Speaking to political leaders in Washington, Biden started his State of the Union address by sending a resounding message to the world: The West is united in its response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and condemns the Russian leader for his aggression. Near the beginning of the speech, Biden encouraged all in the chamber to show that support with a resounding standing ovation and said the US and its allies have "an unwavering resolve that freedom will always triumph over tyranny."

Biden noted that Putin's aggression had only made the world's democracies strengthen their resolve to counter rising autocracies.

"Six days ago, Russia's Vladimir Putin sought to shake the foundations of the free world, thinking he could make it bend to his menacing ways. But he badly miscalculated," Biden said. "He thought he could roll into Ukraine and the world would roll over. Instead he met a wall of strength he never imagined. He met the Ukrainian people."

He added, "Let each of us here tonight in this chamber send an unmistakable signal to Ukraine and to the world. Please rise if you are able and show that, yes, we the United States of America stand with the Ukrainian people."

The President also touted the West's unanimity in the face of Russia's aggression, saying their united front is "inflicting pain on Russia and supporting the people of Ukraine" and "choking off Russia's access to technology that will sap its economic strength and weaken its military for years to come."

"Putin's latest attack on Ukraine was premeditated and unprovoked. He rejected repeated, repeated, efforts at diplomacy. He thought the West and NATO wouldn't respond. He thought he could divide us at home, in this chamber and in this nation. Putin was wrong. We were ready," Biden said.

"We spent months building a coalition of other freedom-loving nations from Europe and the Americas to Asia and Africa to confront Putin. I spent countless hours unifying our European allies. We shared with the world in advance what we knew Putin was planning and precisely how he would try to falsely justify his aggression. We countered Russia's lies with truth. And now that he has acted the free world is holding him accountable."

The President celebrated the impact actions

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

will have on "Russian oligarchs and corrupt leaders who have bilked billions of dollars off this violent regime no more."

"We are joining with our European allies to find and seize your yachts, your luxury apartments, your private jets. We are coming for your ill-begotten gains," he said.

He also asserted that "Russia's economy is reeling and Putin alone is to blame."

Putin, for his part, was not expected to watch the speech, according to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov. "The President usually does not watch TV addresses,"

I thought he was right because people like kputz

Biden also directly tackled an issue that is perhaps his most troubling on the economic front: inflation. He acknowledge that “Inflation is robbing [people] of the gains they might otherwise feel,” and he went so far as to call it his “top priority.”
All of these point to fears about how Democrats have allowed themselves to be defined ahead of what looks to be an arduous 2022 election. And as with other elements of the speech, it seemed aimed precisely at voters who have sourced on his party.

Hackers Changed Call Sign of Putin Superyacht
March 1, 2022 at 10:47 pm EST By Taegan Goddard 23 Comments

“The Anonymous ‘hactivist’ collective has messed with the call sign of a superyacht said to be owned by Russian President Vladimir Putin,” Insider reports.

“The group claimed credit for the hack, which involved changing the call sign of the vessel — named Graceful — to FCKPTN and altering the craft’s destination to ‘hell.’”

The American government is fronted by an illegitimate imposter and run from the shadows by faceless officials. We are, for the moment, out of the game. China has a two-year window, running up to the next American presidential election, in which Beijing can invade Taiwan with impunity. If that happens, then World War III is an inevitability: We may be able to postpone the final reckoning, but there will be no avoiding it. America won’t enter the war over Taiwan itself, but Taiwan won’t be the last thing China invades, just as Ukraine won’t be the last thing Russia invades. But we’re not quite there . . . yet.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s response to the U.S. offer—that he needs ammunition, not a ride—is exactly the right message. The distribution of weapons to Ukrainian citizens so they can defend their homeland is exactly the right message.

Report Ad

At the moment, Zelenzkyy’s manly attitude and the heroic resolution of the Ukrainian people are the only thing standing in between us and another general war. They need more from the West than encouraging social media posts and financial sanctions. As Biden said, in one of those rare moments when incompetence collides with indiscretion like two clown cars at the circus, “no one expected sanctions to prevent anything from happening.”

