This is a good map of the situation in Ukraine

The southern city of Kherson has fallen under Russian control according to the NY Times

Click map to expand

As it stands, it looks like as many as four other cities in addition to Kherson are completely encircled, which means that getting weapons and supplies to them is probably not going to be happening. That being said, fighting is still intense in many of these cities and an especially slow slog for the Russians in Kharkiv.

Not sure that Kherson is a surprise as it was not as heavily defended as other cities, but it is a strategic location in terms of controlling the southern ports. It has a population of around 300,000 and a mix of people, some of whom may still be a bit loyal to Russia. Putin is said to be planning on starting to set up a Russian administration in this city, which is probably more symbolic than anything else.

According to this map, Kyiv is not yet "encircled" although reports are that it may as well be. But as long as there are ways in and out, supplies and weapons can still get through. As you can see by the map, that is a much farther move for the Russian Army than any of the other cities that they have encircled. That is why there is more "supply chain" issues in and around Kyiv. It is also why Kyiv will likely be able to resist much longer than other cities.

Russian troops have seized their first major Ukrainian city since the start of an invasion ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin, the New York Times reported.

The port city of Kherson, located 126 miles east of Odessa, has a population of roughly 300,000, making it the largest locality to come under the control of Russian forces since Russia began its invasion last Thursday.

“There is no Ukrainian army here,” Kherson’s mayor, Igor Kolykhaev, told the Times. “The city is surrounded.”

Russian forces entered Kherson's City Hall Wednesday, according to the Times, and told the mayor that they were setting up a new military administration. Russian troops encircled the city, and local officials reported that there were hundreds of Ukrainian casualties.

Vaccines did a worse job preventing illness, but a better job preventing deaths when the omicron variant hit Michigan this winter.

From Dec. 19 to Jan. 1, unvaccinated people in Michigan were nearly four times more likely to catch COVID-19 than people with a booster shot, per data from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services shows.

But in that same span, the unvaccinated were about 84 times more likely to die from COVID-19 than boosted people.

U.S. businesses are finding it easier to pass on increased costs to their customers and expect to keep raising prices in the months ahead, the Federal Reserve said on Wednesday.

The Fed, in its latest Beige Book report that collects business anecdotes from around the country, said that prices charged to customers increased at a “robust pace” across the United States. A few districts even reported an acceleration of prices.

Gone is any hint that inflation might be transitory, something Fed officials believed last year.

There is also no indication that the favored narrative of the Biden administration–that prices have been pushed up by corporate greed and monopolistic profits–is supported by data. Instead, businesses say they are raising prices because their own costs are rising.

The tank is greedy for fuel, but our soldiers also captured a tanker, "Butusov wrote.

The captured equipment turned out to be well-equipped and will now fight on the Ukrainian side.

"Tanks are armed with the latest Russian sub-caliber and guided projectiles, it will be very nice to apply it to the remnants of the same unfortunate 200th Brigade ... As always, every time Joe brings up Beau I’m reminding you all that Attorney General Beau Biden helped a child rapist avoid jail time because the child rapist’s family was one of the Biden family’s biggest benefactors

-----------------------------------------------

On February 6, 2009, Robert Richards admitted to raping his 3-year-old daughter. “I feel horrible,” he told the judge, according to court documents. “There’s no excuse for what I’ve done to her.”

His lawyer, calling the 6-foot-4, roughly 300-pound Richards “a somewhat gentle person,” argued he “would not fare well” in jail. Hours later, Richards walked away from Delaware Superior Court a free man. He pleaded guilty to a charge of rape in the fourth degree, paid a fine of $4,395 and promised to attend a high-end treatment center in Massachusetts.

Robert Richards Megan's Law Community Notice
Megan's Law Community Notice STATE OF DELAWARE
Judge Jan Jurden, who presided over the case, had initially considered sentencing Richards to eight years in prison; ultimately she gave him eight years of probation. “I have concerns about this, because arguably, you should be [in jail] for what you did,” Jurden said during the sentencing. “But I think you have significant treatment needs that have to be addressed, and you have very strong family support. So unlike many unfortunate people who come before me, you are lucky in that regard, and I hope you appreciate that.”

