I remember when Democrats wanted to keep big money out of politics?

George Soros Gives Dem PAC $125 Million to Help With Midterms

It’s okay when the Democrats do it. It’s okay when it’s George Soros. Soros started Democracy PAC in 2019 to help Democrats in 2020. I’m guessing he is seeing a deer in the headlights because he cut the PAC a $125 million check. Soros told Politico the donation will support “pro-democracy ’causes and candidates, regardless of political party.'” Those who want to strengthen “the infrastructure of American democracy: voting rights and civic participation, civil rights and liberties, and the rule of law” will receive the money.

Zuckerberg gave more than this to democratic election officials across the country under the guise of Covid, but we now know that money was used for a variety of get out the vote drives, ballot harvesting and other things that had nothing to do with Covid.

Interestingly while Democrats are looking to Federalize elections and pass a new law before 2020, limiting or eliminating this sort of "dark money" is not on their agenda. If the dark money helps them it is a good thing. It is only bad when it was working against their Party.

JOE BIDEN

IS JOE BIDEN IN THE POCKET OF THE CHINESE COMMUNIST PARTY?

Peter Schweizer is an excellent researcher who has built a solid body of work that, among other things, exposes corruption in America’s political class. His most recent book, Red-Handed: How American Elites Get Rich Helping China Win, is the most sensational yet. The New York Post has a long excerpt from Peter’s book relating to Joe Biden and his family (links omitted):

For those wondering why Joe Biden is soft on China, consider this never-before-reported revelation: The Biden family has done five deals in China totaling some $31 million arranged by individuals with direct ties to Chinese intelligence — some reaching the very top of China’s spy agency.

Indeed, every known deal that the Biden family enjoyed with Beijing was reached courtesy of individuals with spy ties. And Joe Biden personally benefited from his family’s foreign deals.

What are these deals? And who are the individuals who made them happen for the Bidens?

Here, then, are a few key facts about the Biden family’s $5 million-plus deals with individuals in bed with Chinese intelligence.

Republican-led states rush to pass antiabortion bills before Supreme Court rules on Roe
Lawmakers in at least 29 states, anticipating a new legal landscape, have filed measures to restrict abortion.

Antiabortion supporters march during a Kansans for Life event on Jan. 25, 2022, in Topeka, Kan. (Evert Nelson/The Topeka Capital-Journal/AP)
By Caroline Kitchener
Today at 10:14 a.m. EST

Nebraska lawmakers kicked off the new year by introducing a bill to ban all abortions if the Supreme Court’s landmark Roe v. Wade decision is overturned. The next day, Florida legislators announced their plan to narrow the window for abortion access from 24 weeks of pregnancy to 15. And later that week in Phoenix, state legislators unveiled the Arizona Heartbeat Act, designed to mimic a Texas law passed last year.
With the U.S. Supreme Court expected to decide in the coming months whether to upend its nearly 50-year precedent that established a constitutional right to abortion nationwide, lawmakers in Republican-led states across the country have moved aggressively in recent weeks to lay the groundwork for a new era of abortion restrictions.
While it’s possible that the high court either will overturn Roe or leave the precedent fully intact, many legal scholars and advocates on both sides anticipate the justices will land somewhere in the middle, instantly changing the standard for abortion legislation. Antiabortion lawmakers are trying to predict what the Supreme Court might do as they craft laws designed to take effect soon after a ruling, whatever the justices decide.

“We don’t know exactly what that decision is going to be yet,” said Arkansas state senator Jason Rapert (R), who has been jockeying to pass a bill modeled after the Texas law, which banned abortion after six weeks. “Until that decision is released, we need to pick up every tool to save babies’ lives — and do all we can, whenever we can.”
The push for new laws reflects the pent-up energy among antiabortion lawmakers who have been constricted for decades by parameters established in Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, which declared laws unconstitutional if they impose an “undue burden” on someone seeking an abortion before their fetus is viable outside of the womb. The court’s much-anticipated ruling this year in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization relates to a law passed in 2018 in Mississippi, which poses a direct threat to Roe because it bans abortion at 15 weeks of pregnancy except in cases of medical emergencies or fetal abnormalities. Fifteen weeks is significantly before viability.
Antiabortion activists brave cold, pandemic fears to rally for what they hope is the end of Roe v. Wade
So far, lawmakers in at least 29 states have filed antiabortion legislation in their 2022 legislative session. Those efforts have helped inspire a push in the other direction in some states where Democrats hold power, with pro-abortion rights legislators in at least 17 states filing bills that aim to protect abortion access, according to Planned Parenthood.