If we took the situation seriously—and if we don’t, know that Russia and China will very soon compel us to do so—we would break off diplomatic relations with Russia and get our European allies to do the same. If that seems extreme, think how much more extreme it will be when Russian troops are in Western Europe. Don’t fool yourself that Putin’s ambition stops at Ukraine’s borders.

#1. Democracy versus autocracy
Russian President Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine put a finer point on one of Biden's enduring themes: promoting democracy and defeating autocracy. He inveighed against Putin and touted the importance of the NATO alliance and U.S. diplomacy.

He proclaimed "an unwavering resolve that freedom will always triumph over tyranny" as members waved blue and yellow colors for Ukrainian flags. "When dictators do not pay a price for their aggression, they cause more chaos.

He sought to strike a balance between imposing new punishments against Putin by announcing that the U.S. will close off its airspace to Russian flights while emphasizing that U.S. forces "are not engaged and will not engage" in a war with Russian forces.

#2 The pandemic is coming to an end.

President Joe Biden said in his State of the Union speech Tuesday night that the world had “reached a new moment” in the coronavirus pandemic and called on Americans to begin resuming their pre-Covid work and lifestyle routines.

“Because of the progress we’ve made, because of your resilience and the tools we have, tonight I can say we are moving forward safely, back to more normal routines,” Biden said.

“We can end the shutdown of schools and businesses. We have the tools we need,” he added a moment later. “It’s time for Americans to get back to work and fill our great downtowns again. People working from home can feel safe to begin to return to the office.

#3 The record economic recovery.

“In fact, our economy created over 6.5 million new jobs just last year, more jobs in one year than ever before in the history of the United States of America.”

— President Biden

From his first full month in office in February 2021 to January 2022, the United States economy added 6.6 million jobs, an increase of 4.4 percent. That’s indeed the largest job gain as well as fastest growth rate of any president’s first full year in office since 1939, when the government began collecting data. (President Jimmy Carter came in second with 3.6 million jobs created in his first year in office, an increase of 4.3 percent.)

"They just can't help themselves," Manchin quipped when asked by reporters after Biden's State of the Union speech whether he was surprised by the president's effort to try to use the moment to try to revive his stalled climate and social spending plan.

"I don't know where that came from," he joked.

Confused Old Man Yells at Nation for an Hour

A confused political hack from Delaware staged a one-man insurrection by invading the sacred precincts of the Capitol building, hijacking all the TV networks, and yelling that the planet would be destroyed unless we gave him all our money so he could burn it and turn it into green energy.

Joseph Robinette Biden Jr, who loves the sound of his voice more than his crackhead son or the bastard grandchild of a stripper, had already inflicted the second longest opening address in the history of this nation with a 2021 marathon address that killed more brain cells than meth. . .

. . . With the price of gas, homes, and groceries out of the reach of most Americans, Biden began by taking credit for doing nothing to stop Putin from invading Ukraine. And then vowed that he, along with a coalition of "freedom loving nations" would fight Putin until the last Ukrainian.

Or until their social media people run out of hashtags.

Biden, who confused the Iranians and the Ukranians, spent more time bragging about plans to seize the yachts of Russian oligarchs than Truman spent declaring victory after WWII.

Putin "may make gains on the battlefield," Biden argued, but "he will pay a continuing high price over the long run". Sure. Vlad may take Ukraine, but Biden will take his yacht. During his unhinged tirade, Biden revealed a plan to end women's sports in America, but failed to name one thing that would actually stop Putin. . .

. . . Biden then wrapped up the extended torture session that would have broken any of the Al Qaeda terrorists he recently freed from Gitmo by calling for open borders, illegal alien amnesty, abortion, and conducting gender experiments on young children. Then he closed by invoking God. At least unlike at the presidential debates, he didn't invoke Allah.

At this point, not even Allah wants to be associated with the Biden administration.

