccinated” may be more akin to a cold rather than the nasty respiratory virus sending thousands to the ICU last year, at least based on current data. As The Economist describes, “surging cases but milder symptoms.” Watch this U.K. health minister struggle to explain the low omicron hospitalization and death figures while at the same time promoting fear and panic.

How is omicron being treated by those in charge? President Biden issued a grave warning to the unvaccinated, “We are looking at a winter of severe illness and death for the unvaccinated -- for themselves, their families and the hospitals they'll soon overwhelm.”

It has been almost two years, and little has improved in terms of mandates, rules, and restrictions, most of which have done little if anything to improve our lives. We are still masked up indoors and out, remote learning, social distancing, and travel restrictions for those trying to fly their cares away.

Common sense measures like protecting those at highest risk for severe COVID, early outpatient treatment and prevention, and following past successful pandemic strategies have all been scrapped in favor of endless vaccine boosters with case numbers still breaking records. We are doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result, and we know what that’s the definition of.

President Biden, despite earlier claims of a desire to be, “a president who seeks not to divide but to unify,” is shaming and scapegoating the unvaccinated while news stories are replete with the vaccinated catching COVID. Is this incompetence or is it deliberate? I’ll leave that to you to answer.

Meanwhile, we are watching Groundhog Day. Read or watch the news now and compare it to 21 months ago, and it’s déjà vu. The catchphrases may change but the oppressing COVID cloud continues to dispirit and demoralize the world. So much for “building back better.”

anonymous said...

Once again some fucked up asshole posted an opinion from American Stinker as his own!!!!!! BWAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! Instead of applauding those who took the shot and may cause the end of the pandemic with a milder virus....he acts like a typical GOP asshole hoping to prolong the problems so his party can declare a win......WHAT A FUCKING IDIOT.....GO AWAY AND FUCK YOURSELF. But hey, let's at least give Slow Joe credit for being consistent throughout his 48 years in DC. He's made yet another sweeping proclamation with absolutely nothing to back it up.

Chances of seeing a single test kit in January are slim, but be assured that when it really matters to accumulate a critical mass of positive tests - right before the mid-terms - we'll be buried in them. And then it will be "holy fucking shit! We have to have 100% vote by mail or we're all gonna DIE!!!."

The major averages rose for a third day on Thursday as investors looked past earlier jitters about the spread of the omicron Covid variant.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 100 points, or 0.3%. The S&P 500 rose 0.2%. The Nasdaq Composite gained 0.1%.

Reopening plays were in the green in the premarket, including Las Vegas Sans, Wynn Resorts and Carnival. Airline shares were also in the green.

Helping boost sentiment were new studies suggesting that omicron has a lower risk of hospitalization than other Covid variants.

On Wednesday, the Dow gained 0.7%, bringing its two-day rally to more than 800 points. The S&P 500 climbed 1% to 4,696.56 and now sits 1% away from its record. The Nasdaq Composite climbed 1.2%. All three averages are on track to end the week higher. U.S. markets are closed Friday for the Christmas holiday.

The rebound, which began Tuesday, follows a three-day losing streak for the major averages spurred by fears about the speed of the spread of the latest Covid-19 variant. It was the worst decline for the S&P over a three-day period since September. For the Nasdaq, it was the worst three-day stretch since May.

“December is a month where we’re not supposed to see much volatility, but we have thanks to the omicron variant news,” said Angelo Kourkafas, an investment strategist at Edward Jones. “The last two days we have seen a very strong rebound, and now we are actually within breathing distance of record highs. In our view this two-day rally reflects confidence that the economy will be able to successfully navigate the threat from the omicron variant.”

The Food and Drug Administration authorized on Thursday Merck’s antiviral pill to treat Covid-19 for emergency use, adding another tool to the nation's arsenal to combat the virus.

The FDA's move comes a day after it authorized for another antiviral drug, from Pfizer. Merck's treatment, known as molnupiravir and developed in partnership with Ridgeback Biotherapeutics, is cleared for use adults with mild to moderate Covid who are at risk for severe disease, the agency said in a statement. Pfizer's pill was authorized for people as young as 12.

