Trump at ‘all-time high’ in 2024 betting, swamps Biden
Gamblers are betting the farm that former President Donald Trump will enter the 2024 race and win. The betting aggregator Smarkets told Secrets that the money backing Trump is the highest yet in the 2024 race.
“Donald Trump is increasingly likely to be elected president in 2024, after hitting an all-time high in the latest betting-market prices on the Smarkets exchange,” said the outfit, which is known for its interactive scorecard of candidates.

I heard the most liberals really miss Trump and will likely cross over and vote for him!

It seems more likely than ever that Donald Trump will run for president again in 2024, and if you want to know what his campaign will be about, look no further than his journey to Wyoming this past weekend to try to destroy Rep. Liz Cheney, one of the few Republicans in Congress who turned against him.

Trump’s political project can now be described in a single word: spite.

No agenda except fascism

Beyond that it gets difficult. Except that military semiautomatic weapons can be banned in the future.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden said Monday that the “Second Amendment was never absolute” and that, after the Texas elementary school shooting, there may be some bipartisan support to tighten restrictions on the kind of high-powered weapons used by the gunman.

“I think things have gotten so bad that everybody’s getting more rational, at least that’s my hope,” Biden told reporters before honoring the nation’s fallen in Memorial Day remarks at Arlington National Cemetery.

His comments came a day after he traveled to the shattered Texas community of Uvalde, mourning privately for three-plus hours with anguished families grieving for the 19 children and two teachers who died in the shooting. Faced with chants of “do something” as he departed a church service, Biden pledged: “We will.”

After the Uvalde trip, Biden spent Sunday night at his home in Delaware. As he arrived at the White House for Memorial Day events, he was asked if he’s now more motivated to see new federal limits imposed on firearms

When she traveled to New Hampshire earlier this year to give a keynote address to state Democrats, political observers couldn’t help but think she was quietly building the groundwork for a potential 2024 run.

Hillary Clinton won the popular vote, and she doesn't have the problems and history. She would destroy DeSantis. She would get Wisconsin. Illinois even Iowa. Georgia, even Louisiana and maybe Florida.

The European and awesome..

BRUSSELS, May 30 (Reuters) - EU leaders agreed on Monday to ban the export of Russian oil to the 27-nation bloc, EU Council President Charles Michel said.

"This immediately covers more than two thirds of oil imports from Russia, cutting a huge source of financing for its war machine," Michel wrote on Twitter.

The leaders also agreed to cut off the largest Russian bank Sberbank from the SWIFT system and to ban three more Russian state-owned broadcasters, he added.

BRUSSELS — The European Union on Monday agreed to ban most imports of Russian oil, the harshest economic penalty yet imposed on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, and potentially the biggest sacrifice by Europe, itself.

They are hurting their own business and countries

The deal is the latest and most far-reaching demonstration that over more than three months of war, in reaction to mounting Russian aggression and atrocities, European leaders have grown willing to take steps they considered too extreme when the invasion began. They have already barred imports of Russian natural gas, cut off Russian banks from global financial networks, frozen Russian assets and sent advanced weaponry to Ukraine.

Here is my first draft of a
Letter to the editor:

America is now in grave danger from those who want to destroy democracy. They want to end government that is “of the people, by the people, and for the people,” in order to replace it with a government that is of the wealthy, by the wealthy, and – exclusively – for the wealthy.

The legitimacy of our constitutional republic depends on the choices the American people make. “In our land, voters choose their leaders. In dictatorships, the leaders make that choice.”

That is the major difference between American democracy on the one hand, and the sort of autocractic, kleptocratic dictatorship that is now being espoused by far too many on the American right.

Too many right wing extremists have been moving in an autocratic direction now for years, and they have been getting quite good at misleading many of our people into thinking they are for the middle class and for the public good, when actually they only want to solidify the lucrative financial and political support they can get by satisfying the selfish greed of the ultra wealthy.

Donald Trump was so determined to hold on to office and stay in power that he attempted to negate the voters’ legitimate choice, and thus he criminally put himself above the law and above the Constitution.