Squinting in defiant confusion, Biden angrily concluded by shouting, "Go get him."

The dozens of people watching were left to wonder whether he was talking to the voices in his head, an imaginary leprechaun, or his handlers in Beijing.

Most Americans who watched President Biden's first State of the Union address approved of what they heard, and many said it made them feel optimistic and proud.

After nearly two years of the coronavirus pandemic, more than half who tuned in Tuesday night said the speech made them feel like the coronavirus is mostly behind us.

Older Americans who watched the speech were a bit more likely to say the speech made them feel the coronavirus will be with us for a while. CBS News interviewed speech viewers immediately after the president's speech.

Overall, about 8 in 10 of speech watchers approved of Mr. Biden's address tonight, including majorities of both Democrats and independents. Among members of his own party, his speech received high marks among both liberals and moderates.

As we've seen with previous presidents' State of the Union speeches, those who watched tonight are more likely to be from the president's own political party, boosting approval of the speech.

In the latest CBS national poll released earlier this week, 34% of Americans identified themselves as Democrats.  Among those who watched tonight's speech, that percentage was 49%.

“We’ve seen various explanations for this. It’s a staple of the Breitbart-Fox-MAGA media complex to suggest, without evidence, that the mistakes are a result of ‘cognitive decline.’ On the other hand, Atlantic writer John Hendrickson argues that some of Biden’s verbal bobbles are an artifact of his childhood stutter — an idea that Biden rejected in a 2020 interview with Hendrickson, but later, during a CNN town hall, suggested was a possibility ‘when I find myself really tired.’ Either way, there were some odd moments Tuesday night.”

Russia’s Looming Economic Collapse

Derek Thompson: “The war in Ukraine is being fought on two battlefields. The first battlefield is geographic. It is the land Russia is tearing up with tank treads and pounding with missiles.”

“The second battlefield is made up not of physical particles, but rather of relationships—contracts and promises between nations, banks, companies, and individuals. This is the economic arena.”

“While Russia holds the military advantage over Ukraine on Battlefield One, it is getting destroyed by a Western alliance on Battlefield Two. In the past few days, the United States and several major European countries have declared a series of financial penalties and sanctions against Russia that are without modern precedent for a major economy. These policies are triggering a financial catastrophe in Russia.”

“Getting a proper grip on the second battlefield requires breaking down the news of the past several days into three categories: the global boycott of Russia, the economic crisis within Russia, and the worldwide ripple effects that we’re already starting to see.”

Ukrainians Are Messing with Highway Signs

“Ukravtodor, the state agency in charge of Ukraine’s highways and road signs, is playing a tactical role in slowing down invading Russian troops,” Quartz reports.

“In a string of social media appeals, the group has called on Ukrainian citizens to remove highway signs and mess with markings left for the Russian Armed Forces.”

Three Scenarios for How This War Ends

Thomas Friedman: “I call them ‘the full-blown disaster,’ ‘the dirty compromise’ and ‘salvation.’”

“The disaster scenario is now underway: Unless Vladimir Putin has a change of heart or can be deterred by the West, he appears willing to kill as many people as necessary and destroy as much of Ukraine’s infrastructure as necessary to erase Ukraine as a free independent state and culture and wipe out its leadership. This scenario could lead to war crimes the scale of which has not been seen in Europe since the Nazis — crimes that would make Vladimir Putin, his cronies and Russia as a country all global pariahs.”

“Every day that Putin refuses to stop we get closer to the gates of hell.”

Russian Banking System on the Brink of Collapse

“Vladimir Putin has signed a decree banning Russians from leaving the country with more than $10,000 in foreign currency as fears grow that the Russian financial system is on the brink of collapse,’ the Telegraph reports.

“Experts have warned that banks will struggle to sell assets to stay afloat after sanctions sent markets into freefall this week. The chaos comes after Russia’s central bank was blocked from accessing large chunks of its foreign reserves.”

