Yellen downplays the chances of a recession?

I wonder if this person believes this or is being ordered to say this for political reasons?

So the top economic official for the Biden Administration is not on record as being 180 degrees separated from the conventional wisdom of pretty much all of our blue chip economic experts. Everyone (except the Biden White House) is expecting a recession.

Technically we already had a quarter of negative GDP and the GDP Now projections from the Federal Reserve of Atlanta (a pretty accurate projection) shows the second quarter sitting a 0.00% gain. So depending on how our economic data goes over the next week or so, we could already be in a recession.

The picture is bigger than you said.

A federal gas tax holiday to ameliorate the burden of soaring gas prices across the nation is an idea "certainly worth considering," Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen told ABC's "This Week" on Sunday.

Driving the news: The national average price for regular gasoline spiked to a never-before-seen $5 per gallon this month as the country grapples with decades-high inflation.

What they're saying: Asked by host George Stephanopoulos whether a gas tax holiday was a possible short-term solution, Yellen replied, "President Biden wants to do anything he possibly can to help consumers. Gas prices have risen a great deal and it's clearly burdening households."

"So he stands ready to work with Congress and that's an idea that certainly worth considering," she added.Yellen called the current rate of inflation "unacceptably high" but echoed Biden's assessment of a potential recession by saying "I don't think a recession is inevitable."

Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm told CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday that a gas tax pause is an option the Biden administration is considering to bring down prices.

____

If gas taxes are decreased by the President inflation rates may decrease and the chances of a low level recession will decrease.

NEW YORK (AP) — By the numbers, the Jan. 6 committee hearings attracted 20 million live viewers on opening night, 11 million for the first daytime session and nearly 9 million for Thursday’s third installment.

Yet those traditional Nielsen company yardsticks don’t begin to measure the true reach of what is being said there.

Memorable moments from each hearing are sliced for quick consumption on countless news programs, comedy shows and online, to the point where some have been seen more times later than when they were live.

In many respects, it’s the first congressional hearing in memory that seems specifically designed with modern media needs in mind, said Jeff Jarvis, a City University of New York journalism professor and frequent blogger on the media.

“That has already worked,” he said.

While it’s impossible to know what — if anything — covered in the initial stages of the hearing will stick much beyond the week’s news, there are already breakout moments and characters.

The Republican Party of Texas voted for a resolution that would appear to rock the foundations of judicial review in the United States. Along the way, the Texas GOP rejects the legitimacy of Joe Biden’s presidency, describes homosexuality as an “abnormal lifestyle choice,” and urges the legislature to push a referendum on whether the Lone Star State should secede from the union.

That only scratches the surface on the radical proposals on the 273-point platform urges the abolition of several government agencies, withdrawal of the United States from the United Nations and the prosecution of physicians who perform “non-elective abortions” with homicide.

Overshadowed by numerous other proposals seemingly putting the state party in the firm embrace of the far-right, the Texas GOP appears to call for dismantling the 1803 Supreme Court precedent Marbury v. Madison.
The Supreme Court could no longer declare any state law is unconstitutional.

“Judges don’t define the roles of judges; Article 3, Section 2, defines the roles of judges,” the document states. “We support Congress’s limiting the power of the Supreme Court by invoking Article 3, Section 2, Clause 2, by ‘legislating exceptions and creating regulations’ to limit the cases for which the Supreme Court has jurisdiction.”

Highlighting the first clause, The Economist’s Supreme Court correspondent Steven Mazie identified the language as a clear rejection of more than two centuries of precedent establishing the concept of judiciary review in the United States.
I told you about how fucking crazy it is!

Meanwhile, the party adopted a resolution that declared the 2020 election violated the U.S. Constitution and that “substantial election fraud in key metropolitan areas significantly affected the results.”

“We reject the certified results of the 2020 Presidential election, and we hold that acting President Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. was not legitimately elected by the people of the United States,” the resolution continued.

The move came days after the House committee investigating the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 outlined evidence showing that top campaign aides to Donald Trump and other members of his inner circle repeatedly told the former president that claims of fraud were false. But the Texas resolution shows how thoroughly Trump’s obsession with the election has become ingrained as a core belief for his party.

Implicitly calling to topple that pillar of constitutional checks and balances, the Texas GOP likewise rejects the findings of more than 60 state and federal courts across the United States about the 2020 election.

Implicitly calling to topple that pillar of constitutional checks and balances, the Texas GOP likewise rejects the findings of more than 60 state and federal courts across the United States about the 2020 election.

This is a lie.

60 courts across the land found nothing because they failed to even hear the case. Because those brining the case and the case itself "lacked standing." The standard legal 'cowards' way out.

There's no "finding" in a case you refuse to even hear.

What you should be doing is asking yourself why this particular faction in Texas WANTS to secede. You clowns have managed to fuck things up six ways from Sunday. Every single thing this administration has touched they have made WORSE by several orders of magnitude.

So rather than mocking them with your feigned outrage, understand just how bad you've made it that drives them to this point.

And repeal Marbury v Madison

C.H. Truth said...

And actually Rat...

The truth is even more complicated than that. Trump and his legal challenges actually won several cases on points that did not have the ability to "overturn" the previous election.

For instance the Wisconsin courts have determined that several executive orders that used Covid as an excuse to bypass election laws were unconstitutional and that even the drop boxes were unconstitutional.

