School Shooting in Texas - Shooter Identified as Salvador Romas

Pretty sure he will be defined as a Hispanic White Supremacist or something...

Abbott identified the suspect as Salvador Romas, a Uvalde resident, who is also dead and acted alone, authorities said. He had a handgun and possibly a rifle when he opened fire at Robb Elementary School, he said. Two police officers were shot and wounded but were expected to survive, Abbott said.

It's not a hate crime.

But we need screening for gun purchaser's background.

Thoughts and prayers. It began as a cliché. It became a joke. It has putrefied into a national shame.

If tonight, Americans do turn heavenward in pain and grief for the lost children of Uvalde, Texas, they may hear the answer delivered in the Bible through the words of Isaiah:

“And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.”

We will learn more about the 18-year-old killer of elementary-school children: his personality, his ideology, whatever confection of hate and cruelty drove him to his horrible crime. But we already know the answer to one question: Who put the weapon of mass murder into his hand? The answer to that question is that the public policy of this country armed him.

Every other democracy makes some considerable effort to keep guns away from dangerous people, and dangerous people away from guns. For many years—and especially since the massacre at Connecticut’s Sandy Hook Elementary School almost a decade ago—the United States has put more and more guns into more and more hands: 120 guns per 100 people in this country. The years of the pandemic have been the years of the greatest gun sales in U.S. history: almost 20 million guns sold in 2020; another 18.5 million sold in 2021. No surprise, those two years also witnessed a surge in gun violence: the spectacular human butchery of our recurring mass slaughters; the surge of one-on-one lethal criminality; the unceasing tragic toll of carelessness as American gun owners hurt and kill their loved ones and themselves.

The lobbying groups and politicians who enable these killers will dominate the federal courts and state governments, as they do today, until the mighty forces of decency and kindness in American life say to the enablers:

“That’s enough! This must stop—and we will stop you.”

Biden's Shooting

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

“As a nation we have to ask: When in God’s name are we going to stand up to the gun lobby?” Biden said in an address to the nation.

“How many scores of little children, who witnessed what happened, see their friends die as if they’re in a battlefield for God’s sake?

At least 18 children and a teacher were killed after the shooting at Robb Elementary School, a Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson said.

Salvador Ramos, an 18-year-old Uvalde resident, is also dead after opening fire at the school, officials said, apparently killed by officers at the scene. Two people familiar with the investigation said the initial evidence indicates the gunman bought the weapons used in the attack shortly after his 18th birthday — May 16.

I'm sorry that you made it political, instead of praying for their families.

ATLANTA — In a major blow to Donald Trump’s reputation as the Republican kingmaker, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp trounced former Sen. David Perdue in the GOP primary for governor. The double-digit blowout came despite the fact that Trump had endorsed Perdue and cleared the field of other challengers, while making Kemp his single biggest target for defeat during the primary season.

Georgia has been the object of Trump’s obsession since losing the state in the 2020 presidential race and waging a conspiracy-laden and ultimately unsuccessful pressure campaign to overturn the results. Backing Perdue was the primary focus of his revenge campaign, a strategy that has now been soundly repudiated by Georgia voters.

In Loch’s opinion, candidates like Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) lack the characteristics needed in a representative.

“Any politician that feels that President Trump won the election and had it stolen from him just isn’t on reality right now,” said Loch, who works as a homeland security professor at a major university that caters to the military. “It’s ridiculous to even promote that, and where my party is right now, where they’re so scared of any negative word from President Trump, is just ridiculous to me.”

In the end, however, Loch just hopes to gain political representatives who are “independent-minded” and can “stand up for themselves and not feel they need to follow like they’re told to follow by those who support President Trump.”

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

We need to make a big deal out of the fact that the Republican voters keep sending their representatives back to D.C. when they are the problem. They're the ones keeping America in this situation. Democrats have always wanted gun control. We need to treat the voters like they're just as much the problem as their POS representatives. They and the NRA have blood on their hands from every mass shooting. No sane country has the stupid laws we have where any crazy idiot can go anywhere and shoot up large groups of people. This is insane!

This might change things

Trump's Georgia grudgefest flops as Republican voters also re-nominate attorney general: report

Bob Brigham

May 24, 2022

Donald Trump suffered a humiliating loss in Georgia as he sought to punish state Republicans who did not go along with his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

Trump lost the high-profile gubernatorial race as Gov. Brian Kemp defeated former Sen. David Perdue. It was the third week in a row a Trump-endorsed candidate lost a gubernatorial race.