Richards did have support that most convicts lacked. Upon his release, he went back to living on the proceeds of his multimillion-dollar trust fund, the result of being a member of one of Delaware’s most powerful families, the du Ponts. While he never worked for or had any affiliation with the DuPont company, he still benefits from the family fortune, which Forbes valued at $14.3 billion in 2016, and dates back 200 years in the state.

The Globalists’ Misinformation Play

By Vasko Kohlmayer

Ever since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the western public has been carpet-bombed with the claim that Russian president Vladimir Putin is some sort of unhinged madman. This notion is being feverishly spread by the establishment and those in its pay: the political class, the media and the commentariat, career diplomats and technocrats as well as those connected to the security and intelligence communities.

The most remarkable thing about the Mad Vlad claim is that it is obviously false.

Whatever Vladimir Putin may be, he is certainly no irrational madman. This much should be obvious to everyone with the eyes to see.

A former KGB operative, Vladimir Putin is a wily person of demonstrated ability. After all, he managed to bring control and order to a vast country that was largely in disarray when he took it over at the age of 48. He adroitly managed to keep himself in power for over two decades while navigating and overcoming a number of crises and challenges along the way. Through it all, he has shown himself to be intelligent, steel-willed, calculating, shrewd, self-controlled, determined, cunning, and patient.

These are hardly the qualities of a lunatic.

We have dealt with Putin for 22 years and, during that whole time, no one seriously suggested or maintained that he was crazy. Quite to the contrary, for almost a decade after his ascent, he was viewed as a capable man of considerable talents.

For years the Western establishment considered Putin a “man with whom we could do business.” He was seen as “liberal, humane, and decent European.” He was described as a person of “’alert, controlled poise’ and ‘well-briefed acuity,’ who was open to anything, even Russia joining NATO.”

And yet less than a week ago, on the day he invaded Ukraine, Vladimir Putin was nearly unanimously declared – contrary to all evidence – a “madman” by members of the Western establishment.

The question is this: Why did they decide to suddenly gaslight and brainwash people with such a patent lie that so obviously contravenes reality?

They did this to hide and conceal the gargantuan blunder they have committed over Ukraine.

My son was taking college classes as a sophomore, was nicknamed the autistic genius in his school, all while sporting an IQ of around 120 (which still placed him in the top 5% of our population).

I was that student to took a standardized math test in high school and correctly answered questions on math subjects we had not even covered yet. The kid who "blew the curve" while never taking a book home to study in a variety of subjects.

It wasn't that I needed to study or apply myself to get on the honor roll or graduate from college. It was whether or not I wanted to apply myself enough to handle 500 level college math and science that did not come easy.

At the moment, the artillery and rocket attacks there have been limited, perhaps to send a message to the citizens as a warning of what may come.

Putin appears to want to take Ukraine intact, but will not hesitate to increase the level of brutality if needed.

The systematic nature of the Russian assault is at odds with speculation that Putin has lost control of his senses.

Nobody knows for sure, but Putin's actions appear to be that of a cold and calculating adversary.

Dismissing his decision to invade Ukraine as a form of madness is effectively an excuse to ignore Putin's likely motivations and future decisions

Trump just endorsed an Oath Keeper’s plan to seize control of the Republican Party

ProPublica is a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative newsroom. Sign up for The Big Story newsletter to receive stories like this one in your inbox.

Former President Donald Trump has officially endorsed a plan, created by a man who has self-identified with the Oath Keeper militia, that aims to have Trump supporters consolidate control of the Republican Party.

The plan, known as the “precinct strategy,” has been repeatedly promoted on Steve Bannon’s popular podcast. As ProPublica detailed last year, it has already inspired thousands of people to fill positions at the lowest rung of the party ladder. Though these positions are low-profile and often vacant, they hold critical powers: They help elect higher-ranking party officers, influence which candidates appear on the ballot, turn out voters on Election Day and even staff the polling precincts where people vote and the election boards that certify the results.

“Just heard about an incredible effort underway that will strengthen the Republican Party,” Trump said Sunday in a statement emailed to his supporters. “If members of our Great movement start getting involved (that means YOU becoming a precinct committeeman for your voting precinct), we can take back our great Country from the ground up.”

