Why? Because they can and because Democrats deserve it!

Republicans look to punish Democrats for school mask mandates
Republicans have stepped up pressure on Democrats to ditch mask mandates in K-12 schools, pointing to new signs the public is growing weary of pandemic restrictions and citing the detrimental effects they have on children’s development. A group of Republican House members led by Minority Whip Steve Scalise of Louisiana and Kentucky’s James Comer, ranking member of House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, asked the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to lift masking recommendations for school children.

Parent being arrested at school board meeting

“Across the country, bureaucrats are still forcing young children to wear masks to participate in society when neither kids nor vaccinated adults are remotely likely to get gravely ill,” he said. “What exactly are we doing here? Where are the goalposts? What is the endgame?" Children are just as susceptible to coronavirus infection as adults but are far less likely to become seriously ill. Up to 50% of children who catch COVID-19 might not have any symptoms, according to the Mayo Clinic.
"After nearly two years in this pandemic, we have better risk mitigation strategies and vaccines, and we know much more about the efficacy of requiring children to wear masks all day," Miyares said in a press release. "Parents know what is best for their children and should be able to decide if their children wear a mask for eight hours a day."

The interesting thing was that much of the success Democrats have had in recent years came from suburban parents who had been slowly moving over towards Democrats. Much of this had to do with priorities on education, child credits, and things Democrats were doing that were aimed at suburban parents. But over the past couple of years, Democrats (as they loved to do) decided that these new voters could be taken for granted and pushed around.

For decades now, this has been a successful strategy for Democrats with minorities. Take them for granted, keep them in need of or wanting more Government assistance, and demand Republicans were their enemies.  But this sort of strategy does not work with suburban parents who have a different set of priorities and have a longer history of being conservative than liberal. It seems that recently, Democrats are trying desperately to remind these suburban voters exactly why they used to be conservative.

Unlike some of your traditional Democratic constituents, suburban parents do not want to rely on the government and do not want to be controlled by the Government. They don't mind the government helping them out, but for the most part they are independent minded people who still want to be in charge of their own lives and be in charge of raising their own children.

But recently liberals (as liberals love to do) have been dismissive of this independence, while arrogantly telling these parents that they (liberal Democratic politicians and their liberal stronghold organizations) know better than parents what is best for their children. Trust me when I say that this doesn't sit well with parents in general.

Certainly not with the independent swing voter parent who will decide the upcoming elections.

Democrats are losing suburban parents the same way they lost the working class. Over-reach. Going so far left normal people recoil from them as people who has lost their fucking marbles and belong in an asylum.

There's nothing subtle about modern-day leftism, and they demand absolute and total fealty.

You want to see some rioting and a large swath of Americans go totally fucking apeshit?

Watch what happens if the democrats lose both the House AND the Senate.

N.J. Governor to End School Mask Mandate in Move to ‘Normalcy’
For the first time since the start of the pandemic, New Jersey districts will be permitted to allow students and teachers to stop wearing masks.

Gov. Philip D. Murphy of New Jersey, a Democrat who has imposed some of the nation’s most stringent pandemic-related mandates, will no longer require students and school employees to wear masks, signaling a deliberate shift toward treating the coronavirus as a part of daily life.

Mr. Murphy, the vice chairman of the National Governors Association, said on Sunday that he would officially announce the elimination of the mandate on Monday afternoon. The new policy will take effect the second week of March, two years after New York and New Jersey became early epicenters of a virus that has since mutated and resurged, killing more than 900,000 people nationwide.

The debate over mask wearing in schools has proved one of the most divisive issues in the pandemic, embroiling parents, school boards, teachers and elected officials in caustic clashes over academic loss, protecting public health and individual choice.

Mr. Murphy’s move follows a decision last month by the Democratic governor of Pennsylvania, Tom Wolf, to rescind his state’s school mask mandate. The Democratic governors of New York and Connecticut also said last week that they were re-evaluating school mask mandates that are soon set to expire.

An average of 78 New Jersey residents died each day from Covid-19 in the last week, contributing to a daily nationwide death toll of 2,600, a per capita rate that far exceeds those of other wealthy nations.

But new cases of the highly contagious Omicron variant are plummeting in New Jersey and across the country.

Last week, after meeting with President Biden at the White House during an annual governors conference, Mr. Murphy suggested it was time to reconsider how to manage the virus. “The overwhelming sentiment on both sides of the aisle,” he said on Wednesday, “is we want to get to a place where we can live with this thing in as normal a fashion as possible.”

Given his experience in governing don't be surprised by Sleepy Joe Biden, will support state deregulation.

Most of the states that still mandate masking are Republicans.