That was the only race Trump lost on Tuesday.

"Georgia’s Republican attorney general has defeated a GOP primary challenger who entered the race with the backing of former President Donald Trump. Unofficial election returns show Attorney General Chris Carr winning the Republican nomination over John Gordon, who largely campaigned on Trump’s baseless allegations of widespread election fraud," the Associated Press reported Tuesday evening.

NBC News also projected that Carr won the race.

Trump called Carr the “Do Nothing” attorney general when he endorsed Gordon.

Biden has consistently called for Congress to pass a ban on assault weapons and expand background checks for gun sales, including in the wake of mass shootings in Atlanta and Buffalo.

But it’s unclear and even doubtful that the latest mass shooting will spur concrete action in Congress, where Republicans have long been opposed to enacting gun restrictions. One tragic mass shooting after another has not broken the partisan stalemate around guns. Senate Democrats are unable to pass new gun restrictions strictly along partisan lines because of the legislative filibuster that requires at least 10 votes to advance most bills.

Biden offered a warning to those who “obstruct” renewed efforts to restrict access to firearms on Tuesday: “We need to let you know that we will not forget.”

Biden, who often shares his personal experiences with grief after losing two children, has spent much of his young presidency consoling the nation through the COVID-19 pandemic and other tragedies.

During his speech, Biden recalled the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary shooting that occurred during the Obama administration when he served as vice president. He said there have been more than 900 incidents of gun fire since then.

A ban on assault weapons and expand background checks for gun sales are Constitutional.

After the assassination attempt on Ronald Reagan if I remember correctly assault weapons were banned from a few years...

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

I watched him

Speaking to reporters afterward, Murphy did not mince words about the anticipated Republican reaction to the shooting – that the United States needs to do more to address mental illness, and that guns are not inherently the problem.

“Spare me the bullshit about mental illness,” Murphy said. “We don’t have any more mental illness than any other country in the world. You cannot explain this through a prism of mental illness because we’re not an outlier on mental illness … We’re an outlier when it comes to access to firearms and the ability of criminals and very sick people to get their arms on firearms. That’s what makes America different.”

In his emotive speech on the Senate floor, the senator then clasped his hands together and pleaded with Republicans to help Democrats pass meaningful gun reform legislation.

“I am here on this floor to beg, to literally get down on my hands and knees to beg my colleagues: find a path forward here,” he said.

Few senators understand the horror mass shootings inflict on a community quite like Murphy, who spent the hours after the massacre at Sandy Hook elementary school consoling families who had lost children and loved ones.

President Joe Biden quoted scripture during a White House speech Tuesday evening.

“Where in God’s name is our backbone to have the courage to deal with and stand up to the lobbies?” Biden asked.

“I am sick and tired of it,” the president said of mass shootings.  “We have to act. And don’t tell me we can’t have an impact on this carnage.”

Attorney General Merrick Garland called the incident an “act of unspeakable violence” that “has devastated an entire community and shaken our country.”

“FBI and ATF agents have responded to the scene, and the Justice Department is committed to providing our full support to our law enforcement partners on the ground in Texas and to the Uvalde community,” Garland said.  “We join our fellow Americans in mourning this terrible loss and in their resolve to end this senseless violence.”

"As everyone in the Great State of Georgia is aware, Carr did absolutely nothing to stop the 2020 Presidential Election Fraud which, as facts have shown, and are showing, was rampant. He spent more time hunting those people who fought for the truth than he did those who cheated in the Election. Chris Carr was a disaster every step of the way. He wasn’t looking for Election Integrity, but rather, an easy way out," Trump argued.

Trump promised Gordon would "never let you down!"

The issue is not the type of firearm, it’s not the magazine capacity, it’s not even the fact that it’s a firearm, and it’s surely not what flavor of politics the killer claims or espouses. The issue is mental health and criminal behavior. As long as we are letting the crazies and the crooks run the streets, we’re going to have dead people.

https://thehashtag.us/the-texas-sharpshooter/

So yeah, go after the guns and law abiding gun owners with more laws. Because criminals always, by definition, follow the law.

