I wonder how many people are gaslighted into believing Democrats are the party of minorities?

You seem to have forgotten about the changes in the 60s. The Democrats in the south were Dixycrats until the civil rights era.

After that the Southern States started voting for Republicans.
Under Abraham Lincoln , the Republican Party was the liberal party.

You have abandoned the Republican party of Lincoln 🥳

I support

The left is at it again, and conservatives need to be on high alert. The left has been pushing for a national popular vote to elect the propresident of the United States for years. Since 2017, 10 more states have either signed the National Popular Vote bill into law or approved the bill in one state legislative chamber. This should be a grave concern because it directly undermines the electoral system established by our Constitution.
____
That needs to be changed.

As an anti Federalist philosophy person I would support a majority vote process.

I actually support a Constitutional reform project.

Senate Republicans Splinter to Give Biden Key Victories
July 30, 2022 at 12:04 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard 19 Comments

“For the third time in a month, Senate Republicans on Wednesday splintered on a key vote and ushered a Democratic priority toward President Biden’s desk,” the Washington Post reports.

“Seventeen Republicans joined 47 members of the Democratic caucus to approve the $280 billion Chips and Science Act, a bid to relaunch the domestic semiconductor industry. That follows 15 Republicans last week joining 49 members of the Democratic caucus to confirm Judge J. Michelle Childs to a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, giving her a leg up toward the ultimate judicial promotion of the Supreme Court.”

“And in late June, 15 Republicans joined all 50 members of the Democratic caucus to pass the most expansive gun violence prevention legislation in nearly 30 years. A few Republicans are even trying to round up a similar level of support for legislation that would codify the 2015 Supreme Court ruling that guaranteed the right to same-sex marriage.”

Biden No Longer Shy in Singling Out Trump
July 30, 2022 at 11:57 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 29 Comments

One month into his presidency, Joe Biden made clear his distaste for even naming the man he had ousted from the Oval Office, declaring, “I’m tired of talking about Trump,” the AP reports.

But now, Biden is eagerly naming and singling out the erstwhile “former guy” in prepared remarks and on social media, elevating Donald Trump in a way that Biden and White House aides didn’t do during the first 18 months of his term.

Chile is updating its constitution for the 21st century. The US should follow its lead

David Adler

The US constitution used to be considered a model for democracies around the world – but its antiquated institutions and absence of rights have guaranteed its declining influence

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Every constitution,” Thomas Jefferson wrote in a 1789 letter to James Madison, “naturally expires at the end of 19 years.” Two centuries after its expiration date, citizens of the United States are suffering the consequences of a constitution drafted by 55 men who owned hundreds of human slaves, thousands of acres in landed estates, and millions of dollars in inherited wealth. Fundamental rights denied, foundational institutions paralyzed and existential crises ignored: these are side-effects of a legal framework that has not been meaningfully amended in over a half-century.

a time when democracies are ravaged by violent polarization, Chile’s convention has charted a path to peaceful renovation. Led by women, the convention brought together workers, Indigenous peoples and parties from across the political spectrum to draft a new constitution over the course of a year of careful deliberation. The result is a document that responds directly to the escalating crises of inequality, insecurity and a changing climate. The constitution establishes new universal public services for health, education, and clean water. It endows nature with rights and protects Chile’s glaciers, parks and big bodies of water from environmentally disastrous mining. And – four decades after Pinochet’s decree – it finally turns Chile into a full democracy, with gender parity in public institutions, self-determination for Indigenous peoples, collective bargaining for all workers and the right to vote for all Chileans over the age of 16.

The Constitution was designed to change with the times, while preserving the promise of justice, equality, and liberty for all. The Brennan Center is dedicated to making sure it does just that.

The Brennan Center fights for change right now. But we also work over the longer term to shape a Constitution that’s in sync with an evolving America — a document that was designed to keep up with changes seen and unforeseen, and that provides the authority to protect and expand democracy to meet the needs of all. Our groundbreaking legal research is helping to reshape advocacy strategies on issues from free speech to equal rights for women to gun safety.

ISSUES WE ADDRESS

Electoral College Reform

We support constitutional reforms that would eliminate the Electoral College in favor of direct election of the president by a national popular vote.

Equal Rights Amendment

The fight to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment has gained momentum in recent years. At this crucial moment, the Brennan Center for Justice has brought the best legal experts together to examine these renewed efforts.

First Amendment

Free speech rights are under threat. The Brennan Center for Justice fights to protect First Amendment rights to free speech and freedom of the press.

Second Amendment

The Second Amendment permits sensible gun laws. Our analysis pushes back on absolutist characterizations of the amendment.

A Wisconsin sheriff who’s argued for months that the state’s top elections officials should be charged criminally actually celebrated a local right-wing activist who admitted that he filled out ballot request forms using other people’s names.

