The hits just keep on coming!

Poll: Majority Believe Joe Biden Incapable of Leading the Country
A majority of respondents to a Wednesday Politico/Morning Consult poll said they believe President Joe Biden was incapable of leading the country.
When asked whether Biden is capable of leading the nation through 40-year high inflation, supply chain woes, and illegal immigrants flooding the southern border, only 22 percent strongly agree Biden is capable of leading the nation. Forty percent strongly believe Biden is not capable, and 51 percent overall disagreed with the notion that he is capable of leading the country.

They say ignorance is bliss and as Joe Biden suggested yesterday, he has "no idea" why his poll numbers are so bad. Of course he also suggested that he didn't believe in polls and apparently he believes some of his policies are popular in spite of polls saying the opposite. It makes you wonder if his handlers simply are keeping the truth from him, or if he is suffering from a break from reality.

Not sure his presser helped much yesterday. He was able to skirt the fine line of appearing both confused, frustrated, and angry all at the same time. Someone really needs to explain to him that we are still millions of jobs "down" from where we were pre-covid so it's arguable that we simply are still just recovering jobs (not adding any). Unemployment is low largely because of how many people have left the job market. Afghanistan was about whether it was a good idea to get out, but rather did we completely fuck up how we went about it.

Maybe this is all he is capable of.

Maybe Joe Biden has no ability to fix anything.

Maybe all he can do is spend the next three years trying to convince people that failure is success or possibly hope that things turn around on their own so he can take some credit.

Ralph "strap on" Maddow:

"With all the talk about Putin and him talking about … the question of whether Putin is going to invade Ukraine might … be decided by which side of the bed Putin wakes up on – and all this stuff about trying to get Putin's head. One part of me wondered if he was trying to sort of ape Putin's annual press conference thing where he does these sort of feats of strength. He does these feats of stamina showing how long that he can continue to go taking these questions. So that was part of it."

https://www.foxnews.com/media/maddow-biden-used-long-press-conference-show-putin-he-has-stamina

Two hours of not just softball, but cotton balls the size of beach balls questions shows Putin his "stamina" as he green lights Putin's invasion of Ukraine.

The measure of the failure of Slow Joe's presser can be gauged by the Mount Everest - sized piles of bullshit being dumped upon us today to explain it away.

What's really behind the "Let's make voter fraud legal" legislation -

Democrats resent the whole premise behind elections. Look, they don't believe they should have to persuade anybody to agree with them. Therefore, they don't believe in campaigns. They don't believe in the free, open exchange of ideas. ...

Elections are the result of persuading millions of people to support you. They resent having to do that. ... They can't persuade a majority of Americans to support Black Lives Matter. ... They can't persuade a majority of Americans to go along with their ideas on guns and eliminating free speech. ...

Those are things they're gonna have to force on people, and they are more than willing and eager to force that stuff on you, but they need the power to do it... The modern-day Democrats have to go through the motions of campaigning, and they have to go through the motions of trying to win the hearts and minds of voters. But they resent the hell out of it.

And in their world, it's the one thing standing in their way: This need, this requirement to win elections. And I'm just telling you: As soon as they can figure out a way to eliminate elections, they will do it.

