Will Musk take over twitter and fire all of the fake "fact checkers"?

Musk takes 9% stake in Twitter to become top shareholder
April 4 (Reuters) - Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) boss Elon Musk on Monday disclosed a 9.2% stake in Twitter Inc (TWTR.N), worth nearly $3 billion, making him the micro-blogging site's largest shareholder and triggering a rise of more than 27% in the company's shares. Musk's move, revealed in a regulatory filing, comes on the heels of his tweet that he was giving "serious thought" to building a new social media platform, while questioning Twitter's commitment to free speech.
A prolific Twitter user, Musk has over 80 million followers since joining the site in 2009 and has used the platform to make several announcements, including teasing a go-private deal for Tesla that landed him in hot water with regulators. Of late, however, the world's richest person has been critical of the social media platform and its policies, and recently ran a Twitter poll asking users if they believed the platform adheres to the principle of free speech, to which over 70% voted "no."

Twitter and Facebook both need a serious overhaul. These are no longer the social media open forums that they were advertised to be and not the open forums that allows them to be shielded from lawsuits. These have become leftist forums where conservative opinions are censored and conservatives in general are banned left and right.

To put this in perspective, when Jack Dorsey was considered the "owner" of Twitter, he only held a little over 2% of the shares. Musk buying up over 9% is an impressive feat indeed, and who knows what else he might have in store! He could continue to buy up shares and it would only be a matter of time before he can garner some serious controlling interest.

To be clear, most of the recent issues with Twitter being considered yesterday's dying platform can be attributed not to "fake new" and "disinformation" but from the controversial censoring and banning of anything and anyone conservative. They allow the Taliban spokesman to have a twitter account, but former President Donald Trump is permanently banned? What does it say when you prefer the Taliban over arguably the most popular political figure in the United States?

Trump frustrated – and rambling about Hunter Biden’s laptop – as his new app flounders: reports

Sky Palma

April 04, 2022

As former President Donald Trump’s social media venture "Truth Social" struggles to gain traction with users, top executives are leaving the company, POLITICO reports.

Trump is reportedly upset with how things are going at the company and is "eyeing some major shakeups" in the wake of low traffic and glitches affecting the platform. Truth Social has seen a 93 percent drop in new users since its launch, and installs declined by 800,000 users. Trump himself has only posted on the app once.

But according to sources speaking to The Daily Beast, Trump's mind seems to be elsewhere when it comes to any effort to turn his fledgling social media app around. "One person who’s known the ex-president for years said that when Truth Social was recently brought up with Trump in a relaxed social setting, the former president instead kept rambling on about Hunter Biden’s laptop," The Beast reports.

When one person close to Trump was asked why Trump hasn't used the app much himself, the person replied, “He wants it to be a hit first.”

IN OTHER NEWS: Election results would be 'thrown into unimaginable chaos' if Trumpian vote-counting plan is implemented:

Trump has described Truth Social as an alternative to Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, all of which banned him following the assault on the US Capitol by his supporters on January 6, 2021.

The former president has been accused of inciting his followers to use force in a bid to overturn the result of the 2020 election.

Before being banned by Twitter, Trump had some 89 million followers there and used the platform constantly, both for presidential statements and to attack rivals.

Trump, who is 75, has hinted but never definitively said whether he will seek the presidency again.

He is currently under the shadow of multiple investigations and lawsuits, including over his tax filings and his efforts to cling to power after losing the 2020 election.

DeSantis-Noem 2024. Damn if that’s the ticket I might actually vote R again instead of LP

Inflation is hitting American families hard right now. Brutally hard. At least one prominent Republican, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, is stepping up with some answers. He just accurately diagnosed the origins of the ongoing price surges—and dropped an inflation truth bomb in a recent speech.

“People should just brace themselves,” the governor warned, “because the inflationary period that we’re in [is] likely to persist for some time.”

“I mean, you cannot print trillions and trillions of dollars, and expect there not to be some effect on the back end. This is basic [economics], even Keynesian [progressive] economics would say that if you spend and print, spend and print, that is going to drive up the cost of everything.”

The GOP no longer argues that free markets, rather than government, should choose “winners and losers.”
In today’s Republican Party, the primary economic role of the state is not to get out of the way. It is, instead, to reward friends and crush political enemies.

Fox News anchor Laura Ingraham expressed the new ethos in a recent monologue threatening companies that advocated for LGBTQ rights, ballot access, racial justice and sundry other political stances that are anathema in today’s GOP.
“When Republicans, they get back into power, Apple and Disney need to understand one thing: Everything will be on the table,” Ingraham warned. “Your copyright, trademark protection. Your special status within certain states. And even your corporate structure itself. The antitrust division at Justice needs to begin the process of considering which American companies need to be broken up once and for all for competition’s sake, and ultimately for the good of the consumers who pay the bills.”