Legislate against the spooky looking guns. And let those laws be drafted and passed by the dumbest among us. Those who walk the halls of congress. Those who really do believe that the "AR" in AR-15 stands for "assault rifle."

But above all, do not, under any circumstances address the root cause - Criminals, and mental illness itself. Oh no. We can't have that.

Never forget that the shooter in Buffalo was KNOWN to the NY State Police.

KNOWN. This fucking nutbag was on their fucking radar. And they did nothing.

So please, erect more obstacles that the law-abiding must endure. Because they and their firearms will never hurt anyone. But assholes like FJB and Chris Murphy can feel better about themselves. And fund raise. Don't forget the fund raising because in times like these, that is what all the bluster is really all about.

The "instrument to kill people" is the person holding the gun, BWAA.

The gun is an inanimate object. A tool. From where I type this I have 6 within five feet of me. Just sitting there. A threat to exactly NO one.

And yes, for me and many others it is a "typical hunting rifle" as I use it to dispatch woodchucks on local farms. Along with my .22 hornet which shoots 45 gr bullets with a 5 shot magazine. Also lethal for woodchucks and other small game. The only difference being the hornet is bolt action vs. the AR which is semi-auto.

Going after the AR's is as intellectually lazy as one can get. Which is exactly why it is the default position of every democrat everywhere.

On the same day, the far-right lawmaker brushed aside the need for curtailing weapons access in the wake of the Texas school shooting that left at least 19 children dead.

Greene cast the attack as a mental-health issue and tweeted: “We don’t need more gun control. We need to return to God.”

ch shoots 45 gr bullets with a 5 shot magazine. Also lethal for woodchucks and other small game. The only difference being the hornet is bolt action vs. the AR which is semi-auto.

THE ONLY DIFFERENCE????? How many rounds can you get off in 10 seconds with a bolt action ?????? Please, I have a 6 mm reminigton with a bushnell scoop shooting a 40 grain at close to 4000 fps!!!! NO ONE IS GOING TO BAN YOUR BOLT ACTION RIFLE ASSHOLE!!!!!

The social rot that’s come over America, the nihilism and hatred of each other, is part of the cause here. The dissolution of our social ties—and with them the accountability and responsibility that an actual community demands—has allowed insanity to fester unnoticed. Lockdowns accelerated the isolation, the purposelessness, the lack of meaning that was already overcoming us.

If we insist on viewing this shooting as part of some isolated issue or species of violence, then we miss the point. The point is the country is being consumed by what Philip Roth famously called “the indigenous American berserk.” It stretches back many decades, or longer, and for ages, it was possible to ignore or compartmentalize. Now the brokenness is everywhere we look and it is impossible to unsee it.

Biden's approval sets negative record – poll
New Reuters poll suggests Biden's approval rating sank to 36% this week, the lowest of his presidency so far

Joe Biden's popularity among American voters continues to slip, according to a Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll published on Tuesday, which revealed that only 36% of respondents favorably view his presidency. This is the lowest score since he took office.

The poll, which gathered responses from a total of 1,005 adults, including 456 Democrats and 358 Republicans, suggests that more than half of Americans (59%) are dissatisfied with Biden’s performance as president. The approval rating of 36% was down by 6 percentage points in just one week from the previous 42% reading.

If anything, Biden is more like Ronald Reagan.

Reagan defeated the symbol of the old era. Biden did, too. Reagan faced high inflation and prices, high unemployment and an international crisis (that is, Cold War). The Federal Reserve’s efforts to beat inflation caused a recession mere months into his first term.

Biden is facing similar conditions but with the addition of a global covid pandemic that has rearranged the labor market, strained supply chains and given cover to corporations to use their monopoly power to price-gouge consumers – all of which has culminated in high prices. The US is also in a standoff with the Kremlin, which has crimped global oil and gas supplies. Like Reagan, Biden is in the teeth of an oil shock.

If today’s conventional wisdom were applied to the 1982 midterms, Reagan and the Republicans would be doomed. Yet the outcome that year was virtually unchanged from the results of 1980. The Republicans held the Senate. The Democrats held the House. Indeed, that year’s midterms are entirely missing from today’s discourse. The pundit corps has convinced itself the Democrats will be wiped out.

Will this year be a reprisal of 1982?

I don’t know.

I do know Jimmy Carter and Donald Trump were conclusions. Reagan was the beginning. Biden appears to be on course to follow suit.

