Manchin gets standing ovation from West Virginia legislators for standing up to pushy Democrats!

As our friends at Hot Air note, 72 percent of West Virginians support Manchin blocking the Build Back Better bill. It’s a red state, and Republicans control both the House and the Senate, so they’re definitely supportive of what Manchin has done. He might be the only Democrat who could win that office in that state. So, Democrats have the choice between Manchin or a Republican because that’s the reality.

So as much as Democrats and liberals are pretending that Manchin is some sort of traitor to the country the truth is that this is still and has always been a center right country that does not like it when liberals assume their personal ideals are akin to American values.

In the October letter, Krause cited concerns over any books that contained “material that might make students feel discomfort, guilt, anguish, or any other form of psychological distress because of their race or sex or convey that a student, by virtue of their race or sex, is inherently racist, sexist, or oppressive, whether consciously or unconsciously.”

In December, a new Texas law went into effect intended to combat Critical Race Theory. It stipulates that a “teacher may not be compelled to discuss a widely debated and currently controversial issue of public policy or social affairs” and that if it is discussed, the educator must “explore that topic objectively and in a manner free from political bias.” One school administrator told staff members that under the new law they should be prepared to teach an “opposing” view of the Holocaust, in order not to violate the new law, a comment that led to an apology from the school district superintendent.

Caldwell-Stone said that people taking an interest in local school and library boards, including showing up for the meetings and voting in elections, can help push back on censorship, as some students and parents are already doing. She said the group has argued “very forcefully” for wider communities to have a say on targeted books, and “that the work is evaluated as a whole and not focused on one image or a few words, so when you evaluate a work’s educational suitability that you’re looking at the broader picture.”

In addition, she said there should be “mechanisms [in place] for those parents who do have concerns about the literature for whatever reason to opt their young student out of that particular reading assignment.”

We progressives "assumed" that our personal values of having universal health care for our people were shared by the majority of Americans, and we are being proved correct.

Social security, Obamacare, and medicare ARE NOT GOING AWAY.

You call these things socialism.

We say they are sensibly and correctly demanded democratically by our people for their welfare as part of our right to "life, liberty [from crushing medical bills] and the pursuit of happiness."

We will not let the big medical industry continue to take unfair advantage of our people. Government is to be of by and FOR the people, all the people, not of, by and FOR the wealthy only.

Pope Francis Decries ‘Infodemic’ on Virus
January 29, 2022 at 1:44 pm EST By Taegan Goddard 25 Comments

“Pope Francis denounced the ‘distortion of reality based on fear’ that has ripped across the world during the coronavirus pandemic,” the Washington Post reports.

Said Francis:
“We can hardly fail to see that these days, in addition to the pandemic, an ‘infodemic’ is spreading: A distortion of reality based on fear, which in our global society leads to an explosion of commentary on falsified if not invented news.”

The same thing happened here five years ago

Ex-Fox News host Gretchen Carlson slammed her former network, saying “there’s a big difference between having a conservative opinion and having one that supports conspiracy theories.”

“Conservative television news is certainly not the conservative news that was out there even just five years ago,” Carlson told CNN’s Jim Acosta on Thursday.

“Slowly but surely, this has morphed into eradicating any other point of view since the Trump era that is not just opinion,” said Carlson, who left Fox in 2016.

She reportedly received a $20 million settlement over sexual harassment allegations against then-CEO Roger Ailes.

“It’s gone from an opinion, which was fine, to completely devolving into non-fact-based conspiracy theories and outright dangerous rhetoric, in my mind, and I think it’s a complete disservice to our country,” she told Acosta.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady announced his retirement from the NFL after 22 seasons. Brady won seven Super Bowls over the course of his career with the Bucs (1) and Patriots (6). He is the only QB to win seven Super Bowl titles and retires as the best to play the position. The 3-time regular-season MVP also won SB MVP five times and was a 15-time pro-bowler. Brady might as well be enshrined in the football Hall of Fame in Canton right now.

The Hall of Famer began his career with the New England Patriots as a sixth-round pick sitting behind star quarterback Drew Bledsoe. Brady entered the mix once Mo Lewis hit Bledsoe in the 2001 season, and that was that. The Michigan product went on to win six Super Bowls with the Patriots before ultimately leaving for Tampa Bay. He won a Super Bowl in his first season with the Buccaneers, leading the franchise to a win in its own stadium. The Bucs fell short this season against the Los Angeles Rams, with Brady’s furious comeback coming up short as Matthew Stafford set up the game-winning field goal for LA in the final seconds.