Republican politicians routinely claim that cities run by Democrats have been experiencing crime waves caused by failed governance, but a new study shows murder rates are actually higher in states and cities controlled by Republicans.

“We’re seeing murders in our cities, all Democrat-run,” former President Donald Trump asserted at a March 26 rally in Georgia. “People are afraid to go out.”

In February, Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., blamed Democrats for a 2018 law that reduced some federal prison sentences — even though it was signed by Trump after passing a GOP-controlled Congress. “It’s your party who voted in lockstep for the First Step Act that let thousands of violent felons on the street who have now committed innumerable violent crimes,” Cotton said during a speech in the Senate.

Last December, Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, told Fox News viewers, “America’s most beautiful cities are indeed being ruined by liberal policies: There’s a direct line between death and decay and liberal policies.”

But a comparison of violent crime rates in jurisdictions controlled by Democrats and Republicans tells a very different story. In fact, a new study from the center-left think tank Third Way shows that states won by Trump in the 2020 election have higher murder rates than those carried by Joe Biden. The highest murder rates, the study found, are often in conservative, rural states.

The study found that murder rates in the 25 states Trump carried in 2020 are 40% higher overall than in the states Biden won. (The report used 2020 data because 2021 data is not yet fully available.) The five states with the highest per capita murder rate — Mississippi, Louisiana, Kentucky, Alabama and Missouri — all lean Republican and voted for Trump.

Judging by the numbers, Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee are obsessed with child pornography.
In four days of Supreme Court confirmation hearings for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, the phrase “child porn” (or “pornography” or “pornographer”) was mentioned 165 times. There were also, according to transcripts, 142 uses of “sex” (“sexual abuse,” “sexual assault,” “sexual intercourse,” “sex crimes”), 15 of “pedophile,” 13 of “predators,” 18 of “prepubescent” and nine of general pornography.
Sign up for a weekly roundup of thought-provoking ideas and debates

There were only 30 mentions of the First Amendment and 12 of the Bill of Rights.
The Republican fixation on pornography continued during Monday’s round of statements by senators before the committee advanced Jackson’s nomination to the Senate floor. A preliminary transcript showed 41 mentions of “porn” or “pornography” and 32 mentions of “sex offenders,” “sexual assault” and the like.
Some of the references to sex and child pornography were made by Democrats defending Jackson. But the bulk came from the likes of Sens. Josh Hawley (Mo.), Ted Cruz (Tex.), Tom Cotton (Ark.), Lindsey O. Graham (S.C.) Marsha Blackburn (Tenn.) and Mike Lee (Utah). They winked at the QAnon conspiracy theorists who believe pedophiles control government by portraying Jackson as an ally of monsters who sexually exploit children — even though her sentencing record is typical and even though these same Republicans elevated half a dozen Trump judicial nominees with similar records in child pornography cases.

“I’m not suggesting she likes what’s happening in child pornography,” Graham allowed. (Gee, thanks.) But “she has a chance to impose a sentence that would deter [child pornography], and she chose not to.”
Lee accused Jackson of “minimizing” punishment for “commercialized efforts to profit off child sex torture” and “sadomasochistic conduct.” Cotton said, “the child pornography cases are just the most sensational examples of her soft-on-crime attitude.”

The ever-mendacious Cruz claimed that “we just last week, after the hearing, got information on another case, United States v. Weekes, of an individual who raped his 13-year-old niece. Judge Jackson sentenced him to half what the prosecutors wanted because he failed to register on a sex registry.”

The European Union is also to propose a ban on exports to Russia worth another 10 billion euros a year, including of semiconductors, computers, technology for LNG gas, and other electrical and transport equipment, the source said.

Russian vessels and trucks would be prevented from accessing the EU, further crippling trade, the source said, with exceptions made for energy products, food and medicines.

The 27-country EU would also ban all transactions with VTB (VTBR.MM) and another three Russian banks which have already been excluded from the SWIFT messaging system, the source said, while dozens more individuals, including oligarchs and politicians, would be added to the EU's sanctions list.

Britain, France and the United States were expected to use the Security Council meeting to present evidence of atrocities that some officials, including President Biden, have described as “war crimes” in northern areas that Russian troops abandoned amid fierce resistance. In one of those places, Bucha, a suburb of the capital, Mr. Zelensky said that more than 300 bodies have been found since Russian forces pulled back last week, some with their hands bound or shot in the back of the head.

