The Republican party is building a grassroots “army” to target and potentially overturn election results in Democratic precincts, the Politico website reported on Wednesday, citing video evidence.

The alleged scheme includes installing party-trained volunteers prepared to challenge voters at Democratic-majority polling places, creating a website to put these workers in touch with local lawyers and establishing a network of district attorneys who could intervene to block vote counts.

Many Republicans still believe Donald Trump’s lie that he lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden because of widespread voter fraud. At state level the party has passed laws that make it harder to vote while pro-Trump candidates are running for positions that would give them control over future elections.

Politico obtained a series of recordings of Republican meetings between the summer of 2021 and May this year.

It said one from November shows Matthew Seifried, the Republican National Committee’s (RNC) election integrity director for Michigan, urging party activists in Wayne county to obtain official designations as poll workers.

Seifried says: “Being a poll worker, you just have so many more rights and things you can do to stop something than [as] a poll challenger.”

Some of the would-be poll workers complain that fraud was committed in 2020 and that the election was “corrupt”.

At another training session last October, Seifried promises support for such workers: “It’s going to be an army. We’re going to have more lawyers than we’ve ever recruited, because let’s be honest, that’s where it’s going to be fought, right?”

Politico also obtained Zoom tafpings of Tim Griffin, legal counsel to the Amistad Project, a self-described election integrity group that Trump’s former lawyer Rudy Giuliani once portrayed as a “partner” in the Trump campaign’s legal efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

Griffin is seen meeting with activists from multiple states and discussing plans for identifying friendly district attorneys who could stage interventions in local election disputes.

He says during one meeting in September: “Remember, guys, we’re trying to build out a nationwide district attorney network. Your local district attorney, as we always say, is more powerful than your congressman.

“They’re the ones that can seat a grand jury. They’re the ones that can start an investigation, issue subpoenas, make sure that records are retained, etc.”

Politico added that installing party loyalists on the board of canvassers, which is responsible for certifying election results, also appears to be part of the Republican strategy.

Scott this is why I have been saying for years because he is the worst person to ever be The President

The RNC is going along with it

Key words: "alleged scheme."

If democrats behave and every recorded vote is a LEGAL vote then they have absolutely nothing to worry about.

Other than LOSING that is.

We on the right don't pull intimidation tactics like you guys do with the New Black Panthers manning entrances to polling stations with bats and clubs.

All of the fucking shenanigans the left pulled in 2020 are going to be guarded against and fucking STOPPED, long before anyone needs to even try to overturn any election results. Every fucking ballot and every fucking MOVE a democrat poll worker makes will be scrutinized. I've already been asked to be a poll worker in my polling place and I don't need the $$$, but I'm tempted to do it just to keep a sharp eye out for any bullshit.

The interesting thing Rat...

Is that if what the Republicans were doing was at all illegal or even unethical then Politico wouldn't be writing about it, they would be notifying law enforcement.

But law enforcement cannot investigate people for trying to win elections or by trying to enforce election laws. What this "army" of people is doing is 100% legal, ethical, and probably a pretty good thing.

The meltdown over certain counties no longer being in charge of their own counting in Georgia is a perfect example. There was nothing illegal about the laws passed, but there was stuff illegal going on in certain counties. They just don't like being called on this crap.

Well everyone should be happy about it Roger!

If no laws are being broken and there is no fraud (as you continue to claim) then these armies are just a big waste of time, huh?

But if laws are being broken and fraud is happening... then we should "all" want to catch it, right?

I mean... if there "is" fraud Roger?

I'm sure they do alky, but to me that's in the past. Trump's out, and your fucking, drooling, fucking "everything he touches turns to shit" fucking imbecile is IN.

What matters is what happens going forward.

As CH said, enforcing elections law is LEGAL. So guess what happens when you scare the folks via the guardian or politico? YOU clowns disenfranchise your own voters. You intimidate them into staying fucking HOME. The very people you desperately need to win don't show up out of FEAR. When all the GOP wants is to ensure the integrity of our elections. Something we should ALL want. But your side doesn't.

