A new Reuters/Ipsos poll shows an overwhelming majority of Americans (74%) support establishing a no-fly zone over Ukraine, banning U.S. imports of Russian oil (80%), and imposing further penalties on the Russian economy (81%).
Some 74% of Americans - including solid majorities of Republicans and Democrats - said the United States and its allies in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization should impose a no-fly zone in Ukraine, the poll found.
An equally bipartisan 80% of Americans said the United States should stop buying Russian oil. The White House on Friday said it was weighing cuts to U.S. imports of Russian oil, though it is proceeding cautiously, concerned about a spike in gasoline prices that would add to high inflation.
Unlike many of the sheep here who follow exactly what they are told by their political leaders, three quarter of Americans want to establish a no-fly Zone over Ukraine. Apparently they use the same logical thinking that if the Russians are struggling to win a war with Ukraine, then how is it that they will want to push the conflict to include NATO troops. One incident involving a NATO country pilot could lead to a forceful offensive assault on Russian troops (many of whom would be very vulnerable to such an assault).
Ironically our out of touch politicians are pretty much peeing their pants in frozen fear over what Putin might do. Only Joe Manchin seems to have the courage to step up and push for a more active role.
Now I get it. These are Ukrainians halfway around the world. There is no attacks on small fake churches in Illinois or nursing homes in California. Liberals seem to care more about whether or not someone is properly wearing their face mask at the grocery store than they do if some shrapnel rips off someone's face in Ukraine.
Because that is what the crazy left liberals care about these days.

Europe Not Likely to Ban Russian Energy
March 7, 2022 at 11:47 am EST By Taegan Goddard
“Top European leaders said Monday that they recognize the need to reduce the continent’s dependence on Russian energy but stressed that an immediate embargo would not be feasible,”
Axios reports.
HOWEVER
“Under pressure from Congress and the Ukrainian government, the Biden administration may move to ban Russian oil imports on a unilateral basis if the U.S. cannot immediately bring along its European allies.”
SO IT LOOKS LIKE THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION MAY DO THE RIGHT THING EVEN IF IT'S PAINFUL POLITICALLY.
Everything President Magoo touches continues to turn to shit...
Russian diplomat Mikhail Ulyanov praised Iranian negotiators ahead of the public announcement of an updated deal that would presumably reduce international sanctions on their oil and gas in exchange for limiting their civilian nuclear program.
"Iranian colleagues are fighting for [their] national interest like lions," he said. "They fight for every comma, every word, and as a rule, quite successfully."
"I am absolutely sincere in this regard when I say that Iran got much more than it could expect," he said. "Our Chinese friends were also very efficient and useful as co-negotiators."
"I can recollect dozens of such cases when on rather serious, significant questions, we managed together to get positive results close to what we wanted to achieve," he said according to this video from Polaris NatSec

Hate for Putin’s Russia Consumes Ukraine
March 7, 2022 at 11:37 am EST By Taegan Goddard
New York Times:
“It is a deep, seething bitterness for President Vladimir V. Putin,
his military
and his government.
But Ukrainians are not giving a pass to ordinary Russians, either,
calling them complicit through years of political passivity.
"The hatred is vented by mothers in bomb shelters,
by volunteers preparing to fight on the front lines,
by intellectuals and by artists.
“The emotion is so powerful it could not be assuaged even by an Orthodox religious holiday on Sunday intended to foster forgiveness before Lent.”

But guess what, Ch.
We can't do it without NATO agreeing.
Personally, I would

That is not what you said yesterday as you quoted all sorts of Congress people telling you it was madness that would lead to WWIII.
So why the turnaround, Reverend?
Did this poll come across the Politcalwire.com stream and make you change your mind? Because not sure otherwise how you can structurally change your opinion on something like this in one day?
unless you are just following a different set of people today.
No, Ch. Stop lying.
It has all along been my position that as much as we would like to establish
a no fly zone, we cannot just fly in the face of our NATO partners who feel, as some of our own people do, that it would dangerously open the door to out and out war between us and Russia.
You want that?
I challenge you, Ch,

Oh for crying out loud Reverend...
You started the whole thing by DEMANDING from me what I would do differently than Biden. When I suggested a No-fly Zone... you supplied quotes from several congresspeople (including Marco Rubio) offering that a No Fly Zone would start WWIII.
I guess we can say that you were lying yesterday or lying today.
Doesn't matter to me.
I have been consistent and everyone knows it.
I'm not a huge fan of a no-fly zone enforced by the US, or any level of engagement that can be interpreted by Russia as an act of war.
Let the Europeans deal with this.
The very best way that we could help (but we won't) is to return to a full-on, unbridled US energy production plan.
Not only do we stop funding Putin's invasion with USD, we weaken Russia financially by providing Western Europe with an alternative to Russian NG to heat their homes and fuel their economies.
Let's send Fat-boy Vindman and crybaby Kinzinger over there to fly sorties over Ukraine. They're expendable.