Attorney General Merrick Garland, although under intense pressure to act, has steadfastly resisted being stampeded into prosecuting Trump. Committed to thoroughness, Garland has carefully, steadfastly been gathering evidence – evidence he says he intends to follow wherever it may lead. And in doing that, he promises, he will strictly apply the law -- without any fear or favor.

Soon we will be seeing the results of Garland’s search for evidence, and Americans had better pay attention.

He may offer us our last best chance to save democracy.

Yolanda Renee King, the granddaughter of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., is an activist and eighth-grader.

I never met my grandfather the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. because he was taken from my family by gun violence. But I know the mark that he and my grandmother Coretta Scott King left on American history. I know that the challenges my generation faces resemble those that led my grandparents to march on Washington and other cities to demand change.
I am 14 years old, and once again I am afraid. Two major mass shootings in 10 days. In Buffalo, our elders, many of whom share the same complexion as me, were gunned down while simply shopping for groceries. In Uvalde, Tex., 19 children not too much younger than me were murdered in their school.

Enough is enough.

Most people won’t take a 14-year-old seriously when it comes to addressing gun violence. What do I know, right? Well, I know when it is time for change. I know it is my duty as an American to use the platform given to me by my grandparents’ sacrifices to uplift the voices of my peers. It is my duty to speak up as a child who lost both her grandfather and great-grandmother to gun violence. For too long, voices like mine have gone ignored.

Oh Alky don’t forget gun controls very racist roots, I’m not surprised you and pedo are fans

“For much of American history, gun-control measures, like many other laws, were used to oppress African Americans,” Adam Winkler, a constitutional scholar at UCLA, has written. In blatant disregard of the Second Amendment’s guarantee, Southern states enacted laws prohibiting Black people, enslaved and free alike, from owning firearms. A Florida statute enacted in 1825 empowered white citizen patrols to “enter into all Negro houses and suspected places,” search for weapons, and “lawfully seize and take away all such arms, weapons, and ammunition.” In 1831, the Maryland legislature passed a law banning free Black residents from carrying arms. The Tennessee constitution — which had formerly guaranteed gun rights to “the freemen of this State” — was amended in 1834 to restrict those rights only to “the free white men of this State.”

All such laws were, of course, egregious violations of the Second Amendment. In fact, some prominent abolitionists, such as the brilliant Massachusetts lawyer Lysander Spooner, argued that ratification of the Second Amendment had made slavery itself unconstitutional. “This right of a man ‘to keep and bear arms,’ is a right palpably inconsistent with the idea of his being a slave,” wrote Spooner in 1860. The constitutional right to keep arms, he pointed out, “implies the constitutional right to use them, if need be, for the defense of one’s liberty or life.” The logic was unassailable, which is why slavery’s supporters went to such grotesque lengths to evade it. In Dred Scott v. Sandford, the Supreme Court got around the problem by ruling that Black people didn’t count as US citizens. If they were, Chief Justice Roger Taney wrote, the Second Amendment “would give to persons of the negro race . . . the right . . . to keep and carry arms wherever they went.” To Taney, that was unthinkable.

After the Civil War, racists continued to use gun control as a tool of white supremacy. A common provision of the postwar Black Codes adopted by Southern states made it illegal for the freedmen to possess firearms. To enforce those laws, white men assembled posses to intimidate Black communities in the South and ensure they weren’t armed. The most notorious of those gun-control posses called itself the Ku Klux Klan.

Conversely, defenders of equality throughout US history, both white and Black, have understood the importance of gun rights to civil rights. During the original congressional debate over the Fourteenth Amendment, Michigan Senator Jacob Howard stressed the importance of protecting “the personal rights guaranteed and secured by the first eight amendments to the Constitution, such as . . . the right to keep and bear arms.” The Second Amendment was as indispensable to Black liberty as the rest of the Bill of Rights. A favorite formulation of Frederick Douglass was that if Black people were to be really free, “they must have the cartridge box, the jury box, and the ballot box to protect them.”