The parallel comparisons are very disturbing

king gave in to Mussolini's demands and appointed him prime minister. That was the beginning of the end: just like the Republicans in several states, Empowered and emboldened, Mussolini instructed the legislature to grant him extraordinary powers, broke up unions and restructured the state to concentrate power in his own hands (and those of his fascist allies

So by the time Mussolini openly seized power, roughly 26 months later, it was essentially a fait accompli. Many people opposed him, and many were horrified, but they no longer had the strength to stop him. So that's a Mussolini moment: When a dictator announces to the world that he's a dictator — as his adversaries have been saying all along — and it's too late to do anything about it.

If all that sounds a little too close to home, it probably should. Donald Trump planted the seeds for his Big Lie about the 2020 election years ago, and his opponents — including many Republicans, at least at first — didn't take him seriously. In refusing to accept defeat, he broke the United States' 220-year precedent of peaceful transfers of power, forever changing the dynamics of how presidents are expected to behave. And that's all before we get to the lame-duck president urging a mob of supporters to attack the Capitol last Jan. 6, with the apparent goal of overturning Joe Biden's electoral victory.

While Trump hasn't yet succeeded in overthrowing democracy, he also has not been held accountable, despite two impeachment trials, and apparently will not be prosecuted by the Biden administration. As with Mussolini, Trump's actions during the 2020 election cycle demonstrated that he viewed himself as above the law. And like Mussolini, Trump remains beholden to his most extreme followers. When far-right supporters like Alex Jones denounced him for supporting COVID-19 boosters vaccines, Trump shifted position. That also happened during his presidency, as when he briefly flirted with endorsing gun control laws, until the NRA and its allies let him know that was off limits.

Trump repeatedly tried to declare himself the winner after the 2020 election; it simply didn't work. If he or someone like him runs in 2024, we're likely to see that again — and if Trump or his proxy loses, they'll have loyalists installed in key positions throughout swing states ready to reverse the results. So the next time Trump (or whoever follows him) simply claims to be the legitimate president regardless of the actual results, that person may already have the machinery in place to create America's Mussolini moment.

Anocracies are neither fully democratic nor fully autocratic; their citizens enjoy some elements of democratic rule (e.g., elections), while other rights (e.g., due process or freedom of the press) suffer," Walter wrote for the Washington Post. "In the last weeks of Donald Trump’s presidency, the respected Center for Systemic Peace (CSP) calculated that, for the first time in more than two centuries, the United States no longer qualified as a democracy. It had, over the preceding five years, become an anocracy."

President Joe Biden's peaceful inauguration moved the polity ranking back into the democratic zone, but Walter warned the threat remained, putting the U.S. at real risk of additional violence and instability, and Walter reacted with alarm when a CNN host showed her interviews with Trump supporters who refused to accept the former president had lost the election.

"Well, 10 years ago, [my reaction] would have been shock and disbelief," Walter said. “I would have thought, ‘Well she’s an outlier and she’s not representative of anything larger than a fringe movement, maybe.' But of course, that’s not the case anymore.”

Walter and others who study civil conflict have been sounding the alarm for years, but she said no wanted to believe the risks, but she said Trump and his right-wing media allies have corroded trust in democracy itself -- with already fatal results.

“Citizens do believe what they are hearing and if they hear it long enough and consistently enough and if that’s all they hear, they absolutely don’t think it’s a lie, they think it’s the truth,” Walter said.

"You know, they're good people," she added. "They are trying to do what they think is right. It's the leadership that's cynical. It's the leadership that knows better who is feeding them lies consistently. They’re priming their supporters to believe that democracy isn’t worth defending because they don’t want democracy anymore."

Ch actually believes this

Anyone want to really know why Biden is soooo unpopular and how it is even possible that Pelosi and her minions are even less popular? Well this is part of it right here. While the lion's share of our population is well over a riot that took place over a year ago... liberals do everything in their power to keep in in the news in a lame attempt to distract us from how horrible they are actually doing their jobs.