Russia Batters Ukraine’s No. 2 City Kharkiv, as Kyiv Offensive StallsThe two cities remain under Ukrainian control, as Ukraine officials put the invasion’s civilian death toll at 2,000 and Moscow acknowledges nearly 500 soldiers killed

Updated March 2, 2022 7:55 pm ET

KYIV, Ukraine—Russian forces pounded Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, with airstrikes in a bid to break the will of the country’s resistance as Moscow’s offensive toward Kyiv stalled amid fierce Ukrainian counterattacks and logistics mishaps.

Russian missile debris fell near Kyiv’s central train station on Wednesday night, damaging a major heating pipeline, with the blast wave breaking the station’s windows. Thousands of civilians, particularly women and children, are sheltering in the station at night as they await evacuation trains to western Ukraine. The charges have been filed against Trump!!!

The Jan. 6 select committee says its evidence has shown that then-President Donald Trump and his campaign tried to illegally obstruct Congress’ counting of electoral votes and “engaged in a criminal conspiracy to defraud the United States.”

In a major release of its findings, filed in federal court late Wednesday, the committee suggested its evidence supported findings that Trump himself violated multiple laws by attempting to prevent Congress from certifying his defeat.

“The Select Committee also has a good-faith basis for concluding that the President and members of his Campaign engaged in a criminal conspiracy to defraud the United States,” the committee wrote in a filing submitted in U.S. District Court in the Central District of California.

In a major release of the panel’s findings, including excerpts of nearly a dozen depositions from top aides to Trump and former Vice President Mike Pence, the committee described a president who had been informed repeatedly that he lost the election and that his claims of fraud were unfounded — only to reject them and continue to mislead the American public.

He then pushed top advisers to continue strategizing ways to overturn the election results.

As Congress regrouped after a violent mob assaulted the Capitol, Attorney John Eastman, a key driver of Trump’s strategy to subvert the 2020 election, urged Pence to break federal law in order to stop counting of Electoral College votes, according to evidence released Wednesday evening by the Jan. 6 select committee.

Jan. 6 committee says Trump violated multiple laws in effort to overturn election

The select panel suggested that its evidence supported findings that the former president himself violated multiple laws by attempting to prevent Congress from certifying his defeat.
The Jan. 6 select committee says its evidence has shown that then-President Donald Trump and his campaign tried to illegally obstruct Congress’ counting of electoral votes and “engaged in a criminal conspiracy to defraud the United States.”

In a major release of its findings, filed in federal court late Wednesday, the committee suggested that its evidence supported findings that Trump himself violated multiple laws by attempting to prevent Congress from certifying his defeat.

The panel released its findings as part of a legal push to force John Eastman, an attorney who was a key driver of Trump’s strategy to subvert the 2020 election, to produce crucial emails tying together elements of the scheme they described. The panel revealed testimony that offered a detailed account of Eastman’s efforts to provide a legal strategy that would justify ordering Pence to overturn the election single-handedly when he presided over Congress’ electoral-vote-counting session on Jan. 6, 2021.

Eastman, however, didn’t relent even after a violent mob — egged on by Trump — stormed the Capitol and sent Pence and Congress fleeing for safety. Eastman continued to press Pence to overturn the election.

“Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege,” Pence counsel Greg Jacob emailed Eastman, along with a lengthy refutation of his argument.

“The ‘siege’ is because YOU and your boss did not do what was necessary to allow this to be aired in a public way so the American people can see for themselves what happened,” Eastman replied, according to emails obtained by the panel.

Even after this exchange, Eastman made one final plea to convince Pence to stop the counting of electoral votes, acknowledging it would amount to a “relatively minor” violation of the federal law known as the Electoral Count Act.

“Plaintiff knew what he was proposing would violate the law, but he nonetheless urged the Vice President to take those actions,” the committee wrote in its filings.

Chair Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) and Vice Chair Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) said in a statement later Wednesday that their fact-finding strongly suggested that “Dr. Eastman’s emails may show that he helped Donald Trump advance a corrupt scheme to obstruct the counting of electoral college ballots and a conspiracy to impede the transfer of power.”

The select committee revealed its evidence as part of a bid to convince a federal judge to require Eastman to provide more of his own emails — held by his former employer Chapman University — to congressional investigators. Eastman sued to block the panel from accessing his Chapman emails, claiming they would reveal records protected by attorney-client privilege.