“We may not win Tuesday, but I can damn guarantee you that we are not down 30 points.”

Well, he was right. Brian Kemp leads Perdue by 52 percentage points as of the latest tally.

He is a man who cares and loves others more than himself.

In the Roosevelt Room, the first lady wore black. The president, a blue suit with a white pocket square and blue tie, the same clothes he wore when he boarded Air Force One in Tokyo for the 17-hour flight back to America. He didn’t have time to change before a speech he didn’t want to make.

“I had hoped,” Biden intoned, “when I became president, I would not have to do this again.”

Biden  learned of the attack at 30,000 feet somewhere over the Pacific Ocean. A gunman in Texas had murdered 19 children and two adults at an elementary school on Tuesday before authorities shot him dead. It was the deadliest school shooting since Sandy Hook Elementary a decade earlier. The children in Uvalde, Texas were two days from the start of their summer break.

The president  spoke first of the victims, the “beautiful, innocent second, third, fourth graders.” He shuddered at the horror that little survivors would always remember “as if they are on a battlefield.” He remembered the parents “who will never see their child, never have them jump in bed and cuddle with them; parents who will never be the same.”

While Biden did not mention how he lost his own children, he relived that loss all the same, explaining from personal experience how losing a child “is like having a piece of your soul ripped away.” You feel it, he said, “there's a hollowness in your chest. You feel like you're being sucked into it and never going to be able to get out, suffocating.”

When in God's name we do what we all know in our gut needs to be done?”

Good morning dear friends. What new hell happened yesterday? Not only are Black 🖤people not safe in America, our children aren't safe in America, virtually no one is safe in America!

Our society is rotten to the core. The SCOTUS is full of liars. The Congress is full of Insurrectionists. The churches are full of heretics. The corporations seek to bleed us dry. The NRA floods our country with guns. The "media" lies, lies, and lies. There is propaganda at every turn. The rich get richer and the poor are destitute.

The pandemic takes another swing at us. We have shortages in baby formula of all things. Really?? We have the perinatal mortality rate of a third world country. Why?

Our bridges and roads are crumbling. Our public education system is failing and has been under attack by "Conservatives". The lines have been blurred between church and state much to our detriment. Democracy teeters on the abyss.

How did we get here? We were asleep at the wheel. When did we get here. Harken back to the Nixon administration. The slow progression started then but the precipitous slide was the Trump assault on America.

It is the guns that have done us the most existential damage. Why? Because it is random. A movie theater, concert venue, church, grocery store, school, night club. All these places that we frequent with the expectation of safety.

We go to bed at night, we don't expect to be killed in a drive by. We are.

I know how it feels to lose a child. It tears the soul out of you. You walk around not able to take a deep breath. If you are able slip into exhausted sleep, you wake up in tears. What I don't understand is how it feels to lose a child to gun violence.

This was NOT a thing when I was raising kids. It certainly wasn't a thing when I was growing up.

It is time for Congress to forego the NRA money and do what is good and right for the nation for a change. There are two major issues that will color the midterm elections.

Women are not going to lose Roe v Wade without making themselves heard. Parents are not going to let yet another school massacre go unanswered.

I am tired.. Blood shouldn't run in our streets in service to lax gun laws. It is time out for this. What goes on in a woman's doctor's office is none of my business.

We can fix our society before it disintegrates. The alternative is fascism. I don't know about you, but I believe America can be saved. I really do. I believe that the vote can save us.

So, Billy Bob, Karen and Pastor Johnbo, your days may come to an end if we are desperate, and angry enough. We will just have to see.

We need justice and peace.

So wrong on the facts.

I feel safe. Unless I go to one of the hell holes run by the left like NYC, Chicago, Philly or Portland, etc. One of those places presided over by Soros-puppet DA's like LA's George Gascon.

Oh, and unless I'm a child in the womb. NONE of them are safe unless they're in a stable, two-person household.

Ironically, every one of those kids who died yesterday would've been aborted if the left had their way. Every single one.

Welcome back to Gunsmoke!

Several top Texas Republicans shared their thoughts and prayers after a gunman opened fire inside an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, on Tuesday, 0killing at least 19 children and two teachers. But the GOP lawmakers refused to support the possibility of any gun control measures as the nation reels in the wake of the worst school shooting since the Sandy Hook massacre in 2012.