Let's actually use our Justice department to go after real criminals. Wouldn't that be a novel idea? But rather they pander to liberal extremists who are still trying to argue (over a year later) that the Capital riots was an attempt to take over the country.

Here is the reality. It doesn't matter how hard they try, how deep they dig, how many charges they make, or how many witnesses they demand talk to them. People are not dumb enough (well most people are not dumb enough) to think that a bunch of unarmed protesters were going to seize control of the United States Government.

Meanwhile, real criminals are defended everyday by liberals who will tell us that the police are the bad guys and the criminals are the victims. They probably believe that ten officers deserved to be shot and injured and they probably are cheering that three more were shot and killed.

The DOJ and FBI are investigating Republicans only!

An answer to Ch's totally biased thread article:

Citizens United Explained

January 21, 2020 marked a decade since the Supreme Court’s ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, a controversial decision that reversed century-old campaign finance restrictions and enabled corporations and other outside groups to spend unlimited funds on elections.

While wealthy donors, corporations, and special interest groups have long had an outsized influence in elections, that sway has dramatically expanded since the Citizens United decision, with negative repercussions for American democracy and the fight against political corruption.

What was Citizens United about?

A conservative nonprofit group called Citizens United challenged campaign finance rules after the FEC stopped it from promoting and airing a film criticizing presidential candidate Hillary Clinton too close to the presidential primaries.

A 5-4 majority of the Supreme Court sided with Citizens United, ruling that corporations and other outside groups can spend unlimited money on elections.

What was the rationale for the ruling?

In the court’s opinion, Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote that limiting “independent political spending” from corporations and other groups violates the First Amendment right to free speech. The justices who voted with the majority assumed that independent spending cannot be corrupt and that the spending would be transparent, but both assumptions have proven to be incorrect.

With its decision, the Supreme Court overturned election spending restrictions that date back more than 100 years. Previously, the court had upheld certain spending restrictions, arguing that the government had a role in preventing corruption. But in Citizens United, a bare majority of the justices held that “independent political spending” did not present a substantive threat of corruption, provided it was not coordinated with a candidate’s campaign.

As a result, corporations can now spend unlimited funds on campaign advertising if they are not formally “coordinating” with a candidate or political party.

How has Citizens United changed elections in the United States?

The ruling has ushered in massive increases in political spending from outside groups, dramatically expanding the already outsized political influence of wealthy donors, corporations, and special interest groups.

In the immediate aftermath of the Citizens United decision, analysts focused much of their attention on how the Supreme Court designated corporate spending on elections as free speech. But perhaps the most significant outcomes of Citizens United have been the creation of super PACs, which empower the wealthiest donors, and the expansion of dark money through shadowy nonprofits that don’t disclose their donors.

A Brennan Center report by Daniel I. Weiner pointed out that a very small group of Americans now wield “more power than at any time since Watergate, while many of the rest seem to be disengaging from politics.

“This is perhaps the most troubling result of Citizens United: in a time of historic wealth inequality,” wrote Weiner, “the decision has helped reinforce the growing sense that our democracy primarily serves the interests of the wealthy few, and that democratic participation for the vast majority of citizens is of relatively little value.”

An election system that is skewed heavily toward wealthy donors also sustains racial bias and reinforces the racial wealth gap. Citizens United also unleashed political spending from special interest groups.

Dan Goldman: Evidence shows Trump was involved in conspiracy to overturn election
Jan. 29, 2022, 2:30 AM PST
By Laurence H. Tribe, professor of constitutional law at Harvard and Dennis Aftergut, former federal prosecutor
On Saturday, Trump is set to throw red meat to his base — and continue gearing up for a possible 2024 presidential run — at the Houston-area "Save America" rally. In this alternate reality, the ongoing investigation into his election scheming is all a witch hunt, those "alternate electors" were just trying to help America, and he and his fellow plotters are the real victims.

Back in the real world, the Justice Department announced on Tuesday it was investigating the Trump campaign’s bogus elector slate scheme, which has quickly become a focus of the House select committee investigating Jan. 6. The scheme began in December 2020 and involved Republicans in seven states’ sending Congress forged and fraudulent alternate electoral slates naming Donald Trump the winner of the presidential election.

In this alternate reality, the ongoing investigation into his election scheming is all a witch hunt, and he and his fellow plotters are the victims.