Russian Troop Deaths Expose Weakness of Putin’s Strategy

“No one can say with certainty just how many Russian troops have died since last Thursday, when they began what is turning into a long march to Kyiv, the capital. Some Russian units have put down their arms and refused to fight, the Pentagon said Tuesday.

“E.U. ambassadors agreed on Tuesday to call for an initial assessment of Ukraine’s chances of joining the 27-nation bloc,” Bloomberg reports.

Russia Moves to Encircle and Capture Key Ukraine Cities

New York Times: “Russia’s push to seize key Ukrainian cities accelerated on Wednesday, with the Russian military claiming that its forces were fully in control of Kherson, a port city with a strategically important location near the Black Sea, just northwest of Crimea.

“The claim could not immediately be verified, and Ukrainian officials said that while the city of about 300,000 people was surrounded, the battle for it was continuing. Kherson would be the first major Ukrainian city captured by Russia since President Vladimir Putin launched his invasion last Thursday.”

“Emmanuel Macron is set to confirm this week that he will be a candidate in next month’s French presidential election, with polls and political commentators suggesting that the war in Ukraine has boosted his status as favorite to win and secure another five-year term,” the Financial Times reports.

Russian Oligarchs Powerless to Stop Putin

“As Russia’s tanks rolled into Ukraine last week, Vladimir Putin gathered the country’s top businessmen in the Kremlin’s ornate Hall of the Order of St Catherine to discuss their response to the economic shocks that would follow,” the Financial Times reports.

“The Russian president, seated about 20 feet away in a conspicuous social-distancing measure, told them he had ‘no other choice’ but to invade Ukraine — and, if they wanted to keep their businesses, neither did they.

“But the power dynamic of the meeting made for a much starker message to the assembled billionaires. PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona Senate voted Tuesday to censure Republican Wendy Rogers, whose embrace of white nationalism and calls for violence drew bipartisan condemnation.

Rogers is in her first term in elected office but has built a national profile among the far right with inflammatory rhetoric and vociferous support for former President Donald Trump's false claims that the 2020 election was stolen from him.

Rogers has long faced fierce opposition from Democrats and a handful of Republicans for offensive comments on social media.

President Biden never once mentioned Trump.

The president’s popularity, meanwhile, has been plunging, and congressional Democrats are increasingly alarmed about their party’s prospects in next fall’s midterm elections. They want to move beyond the pandemic, leaving aside the caution that has marked their party for two years; to blunt the rise in violent crime, only without resorting to the policing excesses of the 1990s; and to support Ukraine in its fight against Russia while avoiding yet another international conflict.

Biden won the presidency by pitching himself as political balm after the divisions of the Trump administration. Tuesday night was an effort to remind Americans of that promise, while also making a renewed effort to court moderates who have soured on Democrats’ progressive drift.

It won't change the minds of cultist but the moderate people of both parties may gradually get back to normal.

Ronald Reagan knew that the key to collapsing the Soviet Union was to out-spend them militarily. And he right. That worked.

The same holds true for the Russian economy. Right now Russia has Europe by the balls, energy wise. We should be fracking and exporting NG like crazy. We should be drilling and refining oil like crazy. Keystone should be pumping Canadian oil like crazy to US refineries.

The US, and not Russia, should be Europe's source for NG and crude oil. But we're not, because we've committed to fairy dust, unicorn farts, tilting at windmills, and destroying the landscape with solar panels chock full of heavy metals.

The American & European LEFT deserves full credit for Russia's influence and control over Europe. It can be fixed. It can be reversed, but the left is content to keep ROOTIN' FOR PUTIN.

China is “extremely concerned” about the harm to civilians in Ukraine, Foreign Minister Wang Yi told his Ukrainian counterpart in a call, in the latest indication of Beijing’s desire to prevent the war’s further escalation.

Wang said the world’s second largest economy also “deplores the outbreak of conflict between Ukraine and Russia,” according to a statement posted on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website. The remarks were published after a call between Wang and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, the most senior exchange since Russia’s Vladimir Putin launched the invasion Thursday.