But the panel’s emphasis on potential crimes may convince U.S. District Court Judge David Carter — who has repeatedly ruled against Eastman — that none of Eastman’s records are protected by privilege.

Carter, who is based in California, has rejected Eastman’s attempts to shield his records, citing the urgency and significance of the select committee’s work. Instead, Carter has ordered Eastman to quickly review 90,000 pages of emails and attachments and to itemize any he thinks should be withheld because of attorney-client privilege. He has repeatedly sided with the committee’s demands, such as requiring Eastman to prioritize emails sent between Jan. 4 and Jan. 7, 2021, and to force him to disclose his legal relationship with Trump, which had never been publicly revealed.

But the committee indicated that Eastman’s purported relationship with Trump fails to prove he had a legitimate claim of attorney client privilege.

Eastman, according to the panel, produced a letter identifying his client as Trump’s campaign, but the letter was left unsigned. “This unsigned and unauthenticated engagement letter is insufficient to establish an attorney-client relationship during the period at issue,” the House’s lawyers wrote.

“As the courts were overwhelmingly ruling against President Trump’s claims of election misconduct, he and his associates began to plan extra-judicial efforts to overturn the results of the election and prevent the President-elect from assuming office,” the brief said. “At the heart of these efforts was an aggressive public misinformation campaign to persuade millions of Americans that the election had in fact been stolen. The President and his associates persisted in making ‘stolen election’ claims even after the President’s own appointees at the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security, along with his own campaign staff, had informed the President that his claims were wrong.”

Exactly. The fact that no charges have been made does not mean that charges will not be made.

If the evidence is as persuasive as it appears to be, I would think that, after further consideration of the evidence, charges will be forthcoming from a source empowered to make such charges.

Select Panel Lays Out POTENTIAL CHARGES Against Trump

“The House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol said on Wednesday that there was enough evidence to conclude that former President Donald J. Trump and some of his allies might have conspired to commit fraud and obstruction by misleading Americans about the outcome of the 2020 election and attempting to overturn the result,” the New York Times reports.

“In a court filing in a civil case in California, the committee’s lawyers for the first time laid out their theory of a potential criminal case against the former president.

“They said they had accumulated evidence demonstrating that Mr. Trump, the conservative lawyer John Eastman and other allies could potentially be charged with criminal violations including obstructing an official proceeding of Congress and conspiracy to defraud the American people.”

Not yet today but

The 221-page filing marks the committee’s most formal effort to link the former president to a federal crime, though the actual import of the filing is not clear since lawmakers do not have the power to bring charges on their own and can only make a referral to the Justice Department. The department has been investigating last year’s riot, but has not given any indication that it is considering seeking charges against Trump.

WASHINGTON—The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol said in a court filing Wednesday that it believes former President Trump and some of his allies might have committed crimes by seeking to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

In a legal filing previewing some of its findings, the committee—made up largely of Democrats as well as two Republicans who have been critical of Mr. Trump—said it has evidence to show Mr. Trump violated several laws in an attempt to keep Congress from certifying President Biden’s victory.

A spokesman for Mr. Trump didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.

The panel suggested it had evidence that Mr. Trump potentially engaged in conspiracy to defraud the United States, obstructed an official proceeding and committed fraud—serious federal charges that could eventually be referred to the Justice Department for consideration.
Such a move would immediately thrust the Justice Department into a political firestorm.

The committee says that evidence provides “a good-faith basis” for concluding that Mr. Trump has violated federal law banning obstruction of an official proceeding. “The Select Committee also has a good-faith basis for concluding that the President and members of his Campaign engaged in a criminal conspiracy to defraud the United States,” lawyers for the congressional panel wrote in a filing in the U.S. federal district court in Orange County, Calif.

The filing came as part of legal proceedings over the testimony of John Eastman, a lawyer and professor at Chapman University, who advanced a fringe legal theory in the wake of Mr. Trump’s loss that Vice President Mike Pence could stop certification of the election on Jan. 6, 2021, as part of his ceremonial role as vice president. The panel’s immediate aim was to force Mr. Eastman to hand over thousands of pages of emails that he is suing to withhold.

The panel said Mr. Trump and his allies entered into an agreement “to defraud the United States by interfering with the election certification process, disseminating false information about election fraud, and pressuring state officials to alter state election results and federal officials to assist in that effort,’’ according to the filing.
