You don't pull on Superman's cape, you don't spit into the wind, you don't pull the mask off that old lone ranger.... and you don't mess around with Trump;

Britt Wins After ‘MAGA Mo’ Feuds With Trump
Getting into a messy, months-long public spat with former President Trump, it turns out, isn’t a winning strategy in the Republican stronghold of Alabama. Rep. Mo Brooks, a conservative Republican whom Trump endorsed, then unendorsed last year, had been griping for days over Trump’s decision to endorse Katie Britt, his GOP rival for the Senate seat left open by six-term Sen. Richard Shelby’s retirement.
Meanwhile, Britt, a former top Shelby aide, kept her eye on the prize and her talking points trained on substance, including hitting the Biden administration on inflation, illegal immigration, and what she calls “the biggest geopolitical threat” to the U.S.: China.
On Tuesday night, Britt, 40, triumphed to win the GOP nomination by more than 30 percentage points, ending Brooks’ 11-year Washington tenure. Britt’s lopsided win in deep-red Alabama all but assures a victory in November’s general election, positioning her to become Alabama’s youngest-ever U.S. senator – and the first woman senator representing the state of Alabama. Her Democratic opponent is pastor Will Boyd, a perennial candidate who has made unsuccessful bids for Senate, House, and lieutenant governor.

I would like to give deeper analysis on this race, but I am distracted by the fact that Britt looks almost exactly like an older version of an college girlfriend I had. Either way, the concept is if you are in a state like Alabama, you better love the Tide, talk the talk, and get Trump's backing. Or you will likely lose!

Plus even better news.

Enough Republicans have grown up!
WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate bargainers reached agreement Tuesday on a bipartisan gun violence bill, potentially teeing up final passage by week’s end on an incremental but landmark package that would stand as Congress’ response to mass shootings in Texas and New York that shook the nation.

Lawmakers released the 80-page bill nine days after agreeing to a framework for the plan and 29 years after Congress last enacted major firearms curbs. It cleared an initial procedural hurdle by 64-34, with 14 Republicans joining all 48 Democrats and two allied independents in voting yes. That strongly supported a prediction by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., of approval later this week. Passage by the Democratic-led House could follow quickly.

Though Republicans blocked tougher restrictions sought by Democrats, the accord marks an election-year breakthrough on an issue that pits the GOP’s staunch gun-owning and rural voters against Democrats’ urban-centered backers of firearms curbs. That makes it one of the most incendiary culture war battlefields in politics and a sensitive vote for some lawmakers, particularly Republicans who might alienate Second Amendment stalwarts. Trump is against it

Kasich says 'even clowns were embarrassed' by Texas GOP convention that included declaration that Biden 'was not legitimately elected' and called homosexuality an 'abnormal lifestyle choice'

John Kasich criticized the Texas GOP after they passed a series of extreme resolutions at their state convention.

They said Biden "was not legitimately elected" and that homosexuality "is an abnormal lifestyle choice."

"Even clowns were embarrassed by what they saw down there," said the 2016 GOP presidential candidate.

Former Republican Ohio Gov. John Kasich had harsh words for members of his own party when asked about the Texas GOP's state convention on Monday.

"What happened in Texas was a clown show," said Kasich on CNN. "I think even clowns were embarrassed by what they saw down there.

Georgia is a unique situation, Roger...

and is not near as red as Alabama!

But to the main point, Georgia has an open primary and from what everyone is suggesting, this includes a whole shitload of Democrats crossing over to vote against the "pro-Trump" candidates in these races.... since they do not have much of a primary issue there.

Or you can choose to believe that there is going to be a 70% increase in GOP voter turnout in November, making it likely that Walker wins by 20 points or more. But I am guessing that some of that 70% is voter crossover.

Trump will likely take credit for Katie Britt's Senate victory in Alabama, but make no mistake – this was a win for the state's Republican establishment.

Britt was once chief of staff for Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., whose retirement opened the seat in the first place. She also served as chief executive of the Business Council of Alabama.

Both Shelby and the council helped Britt's candidacy, even at the time Trump endorsed Rep. Mo Brooks for the seat. Trump later withdrew his endorsement of Brooks after criticizing him over his revised views of the 2020 election.

By the time Trump endorsed Britt on June 10, she was well on her way to victory over Brooks in the runoff.

In declaring victory, Britt talked about the newness of her appeal.