Like the Justice Department’s Jan. 13 indictment of 11 Oath Keepers on charges of seditious conspiracy and the Jan. 6 committee’s subpoena surge, this Justice Department announcement represents another milestone toward full accountability. Importantly, revelation of the phony electoral slates, together with a newly unearthed draft executive order that would have directed the Defense Department to confiscate voting machines, highlights the existence of something we have been calling “Plan A.”

This plan was the first phase of the Trump administration’s plot to overturn the 2020 election. The Capitol assault aimed at pressuring Vice President Mike Pence to subvert the certification of President Joe Biden’s victory — “Plan B” — would have been needed as a backup in the event “Plan A” failed. On Jan. 28, the select committee subpoenaed 14 of the “alternate electors” in the fraudulent electoral slate scheme. The select committee’s probe continues to accumulate evidence suggesting that the violence on Jan. 6 is inseparable from what led up to it.

And it it is crucial for the Justice Department to connect the nonviolent and the violent halves of Trump's attempted coup. This would allow presentation of the whole picture to jurors if leaders are indicted.

At minimum, the criminal investigation of both parts of the plot involves potential charges under 18 USC §§ 371, 1512 and 2384 — defrauding the United States, “corruptly impeding” an official proceeding and seditiously conspiring against the government.

Failure to include both parts of the scheme in any indictment of leaders would be a colossal error. Only by connecting all evidentiary dots of the entire plot can prosecutors show jurors that any attempted coup is criminal, all the worse when the failure of a nonviolent coup triggers bloodshed and death.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The electoral slate scheme and the draft executive order to seize voting machines added pieces to the puzzle of all that was being planned behind the scenes before any insurrectionist stepped foot on the Capitol grounds.

Central to “Plan A” was getting Pence to delay Congress’ official declaration of Biden’s victory by halting the electoral count. To that end, CNN and The Washington Post have reported that members of the Trump campaign solicited Republicans in seven states to submit fraudulent alternate slates. Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s personal lawyer at the time, helped oversee the effort. Republicans sent the phony certifications to the National Archives for forwarding to the Senate, but the National Archives rejected them.

Trump campaign lawyer Boris Epshteyn was involved, as well. He now admits his participation but pretends he was merely helping create the slates as “contingencies” in case some court somewhere finally found the original slates to be tainted by pervasive voter fraud. (More than 60 courts rejected Trump campaign lawsuits based on the “big lie,” and former Attorney General William Barr called Trump’s voter fraud claims “bull----.”)

Unfortunately for Epshteyn’s “contingent slates” cover story, the “contingency” language appeared only in New Mexico’s and Pennsylvania’s certificates. In five states’ certificates, the language did not say that the documents had been submitted only “in case” a court invalidated the certified Democratic slate of electors. Rather, the Republican certificates declared falsely and unequivocally that they set forth the states’ official “duly appointed electors.”

Notably, in Pennsylvania, the alternate “electors” had refused to sign the nonconditional version proposed by the Trump campaign. In combination with the five other states’ certificates including the original language, the Pennsylvania electors’ refusal affirms the Trump campaign’s fraudulent wording and design.

Trumpworld scandal explodes: Feds eye scheme
In connection with the scheme, the Justice Department should also investigate the involvement of GOP lawmakers like Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas. On Dec. 27, 2020, Gohmert filed a lawsuit seeking a judicial declaration that Pence had the constitutional power to decide what to do with competing slates. The suit falsely statedthat “the State of Arizona (and several others) have appointed two competing slates of electors,” leaving little doubt about Gohmert’s knowledge of the fraudulent plan. (The suit was dismissed.)

Some parts of “Plan A” may have been hiding in plain sight, lost in a fire hose of conspiratorial lunacy. On Dec.18, 2020, we might have been excused for thinking retired Gen. Mike Flynn was on a loopy lark of his own when he said Trump “could immediately ... seize every single one of these machines around the country.” As it turns out, he may have actually been “in the loop” of Plan A.

In fact, two days later, Flynn and his lawyer, Sidney Powell, participated in a chaotic White House meeting about the plan to seize voting machines. (Powell was sanctioned last year for her misrepresentations in a lawsuit challenging Michigan’s vote.) It was reported at the time that Trump was contemplating appointing Powell as a special

Biden's election comments veer uncomfortably close to the ontology of Trumpism
But for the strenuous opposition of White House Counsel Pat Cipollone at the Dec. 20 White House meeting, the executive order might have gone into effect. As Cipollone knew, 18 USC § 1385 makes it a crime to use the military domestically to “engage in civilian law enforcement unless ... expressly authorized by a statute or the Constitution.”