And my question is WHY?

Why, alky? WHY?

We know why.

You just won't admit it.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

And you believe it

The revelations are sure to intensify concerns about fresh assaults on American democracy in 2022 and 2024.

Nick Penniman, founder and chief executive of Issue One, an election watchdog group, told Politico: “This is completely unprecedented in the history of American elections – that a political party would be working at this granular level to put a network together. It looks like now the Trump forces are going directly after the legal system itself, and that should concern everyone.”

The RNC insisted that it is simply trying to restore balance to election oversight in heavily Democratic cities such as Detroit. Gates McGavick, an RNC spokesperson, was quoted as saying: “Democrats have had a monopoly on poll watching for 40 years, and it speaks volumes that they’re terrified of an even playing field.

“The RNC is focused on training volunteers to take part in the election process because polling shows that American voters want bipartisan poll-watching to ensure transparency and security at the ballot box.”

The bottom line for the modern Republican Party, however, is not election integrity, but their candidates winning. Trump on Tuesday pushed an article alleging Brian Kemp’s 50-point primary win in Georgia was fraudulent, while refraining to cast doubt Herschel Walker’s win in the same state by a similar margin. Democrats want their candidates to win, too, and have certainly mobilized activists to help the cause in various ways, including by observing elections, but the year and change since the 2020 election has proved that for the Republican Party, the democratic process is more of an inconvenience to be subverted than anything to be held sacred. There’s plenty of reporting to suggest the GOP has been working hard to tip the scales ahead of the midterms and beyond.

I agree...

It's why you need to make sure that the partisan Democratic loyalists who run these big counties have oversight.

We all watched the videos of what took place. Counting with nobody around. Taking votes into rooms, locking the doors and blocking windows so nobody could see what they were doing.

Funny Roger...

Why is it that a large GOP county run by GOP officials can count the same number of votes in like a quarter of the time, but these Democratic counties are all still counting, finding votes, etc... days if not weeks later?

It's simple Roger...

The law in pretty much every state requires EVERY COUNTY to allow poll watchers. The fact that these poll watchers have been sent away, been told they have to stay behind lines where they cannot watch, or literally being locked out....

Is illegal.

Why do you support illegal activity Roger?

Wouldn't you want a team of attorneys there to make sure that stuff doesn't happen?

The RNC staffer in Michigan that Przybyla is referring to is Matthew Seifried. In a recording of a training session held on October 5, 2021, Seifried told his colleagues, “Being a poll worker, you just have so many more rights and things you can do to stop something than (as) a poll challenger…. It’s going to be an army. We’re going to have more lawyers than we’ve ever recruited, because let’s be honest, that’s where it’s going to be fought, right?”

Seifried, according to Przybyla, “also said the RNC will hold ‘workshops’ and equip poll workers with a hotline and website developed by Zendesk, a software support company used by online retailers, which will allow them to live-chat with party attorneys on Election Day.”

They will prevent Democrats to vote on their own!

Since the 2020 election, most of the coverage of the GOP push for the power to question and even overturn future elections has focused on positions at the highest levels of government. And for good reason. Donald Trump has made a concerted effort to install loyalists and election deniers as secretaries of state and in other high-ranking positions with election responsibilities in key states. And the overall tenor of such GOP primaries nationwide has trended decidedly toward Trump’s baseless allegations of a “stolen election” — despite the lessons of Jan. 6, 2021. When people who say they wouldn’t have certified President Biden’s 2020 win might be in a position to stop that come 2024, that matters a lot.

But it’s worth emphasizing and reemphasizing just how much these battles could truly be forged at the lowest levels of government — involving people and positions you’ve probably never heard of. These are the positions Republicans have long proved superior at mobilizing their side to focus on. And a new Politico report reinforces how an effort to sway future elections could spring from those positions.

When will we face the fact that this is a country baked in its own violence, much of it racist in intent and effect? As Carol Anderson has shown, guns and violence were integral to controlling, patrolling and terrorizing the enslaved Black people of this country. Likewise, there would be no broken treaties, forced removals and land theft of Indigenous territory without guns, and we should see how our laws are based on that fact. “The violent appropriation of Native land by white settlers was seen as an individual right in the Second Amendment of the US Constitution,” Roxane Dunbar-Ortiz writes, “second only to freedom of speech.”