Boy I remember a time when a United States President could make a forceful argument and be heard by other members of NATO. But when we elect leaders who are just there to walk behind and follow at a distance, then I guess this is what we get.

WASHINGTON, March 7 (Reuters) - The Biden administration is willing to move ahead with a ban on Russian oil imports into the United States without the participation of allies in Europe, two people familiar with the matter told Reuters, after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
President Joe Biden is expected to hold a video conference call with the leaders of France, Germany and the United Kingdom on Monday as his administration continues to seek their support for a ban on the imports.

The White House is also negotiating with congressional leaders who are working on fast-tracking legislation banning Russian imports, a move that is forcing the administration to work on an expedited timeline, a source told Reuters

US, Europe edge towards ban on Russian oil imports

WASHINGTON - International oil prices broke briefly through US$130 a barrel on Sunday (March 6) evening, their highest since 2008, as the United States and its European allies edged towards banning imports of Russian oil.
“We are now in very active discussions with our European partners about banning the import of Russian oil to our countries while, of course, at the same time maintaining a steady global supply,” US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Sunday.
The US would act in coordination with its allies, but would not “rule out taking action one way or another irrespective of what they (the allies) do”, he told cable channels.
“But (in) everything we’ve done, the approach starts with coordinating with allies and partners.”
Europe, however, is in a dilemma because of its dependence on Russian energy.
Russia, as the world’s third-biggest oil and second-largest gas producer, is a major supplier of oil and coal to Europe – around 27 per cent and 47 per cent of imports, respectively.
Europe is particularly vulnerable in terms of natural gas, getting around 40 per cent of its demand from Russia.
But now there is growing clamour to wean Europe off Russian energy.
European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen told CNN on Sunday: “The goal is to isolate Russia and to make it impossible for (Russian President Vladimir) Putin to finance his wars. For us, there is a strong strategy now to say we have to get rid of the dependency on fossil fuels from Russia.”
But German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Monday said the European Union’s energy needs could not be secured without Russian imports.
In Britain, Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said officials had been asked to explore the idea of a “ceiling” on Russian energy imports that would bring them down over time – mitigating the economic shock.
“Nobody is under any illusions any more,” International Energy Agency director Fatih Birol said last week.
“Russia’s use of its natural gas resources as an economic and political weapon shows Europe needs to act quickly to be ready to face considerable uncertainty over Russian gas supplies next winter.”
Ms Barbara Pompili, the minister for ecological transition of France, which currently holds the EU presidency, said: “More than ever, getting rid of Russian fossil fuels, and of fossil fuels in general, is essential.”
Japan is also reportedly considering halting imports of Russian oil, though the government in Tokyo is equally concerned about the domestic economic impact.
The US imports only around 8 per cent of its oil from Russia.
“US energy security is pretty good,” tweeted Dr Paul Sullivan, senior fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Global Energy Centre. “It is much better than that of the EU. We are not as dependent on outside oil as we once were. We are in much better shape than the EU (with regard to) oil and gas. We have good energy security for both.”
Meanwhile, in a move that has economies bracing themselves for inflationary pressure, Ukraine, one of the world’s leading producers and exporters of grain and vegetable oils, has introduced export licences for wheat, corn and sunflower oil, poultry and eggs.
Earlier, the government had suspended exports of rye, oats, millet, buckwheat, salt, sugar, meat, and livestock.
This is so much fun.

A no fly zone should be considered but only on demand from Ukraine armed forces.
According to some sources
Let's also be clear here Reverend...
To Rat's point, we could just as well stay out of this completely and let the Ukrainians fend for themselves and use this as an opportunity to make a tangible dent in the idea of real energy independence.
But as I prefaced this yesterday.
There are things that really need to happen if the goal is to actually push back the Russian forces out of Ukraine and make Putin pull them back with everyone's tail between their legs.
You either want the Ukrainians to win this war and are willing to do what that takes, or you just let it be. The half measures seem to be doing little more than prolonging things and prompting the Russians to step up their terror war criminal acts on innocent civilians targets.
Today I saw pictures of a fucking mall on fire. What the fuck? Do you go to a mall ever Reverend? Could you imagine if someone just blew it up in an act of war?
"A no fly zone should be considered but only on demand from Ukraine armed forces"
The President asked.
Biden Lead NATO said "NO".
WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON A NO FLY ZONE, ROGER?
A no fly zone should be considered but only on demand from Ukraine armed forces.
So how does that work Roger?