We want to hear what you THINK. Please submit a letter to the editor.
We expect the Justice Department to investigate this scheme and to do so immediately if it has not started already. Should Congress change hands in 2023, it will surely amplify Trump's framing of the narrative as a witch hunt, complicating the task of any investigation, indictment or trial.

Nothing short of convicting Trump for his role in the insurrection will disqualify him from running again in 2024, and claiming the mantle of a martyred hero rather than of a disgraced and convicted insurrectionist.

For now, the important focus is on robustly investigating the entire post-election plot as an integrated conspiracy with two parts, each aimed at keeping Donald Trump in power.

Another businessman-turned-politician, is doing what Trump tells him to do.

The businessman-turned-politician has hit the ground running, signing a number of executive orders aimed at banning mask mandates and what his office has called “inherently divisive concepts, like Critical Race Theory and its progeny” from classrooms.

ADVERTISING

The executive orders have sparked backlash from Youngkin’s critics inside and outside of Virginia. Seven of the state’s school boards and some parents have already sued to block the governor’s mask-optional executive order for children in schools.

Meanwhile, a tip line established by Youngkin for parents to report what it deems to be “divisive practices” taught in classrooms — like critical race theory, an academic theory that focuses on the role of institutional racism in the nation’s history — has also met with criticism and mockery from the left. Singer John Legend urged Black parents in a tweet this week to flood the tip line with complaints about their history being silenced.

Youngkin’s Attorney General Jason Miyares has also taken a conservative stance on a number of issues, including coronavirus restrictions. On Friday, Miyares issued a legal opinion arguing that Virginia colleges and universities did not have the authority to mandate that students get the coronavirus vaccine.

The administration’s actions have earned Youngkin praise from his conservative allies, who say he is keeping his campaign promises.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

One more lunatic conspiracy theory bullshit.

The DOJ has no proof that the vice President Pence and vice President elect Harris were never in the Capitol building.

Now, prosecutors want to argue that entry was a crime because Pence was coming back to the Capitol.

“18 U.S.C. 1752(a)(1) and (2) criminalizes a person entering a restricted area ‘of a building or grounds where the President or other person protected by the Secret Service is or will be temporarily visiting.’” [Original emphasis.] “18 U.S.C. 1752 does not require the Secret Service protectee to be present on the grounds or in the building where the restricted area has been established at the time of an illegal entry into the restricted area. Therefore, the Vice President’s presence in an underground parking garage or tunnel does not exculpate the Defendant with respect to the charged conduct,” Janani Iyengar, an assistant U.S. attorney, wrote on January 18.

But of course it does—not only does it exonerate Griffin, who never entered the building, but hundreds of Americans charged under the same premise.

Further, the Justice Department insists it does not have the photographs, which were obtained by ABC News correspondent Jonathan Karl. “The photographs requested by the Defendant from the official White House photographer are not in the government’s possession, therefore, they are not considered Brady [material] and the Defendant cannot move to compel their production,” Iyengar wrote to the court.

And that’s not the only way the Justice Department is attempting to conceal Pence’s exact location for nearly six hours on January 6. Prosecutors also have asked the court to strictly limit the cross-examination of Secret Service witnesses and prohibit defense attorneys from asking agents about “the location within the Capitol or its grounds to which the Vice President and his family, or their motorcade, were taken once the riot began on January 6, 2021.”

Any public disclosures about Pence’s exact location, prosecutors argue, would jeopardize national security. In another major goal post shift, prosecutors say the burden of proof for the government only is to show that the defendant entered “building or grounds where the President or other person protected by the Secret Service is or will be temporarily visiting.”

A central question remains: Was Pence in the Capitol building, as the Justice Department has repeatedly claimed, or not? Is it yet another fabrication intended to exaggerate what happened?

January 6 is a tissue of myths, cover-ups, manufactured hysteria, and outright lies. As I predicted in my book, January 6: How Democrats Used the Capitol Protest to Launch a War on Terror Against the Political Right, the truth gradually will be revealed as trials get underway this year. Exposing the Justice Department’s intentional falsehoods about Kamala Harris and Mike Pence is just the start.