Every day, America’s obsession with guns and violence terrifies its citizens, but it also reflects its own genocidal and racist past. In fact, American violence has its roots in its own settler-colonial origins. When you moved to a colony as a settler, Hannah Arendt observed long ago, you freed yourself from the morality of your home country and acted any way you wished, as long as you had your carbine by your side. Colonizers were “functionaries of violence”, Arendt explains, able to define themselves both by their opposition to their home country and by their brutal subjugation of the natives around them. This particular kind of colonial arrogance sounds familiar. In American mythology, we call it rugged individualism.

Many Republicans do indeed take a lot of money from the NRA and the rest of the gun lobby, and they should be publicly shamed for the ways they have enabled these killers to get their weapons. But let’s also admit that it’s easier and more politically expedient for Democrats to blame Republicans on this issue rather than reckon with our historic national dependence on violence to define us a people. Guns may be the tools, but they are not the core of the violence. If we were to be honest with ourselves, we would see that this dark heart of violence is not simply a partisan issue but is a much longer and more intimate part of our own national tragedy.

This is the behavior that the alky wants more of. EVERYWHERE.:

PHOENIX (AP) — An Arizona woman indicted in 2020 on accusations of illegally collecting ballots apparently ran a sophisticated operation using her status as a well-known Democratic operative in the border city of San Luis to persuade voters to let her gather and in some cases fill out their ballots, according to records obtained by The Associated Press.

Guillermina Fuentes, 66, and a second woman were indicted in December 2020 on one count of ballot abuse, a practice commonly known as “ballot harvesting” that was made illegal under a 2016 state law. Additional charges of conspiracy, forgery and an additional ballot abuse charge were added last October.

...

Investigators said it appears she used her position as a powerful figure in the heavily Mexican American community to get people to give her or others their ballots to return to the polls.

The alleged illegal ballot collection by Fuentes and her co-defendant happened in plain sight outside a cultural center in San Luis on the day of the primary election, the reports show. Fuentes was at a card table set up by supporters of a slate of city council candidates and was spotted with several mail-ballot envelopes, pulling out the ballots and in some cases marking them.

The ballots were then taken inside the cultural center and deposited in a ballot box.

Help! The (Pretend) President's Fallen and Can't Get Up!

By J.B. Shurk

In as sure a sign of a disloyal White House staff as any, reports have leaked that Joe Biden is "rattled" by cratering public approval polls and is desperately "pressing aides for a more compelling message."  (Remember, folks: only the fairytale "narrative" matters, not Biden's real-world dumpster fire of a presidency.)  High-level staff have been leaving the White House in droves.  Biden's chief of staff, Ron Klain, is reportedly planning to skedaddle soon after the midterms.  A massive exodus of black staffers is undermining morale.  Old Joe is so "frustrated" with his advisers' regular "clean-up campaign" of his public comments that he has begun reprimanding them that it is he who is president.  Meanwhile, his handlers' never-ending efforts to save their boss from his impaired brain and loose lips have given the White House's propaganda machine the appearance of a veritable "clown show."

I've been waiting for this freak-out — the moment when either a temporarily lucid Joe or his nurse-wife Jill finally comes to the realization that this administration is on a path to being remembered as the most incompetent, corrupt, or evil (or maybe all three) in American history.  At some point, the Bidens' wounded pride was bound to clash with Barack Obama's maneuverings to use "ah shucks" Joe as a stalking horse for "fundamentally transforming" America into a Marxist theocracy.  (When the priests of political correctness force people to betray their consciences in order to comply with the State's dogma, then you're living in a theocratic dictatorship.)