Trump Angry Over Shaky Launch of Truth Social

Donald Trump “has been grumbling about” his new social network’s shaky launch “behind the scenes, even as he’s tried to put on a brave face publicly,” the Daily Beast reports.
In recent weeks, sources have heard the former president on the phone swearing gratuitously and asking things like, “What the f**k is going on?”

Supporters of the request say Russia’s war on Ukraine, and particularly attacks on civilians, are intolerable and the risks of escalation are worth it.
Retired U.S. Air Force general Philip Breedlove, a past NATO supreme commander who supports imposing what he calls “a humanitarian no-fly zone” over Ukraine, acknowledged last week in an interview with NPR it would be “a big step.”
“A no-fly zone, if it is truly a military no-fly zone, is essentially an act of war,” he said. “If there are defense systems in the enemy’s territory that can fire into the no-fly zone, then we normally take those systems out, which would mean bombing into enemy territory.”
Is it worth the risk?????

“Russia shelled civilian targets and prevented people from escaping some cities under attack during the war’s 12th day, while Kyiv’s military held fast along several fronts ahead of planned cease-fire talks,” the Wall Street Journal reports.
“Continuing campaigns to encircle Ukrainian cities Monday, Russian forces conducted missile and rocket strikes on cities and military targets in the country’s north and south,
disrupting plans to evacuate civilians via humanitarian corridors…
Ukrainian forces continued to frustrate Russia with counterattacks and sabotage operations.”

Russia Tells Ukraine to Give Up Large Portions of Country
12:50 pm EST
“As Russian and Ukrainian delegations sat down for a third round of talks in Belarus,
the Kremlin reiterated Monday its demands that Ukraine give up Crimea and a large slice of eastern Ukraine as a condition for Russia to stop its attacks,” the Washington Post reports.
Ok, yawn.
SO WE COULD BE
SUPPORTING RUSSIA AGAINST UKRAINE?
How many times did Russia invade Ukraine during the Trump administration pederast?
And we were a net EXPORTER of fossil fuels then too.
Even Pelosi!@@@
Momentum is building on Capitol Hill to respond more aggressively to Russia’s war in Ukraine, with lawmakers urging President Joe Biden to increase military aid and ban Russian oil imports. “As President Biden has made crystal clear, American troops will not go to war in Ukraine,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wrote in a letter to Democratic colleagues Sunday. “But our nation can provide military equipment and support our allies who are supplying airplanes to Ukraine.”
The Biden administration has already been providing assistance and military aid to Ukraine — and, with NATO allies, punishing Russia with harsh sanctions, isolating Vladimir Putin on the world stage. But Pelosi and others in the House are pushing the White House to go farther, with lawmakers negotiating bipartisan legislation to “ban the import of Russian oil and energy products into the United States, repeal normal trade relations with Russia and Belarus, and take the first step to deny Russia access to the World Trade Organization.”
“Tragically, Russia continues its premeditated, unprovoked war against Ukraine: violating its sovereignty and territorial integrity, committing war crimes against civilians and engaging in disinformation about the purpose of their invasion,” Pelosi wrote. “The United States remains ironclad in our commitment to the Ukrainian people and in unity with our allies.”
The possibility of blocking oil imports, which Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a CNN interview Sunday is under discussion “as we speak,” represents a shift for the Biden administration. Last week, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the U.S. does not have a “strategic interest in reducing the global supply of energy,” telling reporters that banning Russian oil would “raise prices at the gas pump for the American people” — a significant domestic political issue for Biden. “That is certainly a big factor for the president,” Psaki said Thursday. But with lawmakers from both parties calling for an end to the carve-out, the administration opened the door to a ban. “We are now talking to our European partners and allies to look in a coordinated way at the prospect of banning the import of Russian oil while making sure that there is still an appropriate supply of oil on world markets,” Blinken told Jake Tapper on Sunday.
Pelosi also appeared to back a Senate proposal by New Hampshire Democrat Jeanne Shaheen and Ohio Republican Rob Portman for the U.S. to help “expedite the urgent transfer of aircraft to the Ukrainian Air Force” from other Eastern European countries. “Nine days into this war, the Ukrainian Air Force continues to bravely fly and resist the Russian advance,” Shaheen and Portman wrote in a letter Saturday, urging the Biden administration to increase supplies to Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky. “However, the costs of their bravery have been high and the size of their aircraft fleet has diminished. The Ukrainian Air Force is in dire need of additional aircraft to replace combat losses and continue defending the skies over Ukraine.”

