Trump wins CPAC 2024 GOP presidential nomination straw poll, with DeSantis second

Trump captured 59% of ballots cast, DeSantis received 28% in the anonymous online straw poll
Trump, who’s repeatedly flirted with making another presidential run in 2024 to try and return to the White House, captured 59% of ballots cast in the anonymous online straw poll, according to results announced by CPAC on Sunday afternoon. The former president, who remains the most popular and influential politician in the Republican Party as he continues to play a kingmaker's role in GOP primaries, won 55% support a year ago in the CPAC Orlando straw poll.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis came in a distant second in the new survey, at 28%, up from his 21% standing in both CPAC straw polls from last year. No one else among the 19 names listed on the ballot cracked 2%. Trump’s strong performance comes on the unscientific survey as no surprise. CPAC, long the largest and most influential gathering of conservatives, has become a Trump-fest since his 2016 presidential election victory.

Funny thing how liberals keep suggesting that Trump is losing his hold of the Party and celebrating as if this is a good thing for them, even as they suggest that he is the worst candidate that the GOP could offer.  So if he is such a bad candidate, why do they root so hard against him winning the nomination and/or hoping he gets charged with some crime prior to 2024.  Almost seems like they are afraid to see him as the nominee.

At the end of the day, he is still going to be favored for both the GOP nomination and the general election if he decides to run again. Unless, of course, the Democrats can find new leadership between now and then.

It is with feelings of deep humility that I am following what is now happening. Does anyone know the status of the possible talks that may be taking place?

Read this entire article and look at the video. You may feel humbled by it as I do.

I see this:

"The Kremlin also said Russia was sending a delegation to Belarus for peace talks. But Ukraine's president rejected the location, which was used as a staging ground for Russian troops."

Ukrainian and Russian officials will meet for peace talks "without preconditions," President Volodymyr Zelensky announced.

Ukrainian Presidency/Handout

Ukraine has agreed to meet Russian officials for peace talks, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Sunday — before quickly admitting he expects any discussions to prove futile.

“We agreed that the Ukrainian delegation would meet with the Russian delegation without preconditions on the Ukrainian-Belarusian border, near the Pripyat River,” Zelensky said in a statement, with a top Ukraine official adding that the talks are set for Monday.

But within hours of making the announcement, Ukraine’s defiant president openly questioned the chances of success."

In all humility, I can imagine that after being told repeatedly that the Russians were NOT going to invade, Zelensky could have considerable difficulty trusting anything they say.

Ch, how do you now assess the situation?

Looking at the video in the article above, I would have to imagine that there have been numerous deaths among the attackers, and probably on both sides.

Roger expressed the opinion that this might work:

As fighting continues between Ukrainian and Russian troops, Israeli Prime Minister Nafatali Bennett offered to mediate between Moscow and Kyiv in a telephone call Sunday with Russian President Vladimir Putin
_________

But I believe I read in the Israel Times that Putin has already rejected that offer.

Again Reverend...

It could be (as I suggested) that Putin is getting desperate. While I will respect the opinion of the military person here, he sort of betrays his own argument.

1) He argues that Russia is not doing a good job refueling or backing up the first wave logistically with supplies.

2) He then suggests that the fact that they are coming in with new fuel tankers and more heavy artillery is proving his point?

Let us assume that there is a three mile convoy coming with fuel, ammo and other logistical support and the heavy infantry (tanks, missile launchers, etc) are there to protect the fuel, ammo, etc as suggested.

First, that seems unlikely as Ukraine does not have any troops out there to attack them. Secondly, wouldn't this sort of convoy actually be solving at least in part some of these problems? If they truly have a three miles stretch of new ammo, new fuel, and new supplies... then that provides them with the means to continue their siege for at least several more days.

More to the point, if they can bring in this sort of backup fuel, supplies, etc 5 days into this, then it is likely that they can probably continue to do this moving forward. This would appear to shows that they have the supply lines to supply their troops on the front line. (something that the Ukrainian troops will not have as they run out of ammo and supplies).

Sure, the west are offering all sorts of help with equipment and such, but when pressed, they are still trying to figure out how to get it to them. Which is why this needed to be done weeks ago.

The other likely scenario (however) is that this convoy is both bring fuel and such to the current fighters as well as bringing in additional troops and heavy artillery to add to the mix.

THis is a three mile convoy and as such is going to have either a lot of supplies or a lot of new artillery and troops...

Either is bad news in my humble opinions.

You have the right to try to put a more positive spin on this than the General did.