Instead, the elected officials called for more armed teachers and even fortified schools meant to keep bad actors away from children, saying laws to limit access to firearms don’t work.

“Inevitably when there’s a murder of this kind, you see politicians try to politicize it, you see Democrats and a lot of folks in the media whose immediate solution is to try to restrict the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R) told reporters as parents waited for news of their missing children and provided DNA swabs to police to help identify the young victims. “That doesn’t work. It’s not effective. It doesn’t prevent crime.”

Editorial: Abbott says 'never again' after Uvalde school massacre. Don’t fall for it, Texans.

The Editorial Board

Updated: May 24, 2022 9:37 p.m.

“Horrifically, incomprehensibly.”

That’s how Gov. Greg Abbott described the actions of a gunman who slaughtered at least 18 children and their teacher Tuesday at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde.

The first word is apt — especially for the moms and dads who dropped off their little ones at school Tuesday morning, maybe lingering a little bit in the car line, just to crane their necks back and watch as that precious little body, that floppy ponytail or that lanky little stringbean frame, laden with backpack and lunch box, made it safely through the schoolhouse door, where, it seemed, they would be safe.

Horrific was the moment they got the news. Horrific will be their nights of endless tears. Horrific will be the bright, sunny mornings when they remember it wasn’t a dream. The bed is empty, no little lump beneath the blankets, waiting to be awoken.

But the second word Abbott used — “incomprehensibly” — is just as much cowardice as it is a bald-faced lie.

Of course it’s impossible to fathom why someone would shoot up an elementary school, or any school, but it’s hardly incomprehensible that it happened. It keeps happening, in Texas and across the nation. No one, especially not the governor of a state with some of the most inept, irresponsible and dangerous gun laws in the nation, should be confused, somehow unable to comprehend, the reasons for this never-ending tragedy of mass shootings in our country.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Yes, there are people evil enough, or sick enough, to kill. Yes, they can try to perpetrate a massacre in search of revenge or some grotesque fantasy of fame.

But there is one weapon, readily available in Texas, that will ensure efficiency and exponentially increase the chances of tragic success: the gun.

Whether it’s a handgun, rifle or semi-automatic invented for war, the governor has supported and the Legislature has passed law after law that have obliterated any semblance of good sense regulation — laws so permissive that they’ve even defied the objections of police chiefs and gun safety instructors, including the 2021 permitless carry bill that the governor bragged on Twitter allows any eligible Texan to carry a gun in public with “no license or training” needed. As though that were progress.

Texas lawmakers won’t even pass universal background checks to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people even though about 80 percent of Texans support them.

And when mass shootings happened again in 2019 — first in El Paso and then in Odessa and Midland — Abbott still failed to act.

NRA-backed gun laws have failed to keep Texans, including our most precious and most vulnerable constituency — our children — safe. But they’ve thrilled the constituencies that truly matter in Republican primary politics: Second Amendment extremists and the gun lobby.

As we speak, the National Rifle Association is excitedly gearing up for its annual meeting in Houston this Friday, May 27-29, at the George R. Brown Convention Center. A website touts a showcase of “over 14 acres of the latest guns and gear,” and a “freedom-filled weekend for the entire family.” It notes: children get in free!

Precisely correct. Yet it's a response the left simply will not accept. Not when they can politicize it and fund raise off the corpses.

Will This Finally Be the Time Republicans Turn Against the NRA's Money?

The Hartmann Report
We’ve been at this point over and over again in America: will this be the one that punches through the wall of money the NRA and the weapons industry it fronts for wraps around Republicans?

President Biden is right. “For God’s Sake,” and our children’s sake, we must do something about gun violence in America. And we must do it now.

Back in 1996, after a few years of mass shootings, Australia experienced a mass slaughter on a scale like we saw yesterday in Texas. Their Supreme Court hadn’t ruled that Australian politicians could be owned by industries, so they passed extensive gun control and a nationwide gun buyback program. It was a turning point, and the mass shootings have since largely stopped.

Over at Daily Kos, Walter Einenkel has summarized how many millions of dollars the top Republicans in Congress have taken from the weapons industry: it’s a grim toll, starting with Mitt Romney taking over $13 million and Richard Burr over $6 million.

We’ve been at this point over and over again in America: will this be the one that punches through the wall of money the NRA and the weapons industry it fronts for wraps around Republicans?