A lot of very smart, savvy people have pointed out that this has never actually been Dementia Joe's presidency.  In exchange for giving him a spot to nap behind the Resolute Desk, Biden handed his administration over to the likes of Susan Rice, Elizabeth Warren, Jim Clyburn, and many of Obama's other communist comrades in arms eager to usher in their precious New World Order, where the few will rule and the many will obey.  Astutely, the Marxist-socialists knew that the only way to implement their brand of totalitarianism was to put a decrepit Establishment figurehead in office to provide the appearance that the Old Guard had things under control, while the New Guard began their crackdown on free speech, freedom of movement, private property, digital privacy, self-defense, and just about anything else strictly protected from government tyranny by the Bill of Rights.

There’s no sign she or anyone else in Yuma County collected ballots in the general election, but investigators from the attorney general’s office are still active in Yuma County.

The Arizona Republic reported Tuesday that search warrants were served last month at a nonprofit in San Luis. The group’s executive director is chair of the Yuma County board of supervisors and said the warrant sought the cell phone of a San Luis councilwoman who may have been involved in illegal ballot collection.

And at a legislative hearing Tuesday where election conspiracy theorists testified, the Yuma primary election case was again a highlight.

“It’s all about corruption in San Luis and skewing a city council election,” Yuma Republican Rep. Tim Dunn said. “This has been going on for a long time, that you can’t have free and fair elections in south county, for decades. And its spreading across the country.”

Ballot abuse is a felony that carries a possible sentence of up to two years in prison and a $150,000 fine.

The ballots were then taken inside the cultural center and deposited in a ballot box.

It was videotaped by a write-in candidate who called the Yuma County sheriff. An investigation was launched that day, and about 50 ballots checked for fingerprints, which were inconclusive. The investigation was taken over by the attorney general's office within days, with investigators collaborating with the sheriff's deputies to interview voters and others, including Fuentes.

Although Fuentes is charged only with actions that appear on the videotape and involve just a handful of ballots, investigators believe the effort went much farther.

Attorney general's office investigator William Kluth wrote in one report that there was some evidence suggesting Fuentes actively canvassed San Luis neighborhoods and collected ballots, in some cases paying for them.

We could go on and on. But clearly, it’s the man himself who is not up to the job. His news conferences are usually at best embarrassing, at worst, huge exercises in futility or mispronounced policy statements that leave everybody wondering just who is in charge of this madhouse. He demonizes his opponents as racists, white supremacists and terrorists and blows a gasket any time he is questioned – looking like the angry old man that he is.

It’s not just that Biden is destroying the American economy, he is destroying America. He is actively engaged in a culture war to change America into an empty husk, waiting to become the vassal of foreign powers. He is obsessed with race, gender identity and ensuring that biological males compete with women in sports. America becomes weaker every day that he remains in power and it’s like he’s sold his soul to the people who had this planned all along. The sad thing is that Joe Biden would once have refused to go along with this kind of deal but is now either too incompetent, too naive, too wasted or too tired to care.

Is Joe Biden the worst president in history? He is less than two years into his term and the evidence is overwhelming that he is.

Will Joe Biden destroy America beyond rehabilitation? It won’t be for lack of trying, but the answer is no. The American people have experienced hardship, deprivation and tragedy before: they can do it again despite the mad attempts of an increasingly marginalized president.

You see, America is not great because of its government. It is great because of its people. And good people will always outweigh bad government and an even worse president.

WASHINGTON—More than two-thirds of Americans want to uphold Roe v. Wade, and most favor women having access to legal abortion for any reason, according to a new Wall Street Journal poll that shows a four-decade evolution in the country’s viewpoints regarding the procedure.

The findings are from a Journal poll conducted with NORC at the University of Chicago, a nonpartisan research organization that measures social attitudes. The poll was taken after the leak of a draft opinion that suggests the Supreme Court might be preparing to overturn the 1973 decision that established the constitutional right to an abortion.

In the survey, 68% of respondents said they wouldn’t like to see the court completely overturn Roe, while 30% said they support that move.

On January 2, 2021 — only four days before the January 6 insurrection — Trump infamously demanded that Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger “find” him enough votes for him to win the Peach State. But it was Biden, not Trump, who legitimately won Georgia in 2020, and Raffensperger, a conservative Republican, refused to go along with Trump — which is why Trump hates him so vehemently.