Masks mandates are dropped in many districts that reinstated them earlier in the year as schools grappled with staff and student absences during the now-receding omicron wave of the pandemic.

Still, many administrators are keeping mandates in place to prevent students and staff from having to quarantine after cases are identified in the community.

Here’s a state-by-state roundup of where masks are mandated and where they are optional:

ALABAMA: Decatur City Schools will require masks after the district returns from remote learning on Jan. 24 until Feb. 8. Hoover City Schools mandated masks on Jan. 12 after administrators determined contract tracing become unmanageable. Madison City Schools reimposed its mask mandate on Jan. 4, until further notice.

ALASKA: Anchorage Public Schools has required face coverings for all students, staff and visitors.

ARIZONA: The Phoenix Union High School District and Phoenix Elementary School District have mandated masks.

ARKANSAS: Fort Smith Public Schools on Jan. 10 reinstated a mask requirement for the next 30 days. Fayetteville Public Schools is requiring all persons on all campuses to wear masks until further notice.

CALIFORNIA: California requires all students to wear masks.

MAP: Districts’ operational status across the U.S.

COLORADO: Weld Re-4 School District made masks optional on Jan. 13.

Denver Public Schools is requiring all students and staff to wear masks indoors, regardless of vaccination status. Jeffco Public Schools and the Poudre School District are also requiring masks.

CONNECTICUT: An executive order remains in place that requires universal masking in all school buildings.

DELAWARE: Gov. John Carney extended a statewide school mask mandate until Feb. 8.

GEORGIA: Dublin City Schools made masks optional on Jan. 31. Fayette County Public Schools made masks optional on Jan. 25, Fox5Atlanta.com reported. Masks are also now optional in Fulton County Schools.

DeKalb County School District has mandated masks for the second semester of the 2021-22 school year. Masks will be optional in the Dooly County School System as of Jan. 4. Dublin City Schools made masks optional on Dec. 13.

HAWAII: “Masks must always be worn correctly and consistently by all students and staff when indoors,” the state’s Department of Education says on its website.

Lies Are the Building Blocks of Trumpian Authoritarianism

William Saletan:
“But that’s not how authoritarianism would come to America. In fact, it’s not how authoritarianism has come to America. The movement to dismantle our democracy is thriving and growing, even after the failure of the Jan. 6th coup attempt, because it isn’t spreading through overt rejection of our system of government. It’s spreading through lies.

“It turns out that you don’t have to renounce any of our nation’s founding principles to betray them.

All you have to do is believe lies:
*that real ballots are fake,
*that prosecutors are criminals,
*and that insurrectionists are political prisoners.

"Once you believe these things,
*you’re ready to disenfranchise your fellow citizens in the name of democracy.
*You’re ready to cover up crimes in the name of fighting corruption.
*You’re ready to liberate coup plotters in the name of justice.”

“And that’s where we are.
Donald Trump and his party have sold these lies to more than 100 million Americans.
He has built an army of authoritarian followers who think they’re saving the republic.”

AND NOW LET'S JUST PUT IT ANOTHER WAY:
“Conservatism is no longer about what you actually believe,
it’s about how intensely you’re loyal to Donald Trump.”

It’s not every day that Canada becomes the red-hot center of a global protest movement.

But what started as a rally of Canadian truckers angry at cross-border vaccine mandates has fast become a magnet for far-right grievances around the world.

The protests in Ottawa are now into their second week, with hundreds of trucks clogging the streets of the capital and large groups of protesters building camps for the long haul. The city's mayor has declared a state of emergency. Local law enforcement has vowed to crack down on the "increasingly dangerous" protests.

But while the Canadian standoff against Covid-19 restrictions paralyzes Ottawa, it’s becoming viral online as a rallying cry for leading U.S. Republican politicians, far-right influencers and white supremacist groups who have transposed the criticism of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government to an international audience for their own political gain.

Politicians from former President Donald Trump to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) have championed the nationwide protests in Canada, which began in response to Ottawa's vaccine mandate for truckers entering Canada. It has quickly escalated into a global movement incorporating a loose set of anti-establishment causes, coordinated on social media and encrypted messaging groups.

Germany and the United States are in "lockstep" as they work to address tensions caused by Russia's troop buildup near Ukraine, U.S. President Joe Biden said as he welcomed German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at the White House.

Biden said on February 7 that Germany and the U.S. were working to further deter Russian aggression in Europe. Scholz said ahead of the meeting that the West was unified in its approach to the problem and would act swiftly and decisively if Russia invades Ukraine.

The White House meeting got under way after French President Emmanuel Macron began talks with Russia's Vladimir Putin in Moscow amid the fresh international diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions over Russia’s military buildup near Ukraine.