Full coverage of the Covid-19 pandemic

The big advantage of oral treatments, like Merck’s and Pfizer’s, is that they can be taken at home, and don’t require an IV or injection. That could help the nation's hospitals as new infections are expected to continue to surge this winter.

Clinical trials found the treatment reduced the risk of hospitalization and death among high-risk Covid patients by 30 percent.

By comparison, Pfizer’s drug has been shown to be 89 percent effective at preventing high-risk people from being hospitalized or dying from Covid. Availability of Pfizer's treatment will be much more limited than Merck's initially. That may pose a dilemma for physicians over which treatment option is best to recommend to their patients.

The United States has agreed to purchase about 3.1 million courses of Merck's drug for $2.2 billion. Jeff Zients, the White House Covid-19 response coordinator, said at a briefing Wednesday that, if authorized, the majority of those treatment courses could be available to states and jurisdictions by the end of January.

An FDA advisory committee last month voted narrowly in favor of recommending the treatment. The close vote reflected concerns committee members had about both the effectiveness and the safety of the drug, including the potential risk to pregnant women and their
The FDA recommended that patients use contraception while using Merck's treatment and for four days after the last dose.

Potential side effects of the drug include diarrhea, nausea and dizziness, according to the agency.

During a presentation to the advisory committee on Nov. 30, Merck’s scientists said they expect the drug will work against the omicron variant, now the dominant variant in the U.S. That's because the strain contains similar mutations to other versions of the virus, though further testing is still needed, the company said at the time.

A full course of Merck's treatment is a total of 40 pills, taken as four 200-milligram pills, twice a day for five days. Patients should begin the treatment within five days of the onset of symptoms. During the November advisory committee meeting, the drugmaker emphasized the importance of patients finishing the entire course of treatment as prescribed.

New York Restaurant Adds Voting Booth So They Can Allow People In Without ID

NEW YORK, NY—In an effort to circumvent the city’s vaccine passport regulations, a midtown eatery has installed a voting booth and designated itself as a polling place so it can allow in anyone without any ID at all.

Mikey’s Eats did a brisk business on the day, as the front of the restaurant was crowded by protestors for/against vaccines, for/against vaccine mandates, and for/against vote fraud. The protestors frequently lost track of who they wanted to yell at, changed sides, and dejectedly walked into the restaurant to console themselves with the chef’s special avocado burger.

A lawyer for the ACLU was also present. He spent the day alternating between threatening the restaurant with lawsuits, congratulating them for their commitment to democracy, and openly weeping.

Owner Mikey DeCarlo said, “A guy from [Mayor] de Blasio’s office came by and said he was going to shut us down, except for the voting booth part which he said he would defend to the death. Then he asked if he could get an avocado burger in the voting booth. He was crying a lot.”

The determination to get on with our lives is deeply and perhaps unchangeably human.

In that sense, the spring of 2020 will be remembered as one of the most extraordinary periods in history—a time when people completely withdrew from social life to slow the spread of a dangerous pathogen. But what was possible for a few months has turned out to be unsustainable for years, let alone decades.

Whatever damage Omicron might wreak in the immediate future, we will, most likely, soon lead lives that look a lot more like they did in the spring of 2019 than in the spring of 2020 when the covid-19 virus appeared!

“That’s not a plan — it’s a hope,” said Jennifer Nuzzo, an epidemiologist at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, which tracks testing trends. “If those tests came in January and February, that could have an impact, but if they are spread out over 10 to 12 months, I’m not sure what kind of impact it is going to have.”

Contracts to purchase tests could be finalized as soon as next week, officials said.

Whether testing manufacturers can now ramp up to produce an extra 500 million at-home tests — and how soon — is unclear. John M. Koval, a spokesman for Abbott Laboratories, a major manufacturer of rapid at-home antigen tests, said in an email message that the company is seeing “unprecedented demand” for its tests, “and we’re sending them out as fast as we can make them.”

The company is running its manufacturing plants around the clock, investing in automation and hiring more workers, Mr. Koval said. Abbott will make 70 million tests in January, he said, and “can scale significantly in the months ahead.”