Levin notes what former federal prosecutor Joyce White Vance, who is often featured as a legal analyst on MSNBC, has had to say about Willis’ investigation. Vance recently told MSNBC’s Katie Phang that Willis needs “proof of the former president’s state of mind,” stressing that Trump was asking Raffensperger to “find him the specific number of votes that he needs” — not urging Raffensperger to conduct a fact-finding investigation, but to find him a “specific” number of votes.

Trump’s exact words to Raffensperger were, “I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have, because we won the state.” And that demand, Vance told Phang, is “pretty good evidence of criminal intent walking into it.”

“Donald Trump has a long, robust history of getting away with every shady, underhanded, wildly unethical, likely criminal thing he’s ever done in his life,” Levin observes. “Whether it’s stiffing contractors he owes money to, paying a porn star to keep quiet about their alleged affair, or inciting a violent riot in a botched attempt to overturn the results of an election he lost, the comeuppance that would befall other people never seems to come for the ex-president. But according to (Vance), the guy’s luck may be running out thanks to the state of Georgia.”

Last week, during an investor conference for his bank, Dimon referred to his economic concerns as “storm clouds” that could dissipate. Presentations from Dimon and his deputies at the all-day meeting have bolstered JPMorgan shares by giving greater detail on investments and updated figures on interest revenue.

But his concerns seem to have deepened since then.

During the response to the 2008 financial crisis, central banks, commercial banks and foreign exchange trading firms were the three major buyers of U.S. Treasurys, Dimon said Wednesday. The players won’t have the capacity or desire to soak up as many U.S. bonds this time, he warned.

“Donald Trump has a long, robust history of getting away with every shady, underhanded, wildly unethical, likely criminal thing he’s ever done in his life,” Levin observes.

Yeah. Lord knows someone should've been able to nail him on at least one of those "likely criminal things he’s ever done in his life."

Sussman walked on a "definite criminal thing." But the alky and the rest of the left remains laser-focused on Trump.

And here's why:

Mamet makes a rather fascinating claim that the leader of the Left is none other than Donald Trump. Does this sound nuts? Upon closer inspection, it makes perfect sense. Mamet writes that “For the last six years the Left has had a leader, his supposed omnipotence equal to that of Hitler, Mao, Castro, and Stalin, one to whom all attention must be paid.” This is Trump, because the Left “couldn’t find anyone on the bench to send in, so they chose the rival team’s most powerful player and instructed the faithful that it was opposite day.”

The American political and cultural scene usually functions on this level: the Left acts (always in the state of change, disruption, and revolution) and the Right reacts (always ready to mount a defense of the order of things). But Trump did something quite different and brilliant. He disregarded the Left’s ramblings and forced them to play by his rules. This is why there is such a thing as the “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” and despite the fact that Trump is not in office, “TDS” still continues in some form or the other.

OPEC Agrees to Increase Oil Production
June 2, 2022 at 9:53 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 1 Comment

“OPEC and its allies agreed Thursday to a bigger-than-expected oil-production increase of 648,000 barrels a day in July and August, OPEC delegates said, allowing Saudi Arabia to potentially pump more crude and paving the way for a potential deal with the U.S.,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“The move would represent a significant shift for the Saudis, who have resisted calls from the U.S., U.K. and other Western countries to pump more oil to help reduce a price boom resulting from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The discussions come after a flurry of diplomacy between Washington and Riyadh, with senior U.S. officials traveling to Saudi Arabia in recent weeks to broker a deal.”

A new Wall Street Journal-NORC poll finds that 68% of Americans want the Supreme Court to uphold Roe v. Wade, and 58% favor women having access to legal abortion for any reason —
the highest it’s been since the question was first asked in 1977.

Meanwhile, a new Gallup poll finds that after a decade in which Americans’ identification as “pro-choice” varied narrowly between 45% and 50%,
the percentage has jumped six points to 55% in the latest poll.

We might get some reasonable legislation.

