- Several thousand civilians have been killed
- Several thousand more have been injured
- over 15 million citizens have been displaced
- over 6 million are refugees in other countries
- over 600 billion in infrastructure damages
- as many as 100 Ukrainian soldiers dying each day
While most everyone suspects that the Russians have lost as many as 15,000 troops, the Ukrainian troop casualties have all but been ignored. But when the President himself confirms that he believes as many as 100 are dying each day, that relates to as many as 10,000 Ukrainian troops when you consider we are nearly a hundred days into this.
Since the Russians have consolidated their attacks more to the east and south the amount of citizens being displaced has lowered. But as the Russians are "finishing" off these cities and towns under their control the death toll for both civilians and soldiers are still growing.
To say that this has now become a war of attrition might be a very accurate description. I still recall the popular belief was that Russia only was prepared for a six day campaign, and that if the Ukrainians could just hold them off for a week that their entire army would collapse. We are now nearly 100 days into this and the Russians are still there and digging in.
Unfortunately neither side appears willing to compromise. I doubt Putin is going to give up much of the land that is currently under Russian control, and Zelensky has suggested that he is unwilling to give up any territory (and may ask for Crimea back). So both sides are holding positions that appear to be completely.