When the Yale historian Beverly Gage brought up the president’s relationship with the FBI and the intelligence community—the subject of her chapter in our book—he eventually turned to the Capitol riot of January 6, 2021. According to his memory, the expert opinion was off. The “real story,” Trump argued, “has yet to be written.” When Congress met to certify the Electoral College results, Trump told us, there had been a “peaceful rally,” more than a “million people” who were full of “tremendous love” and believed the election was “rigged” and “robbed” and “stolen.” He made a “very modest” and “very peaceful” speech, a “presidential speech.” The throng at the Capitol was a “massive” and “tremendous” group of people. The day was marred by a small group of left-wing antifa and Black Lives Matter activists who “infiltrated” them and who were not stopped, because of poor decisions by the U.S. Capitol Police when some “bad things happened.”

During our hour together, Trump didn’t have many questions for us. Even in his attempt to correct the record, Trump mostly didn’t acknowledge or engage with informed outside criticisms of his presidency. He did, however, admit to having sometimes retweeted people he shouldn’t have, and at one point he said, “when I didn’t win the election”—phrasing at odds with his false claim that the 2020 vote was stolen.

THE GURDIAN:
‘I didn’t win the election’: Trump admits defeat in session with historians

The ex-president also said that Iran, China and South Korea were happy Biden won, adding that ‘the election was rigged and lost’

Tue 5 Apr 2022 07.22 EDT
Donald Trump has admitted he did not win the 2020 election.

“I didn’t win the election,” he said.

The admission came in a video interview with a panel of historians convened by Julian Zelizer, a Princeton professor and editor of The Presidency of Donald Trump: A First Historical Assessment. The interview was published on Monday by the Atlantic.

Describing his attempts to make South Korea pay more for US military assistance, Trump said Moon Jae-in, the South Korean president, was among the “happiest” world leaders after the 2020 US election put Joe Biden in the White House.

“By not winning the election,” Trump said, “he was the happiest man – I would say, in order, China was – no, Iran was the happiest.

“[Moon] was going to pay $5bn, $5bn a year. But when I didn’t win the election, he had to be the happiest – I would rate, probably, South Korea third- or fourth-happiest.”

Trump also said “the election was rigged and lost”.

Trump’s refusal to accept defeat by Biden fueled both attempts to overturn results in key states in court – the vast majority of such cases ending in defeat – and the deadly attack on the US Capitol on 6 January 2021.

Trump was impeached for a second time, for inciting an insurrection, and acquitted for a second time after enough Senate Republicans stayed loyal.

Trump thus remains free to run for the White House again in 2024, which he has constantly hinted he will do.

Writing for the Atlantic, Zelizer said Trump “was the one who had decided to reach out to a group of professional historians so that we produced ‘an accurate book’”.

The former president called the historians assembled by Zelizer “a tremendous group of people, and I think rather than being critical I’d like to have you hear me out, which is what we’re doing now, and I appreciate it”.

Trump, Zelizer wrote, “seemed to want the approval of historians, without any understanding of how historians gather evidence or render judgments”.

Zelizer also pointed out that shortly after the session with the historians, Trump announced he would give no more interviews for books about his time in office.

“It seems to me that meeting with authors of the ridiculous number of books being written about my very successful administration, or me, is a total waste of time,” Trump said in a statement, in July 2021.

“These writers are often bad people who write whatever comes to their mind or fits their agenda. It has nothing to do with facts or reality.”

WASHINGTON — Ivanka Trump, the daughter and senior White House adviser of former President Donald Trump, is set to testify before the House Jan. 6 committee on Tuesday, three sources tell NBC News.

It was not immediately clear whether Ivanka Trump's expected testimony would happen in-person or virtually. Ivanka Trump's husband and fellow former White House official Jared Kushner testified virtually last week before the committee for six hours.

A representative for Ivanka Trump did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Ivanka Trump was head of the White House Office of Economic Initiatives and Entrepreneurship on Jan. 6 and was in the West Wing that day.

In January, the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol asked for Ivanka Trump's testimony "on a range of critical topics," including her reported comments after the former president's phone call with then-Vice President Mike Pence on the morning of Jan. 6.

The FBI has arrested more than 775 people in connection with the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

In an overnight address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said more than 300 people had been tortured and killed in Bucha, as satellite imagery seemed to back up Ukrainian claims about Russian soldiers shooting and killing civilians left lying in the streets and outside homes.

The Kremlin has claimed that the bodies were staged after Russian soldiers pulled back from the capital region, allegations Ukraine and the West say is misinformation meant to displace blame for such war crimes.

Russian forces on Tuesday were preparing for an offensive in Ukraine’s southeast, the Ukrainian military said, as Zelenskyy prepared to talk to the U.N. Security Council amid outrage over evidence Moscow’s soldiers deliberately killed civilians.

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s government is pouring soldiers into Ukraine’s east to gain control of the industrial heartland known as the Donbas. That follows a Russian withdrawal from towns around the capital, Kyiv, which led to the discovery of corpses and prompted accusations of war crimes and demands for tougher sanctions on Moscow.