Over on Fox News, one brilliant idea to deal with the slaughter of our children in our schools is to issue “Ballistic Blankets” to every school. This is how sick and twisted the Republicans taking money from the gun industry and their allies have become.

Twenty years ago, car accidents were the leading killer of children and youth: today it’s guns.

At the turn of the 21st century, there were about 14 car-crash deaths among young people (aged 1-24) per 100,000 young Americans, and only a bit over 7 gun deaths per 100,000. This year, almost 11 out of 100,000 children died from guns while only 8 per 100K died from car crashes.

And most all of those child gun deaths, mass shootings, and school shootings, which don’t happen in any other developed country in the world, are entirely preventable.

The GOP gifted gun manufacturers with near-absolute immunity against product liability lawsuits, so manufacturers have zero incentive to sell safer weapons or dial back their lobbying and marketing.

Their immunity from lawsuits is so extreme that the only way the parents of the kids murdered at Sandy Hook could hold Remington responsible was to instead go after their marketing: they had to point out how the company was “selling masculinity” to get guns into the hands of insecure boys.

The danger of an AR15 weapon-of-war in an elementary school couldn’t even be discussed.

America must “regulate” — a word found in the Second Amendment, it’s only appearance in the entire Constitution — guns.

A starting point is bringing back the assault weapons ban that Bill Clinton got passed in 1996 and George W. Bush let expire in 2006.

There are other commonsense solutions, like universal background checks, we could also put into law.

For example, back in the early years of the 20th century when cars had become so common they were regularly killing people in auto accidents, states hit on a simple formula to encourage safe driving and maintain clear lines of responsibility when things went wrong.

*Every car was required to be registered every year with the state; if it was found out in public without registration it could be confiscated.

*Every driver was required to prove knowledge of how to safely drive, with both a written and a real-life driving test.

*And every driver was required to carry liability insurance, so if there was an accident the victims were covered, regardless of who was at fault.

For about 100 years drivers have lived with these three simple requirements, and they’ve worked. The liability insurance is particularly effective: as a “free market solution,” insurance companies now compile information on drivers’ safety records, including their history of violence, and set their rates accordingly.

Think about it: if Adam Lanza had murdered those kids at Sandy Hook by mowing them down in the street with his mom’s SUV, their families would have gotten $1 million each from Geico (for example). But because he killed them with a gun, they got nothing; even survivors of mass shootings and “accidents” get nothing for medical bills.

The only city in America who’s taken a cue from that century of insurance experience is San Jose, California which in 2021 put a liability insurance requirement into place for all gun owners in the city.

If you’ve committed gun-related crimes or your guns have killed people in the past, the “free market” for insurance will make it very expensive to own a gun; if you’re a gun owner who keeps your weapons in a gun safe and uses trigger guards, your rates will be nominal.

One of the main reasons fewer children are dying in car accidents now than a decade or two ago is that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has been compiling statistics for decades and has repeatedly identified safety flaws in particular vehicles or the way they’re used.

Gun safety advocates have, for years, called for a federal agency to compile gun injury and death statistics, but a bought-off member of Congress, Arkansas Republican Jay Dickey, attached the notorious “Dickey Amendment” to a must-pass omnibus spending bill in 1996.

In response to a growing number of research papers in the 1980s and early 1990s calling gun deaths a national health crisis and demanding federally funded science on the issue, his NRA-sponsored amendment banned any federal dollars from being used to research gun injuries or deaths in the US.

As The New England Journal of Medicine noted:

“Although substantial federal funding has been devoted to research on motor vehicle crashes, the firearm industry and gun-rights organizations, led by the National Rifle Association (NRA), have been effective at keeping federal dollars from financing firearm-related research.”

Republicans in Congress continue to attach the Dickey Amendment to every major omnibus spending bill and refuse to vote for any that doesn’t contain it. If anybody is “grooming” children toward dangerous behavior, it’s Republicans proudly grooming their own kids to be future school shooters:

There’s also the problem of the simple proliferation of guns, and the fact that more and more of them are semi-automatic weapons of war rather than simple revolvers or sport-shooting guns and rifles.

In 2010, a bit fewer than 10 million guns were sold in the US. Just the one year of 2020 saw that number more than double to nearly 22 million guns sold in just a 12-month period; 2021 added another 19 million guns to America’s homes.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that the more guns there are — particularly lacking any incentives to secure them safely — the more gun deaths (accidental, homicide, suicide) there will be.