Wang also acknowledged the conflict was a “war,” rather than a “special military operation” as described by Russia. Kuleba said Ukraine was willing to strengthen communication with China and that it looked forward to China’s “mediation for the realization of the ceasefire,” according to the statement.

“This is a very important event and signals the very high attention that the Chinese government is paying to the Ukraine crisis,” said Henry Wang Huiyao, founder of the Center for China & Globalization policy research group in Beijing. “If both Ukraine and Russia invite China to be a mediator, then China would probably join.”

The war is testing Chinese President Xi Jinping’s commitment last month to a “no limits” relationship with Putin, as the U.S. and its allies pile on sanctions and press Beijing to take as stand against military aggression. In recent days, Xi has urged Putin to pursue negotiations and China’s United Nations ambassador abstained from, rather than opposing, a Security Council resolution condemning the attack.

The call between Wang Yi and Kuleba came as convoys of Russian military vehicles bore down on the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv and other major cities, prompting warnings that Moscow could unleash a mass bombardment on population centers.

Still, China has refrained from publicly calling for a ceasefire or describing the war as an “invasion,” and thus a violation of the UN-guaranteed sovereignty Beijing frequently vows to uphold. China hasn’t criticized Russia, and continues to voice support its security concerns and blame the U.S. for precipitating the crisis.

China boasts deep economic ties with Ukraine, and Wang Yi expressed concern over the safety of Chinese citizens there, estimated at 6,000 when the invasion began. Beijing’s support is seen as essential to Moscow’s efforts to weather international sanctions, which are cutting if off from huge swaths of the world’s trade, finance and travel.

Some 2,500 Chinese nationals have been relocated from Ukraine as of midday Wednesday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said at a regular press briefing in Beijing. He sidestepped a question on whether Xi would speak with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, saying only that Beijing’s communication links with Kyiv were open.

During the call, Wang Yi said China always upholds respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, and called on Ukraine and Russia to “find a solution to the issue through negotiations,” according to the statement. China supports all constructive international effort conducive to “political settlement,” he added.

A recent assassination plot against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was foiled over the weekend and the Chechen servicemen sent from Russia were “destroyed,” a Ukrainian security leader said Tuesday.
Oleksiy Danilov, secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, said during a broadcast marathon airing on Ukrainian TV channels that officials were recently tipped off about how a unit of Kadyrovites, elite Chechen Special Forces, were on their way to kill Zelensky. After Ukrainian officials were told by Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB), the Chechen Special Forces were killed on Saturday on the outskirts of Kyiv, Danilov said.
“We are well aware of the special operation that was to take place directly by the Kadyrovites to eliminate our president. And I can say that we have received information from the FSB, who today do not want to take part in this bloody war,” Danilov said. “And thanks to this, the ‘Kadyrov’ elite group was destroyed, which came here to eliminate our president.”
[The latest on the war in Ukraine]
While Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov confirmed on his Telegram channel Monday that two servicemen died and six others were injured, neither the Chechens nor the Kremlin have publicly responded to Ukraine’s claims that Kadyrovites were sent to kill Zelensky and were eliminated.

Republicans In Disarray

March 2, 2022 at 9:30 am EST By Taegan Goddard 63 Comments

This piece is only available to Political Wire members.

Let’s acknowledge that the Democrats are in a terribly bad position ahead of the midterm elections. From President Biden’s dismal approval rate to messy legislative sausage-making to soaring inflation, the challenges for Democratic candidates are enormous.

But what is up with the Republican party?

Former President Donald Trump set the stage for the week by praising Russian president Vladimir as “smart” for his “genius” and “very saavy” invasion of Ukraine. It’s a sentiment shared by almost no one, though few Republicans will condemn him.

Then Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and his hand-picked head of the Senate GOP’s campaign effort, Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) got into an open fight about Scott’s proposed agenda for the party.

McConnell was so angry he slapped down Scott publicly: “We will not have as part of our agenda a bill that raises taxes on half the American people and sunsets Social Security and Medicare within five years. That will not be part of a Republican Senate majority agenda.”