But since none of those legal victories got Trump any closer to "winning" the left will argue that any claims of fraud or problems with the 2020 election are "false".

The biggest problem is timing. There is no time between the election and safe harbor dates to actually have a full fledged civil trial on many of these things. They are (for all practical purposes) required to come to trial with "proof" rather than the normal probable cause that would allow them to garner some sort of discovery.

If you cannot request the information you would need to possibly prove your fraud, then that is a difficult case to win... doesn't mean that there was no fraud, just that there was no way to prove it within a few weeks.

The hearings are changing minds now.

What Americans have taken away from the recent public discussion about the riot spurred by the committee’s work, it seems, is that Trump should face criminal charges for his role in spurring it.

There have been several polls conducted since the riot that have measured the extent to which Americans think Trump should face this very specific form of accountability. In the most recent, ABC News and Ipsos found that nearly 3 in 5 Americans think Trump should face criminal charges. That follows a poll conducted at the end of April by The Washington Post and ABC News that put the figure at just over half, which is about where things stood shortly after the riot, too.

While Democrats have consistently thought Trump should face criminal charges, only about 1 in 10 Republicans did in that April poll. In the new ABC-Ipsos poll, that jumped to nearly 1 in 5. Margins of error are important here; the shift may be more modest than the top-line numbers make it seem. But there’s little question that most Americans think Trump should face criminal charges.

"nearly 3 in 5" is how they describe 58%

"just over half" is how they describe 54%

This literally could be a margin of error difference.

D'Souza's Mules Left Tracks

Many conservative commentators have noted that Dinesh D'Souza's documentary, 2000 Mules, offers compelling evidence of large-scale vote fraud. It offers more than this, though. It provides compelling evidence of a massive, centrally coordinated conspiracy to commit vote fraud. Examining several states with different voter laws while focusing on just one form of fraud, the movie found that the method of fraud was executed identically in each of these states. That is prima facie evidence of central organization and management.

From the moment counting was stopped in the dead of night in five Democrat-run swing states on election night, Democrats and the media have treated anyone who questioned election integrity in 2020 like a mob boss treats anyone who threatens to testify against him: shut up, or we will cancel you.

Democrats and the media routinely smear anyone who questions the election results as a conspiracy theorist. They routinely pronounce any evidence that emerges as "debunked." For the record, "debunked" does not mean "inconvenient to the leftist narrative." It means "thoroughly investigated and proven to be false." Almost none of the evidence has been debunked; very little has been officially examined.
Leftists treat actual evidence like how a vampire treats a crucifix. There is no reasoned discourse, just a lot of hissing and snarling.

From well before he took office, Donald Trump faced an ongoing administrative coup attempt. First was the long-running Russian collusion hoax, mounted by Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee and abetted by the FBI and intelligence agencies. Federal employees who were, theoretically, subordinate to Trump gleefully worked to undermine his administration. Two baseless impeachments were mounted against him by Democrats who know nothing other than shrieking partisanship anymore. The slow-moving coup finally succeeded on the evening of November 3, 2020, when those five states quit counting ballots to give Democrats time to "fortify" the election. The last real hurdle to thwarting election integrity came on December 11, 2020, when the Supreme Court ruled that Texas and 18 other states lacked standing to complain of massive fraud. How states that conduct honest elections lack standing to complain of states that don't in an election that affects them all is beyond my understanding. It looked like unconditional institutional surrender to massive fraud to me. All hail the barbarians!

roger backs Cotton as the 2024 presidential nominee

Maybe because of this:

EXCLUSIVE: Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Arkansas, said Thursday that U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland should resign over the Biden administration Justice Department’s inaction on more than 50 attacks on pro-life pregnancy centers and churches in recent weeks purportedly carried out by Jane’s Revenge.

In a letter sent to Garland, Cotton, who is the ranking member for the subcommittee on Criminal Justice and Counterterrorism, the Intelligence Committee, and the Armed Services Committee, also called on the DOJ to investigate Jane’s Revenge as a "domestic terrorist organization."

"Houses of worship and pro-life pregnancy centers are under attack. The Family Research Council has compiled a list of more than 50 attacks against churches, pro-life pregnancy centers, and other pro-life groups in the past few weeks," Cotton wrote to Garland in a letter exclusively obtained by Fox News Digital. "A left-wing extremist group called ‘Jane's Revenge’ has taken credit for many of these attacks, including firebombings and grotesque acts of vandalism."

Cotton noted how the same group on Tuesday "has now issued a letter declaring ‘open season’ on all so-called ‘anti-choice’ groups, and calls for terrorist attacks against these groups by anyone ‘with the urge to paint, to burn, to cut, [or] to jam."

The senator included a list of more than a dozen attacks that Jane’s Revenge has claimed responsibility for in recent weeks following the leak of a Supreme Court draft opinion in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization that if published, would overturn Roe v. Wade. Given many of these attacks did not result in any arrests, Cotton said the DOJ should bring federal charges against the perpetrators.

"What is the Department of Justice doing to protect Americans from these violent attacks? At a minimum, you should bring federal charges3 against the perpetrators, where appropriate, and investigate ‘Jane's Revenge’ as a domestic terrorist organization, Cotton wrote.

"If you are unwilling to protect Americans from these attacks, you should resign-although, in my opinion, you should resign in any case," he added.