There are now more guns in America than there are people, a bizarre situation that no other developed country in the world experiences. Literally none.

The average of all countries in the world is 9.86 guns per 100 civilians. The United States is highest in the world at 120.5 guns per 100 people. Yemen, which is in the middle of a war with Saudi Arabia and dealing with an internal insurgency, comes in second at 52.8. No other nation is even close; even Afghanistan and Iraq average around 20 deadly weapons in the hands of every hundred people.

While President Biden has signed an executive order banning the scourge of untraceable “ghost guns” and put gun safety in his last State of the Union speech, there is so much more to do.

Earlier this year a group of young activists including mass shooting survivor and March For Our Lives leader David Hogg covered the front of Senator Chuck Schumer’s office with body bags because of his unwillingness to bring gun control legislation to the floor of the Senate during this election year.

Meanwhile, the NRA, still flush with an infusion of cash from Russia, has succeeded in lobbying 25 states to allow anybody to carry a concealed gun with no background checks, no training, and no permit, regardless of their criminal or violent history.

America is neither poor nor stupid. We figured out how cars were killing people and put an end to most avoidable automobile deaths using a combination of commonsense laws (like mandatory licensure and insurance) and safety measures (seatbelts, carseats, padded dashes, anti-lock brakes, etc.).

The problem is that the GOP, their newfound concern for “the children” notwithstanding, does everything they can to block any reasonable solutions to the problem of gun violence and deaths in America, particularly among our kids.

We have both the technology and the resources to stop mass shootings and deal with childhood injuries and deaths from the only product sold in America that is specifically designed to kill human beings.

We must vote out the Republicans taking money from and embracing this death-dealing industry so America can put these reasonable steps — that have worked so well in other development nations — into place here.

Dana Loesch has six questions that every politician should be asking in the wake of yesterday’s horrific massacre in Uvalde, Texas where 19 kids and two teachers were gunned down by an 18-year-old.

They are:

“1) How did this murderer get into the school?
2) What security did this school have and how can we protect schools like we protect our concerts, banks, museums?
3) WHERE WERE HIS PARENTS AND THE ADULTS IN HIS LIFE?
4) How did he buy a handgun?
5) Did he pass a background check?
6) No one in his house saw what was going on?”

Meanwhile, all the left is asking is -

"How can we politicize this to our political advantage?"

"How can we fundraise off this and how much $$$$$ can we raise?"

"How can we leverage this to disarm the law-abiding gun owners while enjoying our own armed protection?"

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

It didn't really happen.

All those parents claiming their kids were shot are paid actors, hired by leftists who are trying to take away our sacred right to own all the weapons we want of any kind without having to undergo any background checks.

The pederast "pastor" LIES again.

Texas State Sen. Roland Gutierrez told CNN that Ramos, who only turned 18 on May 16, purchased two assault rifles on his 18th birthday.

Texas Sen. John Whitmire later clarified that they were legally purchased on May 17 and May 20, and 375 rounds of ammunition were purchased on May 18. One rifle was in Ramos’ truck that crashed near the school, the other was with him.

Of those gun deaths... only about 0.6% of those are "mass shootings. As in about six tenths of one percent of gun deaths are from mass shooters.

Seems some people are picking and choosing what to get all riled up about based on something fairly subjective. There are no real good objective numbers that suggests this particular type of killing is worth all of the upheaval.

No, you cowardly asshole.

The point is, you clowns are at the point where have nothing left but to disarm the law-abiding. More laws you say? Like what? Background checks are already being performed. There is NO gun show loophole contrary to your leftist LIES.

You are literally faced with one remaining option - repeal the Second Amendment. You don't have the courage to pursue this option of course, but that is literally what you are left with.

So do it. DO IT. Take up the mantle of repealing 2A. Let's see you guys embark on that path and quit fucking around. An "assault weapons" ban you say? While it may look spooky to you sissies, I can assure you that my 5.56 is not an "assault weapon." My .270 and .280 on the other hand can defeat most any body amour issued to law enforcement and the military today. In terms of lethality, THOSE are what you need to worry about.

So quit jerking off and make a head-on run at the 2A, pederast. You know you want to. Stop being a sniveling coward.