Ellume, an Australian manufacturer of a competing rapid test, said in a statement that it “stands ready to meet the increased demand” by supplying the government 8.5 million tests, and opening a new manufacturing facility in Frederick, Md., in January. Once fully operational, that plant will produce 15 million tests a month.

The Biden plan is facing competition from state and local officials who got out ahead of the president. In Maryland, Gov. Larry Hogan announced last month that his administration was making 500,000 Abbott at-home tests available. Colorado began distributing free at-home tests in October. Dozens of cities and towns in Massachusetts are already sending out free tests under a new statewide program.

Experts say it is unlikely that the 500 million new tests will become available all at once. Dr. Michael Mina, an epidemiologist and former Harvard professor who has repeatedly called for expanded use of testing, said he expected that they would be distributed over two to three months.

“Had this been started a long time ago, maybe things would be a bit different,” said Dr. Mina, who recently became the chief science officer of eMed, which distributes at-home tests. “But this is where we are now, and we kind of have to deal with it.”

Could this be the final straw that converts millions of conservatives from Don to Ron?

By Michael Letts

Republican Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida created a scare among the mainstream media and liberals in December 2021, when he proposed re-establishing the Florida State Guard. He raised the topic while speaking about his military budget proposal.

Not to be confused with Florida National Guard, a federal military force, the Florida Guard is entirely under the control of the State of Florida. It was created initially in 1941 to fill in for National Guard members deployed during World War II. It was disbanded in 1947 once the National Guard members had returned to the states. However, the unit is still part of Florida law as the Florida State Defense Force, so although it did disband, it doesn’t have to be re-created, just reactivated.

Exactly like the one we have here in New York and over 20 other states, alky.

You didn't know this, did you?

But the author of what you stole did -

It seems to be the fact that DeSantis proposed this that has media and politicians upset. While perturbed politicos are nothing new, they don’t seem concerned that the blue states of New York and California have state guard units. The primary reason the left seems upset is that the newly reactivated military would not be under the control of Washington, D.C. bureaucrats. Nowadays, top brass in the Pentagon seems more concerned about making the military woke than fighting-ready.

Updated Dec 23, 2021
Washington (CNN) - Former President Donald Trump appealed to the Supreme Court on Thursday to block the release of documents from his White House to the House committee investigating the January 6 riot at the Capitol, escalating his effort to keep about 700 pages of records secret.

The other states rrb said are not

However, the unit is still part of Florida law as the Florida State Defense Force,

A state army.

Not national guard troops. They are not the army of California or New York.

When the Confederate States started the civil war, they did exactly the same thing.

However, the unit is still part of Florida law as the Florida State Defense Force,

They could fight the United States Armed Services.

If I had 3 polio vaccines in 9 months and then still got polio, I’d have some questions. Just saying.

Biden/Fauci think the problem is the unvaccinated

Neither does the common cold.

What a fucking coincidence, eh alky?

If Trump is elected in '24, whatever will you do to shut down the nation and depose him THEN, alky?

LOL.

Personally, I'd much rather see him as Speaker of the House after the mid-terms. Let's put Death-Santis in the white house instead.

Shall we continue making you look like a fool on this particular topic, alky?

NEW: Biden will be spending Christmas at the White House and then he’s off to the U.S. Virgin Islands for the New Year’s holiday - AP

No reason to work

Nothing going on

I'm sure his staff will send out tweets on how it's a working vacation

while they are walking his new dog

and telling everyone else to stay home

and to avoid groups of more than 4 people

and wear masks at all times

Don't want to make Joe angry

His patience is wearing thin

There are currently twenty-one active state defense forces.

But it's only Florida's which prompts the alky to insert an extra-absorbent tampon.

Please don't confuse the alky right now KD. He's currently focused on Death-Santis' Nazi/Stasi/KKK/Confederate Army Florida Guard.

The very same Nazi/Stasi/KKK/Confederate Army Guard that exists in 20 other states including mine.

The alky will probably go through an entire box of extra-absorbent tampons today because of this.

It's THAT serious.

Let's Go Brandon!!!

Prices soared by 5.7% in the year through November, according to the Personal Consumption Expenditures price index data released Thursday morning. That topped the previous month's rate of 5%, becoming the fastest pace increase since February 1982, when the gauge hit 6.17%.