To the framers of the post-Civil War amendments, it was self-evident that the right of freed slaves to have guns for self-defense was essential to their full-fledged citizenship. “Between 1775 and 1866,” Yale law professor Akhil Reed Amar wrote in his acclaimed book on the Bill of Rights, “the poster boy of arms morphed from the Concord minuteman to the Carolina freedman.”

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden will meet Tuesday with Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell as soaring inflation takes a bite out of Americans’ pocketbooks.

The meeting will be the first since Biden renominated Powell to lead the central bank and comes weeks after his confirmation for a second term by the Senate.

The White House said the pair would discuss the state of the U.S. and global economy and especially inflation, described as Biden’s “top economic priority.” The goal, the White House said, is a “transition from an historic economic recovery to stable, steady growth that works for working families.”

Inflation in the U.S. hit a 40-year high earlier this year, amid supply chain constraints caused by the global economy’s recovery from the pandemic and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

But the economy saw a welcome bit of data Friday, as the Commerce Department said inflation rose 6.3% in April from a year earlier, the first slowdown since November 2020 and a sign that high prices may finally be moderating, at least for now

The dots are easy to connect, because they’re so close together, and because they’re the entry and exit wounds inflicted on US society by the subculture whose sacrament is the gun. Texas, while tightening restrictions on abortion, has steadily loosened them on guns. These weapons are symbols of a peculiar version of masculinity made up of unlimited freedom, power, domination, of a soldier identity in which every gunslinger is the commander and anyone is a potential target, in which fear drives belligerence, and the gun owners rights extend so far no one has the right to be safe from him. Right now it’s part of a white-supremacist war cult.

“Maximum pressure on Russia to end the war,” Michel continued.

The deal is a huge step for the EU’s 27 economies ― for which Russia is a major source of energy ― and a big boost for the Ukrainians. The policy will cut off around 70% of Russian oil immediately by halting tankers, and officials 0say it will eventually cease over 90% of Russian oil sales. Though the plan exempts oil transfers by pipelines for now, European diplomats say that trade could also ultimately be stopped.

President Joe Biden’s job approval rating over the Memorial Day weekend is underwater in 47 states, including the typically dark blue California and his home state of Delaware, according to the CIVIQS rolling job approval average.

Biden is underwater in 47 states, including California, which overwhelmingly voted for him in 2020, and his home state of Delaware:

...

The poll showed Biden’s job approval is back down to 34 percent, down from the 35 percent earlier in the month with the respondents. The poll also showed that the president has a 55 percent disapproval, while ten percent have no opinion.

Overall, Biden has a net approval of negative 21.

Additionally, Biden is underwater with independent respondents — one of the blocs in the country that have become increasingly important to win elections over the years. Only 22 percent of independent respondents say they approve of Biden, while 65 percent disapprove, with 13 percent having no opinion.

In the wake of mass shootings in Uvalde, Texas, and Buffalo, New York, right-wing conspiracy theories moved faster than ever from fringe to the mainstream, thanks to a misinformation infrastructure that's grown stronger over time.

Why it matters: The pipeline of misinformation moving from obscure internet platforms to the mouths of sitting members of Congress "seems to be going a lot faster now," said Bryce Webster-Jacobsen, director of intelligence operations at GroupSense, a threat intelligence firm.

"The misinformation narratives that start on places like 4chan or Reddit make it to the public consciousness really quickly," he added. They're "getting picked up by individuals with more power and louder voices," said Jared Holt, resident fellow at Atlantic Council's Digital Forensic Research Lab. "So the effect of misinformation has felt like it's multiplying."

Details: In the wake of the Buffalo and Uvalde shootings, several big conspiracy theories quickly took hold, with many falsely characterizing the shooter or victims to match fringe political narratives.