ASSOCIATED PRESS
WASHINGTON (AP) — The House is beginning to put its stamp on gun legislation in response to mass shootings in Texas and New York by 18-year-old assailants who used semi-automatic rifles to kill 31 people, including 19 children.

The House Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing Thursday to advance legislation that would raise the age limit for purchasing certain semi-automatic rifles from 18 to 21. The bill would make it a federal offense to import, manufacture or possess large-capacity magazines and would create a grant program to buy back such magazines. It also builds on the executive branch’s ban on bump-stock devices and so-called ghost guns that are privately made without serial numbers.

The Democratic legislation, called the Protecting Our Kids Act, was quickly added to the legislative docket after last week's school shooting in Uvalde, Texas. A vote by the full House could come as early as next week.

With Republicans nearly in lockstep in their opposition, the House action will mostly be symbolic, serving to put lawmakers on record about gun control ahead of this year's elections. The Senate is taking a different course, with a bipartisan group striving toward a compromise on gun safety legislation that can win enough GOP support to become law. Those talks are making “rapid progress,” according to Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, one of the Republican negotiators.

LETTER TO EDITOR just submitted:

We in America are now in grave danger of losing our democracy, for there are those who want to end government “of the people, by the people, and for the people,” only to replace it with government of the wealthy, by the wealthy, and – exclusively – for the wealthy.

The legitimacy of our constitutional republic depends on the choices the American people make. “In our land, voters choose their leaders. In dictatorships, the leaders make that choice.”

That is the major difference between American democracy on the one hand, and the sort of autocractic, kleptocratic dictatorship that is now being favored by far too many on the political right.

Right wing extremists have been moving in that direction now for years, and have been getting quite good at misleading many of our people into thinking they are for the middle class and the public good, when actually they are interested only in solidifying the lucrative financial support they can get by satisfying the self-serving political greed of the ultra wealthy.

Donald Trump was so determined to hold on to office and stay in power that he attempted to overthrow the legitimate choice of our nation’s voters, and in seeking to do that, he criminally tried to exalt himself above the law and the Constitution.

Attorney General Merrick Garland, although under intense pressure to act, has steadfastly resisted being stampeded into prosecuting Trump. In his commitment to thoroughness, Garland has been carefully gathering evidence – evidence he promises he will scrupulously follow wherever it may lead as he strictly applies it to the law without fear or favor.

Soon we will be seeing the results of Garland’s investigations. We had better pay attention, for this could be our last chance to save American democracy.

Stupid on stilts.

So companies should simply accept and absorb lower profits? Kind of like they need to absorb an increase of corporate taxes rather than passing that along to the consumer in the form of higher prices?

This is so fucking stupid it's something that only Elizabeth Warren or a piss-drunk alcoholic could believe.

Alky, we're already convinced of your galactic economic stupidity. You don't need to convince us anymore.

Ford will also add workers to increase production of Ford Transit commercial vans and Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickups

Corporate profits have contributed disproportionately to inflation. How should policymakers respond?

The inflation spike of 2021 and 2022 has presented real policy challenges. In order to better understand this policy debate, it is imperative to look at prices and how they are being affected.

The price of just about everything in the U.S. economy can be broken down into the three main components of cost. These include labor costs, nonlabor inputs, and the “mark-up” of profits over the first two components. Good data on these separate cost components exist for the nonfinancial corporate (NFC) sector—those companies that produce goods and services—of the economy, which makes up roughly 75% of the entire private sector.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The historically high profit margins in the economic recovery from the pandemic sit very uneasily with explanations of recent inflation based purely on macroeconomic overheating. Evidence from the past 40 years suggests strongly that profit margins should shrink and the share of corporate sector income going to labor compensation (or the labor share of income) should rise as unemployment falls and the economy heats up. The fact that the exact opposite pattern has happened so far in the recovery should cast much doubt on inflation expectations rooted simply in claims of macroeconomic overheating.Do fatter profit margins imply more corporate power—or just power channeled differently?

The rise in profit margins that account for a disproportionate share of price growth in the current recovery have led to speculation that increased corporate power has been a key driver of recent inflation.