The activist, Harry Wait, went online to request absentee ballots for himself in the names of Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R) and Racine Mayor Cory Mason (D).

“Basically, I committed a crime when I ordered them,” Wait told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Lying on absentee ballot request forms is illegal.

The entire police department of a small town in North Carolina reportedly resigned almost two months after the town hired a Black woman as town manager — prompting questions about race in the small town.

Kenly Township — about 40 miles southeast of Raleigh, North Carolina — faced a mass resignation of the entire police department on July 20 after Chief Josh Gibson, along with four other officers, submitted their two-week notice, according to CBS 17.

The officers cited that their newly elected Town Manager, Justine Jones created a "hostile work environment," per the outlet.

"All of us are very heartbroken that it had to come to this," Gibson told CBS 17.

Senate GOP Begins to Fear Party Is Too Extreme
July 30, 2022 at 4:33 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Washington Post: “Uncompromising positions and loaded rhetoric on key social issues are escalating concerns within GOP circles that the party is moving too far out of sync with popular opinion, projecting new hostility to gay people and potentially alienating women voters in high-stakes races.

“The Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade and ending a nationwide right to abortion last month has spawned strict new bans and stirred fears that gay rights and access to contraception could be next — shifting the focus from other culture-war battles where Republicans felt they had a winning message.”

Kansas No State Constitutional Right to Abortion and Legislative Power to Regulate Abortion Amendment is on the ballot in Kansas as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment on August 2, 2022.

A "yes" vote supports amending the Kansas Constitution to:

state that nothing in the state constitution creates a right to abortion or requires government funding for abortion and state that the legislature has the authority to pass laws regarding abortion.

A "no" vote opposes amending the Kansas Constitution, thereby maintaining the legal precedent established in Hodes & Nauser v. Schmidt (2019) that the Kansas Bill of Rights provides a right to abortion

I will gladly be voting . Mrs. Ryan the polling Official and Nieghbor of 30 + years will ask for my ID, she will scan it. I will sign affirming I am who I say I am.
She will hand me my ballot and I will vote. She will scan my ballot.

Mueller’s final report, which did find evidence of collaboration between the Trump campaign and Russia but did not spell out that Trump should be charged with obstruction of justice, was ultimately deflating for many liberals who had spent months building up the special counsel’s investigation as one that could bring down the president.

Now, despite the risk of another disappointment, some liberals are again publicly suggesting there is enough evidence for Garland to target Trump in his investigation.

“Now that the summer season of the January 6 Committee’s hearings is over, it’s time to tell AG Garland he has NO CHOICE but to INDICT the former president,” tweeted Laurence Tribe, a left-leaning legal scholar and frequent Trump critic.

I have an embarrassing confession to make: I once, sort of, respected Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always known he’s a flakey Democrat, and though it’s been fun to entertain him possibly switching parties and causing a meltdown on the left, those hopes were always far-fetched. Still, his stance over the last year against a boondoggle, green scam-filled reconciliation bill was laudable. Even in the face of intense pressure, including personal harassment and threats, Manchin stood firm – until he didn’t.

In a sudden reversal, Manchin stabbed Republicans in the back. Despite assurances that if the GOP voted for the CHIPS Act that the West Virginia senator wouldn’t support another gut-busting spending bill, Manchin came in off the top rope to announce he and Schumer had made a deal. What was in it? $400 billion in wasteful spending on “climate change” initiatives. It also includes tax hikes on corporations which will exacerbate inflation.

For days, those in the political sphere racked their brains trying to figure out what caused Manchin to change his mind. A new report from The Washington Post gives us the answer, and the short of it is that he’s a pathetic coward.

'Full Ginsburg': Joe Manchin to take major victory lap after Inflation Reduction Act agreement

Bob Brigham

July 30, 2022

Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia is set to take a huge victory lap on Sunday after announcing a deal had been reached to pass the Inflation Reduction Act.

"Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) has scheduled a full Ginsburg for Sunday. If completed, Manchin will be only the 31st newsmaker to accomplish the feat since Feb. 1, 1998, when William H. Ginsburg, the lawyer for Monica Lewinsky, first appeared on all five Sunday morning talk shows," Politico reported Saturday.

It was been over two years since the feat has been completed, last done by Dr. Anthony Fauci early in the pandemic.

"Manchin, who is recovering from Covid, will have one major advantage over many previous members of this exclusive club: He will be conducting all five interviews via a remote hookup rather than being ferried from studio to studio in Washington," Politico noted.

The second "full Ginsburg" was completed by Rep. Rick Lazio (R-NY) as he faced off against Hillary Clinton in New York's 2000 Senate race. Clinton would go on to complete the feat seven years later.

Her husband, Bill Clinton, did 'full Ginsburg' with George W. Bush after the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

Then-Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani have done it. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) has the record with 3 "full Ginsburg."