In Uvalde, misinformation falsely claiming the shooter was transgender appears to have quickly spread from 4chan, an anonymous message board, to the mainstream. The pictures used to support the falsehood were pulled from a user on Reddit. Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) tweeted that the shooter was a "transsexual leftist illegal alien," but later deleted the post.In Buffalo, misinformation falsely claiming that the shooting was a "false flag" operation — an attack disguised to look like it was made by the opposite side in a conflict — spread quickly in the aftermath of the massacre. A conservative Arizona state lawmaker is under investigation by the Arizona Senate for her Telegram post endorsing the theory.

Be smart: Conspiracy theories can work both ways, rewriting history after terrible tragedies or inspiring the events in the first place.

The "Great Replacement" conspiracy theory that motivated the Buffalo gunman had been echoed by conservative members of Congress and mainstream conservative media personalities.

Commissioners in Nye County, Nevada, meanwhile, want local election officials to begin hand-counting paper ballots in this year’s elections.

And in Arizona, two Trump-aligned candidates for statewide office have gone to court in a long-shot bid to bar the use of machines to record and count votes in a battleground state with more than 4 million voters – and key Senate and gubernatorial races this year.

These pockets of resistance to voting machines mark another attempt by Republicans sold on former President Donald Trump’s baseless claims of election fraud to transform how US elections are run. So far, most efforts have been thwarted at the state level. But critics warn that the moves, if successful in just a handful of localities, would result in delays and chaos and potentially open the door to election subversion efforts.

GOP push for hand-counting paper ballots is latest effort to cast doubt on elections

Reverting to hand-counting would “take election administration back to the horse and buggy era” and is “wildly impractical” for large jurisdictions with millions of voters, said Victoria Bassetti, a senior adviser to the States United Democracy Center, a nonpartisan group working on fair and secure elections.

We need more kids like this and fewer grievance monger, CRT, snowflake majors.

Though a "letter of intent" ceremony is typically held when a high school athlete announces where they'll go to college, one Kentucky high schooler had his own to sign with a plumbing company.

According to WDKY, Montgomery County High School senior Jacob Bradley signed a letter of intent to join Fast Flow Plumbing after his graduation this month. He'll join the company as an apprentice and work under a master plumber for two years before earning his journeyman's license.

"It's just more of my style," Bradley told WKYT after signing with the Fast Flow Plumbing. "I was never really wanting to be an accountant or sit down."

"I enjoy working with my hands a lot and just the environment and those types of people," he added.

Bradley's ceremony, which took place May 18, was the first non-athletic signing event for the high school, counselor Lacy Gross told WKYT.

Happy Tuesday 😊

“Peter Navarro, who as a White House adviser to President Donald Trump worked to keep Mr. Trump in office after his defeat in the 2020 election, disclosed on Monday that he has been summoned to testify on Thursday to a federal grand jury and to provide prosecutors with any records he has related to the attack on the Capitol last year, including ‘any communications’ with Mr. Trump,” the New York Times reports.

“The subpoena to Mr. Navarro — which he said the F.B.I. served at his house last week — seeks his testimony about materials related to the buildup to the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, and signals that the Justice Department investigation may be progressing to include activities of people in the White House.”

The construction unions have been doing that for a hundred years now.

The four major trades are Carpenters, electricians, mechanical systems and plumbing.

The new infrastructure legislation will strengthen them nationwide..

No mention of unions in the story alky.

Probably because everything unions touch turns to complete SHIT.

Teachers unions, UAW CWA, IBEW, CSEA...

...all enemies of the state and the working people of this country.

Bradley told WKYT that he one day hopes to become a franchise owner with Fast Flow Plumbing, "if [Crum] sees I work hard enough for him," he said.

If he wants to be a successful owner he sure as shit isn't going to want a union anywhere near his shop.

Guns symbolize the power of a minority over the majority, and they’ve become the icons of a party that has become a cult seeking minority power through the stripping away of voting rights and persecution of women, immigrants, black people, queer people, trans people – all of whom have been targeted by mass shootings in recent years. This is the same party that sought to overturn an election through violence whipped up from on high, by the cult leaders, including the former president and various pundits and demagogues. “Trial by combat,” wheezed Rudy Giuliani as he incited the crowd to go rampage through Congress. If guns are icons it’s because violence is a sacrament defended as a right and an identity.