Scholz's visit to Washington is his first since succeeding Angela Merkel in December and it aims to raise Berlin’s profile as a mediator in the Ukraine crisis after the new German leader faced criticism for not agreeing to send weapons to Ukraine.

Before departing for Washington, Scholz repeated that Germany would not send weapons to Ukraine but said Berlin would be prepared to send troops to the Baltic states.

Germany leads a NATO operation in Lithuania and has about 500 soldiers stationed there. The German defense minister announced plans on February 7 to send up to 350 more troops to Lithuania.

Which is what happened here. You can have one or two people infiltrating a criminal empire to gather evidence... as long as those people are not the ones suggesting or planning the crimes. You cannot have the FBI "BE" the criminal empire, set up the crimes, and then arrest the people they recruit.

For 90% of conservatives or Republicans it has nothing to do with Trump anymore. It might be about Trump is he runs in 2024, but no more than it will be about Biden (or whomever the Democrats put up in 2024).

But most of those 90% are definitely willing to boot those Republicans who feel that they cannot continue to just move forward and be conservatives without bringing Trump and their hatred of the man into everything.

So no Kinzinger. You don't have to be loyal to Trump to be a Republican. But you also don't have to hate him and obsess about him and simply not let go of your own hatred and obsession. Which for people like Kinzinger and L. Cheney seems to be their own personal litmus test.

Trump asks NATO allies for help with Iran after years of bashing the allianceKlaus W. Larres, University of North Carolina at Chapel HillJanuary 8, 2020 5.22pm EST

U.S. President Donald Trump took a tough line in his address to the nation Jan. 8 in response to the Iranian airstrikes on two U.S. bases in Iraq.

rrb said...

You cannot have the FBI "BE" the criminal empire, set up the crimes, and then arrest the people they recruit.

Difference between infiltration and entrapment.

Donnie Brasco had to pull out of and shut down the operation because he was faced with having to commit a murder.

The FBI would not hesitate to commit that murder today, and as many other murders that they'd have to commit to achieve whatever fucked up goal they're in pursuit of these days.

rrb said...

Alky,

Trump called out the NATO alliance to get them to start paying their fair share.

Their involvement was virtually ALL training and not for battle:

German troops have been in Iraq since late 2015 to train Iraqi security forces in the fight against the Islamic State group. These troops are not meant to fight in the region.

After the killing of top Iranian Gen. Qassim Soleimani, the Germans withdrew to Kuwait some of their 120 troops stationed in Iraq. The Germans also announced that they may shift their remaining forces to Jordan or other safer areas.

Germany believes that saving the nuclear deal is still the only realistic way to engage with Iran and prevent Iran from restarting its nuclear weapons program.

Trump’s speech was also most likely viewed skeptically in London.

The British have 1,400 troops in Iraq and Syria for both training purposes and for fighting the Islamic State. They are uneasy about the increased danger to their military personnel since Trump’s airstrike on Soleimani which was not coordinated with London or NATO headquarters.

London also believes that the 2015 nuclear deal ought to be given another chance. Re-engagement with Iran rather than pursuing a war path is also the conviction in the U.K.. In fact this continues to be the shared view of diplomats from the U.K., Germany, France, China and Russia.

And less than a dozen actually had injuries significant enough to file a report of injury... But we did have a dead unarmed protester shot point blank while posing no actual physical danger to the officer. Shot her while she was crawling through a broken pane of glass in a door.

I guess had she been on lot's of Fentanyl, had a long criminal record, and was a different color perhaps people would have given a shit. But she was just an unarmed military veteran who had the misfortune of being white and therefor fair game to shoot.

This is why we need to reform the electoral college process.

In its first decision on this decade's congressional redistricting, the Supreme Court on Monday sided with Alabama's Republicans and blocked the creation of the new Black majority in the state.

By a 5-4 vote, the justices set aside for now a ruling by a panel of three judges, two of whom were Trump appointees, who said the state Republican-controlled legislature could have and should have drawn a second district that could elect a Back candidate to the U.S. House of Representatives.

They are afraid of African Americans who have the right to vote.

Pretty sure that guy was armed, Roger. Bit of a difference. It was also a SWAT team meaning it was considered a dangerous situation.

But leave it to you to defend a murder suspect and the armed people willing to engage a SWAT team. Perhaps you just prefer not to go after criminals because one of them might get hurt.

IS THE SUPREME COURT POLITICAL?

Supreme Court Lets GOP-Drawn Alabama Map Stand
February 7, 2022 at 5:30 pm EST By Taegan Goddard 64 Comments

“The Supreme Court,
in a 5-4 decision,
allowed a congressional map drawn by Alabama Republicans to remain in place Monday, freezing a lower court ruling that said the map likely violates the Voting Rights Act,”
CNN reports.