Covidtests.gov is off to a strong start but big hurdle awaits

(CNN) - The Tuesday news that the Biden administration's free rapid Covid-19 test site had gone online a day early, part of a quiet beta launch to test the site, rocketed through social media with such intensity that I was sure the site would crash.
I was already skeptical -- my experience of new government websites is forever tarnished by the debacle of healthcare.gov's initial crash and burn. Plus, when I logged on, I knew I only had a few minutes between meetings, and I've never met a government website that didn't require two forms of ID, proof of residency and endless forms to fill out.
Still, I clicked. Two minutes later, I had an email telling me that the tests would be on their way in a few weeks.
While I can't remember the last time I encountered a government website that worked, I do remember having a similar feeling last spring, when suddenly vaccines were being competently distributed, appointments were plentiful and safety seemed on the horizon. Alas, the rise of the Delta and Omicron variants since then, and the lack of a robust response from our leaders as cases surged, has made it harder to feel optimistic in a way that lasts.
Putting all the doom we've been through aside for a moment, the relative ease of the website -- combined with the sense that the Biden administration is newly recommitted to providing resources to Americans -- feels like it could be a sign of brighter days ahead.
That's assuming the United States Postal Service has recovered sufficiently from cuts under the Trump administration and is up to the task. On the one hand, this is a moment that will reassure us that direct government action in mitigating the pandemic can work. On the other, if it does work, it raises the question of why the federal government isn't doing more.
For instance, the Biden administration announced Tuesday that N95 masks are going to be distributed for free through pharmacies, but why not just add them as an option to the test site? And, speaking of the test site, critics have rightly pointed out that the limit of four tests per address neglects the reality of many Americans' lives, where multiple family members and/or generations co-reside.
But the testing site's simplicity stirs in me a belief that while imperfect, government response isn't something we should give up on just yet. Just in case logging on to websites providing government services isn't a part of your daily routine, I can tell you that as the parent of a child on Medicaid, government websites and forms are usually not simple.
Our government is packed with what some call "administrative burdens" that make accessing services more difficult; bureaucratic hurdles that weed out those who lack the access, resources, or sufficient fortitude to overcome them. Just take, for example, the plan to get reimbursed by insurance for rapid tests purchased from retailers -- but only up to $12 per test kit, and only if we save and submit receipts and only for those of us who have insurance. The tests are most effective when used repeatedly over a few days after a possible exposure, and these burdens are just enough of an obstacle that they will keep some, perhaps many, people from buying tests or using up the tests they already have, not wanting to deal with insurance (because, really, who does want to deal with insurance?), and these tests are most effective if used repeatedly over a few days when you think you might have been exposed to Covid. Covidtests.gov, on the other hand, is easy.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

And it seems like it could scale. In a few weeks, we'll all have four tests, but the government will have the infrastructure to send us four more, or 40 more, as the pandemic drags on (and if or when a new variant appears). Which is good, because four isn't remotely sufficient to be useful on a population level.
It also signals a willingness to intervene more directly. Dr. Steven Thrasher, author of the forthcoming book "The Viral Underclass: The Human Toll When Inequality and Disease Collide," told me over direct message that this was the first time where the federal government has given away a product related to fighting the pandemic that was normally sold in stores. "They've been giving away vaccines," he said, "but a vaccine isn't really a retail pocket. A home test is. So, it's significant that people are not going to have to go to a store to buy them."

Throughout the pandemic, individuals have been pressed to shoulder what should be collective burdens. I'm pretty well informed, but don't have the expertise to judge what N95, KN95 or KF94 mask to use, even if I can afford them in large quantities. I bought a bunch of rapid tests in July when my family got an early Delta case of breakthrough Covid, but since then it's been unpredictable when and where to get more. These are problems that the federal government, with its awesome power and resources, is much better positioned to solve compared to the 120 million or so American families to doing it on their own.

So these are the stakes of covidtests.gov. The tech has to function. The bugs (especially around some apartment buildings) need to be ironed out quickly. Americans need to take advantage of the program. And then the Biden administration has to decide, or be pushed to decide, to do this kind of thing much more often.
So, in a couple of weeks, assuming the post office can make it through snow, rain, heat or gloom of night, they aren't just going to be delivering tests. They'll be delivering a whole new way of fighting the pandemic: doing it together rather than separately. If it works, they'll be bringing hope.
I hope it works.

The committee also said it has information that Ivanka Trump was enlisted by other White House aides to get her father to call off his supporters while they were ransacking the Capitol that day.
The committee is requesting a voluntary interview with her to discuss these and other topics related to its investigation, the letter said.

President Biden has been clear with the Russian President: If any Russian military forces move across the Ukrainian border, that’s a renewed invasion, and it will be met with a swift, severe, and united response from the United States and our Allies. President Biden also knows from long experience that the Russians have an extensive playbook of aggression short of military action, including cyberattacks and paramilitary tactics. And he affirmed today that those acts of Russian aggression will be met with a decisive, reciprocal, and united response.