"Alabama has spoken," she said. "We want new blood. We want fresh blood."

Boyd says that those polls are misleading and that Brooks may have a surprise in this runoff, regardless of the support from the former president.

“I think Mrs. Britt is enjoying a commanding lead but I believe those polls are misleading,” Boyd explained. “If you recall weeks before my primary, they had me at somewhere around 20 percent if not even that. But you saw we pulled out with over 60+ percent. I believe what you are going to see as I pointed out earlier in the far-right show-up tomorrow and perhaps put Mo Brooks at a more favorable lead than others have anticipated.”

Boyd added that in anticipation of the winner of the runoff that his campaign has picked up some steam and that he and his team are ready for whoever is the Republican challenger after Tuesday’s election runoff.

GOP congressman dumps Trump after watching Jan. 6 hearings.

Although one of the Republican witnesses against Donald Trump admits he'll back him again in 2024, at least one GOP lawmaker has seen enough from the House select committee.

Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) told CNN's Manu Raju on Wednesday that after watching the panel's public hearings he "will not be supporting" the former president in the 2024 Republican primary, if Trump announces he is running.

Bacon's announcement came shortly after news broke that Arizona House speaker Rusty Bowers, who testified against Trump during Tuesday's hearing and said the ex-president's supporters threatened his family, said he would still vote for him if he won the GOP nomination.

State lawmakers and poll workers described Tuesday how their lives had been upended by threats of violence as Trump singled them out in his bid to overturn the 2020 US election.

Dominion may own Newsmax and Fox News.

Just days after advancing Dominion’s lawsuit against Newsmax, a judge allowed the voting machine company at the center of pro-Trump conspiracy theories to sue Fox in a $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit that allegedly goes to the top of Rupert Murdoch’s dynasty.

He might need a Super Man costume next month.

The House select committee will pause its public hearings until next month after receiving significant new evidence related to Donald Trump's effort to overturn his election loss.

The panel will hold another hearing Thursday focused on Trump's pressure campaign against the Department of Justice, but select committee chairman Bennie Thompson (D-MS) told reporters on Wednesday the remaining hearings would be rescheduled for July.

"The panel is reassessing its schedule after significant new tranches of evidence have arrived — including documentary footage, NARA productions and new tips," reported Politico's Kyle Cheney.

We may have a Second Revolution Day in July.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Thompson said the final few hearings, which are expected to focus on the militia groups that stormed the Capitol and Trump’s lack of action to call off the rioters, will be pushed back until after the July recess.

The chairman said the reason for the delay was because of new evidence that has arisen since the hearing started, including leads on its tip line, more records obtained from the National Archives, as well as video footage.

The final set of hearings were originally on a collision course with a number of major supreme court decisions, including on abortion rights, that would probably have eclipsed the hearings if they happened simultaneously.

The House is currently scheduled to leave Washington, DC for its next recess on 24 June and return on 12 July2. The timetable suggests that hearings would probably resume after that date.

His refusal to call of the insurrection, and direct evidence could get him changed for inciting the insurrection.

During the second impeachment trial..

McConnell argued that Congress could not impeach a former President. But he pointed to other avenues for accountability. He said:

President Trump is still liable for everything he did while he was in office, as an ordinary citizen, unless the statute of limitations has run, still liable for everything he did while in office, didn’t get away with anything yet – yet. We have a criminal justice system in this country. We have civil litigation. And former presidents are not immune from being held accountable by either one.

By a vote of 57-43, the Senate voted to acquit.

Whether the investigators in the House Select Committee and ultimately the Justice Department fully and effectively pursue accountability for the events of Jan. 6 remains to be seen. Certainly, far more evidence is before them than was before the Senate.

The new evidence???

Oh... and I can actually provide that evidence! I don't need to delay anything for several weeks because nobody is paying attention to me!

After hearing complaints by prosecutors and defense attorneys that the Jan. 6 Committee complicated their work, a federal judge “reluctantly” agreed to postpone the Proud Boys’ seditious conspiracy trial until December 2022.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Representatives of the Committee have indicated that the relationship between the Trump Administration and the Proud Boys and other groups will be the subject of a future hearing,” the government’s filing says. “Were the trial in this case not continued, the parties in this case could find themselves in the unprecedented position of litigating a criminal trial simultaneous to the release of a Congressional report that is likely to include robust descriptions of the criminal conduct of the defendants.”

The bottom line is that his approval ratings won't matter later on