“The lower court had ordered a new map to be drawn, which could have led to Democrats gaining another seat in the House in the fall.”

Washington Post:
“The unanimous lower court panel noted that
over the past decade,
the number of White Alabamians had declined
while the state’s Black
population grew,
and now accounts for 27 percent of the state’s overall population.

"That means the state’s map should contain two districts with either Black majorities or ‘in which Black voters otherwise have an opportunity’ to elect representatives they favor.”
_________

SOUNDS POLITICAL TO ME.
NO MATTER HOW LARGE THE BLACK POPULATION'S PERCENTAGE, THEY ARE TO BE GERRYMANDERED OUT OF ANY OPPORTUNITY TO ELECT REPRESENTATIVES THEY WANT.

SIEG HEIL!!!

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minneapolis mayor imposed a moratorium on no-knock warrants Friday, two days after a SWAT team entered a downtown apartment and killed Amir Locke, a Black man who his parents said was "executed" after he was startled from a deep sleep and reached for a legal firearm to protect himself.

Mayor Jacob Frey said the moratorium immediately stops warrants in which police do not announce themselves, and said he and police leadership will work with national experts to review and revise department policy on no-knock warrants.

"No matter what information comes to light, it won't change the fact that Amir Locke's life was cut short," Frey said in a statement.

Locke's parents, Andre Locke and Karen Wells, described him Friday as respectful, including to police, and said some of their relatives work in law enforcement. Wells said the couple coached their son on how to act and do "what they needed to do whenever they encountered police officers" because of the danger to "unarmed Black males."

"My son was executed on 2/2 of 22," Wells said. "And now his dreams have been destroyed."

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California will end its indoor masking requirement for vaccinated people next week but masks still are the rule for schoolchildren, state health officials announced Monday amid rapidly falling coronavirus cases.

After Feb. 15, unvaccinated people still will be required to be masked indoors, and everyone — vaccinated or not — will have to wear masks in higher-risk areas like public transit and nursing homes and other congregate living facilities, officials said. Local governments can continue their own indoor masking requirements and last week Los Angeles County’s health officials said they intend to keep theirs in place beyond the state deadline.

State officials also announced that Indoor “mega events” with more than 1,000 people will have to require vaccinations or negative tests for those attending and those who are unvaccinated will be required to wear masks. For outdoor events with more than 10,000 people, there is no vaccination requirement but masks or negative tests are recommended.

But I find it difficult to suggest that a Republican State must actually gerrymander new districts that create another Democratic District or be called racist.

Right now the new map would not add or subtract from what it was in 2020. In fact the new map hardly changes and is not looking to gerrymander any new seats for the GOP.

Again with the hypocrisy here. You are fine when California or New York literally gerrymanders to create several new seats for Democrats because they feel justified because they are literally losing seats to other red states (because of population movement) and because so many State are run by Republicans and they feel it is their duty to make up for it.

But that is what we expect now, huh? Fake honesty for a fake Reverend?

Ohio Supreme Court Again Rejects New Maps

Columbus Dispatch: “The court gave the commission until Feb. 17 to approve a new map that reflects the 54% Republican, 46% Democrat voting preferences split over the past decade.”

Kansas Senate Fails to Override Veto of New Map

“The Kansas Senate was stuck Monday afternoon as a Republican effort to override Gov. Laura Kelly’s (D) veto of the congressional redistricting map stalled amid division in their caucus and absenteeism,” the Topeka Capital-Journal reports.

“Republican senators have thus far failed to outright override Kelly’s veto, coming up three votes short of the needed two-thirds majority with two lawmakers not in attendance.”

This is the reason why no knock warrants should be forbidden.

Body-cam footage shows some inconsistencies with the original police report.
On Friday, February 4, the Hennepin County medical examiner released its official findings, ruling Locke’s death a homicide, and the Minneapolis Police Department released body-cam footage from the shooting. The short video released includes the first ten or so seconds of the raid, ending abruptly after the shots are fired. The officer who shot Locke appears to be just out of frame, and the moments just before the shooting have been slowed down at multiple speeds. The video shows police entering the apartment, announcing their presence only when they have already entered safely. Once in the apartment, one officer kicks the couch where Locke was sleeping, prompting him to wake up, seemingly confused. Wrapped in a white blanket, you can see Locke holding a gun, though it does not appear to be pointed at any officers in the frame, nor does it seem that Locke even knew he was being surrounded by police.

You still cheer the 22-5 New York gerrymandering rewrite - even though a fair assessment of their voting preference (61-39) would garner a 15-12 or 16-11 Democrat to GOP advantage?