The Washington Post’s Ashley Parker tweeted “Biden was supposed to be the anti-Trump — steady, stable, competent. But the chaotic Afghanistan withdrawal undercut that image, and facing a cascade of crises — covid, etc — Biden has never been able to recover.” Parker is seemingly unaware that Joe Biden is facing multiple crises of his own making. On top of that, often Joe Biden is the crisis, as demonstrated during his marathon Wednesday presser.

This is not the president that was elected a year ago — and certainly not the ideal one that so many DC pundits had concocted in their own heads.

He and his administration were elected to “shut down” a virus that he has for the most part ignored since July, when he declared “masked or vaxxed” and then stuck his foot in a hole in Afghanistan. His administration handlers ensured that the defining image from the Kabul catastrophe was footage of him turning his back to the American people, as he refused to answer questions about the manner of the troops’ withdrawal. We were told that Joe Biden was elected because of his empathy and competence. The commentators who told us that have since learned that he has neither quality.

Joe Biden is not suddenly going to become coherent when he speaks to the press. He can’t make Vladimir Putin back down by whipping out his aviators and heading to the nearest ice cream parlor. The pundits who bought the gingerly grandpa act may be praying that he can capture any fleeting fairy dust bestowed upon him by Barack Obama’s pop-culture prowess. But that won’t transform Biden into someone able to “shut down the virus.”

David Brooks thinks Biden needs to “begin revamping his presidency.” “Jennifer Rubin claims that “Biden needs a reset.” Frankly, any paid pundit begging for Biden to become the fantastical wise elder statesman they fantasized about should keep their thoughts to themselves. The rest of us should ignore their “expertise” when making any serious assessment of this defeated old man’s tenure.

The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot sent a letter Thursday to Ivanka Trump requesting her cooperation with the investigation.

Driving the news: "We write to request your voluntary cooperation with our investigation on a range of critical topics," the chair wrote in a letter to the former president's daughter.

Why it matters: The chair's comments come two weeks after the Jan. 6 committee said that they have "firsthand testimony" that Ivanka Trump asked her father "at least twice" to "'please stop this violence'" during the riot.

What they're saying: "Ivanka Trump just learned that the January 6 Committee issued a public letter asking her to appear," an Ivanka Trump spokesperson said in a statement to Axios.

"As the Committee already knows, Ivanka did not speak at the January 6 rally. As she publicly stated that day at 3:15pm, ‘any security breach or disrespect to our law enforcement is unacceptable. The violence must stop immediately. Please be peaceful,'" the spokesperson said.

Catch up quick: Chair of the committee Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) suggested Thursday that the panel's request for Ivanka's cooperation in the investigation was forthcoming.

"You will anticipate the committee inviting some people to come talk to us," Thompson told reporters in the Capitol, adding, "not lawmakers right now — Ivanka Trump."Thompson also said that he expects more witnesses and subpoenas to be called in the investigation, without giving a timeline on the process.

This is a very great idea, because another Insurrection, is impossible to reverse the electoral college votes.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy on Thursday joined his Senate counterpart in entertaining potential reform of the 135-year-old law that Donald Trump allies used to fuel their case against certification of the 2020 election.

When asked about the prospects of a bipartisan revision of the Electoral Count Act, pitched by members of both parties as a meaningful response to the Jan. 6 riot by Trump supporters, McCarthy told reporters he sees "nothing wrong" with exploring the idea.

“Just like any bill out there, in every Congress, we look at an old piece of law. So you can always modernize it and others,” the California Republican said at his weekly press conference. “There's nothing wrong with looking at any piece of legislation. I would think we'd look at a lot of things and make things accountable.”

The comments, though mild, are particularly notable as GOP and Democratic senators begin talks on an update to the 1887 Electoral Count measure, which governs the congressional certification of presidential balloting that pro-Trump rioters interrupted last year. The bipartisan Senate discussions are still in their early stages but are expected to gain steam after Democrats failed Wednesday to change chamber rules to pass much broader elections and voting reform.

Minority House leader McCarthy supports reform.

The hits keep coming. Law@crime.

Fulton County’s top prosecutor requested a special grand jury on Thursday to investigate former President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results.

If allowed to proceed, the secret panel would be allowed to probe Trump’s infamous phone call urging Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) to “find 11,780 votes,” but it would not be empowered to return an indictment.