Scott didn’t back down, saying: “I’m a business guy and I’ve always believed in making plans in order to get things done. Republicans, and really all Americans outside of Washington, are demanding it.”

But that squabble pales in comparison with what’s going on with House Republicans.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) spoke at a white supremacist conference over the weekend. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) privately said he would talk to them about it, but refused to condemn them on camera yesterday.

Greene wasn’t so shy and defended mingling with white supremacists, or as she called them, “1,200 young America First patriots.”

Then three GOP lawmakers — Reps. Chip Roy (R-TX), Andrew Clyde (R-GA) and Thomas Massie (R-KY) — voted against a bill to make lynching a federal hate crime — on the last day of Black History Month.

Not to be outdone, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) interrupted Biden’s State of the Union speech by shouting when he was talking about his dead son. She was later joined by Greene heckling Biden about immigration.

If the polls are correct, Democrats would be walloped by Republicans if the midterm elections were held today.

All of this reminds me of the brilliant Saturday Night Live skit in 1988 of a George Bush and Michael Dukakis debate, where Jon Lovett (as Dukakis) turns to the camera and says, “I can’t believe I’m losing to this guy.”

About the only positive sign from last night's shitshow was the rebuttal speech. No, not from the GOP but an actual intraparty rebuttal speech from the far left wing of the Democrats, delivered by coelacanth-faced Jew-hater Rancida Taliban, aka Rashida Tlaib from the emirate of Dearbornistan. I'm not going to quote her but suffice it to say that she basically was damning Biden with faint praise by claiming the failure of Bernardo Sandersnista's insane multi-trillion dollar Build Bolshevism Biggerer disasters to pass was the fault of "greedy corporatist elements" in the Democrat Party (I guess that means "JOOZ!") as well as the GOP. It's a thinly veiled warning shot across Biden's handlers' bow.

White House Mulls Sanctions on Russia Oil Exports

“The possibility of the U.S. sanctioning Russian oil exports is ‘still on the table’ as President Biden looks for more ways to punish the country for its invasion of Ukraine,” CNN reports.

Stocks rose on Wednesday despite a continued surge in oil prices surged amid the intensifying conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 257 points, or 0.7%. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite added about 0.6% and 0.1%, respectively.

The moves came as oil prices trekked upward, building on a massive move in the previous session. Futures for both U.S. crude and international benchmark Brent crude futures rose about 6% each. West Texas Intermediate most recently traded at $110.06 and Brent was at $112.02.

“Wall Street wants to take a break from the defensive playbook and hold off overloading on utilities, healthcare and consumer staples stocks. With oil prices and Treasury yields rallying so much today, it is no surprise energy and financials are leading the open higher,” Oanda senior market analyst Edward Moya said in a note to clients.

Corporate news helped push the market higher. Shares of Ford popped 4.6% after the automaker announced it would split its electric vehicle and legacy production businesses into two separate units. Salesforce rose 1.7% after the software giant beat estimates on the top and bottom lines for its fourth quarter.

The move in oil appeared to boost energy stocks, with Exxon and Chevron each rising about 2% in early trading.

However, the rising energy costs have also increased concerns about inflation and a potentially slowing economic recovery. The index moves on Wednesday morning trimmed losses from the previous session, which also saw a big spike in oil.

“Yesterday’s price action, which saw Fed tightening expectations get pushed out, global yields plunge, the U.S. dollar & gold strengthen, and equity markets (ex-Energy) selloff sharply, strongly suggests that investors are increasingly pricing in a potential sharp slowdown,” Wolfe Research’s Chris Senyek said in a note to clients.

Government bond yields also rebounded Wednesday. The benchmark 10-year note most recently yielded close to 1.8% after falling below 1.7% the day before. The reversal appeared to help bank stocks, with Wells Fargo rising 2.4%.

Investors remained on edge as reports Wednesday indicated that Russian forces penetrated Kherson and have surrounded Mariupol, two key cities in the southern part of the country.