Zelensky: Russia 'will try to hide the traces of their crimes'

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused the Russian military of plotting to cover up the mass killing of his country’s civilians in a bid to “distort the facts.”

Speaking in an emotional address to the nation in the early hours of Tuesday morning, Zelensky warned that Kremlin-led forces were attempting to hide the atrocities that were committed in the areas still occupied by Moscow. His speech comes days after hundreds of Ukrainian civilians were reportedly found dead in Kyiv suburbs like Bucha in the aftermath of the recent withdrawal of Russian troops in the region.

In his 10-minute speech, Zelensky accused Russia of using the same propaganda tactics it used when a Malaysia Airlines passenger flight was shot down in 2014 over eastern Ukraine. An independent Dutch investigation found that Russian-backed rebels downed the plane with a surface-to-air missile, killing 298 people. Russia blamed the Ukrainian government for the tragedy.

“They used the same tactics when the occupiers shot down a Malaysian Boeing over Donbas,” Zelensky said. “They blamed Ukraine. They even came up with various conspiracy theories. They even went so far as to claim that the corpses were ‘thrown’ on board the plane before it crashed.”

Zelensky made his comments undoubtedly aware that the Russian government is already promoting implausible theories to explain the images and video of bodies littering the streets of Bucha. The Russian Defense Ministry suggested that some of the dead civilians were actually actors pretending to be dead, claiming that the video shows the bodies still moving. Independent media fact checkers and satellite images contradict Russia’s claims; the many journalists documenting the aftermath of the killings also undermine Russia’s case.

“We must also be aware that after the revealed mass killings of civilians in the Kyiv region, the occupiers may have a different attitude to their crimes in another part of our country where they came,” Zelensky said. “They are already launching a false campaign to conceal their guilt in the mass killings of civilians in Mariupol. They will do dozens of stage interviews, reedited recordings, and will kill people specifically to make it look like they were killed by someone else.”

He added: “Probably now the occupiers will try to hide the traces of their crimes. They did not do this in Bucha when they retreated. But in another area it is possible.”

Alky,

Please post the link to the video several dozen more times. Doing so makes you look really, really smart.

The dishonest left is back to their same tactics they used with the "Good people on both sides" hoax

They leave off the full statement and context.

And keep repeating their lies

Imagine if that was used on Biden

He would have been impeached and convicted by now

The left is just dishonest, indecent and untruthful

it's the democrat party brand

We can fix this problem legally.

Following the 2020 Census—in which North Carolina’s population surge of almost a million residents earned the state a larger congressional apportionment—the GOP crafted maps that used packing and cracking schemes to dilute Black representation. Advocates successfully challenged the maps in the state courts—and had the midterm primary elections delayed from March to May to litigate corrections.

Black voters in Alabama are also fighting back, contending in lawsuits that the state GOP failed to account for population growth in a new map for congressional districts. And most importantly for the representation of a Black community that comprises 27 percent of the electorate, a three-judge federal panel agreed with advocates that the Alabama GOP’s map violates the VRA and should be corrected. However, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the ruling in a 5-4 decision, allowing the maps to remain in effect while the case is litigated in the lower courts.

Meanwhile, in Georgia, voters are challenging the GOP-drawn maps for state and congressional districts. Causing notable controversy has been the packing of Black voters—and the cracking of other racial minority communities—in the suburban Atlanta congressional districts. (Blacks comprise about 35 percent of the Peach State population.) Advocates filed a lawsuit in federal court accusing the GOP legislature of diluting Black representation in Congress and in the state legislature.

It’s hard to believe we’re doing this again, but nearly six decades after President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act, Black voters still must advocate for districts that represent their interests. As in the past, the usual arenas of appeal are state and federal courts, local and state legislatures, mayors and governors. By December 2021, about 28 lawsuits were filed in objection to new congressional maps on the grounds of race discrimination, according to the Brennan Center.

Biden Must Fulfill His Promise to Protect the Black Vote

MAKE GOOD, JOE

And it all stems from the way that SCOTUS effectively neutered the VRA in 2013.

Congress had an opportunity to address the denial of the vote and representation in January by passing the “Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act,” a merging of two Democrat-sponsored voting rights bills, the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Act. But the bill died on the Senate floor.

Had it passed, the law would have established new protections against racial discrimination in voting and election administration. The John Lewis Act alone would have rekindled provisions in the VRA weakened by the Supreme Court.

However, there is still a chance for Congress to revisit the issue and get it right. That chance is the bipartisan talks over a prospective bill known as the “Electoral Count Act,” which would reform how votes for president are verified by the Electoral College and certified by Congress—and to avoid a replay of the Jan. 6 insurrection chaos.

No need, shitstain.

I'm already on the record on this blog as seeking incontrovertible and independently verified evidence as to exactly who committed the atrocities.