“If you are trying to keep a politically advantageous investigation process going as long as possible without making an indictment, this is what you would do,” Atlanta-based defense attorney Andrew Fleischman, who works for the firm Ross & Pines, LLC, told Law&Crime in a phone interview.

“Sole Agency with Jurisdiction That Is Not a Potential Witness”

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis (D) made her request in a two-page letter to the Superior Court’s Chief Judge Christopher S. Brasher.

“Please be advised that the District Attorney’s Office has received information indicating a reasonable probability that the State of Georgia’s administration of elections in 2020, including the State’s election of the President of the United States, was subject to possible criminal disruptions,” Willis wrote.

On Trump’s phone call with Raffensperger, the former president complained that a U.S. Attorney whom he called a “never Trumper” did not endorse his baseless election-fraud claims. The Southern District of Georgia’s then-U.S. Attorney Byung “BJay” Pak was replaced “by order of the president” two days later, and Pak later told the Senate that Trump would have fired him if he did not resign. Pak’s replacement Bobby Christine, previously of the Northern District of Georgia,

Willis cited Trump’s far-flung efforts to overturn Georgia’s election as the reason her office is best-placed to investigate.

“Our office has also learned that individuals associated with these disruptions have contacted other agencies empowered to investigate this matter, including the Georgia Secretary of State, the Georgia Attorney General, and the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia, leaving this office as the sole agency with jurisdiction that is not a potential witness to conduct related to the matter,” she wrote.

According to the letter, Raffensperger—an essential witness to the investigation—told Willis’s office that he would not voluntarily agree to an interview or provide evidence without a subpoena.

Willis asked the judge to empanel a “special purpose grand jury” to investigate the “facts and circumstances relating directly or indirectly to possible attempts to disrupt the lawful administration of the 2020 elections in the State of Georgia.” She noted such a panel will “not have the authority to return an indictment but may make recommendations concerning criminal prosecution as it shall see fit.”

Grateful that no matter what I’ll work on as Press Secretary today, I won’t have to issue a statement explaining that ACTUALLY, my boss didn’t mean it when he said Russia has the green light to invade Ukraine as long as it’s just a “minor incursion”

King Trump has been decrownd!

“A Victory for the Rule of Law”

Trump also reportedly opposed releasing the White House Daily Diary and a call log between him and then-Vice President Mike Pence concerning Jan. 6.

Trump’s theories were swiftly rebuked at every level of the federal judiciary. U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan told Trump that “Presidents are not kings, and plaintiff is not president.” Ch thinks he is still The President.

In a joint statement the committee’s vice chair Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), Thompson wrote: “The Supreme Court’s action tonight is a victory for the rule of law and American democracy.”

“The Select Committee has already begun to receive records that the former President had hoped to keep hidden and we look forward to additional productions regarding this important information,” the bipartisan lawmakers continued. “Our work goes forward to uncover all the facts about the violence of January 6th and its causes. We will not be deterred in our effort to get answers for the American people, make legislative recommendations to strengthen our democracy, and help ensure nothing like that day ever happens again.”

When a democracy can no longer hold free and fair national elections, viewed as legitimate by winners and losers…it’s no longer a functional democracy.

All those 2020 shenanigans followed by democrats blatantly trying to make them permanent and eliminate election integrity has brought us real close to this point

Here is the reality.

If Ivanka and the other Trump siblings are "willing" to sit down with anyone it's because they have nothing to hide. Unless you believe that they secretly want to implicate their father to some crime.

Biden and Voter Expectations

January 20, 2022 at 2:15 pm EST By Taegan Goddard 112 Comments

This piece is only available to Political Wire members.

According to the latest NBC News poll, President Biden has the weakest rating on meeting voter expectations of any president over the last 30 years.

Just 5% say he is performing “better than expected,” the lowest ever, while 36% say he is doing “worse than expected,” the highest ever.

This is pretty clear proof that Biden has over-promised and under-delivered during his first year in office.

Further proof that I can think for myself.

I agree with

“The decision will enable Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia to send Javelin antitank weapons and Stinger air-defense systems for Ukraine’s forces.”