Markets also were digesting the State of the Union speech from President Joe Biden, who offered little in the way of new policy details while urging support for Ukraine and reiterating many of the goals for his domestic agenda.

“Some of the push for policies appeared to show his base he is still fighting for the issues they care about, but the reality remains that his political standing is perilous with an approval rating hovering around 40%,” wrote Ed Mills, Washington policy analyst for Raymond James.

Earnings boosted several other stocks in extended trading. Nordstrom spiked by more than 30% on strong earnings while SoFi surged around 10%.

Ch is not part of this era but you know who they are.

Racism and white supremacy continue to structure American society, largely by privileging some groups (those defined as "white") and disadvantaging others (especially those deemed "Black," but other nonwhites as well). These outcomes are the aggregate result of individual, systemic and institutional discrimination and other forms of racial animus. This has been a fixture of American life and society since before the founding of the republic through to the post-civil rights era and now the Age of Trump and a 21st-century form of fascism. In practice, racism and white supremacy are a "changing same," constantly adapting over time to fit American society in support of the maintenance and expansion of white privilege, white power and white Supremacy.

Racial attitudes and values help to structure how Americans, particularly white Americans, feel about both domestic politics and foreign policy. For example, it is no surprise, and really no mystery — as some members of the mainstream news media and commentariat appear to believe — why many Republicans and other members of the white right defend or even embrace Vladimir Putin and his war in Ukraine. This is readily explainable: The Russian president is viewed by them as a champion of "conservative values" and the possibility of a return to what they have deluded themselves into believing was a "golden age" of white male Christian dominance over all areas of American (and global) society.

Advertisement:

Putin's politics, values and strategic goals, at least in a general sense, largely align with those of today's Republican-fascist movement and the larger white right. Taken together, they are a global front aimed at undermining or destroying pluralism and multiracial democracy.

Robert Reich summarizes this in a new essay for the Guardian, where he writes: "The Trump-led Republican party does not openly support Putin, but the Republican party's animus toward democracy is expressed in ways familiar to Putin and other autocrats. ... Make no mistake: Putin's authoritarian neo-fascism has rooted itself in America."

"The American revolution was not fought over class warfare and envy."

Correct.

As for "class warfare," Warren Buffett has pointed out that for a long time now class warfare has been being waged between the classes and, he admits, "my [wealthy] class have been winning it."

He agrees with Democrats that his wealthy class are not now paying anything resembling their "rightful share."

And should be.

For he does not want to be part of a selfish, dictatorial Republican oligarchy.

GOP Lawmaker Censured In Arizona

“Republican and Democratic state senators joined together Tuesday in a historic vote to censure Sen. Wendy Rogers following violent and discriminatory comments she made to a white nationalist conference and on social media attacking the president of Ukraine,” the Arizona Republic reports.

“Thirteen Democrats and 11 Republicans voted for the censure language read on the Senate floor.

"It was the first time in three decades senators publicly censured one of their own members, and the move was applauded by Gov. Doug Ducey — who just days ago was criticized for his support of Rogers.”
________

Finally back pedaling away from white nationalism, GOP?
It took you long enough to do it!

Right.

Yet Hypocrite Warren chose to shield his massive fortune from government seizure by bequeathing it to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

I wonder why.

I also wonder hat has been prohibiting him from voluntarily submitting massive chunks of his wealth to the Federal Treasury since that has always been an option.

Yet the US continues to import Russian oil for big $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

I call that ROOTIN' FOR PUTIN.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

I call that stupid. Rat criticizes Buffet without even knowing whether he and, for example, Gates have given away far more than they would have had to pay in almost any taxation situation.

Has nothing to do with Pootin Rootin.

Call it whatever you want, pederast. I call it hypocritical.

Don't bitch about not being taxed enough while taking every available legal measure to shield your wealth from taxation.

Write the fucking check, payable to the Federal Treasury.

Or just shut the fuck up.

Absent that, don't expect to be taken seriously.