To Rat's point, we could just as well stay out of this completely and let the Ukrainians fend for themselves and use this as an opportunity to make a tangible dent in the idea of real energy independence.
I've heard Russia described as a gas station with nuclear weapons. And that's largely correct. You want to hurt Putin? Crush his revenue stream. How do you do that? Steal his energy customers.
Just think that if Joey Magoo hadn't utterly destroyed all the progress we made as a nation towards not only energy independence but as a net exporter to Putin's current energy customer's, he wouldn't have the $$$ to afford to invade anyone.
We could do to him via energy what Reagan did to them militarily.
The people of Ukraine are voting with their lives!
The President is doing incredible well considering how much weight is he is bearing.
I suspect an oil ban will happen, and because we will get oil from Venezuela and dramatically increase the land availability in National Parks and even get the native Americans to allow drilling on reservations.
Our dementia president continues to follow from way behind while EU nations assume the world leadership that normally is put forth by U.S. presidents who aren't fumbling about. Even democrats are quite unhappy at how Biden is managing things.
He actually had acted to reduce our dependence on importing oil from Russia.
Since he’s taken office, Biden has put climate change front and center. He’s set an ambitious goal to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent from 2005 levels by the end of this decade, and he’s made a huge push on things like electric vehicle charging stations, offshore wind development and other clean energy production.
Over the past month, though, his administration has also taken some steps that really worry environmental groups. In at least three cases, the Biden administration has offered support in court or declined to block oil and gas projects that could lock in decades more of the fossil fuel pollution that is heating the planet. The most recent is the administration’s support for ConocoPhillips’s multibillion-dollar oil drilling project in Alaska’s National Petroleum Reserve, known as the Willow project, which was approved by the Trump administration and is slated to produce more than 100,000 barrels of oil a day for about 30 years.
That is false. The U.S. produces 1.2M barrels less than when Trump was president. Biden chose and still chooses, to buy from Russia. You don't get to invent your own alternative reality.
You have been brainwashed by the former President and the crazy conspiracies websites.
If he was not sane anymore, even the MSM would have reported it.

In an interview with Reuters on Monday, Peskov said Moscow could "end war immediately" if Ukraine agreed to sign a neutrality agreement that would bar it from entering NATO, recognized Crimea as Russian, recognized the regions of Luhansk and Donetsk as independent, and ceased all military action.
He told the news wire that negotiators on Ukraine's side "were told that all this can be stopped in a moment."

"We really are finishing the demilitarization of Ukraine," Peskov told Reuters. "We will finish it. But the main thing is that Ukraine ceases its military action. They should stop their military action and then no one will shoot.

Take it and run before Russia takes Kyiv... because at that point, they will demand that Kyiv become part of Belarus or Russia.
This looks to me as a complete and total concession from Putin. I am shocked they wouldn't ask for more. That being said, I have not seen the proposed borders for Luhansk and Donetsk. They probably extend down to the black sea and around much of that gulf and could go a few hundred miles into Ukraine.
Then we could get back to spending billions rebuilding all of the destroyed cities in Ukraine.

Reminds me of Trump trying to destroy the Affordable Care Act and replace it with something "better" only to give up on that because what would be "better" would have to be similar to what "Obamacare" had accomplished (it just didn't have Trump's name on it).
Reminds me also of Trump pulling the United States out of the "horrible" nuclear arms dealt with Iran, stating he would make a better deal, only to back away from that when it became clear that a "better" deal would have to encompass similarities to what Obama had already accomplished.
And if Trump had been elected president, he would surely have already pulled us out of NATO, as Bolton is convinced he would.

Yep. A no-brainer. Tulsi Gabbard said this weeks ago before the situation had even escalated. And back then the promise to never allow Ukraine into NATO might have been sufficient. But we've had so many "experts!" involved since then that it's going to cost Ukraine more than it should have.
