So at this point the vaccine has already infected 2.5% of the vaccinated population and 3% of those are becoming hospitalized.
So a little simple math suggest that vaccinated Washington residents have accounted for around 140,000 cases recently. That would account for the majority of the 210,000 cases reported over the past 30 days and a lion's share of the 160,000 cases so far in January depending on how far back this statistic is going. These vaccinated people would have accounted for about 4200 hospitalizations.
Now I cannot find a local tally of how many current covid hospitalizations we have here, but these new hospitalizations makes up about 9% of the total hospitalizations we have had since the beginning (48,000). Seems likely that they are a fairly significant percentage of who is currently or who has been very recently hospitalized. I will say that Washington's website is very statistically murky. They have a blatant and odd tendency of really pushing strange statistics that look to prove vaccinations work, like comparing unvaccinated people over 65 to the broader population (rather to others over 65). I don't need the Covid dashboard to polisplain to me that unvaccinated people over 65 will die from Covid more often than the broader population.
Either way, this sort of reporting on this recent surge appears to be some acknowledgement that our vaccines are not a silver bullet to prevent serious problems with Covid. The tide seems to be turning a little bit on this and rather than everyone demanding that if you are vaccinated, you are safe... people are starting to acknowledge that this is not the case and that other things may need to be done. Only a matter of time before the vaccinated start to feel a little bit misinformed.