Excluding the more-volatile measurements of food and energy, prices rose 4.7% in November from the previous year – the highest since 1982. That measurement is the Federal Reserve's preferred gauge to track inflation; their target range is around 2%.

What's up with Trump today?

I'm more interested in the Vice president Harris...a lot of Democrats are not happy.

In Harris’ case, she came to the job without strong ties to key senators; one person briefed on the Oval Office meeting said it would be more productive if the discussion between Biden and Manchin remained private. It is unclear that the president had much sway on his own, either, given the senator’s decision this week to break with the White House over the domestic policy bill.

But without a headlining role in some of the most critical decisions facing the White House, the vice president is caught between criticism that she is falling short and resentment among supporters who feel she is being undercut by the administration she serves. And her allies increasingly are concerned that while Biden relied on her to help him win the White House, he does not need her to govern.

“I think she was an enormous help to the ticket during the campaign,” said Mark Buell, one of Harris’ earliest fundraisers since her first race for district attorney in San Francisco. “I would like to see her employed in the same way, now that they’re implementing their objectives or goals.”

The urgency surrounding her position is tied to whether the president, who at 79 is the oldest person to hold the office, will run for reelection in 2024. He told ABC News on Wednesday that he would run again if he was in good health. But questions about Harris’ readiness for the top job are starting far earlier than is usual for an administration in its first year.

Harris declined requests for an interview, but White House officials said that her relationship with Biden is a partnership.

“The vice president has diligently worked alongside the president coordinating with partners, allies and Democratic members of the House and Senate to advance the goals of this administration,” said Sabrina Singh, Harris’ deputy press secretary.

An early front-runner whose presidential ambitions fizzled amid a dysfunctional 2020 campaign, Harris was pulled onto the Biden ticket for her policy priorities that largely mirrored his, and her ability as a Black woman to bolster support with coalitions of voters he needed to win the presidency. But according to interviews with more than two dozen White House officials, political allies, elected officials and former aides, Harris is still struggling to define herself in the Biden White House or meaningfully correct what she and her aides feel is an unfair perception that she is adrift in the job.

If he doesn't run again I don't want her to be the nominee anymore..

Faced with declining approval ratings, a series of staff departures and a drumbeat of criticism from Republicans and the conservative news media, she has turned to powerful confidantes, including Hillary Clinton, to help plot a path forward.

Harris has privately told her allies that the news coverage of her would be different if she were any of her 48 predecessors, all of whom were white and male. She also has confided in them about the difficulties she is facing with the intractable issues in her portfolio, such as voting rights and the root causes of migration. The White House has pushed back against scathing criticism on both fronts, for what activists say is a lack of attention.

“I think it’s no secret that the different things she has been asked to take on are incredibly demanding, not always well understood publicly and take a lot of work as well as a lot of skill,” Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said in an interview. “You have to do everything except one thing, which is take credit.”

Even in the best of times, the constraints of the job often make the vice president an afterthought, and not everyone asked to serve accepts it. (“I do not propose to be buried until I am really dead and in my coffin,” Daniel Webster, a former secretary of state, said in the 1840s about declining the job.)

But the complexity of the issues she has been assigned, and the long-term solutions they require, should have prompted the West Wing to defend Harris more aggressively to the public, said Rep. Karen Bass, D-Calif., the former chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus.

“What the White House could’ve done is been clearer with the expectations of what was supposed to happen under her watch,” she said.

Other Democrats say their frustrations run deeper.Faced with declining approval ratings, a series of staff departures and a drumbeat of criticism from Republicans and the conservative news media, she has turned to powerful confidantes, including Hillary Clinton, to help plot a path forward.

I'm repeating myself. Jimmy Hitler Jr. rrband and kputz

In his business career, Mr. Trump put his name on everything from steaks to menswear to vodka, with mixed results. Now he risks more than diluting his personal brand. Mr. Trump could help some Democrats hang on in an otherwise devastating election cycle in 2022 by forcing their opponents to harangue voters about an unpopular topic. If the GOP can’t learn to shake the Trump obsession with alleged election fraud, the former president could even hand Democrats the White House—again.
