On Tuesday, at a meeting of the school board for Granbury, Texas just southwest of Fort Worth, students from the high school lined up to speak out against a controversial "book review" policy proposed by right-wing activists that would effectively let members of the board ban books in school even before a review.
"GISD Communications Director Jeff Meador stated: 'School library books have been under heavy scrutiny over the past several months as investigations are ongoing by the Texas House General Investigating Committee chaired by State Rep. Matt Krause as well as the Texas Education Agency as directed by Governor Greg Abbott,'" noted the Hood County News in a report last week. "Meador said that 'like every school district in the state,' the GISD is currently reviewing all books in the district’s schools to determine their educational value and age appropriateness."
But the students themselves were having none of it at the hearing.
"I feel this new book banning bill is irresponsible, ignorant, and even dangerous," said one sophomore. A junior agreed, saying, "I just want to emphasize who is upset about this book ban, and it's not just delinquents who want to read smut. It's honor students who want access to the full extent of their education."
"The job of the superintendent and the school board is not only to protect the students in this district, but to make them feel like they have a place in this community," said Kennedy Tackett, a senior who spearheaded the petition against the policy. "But I gotta tell you, from what I've seen so far, you are failing at your job."

(CNN) - Federal prosecutors are reviewing fake Electoral College certifications that declared former President Donald Trump the winner of states that he lost, Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco told CNN on Tuesday.
"We've received those referrals. Our prosecutors are looking at those and I can't say anything more on ongoing investigations," Monaco said in an exclusive interview.
The fake certificates falsely declaring Trump's victory were sent to the National Archives by Trump's allies in mid-December 2020. They have attracted public scrutiny amid the House's January 6 investigation into the pressure campaign that sought to reverse Trump's electoral defeat.
Monaco did not go into detail about what else prosecutors are looking at from the partisan attempt to subvert the 2020 vote count. She said that, more broadly, the Justice Department was "going to follow the facts and the law, wherever they lead, to address conduct of any kind and at any level that is part of an assault on our democracy."
This is the first time that the Justice Department has commented on requests from lawmakers and state officials that the it investigate the fake certifications.
The certificates contain the signatures of Trump supporters who falsely claimed to be the rightful electors in Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Nevada and New Mexico -- all states that President Joe Biden had won. Some of the certificates were sent by top officials representing the Republican Party in each state, according to the documents, which were obtained and made public by the watchdog group American Oversight.
In her interview with CNN, Monaco also touted the efforts the Justice Department has made to address the threats and harassment that election officials have faced.
"I'm concerned about the really disturbing nature of the threats that we've seen. They've been disturbingly aggressive, and violent and personal," Monaco said. She pointed to an indictment unveiled by the Justice Department last week alleging that a Texas man had threatened to kill Georgia election officials. The indictment was the first to be brought after the formation of a department task force focused on the issue.
"Those charges were the first coming out of that task force but they will not be the last," Monaco said.

The wide-open southern border which has resulted in nearly 2 million illegal immigrants flocking to the United States in less than one year;
The loss of faith and confidence in the nation’s elections as nearly 60% of Americans believe the 2020 election was riddled with fraud;
The unfathomable stumbles in foreign affairs as personified by the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, which has created a new safe haven for terrorists, the obeisance to Communist China allowing them free rein to achieve global hegemony, and the green light to Russia to dominate Europe. This potentially relegates the United States to the status of a second-tier global power and, more devastatingly, the U.S. Dollar eventually losing its status as the world’s reserve currency.
None of the above, including the election of Joe Biden, would have been possible without the full-throated support of many of those who are now decrying the carnage created by the historically unprecedented response to Covid-19. Their transformation and verbiage ring hollow and their responsibility for what has and will happen to the citizens of the United States will never be erased. They should have known better, they should have realized that they were but mere pawns for the ruling elites, they should have done their own research, and they should have had the interest of the nation and not themselves first and foremost in their hearts.
Their future half-hearted apologies will never be accepted.

Based on its ongoing analysis of emerging scientific data, specifically the sustained increase of SARS-CoV-2 viral variants that are resistant to bamlanivimab alone resulting in the increased risk for treatment failure, the FDA has determined that the known and potential benefits of bamlanivimab, when administered alone, no longer outweigh the known and potential risks for its authorized use. Therefore, the agency determined that the criteria for issuance of an authorization are no longer met and has revoked the EUA.

President Biden’s approval rating hit a new low in the latest Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll as the White House faces crises on multiple fronts.
Biden’s approval rating fell to 39 percent in the poll, which was released exclusively to The Hill. Of that, 18 percent of registered voters said they strongly approve of the job he’s doing, while 21 percent say they somewhat approve. Meanwhile, 53 percent said they somewhat or strongly disapprove of his job performance.
That number is six points down from his approval rating in November, when he was at 45 percent, while his disapproval rating ticked up from 51 percent two months ago. His 39 percent approval rating is the lowest since the poll first started gauging it in March.

'Failing at your job': Texas high schoolers shred their school board over proposed book-banning initiative

On Tuesday, at a meeting of the school board for Granbury, Texas just southwest of Fort Worth, students from the high school lined up to speak out against a controversial "book review" policy proposed by right-wing activists that would effectively let members of the board ban books in school even before a review.
"GISD Communications Director Jeff Meador stated: 'School library books have been under heavy scrutiny over the past several months as investigations are ongoing by the Texas House General Investigating Committee chaired by State Rep. Matt Krause as well as the Texas Education Agency as directed by Governor Greg Abbott,'" noted the Hood County News in a report last week. "Meador said that 'like every school district in the state,' the GISD is currently reviewing all books in the district’s schools to determine their educational value and age appropriateness."
But the students themselves were having none of it at the hearing.
"I feel this new book banning bill is irresponsible, ignorant, and even dangerous," said one sophomore. A junior agreed, saying, "I just want to emphasize who is upset about this book ban, and it's not just delinquents who want to read smut. It's honor students who want access to the full extent of their education."
"The job of the superintendent and the school board is not only to protect the students in this district, but to make them feel like they have a place in this community," said Kennedy Tackett, a senior who spearheaded the petition against the policy. "But I gotta tell you, from what I've seen so far, you are failing at your job."