Semiautomatic weapons are instruments of death perpetrated by a death cult. And the carnage will continue until the majority can overrule the minority in power that profits from and perpetrates it.

Nothing to see here... move along.:

More than 30 people lost their lives from gun violence around the country over a blood-spattered Memorial Day weekend — just days after the tragic school shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

Dozens of victims — including 13 in Philadelphia alone — lost their lives with violence spiraling across the nation.

The City of Brotherly Love was anything but over the holiday weekend, with the staggering body count including a father and his 9-year-old son, according to local reports.

Gerald Parks, 38, and his boy, Jamel, were sprayed with bullets and killed in their car after going to a cookout, CBS 3 reported.

In another incident early Monday, two women were killed and a 14-year-old child injured in a shooting at an outdoor hookah smoking party.

At least a dozen other Philadelphians were also wounded by gunfire, cops said.

Chicago saw at least six people killed over the weekend and another 34 injured.

In one incident, a 69-year-old man was killed by a suspect who later barricaded himself in an abandoned building during a 90-minute standoff with a Chicago SWAT team.

Maryland suffered at least four shooting deaths, including a 17-year-old boy and two men involved in a separate triple shooting in Baltimore.

The weekend mayhem was marked by several shootings that injured multiple people.

Biden sees exodus of Black staffers and some frustration among those who remain

At least 21 Black staffers have left the White House since late last year or are planning to leave soon. Some of those who remain say it’s no wonder why: They describe a work environment with little support from their superiors and fewer chances for promotion.

The departures have been so pronounced that, according to one current and one former White House official, some Black aides have adopted a term for them: “Blaxit.”

Latest draft of my proposed letter to the editor:

America is now in grave danger from those who want to destroy democracy, who want to end government “of the people, by the people, and for the people,” in order to replace it with government that is of the wealthy, by the wealthy, and – exclusively – for the wealthy.

The legitimacy of our constitutional republic depends on the choices the American people make. “In our land, voters choose their leaders. In dictatorships, the leaders make that choice.”

That is the major difference between American democracy on the one hand, and the sort of autocractic and kleptocratic dictatorship that is now being espoused by far too many on the American right.

Right wing extremists have been moving in that direction now for years, and have been getting quite good at misleading many of our people into thinking they are for the middle class and for the public good, when actually they are interested only in solidifying the lucrative financial and political support they can get by satisfying the selfish greed of the ultra wealthy.

Donald Trump was so determined to hold on to office and stay in power that he attempted to negate the legitimate choice of American voters, and in doing that, he criminally tried to put himself above the law and the Constitution.

Attorney General Merrick Garland, although under intense pressure to act, has steadfastly resisted being stampeded into prosecuting Trump. In his commitment to thoroughness, Garland has been carefully gathering evidence – evidence he says he intends to follow wherever it may lead. And, he promises, he will strictly apply the law -- without any fear or favor.

Soon we will be seeing the results of Garland’s investigations. Americans will do well to pay attention, for this may offer us our last best chance to save democracy.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Diane Murray struggled with her decision all the way up to Election Day.

But when the time came, the 54-year-old Georgia Democrat cast a ballot in last week’s Republican primary for Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. While state law allowed her to participate in either party’s primary, she said it felt like a violation of her core values to vote for the Republican. But it had to be done, she decided, to prevent a Donald Trump -backed “election denier” from becoming the battleground state’s election chief.

“I feel strongly that our democracy is at risk, and that people who are holding up the big lie, as we call it, and holding onto the former president are dangerous to democracy,” said Murray, who works at the University of Georgia. “I don’t know I’ll do it again because of how I felt afterward. I just felt icky.”

Raffensperger, a conservative who refused to support the former president’s direct calls to overturn the 2020 election, probably would not have won the May 24 Republican primary without people like Murray.
