A lot of people have compared Trump to Hitler, but this is totally unfair.

Hitler had the decency to admit defeat.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — After a year of deliberation on how to address rapid inflation and a shrinking economy, Democrats have at last landed on the bold strategy of doing the same exact things that helped land us in this mess to begin with.

"So, you know how we spent trillions upon trillions of dollars and wound up screwing up the economy?" said Senator Manchin. "I've been brainstorming for twelve months, and I think I've got the solution. What if - wait for it - we spend even more money? And we clamp down on domestic energy production even harder?? Pretty brilliant, right?"

Very serious journalists hailed the new spending bill as a potential resurrection for the floundering Biden administration. "With the economy being the number one issue for voters right now, Biden has been desperately searching for a solution," said Politico writer Jonathan Lemire. "Well guess what, Republicans? He's figured it out - a half-trillion dollar spending bill, a corporate tax hike during a recession, more auditing from the IRS, and a devastating block on domestic energy production. Economic problems - solved! Biden's back, baby!"

Although some economists were initially resistant to the idea, they got on board upon hearing that Democrats had named their proposal the "Stop Inflation And Fix Every Problem Ever" bill. "Gosh, I was so sure that printing money was bad for inflation, but then I saw the bill's name," said economics Professor Stanley Rube. "Somehow, some way, this time spending money is going to be the ticket. You know what they say - if at first you don't succeed, keep doing whatever lead to abject failure."

At publishing time, Democrats had decided to tackle the recent crime wave by prosecuting fewer crimes and putting violent criminals back on the street even faster

Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) detailed a plan to “fundamentally remake the United States” in remarks caught on tape and reported by Insider.

Santorum told GOP lawmakers this would culminate with an unprecedented event: a first-of-its-kind convention to rewrite the Constitution.

Said Santorum: “You take this grenade and you pull the pin, you’ve got a live piece of ammo in your hands… 34 states — if every Republican legislator votes for this, we have a constitutional convention.”

If they were successful, a constitutional convention led by conservatives could trigger sweeping changes to the Constitution.

Their goals include gutting federal environmental standards, nixing nationwide education requirements, and creating an incredibly high threshold for Washington, DC, or a territory to earn statehood. Some would like to make it difficult, if not impossible, for someone — National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci, for example — to work for decades within the federal government.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The resolution the group is pushing would limit a convention to amendments that "impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress."

But limiting "the power and jurisdiction" of the federal government is an expansive mandate that could encompass virtually anything and enable delegates to pass extreme amendments while technically staying within the bounds of the convention.

"I defy you to name a Constitutional amendment that you might want that I couldn't characterize as one of the three things in the Convention of States," Super said. "You want to repeal the 14th Amendment Equal Protection Clause? That's limiting the power of the federal government to interfere with state laws. Almost anything you want, you can characterize as one of those things."

The bottom line is that the Federalist philosophy that President Thomas Jefferson opposed successfully would dismal every federal government regulations. And turn each state into independent states.

Vulnerable Democrats See Abortion as Winning Issue

July 31, 2022 at 8:00 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Associated Press: “That’s a sign of how the Supreme Court’s decision in June to repeal a woman’s federal constitutional right to abortion has scrambled the political dynamics heading into the fall elections, when control of Congress is at stake. A half-dozen of the most vulnerable House members — all of them women, all representing swaths of suburban voters — see the issue as one that could help them win in an otherwise difficult political climate.”

Small Crowds at Trump-Hosted Saudi Golf Event

Former President Donald Trump is hosting the Saudi-backed LIV Golf tournament this weekend at his New Jersey golf club but it “wasn’t exactly supercharged—light crowds were spread across much of the vast grounds here on the first day of the tournament,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“Tickets for the Saturday session were available on stubhub.com for as little as $1.”

Concern About Abortion Fuels Push to Vote
July 31, 2022 at 6:13 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 33 Comments

“Concern about abortion access has exploded among Democratic voters as an election issue over the past month, a new USA Today/Suffolk University Poll finds, as the repercussions of the Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade begin to reverberate.”

“Now, 64% of Democrats say the court’s action makes them more likely to vote in November, potentially a crucial factor in midterm elections that traditionally have low turnout. That’s more than double the 29% of Democrats who expressed that view in a USA Today/Suffolk survey taken after a draft of the landmark decision was leaked in June.”

Kansas Abortion Vote Tests Political Energy
July 31, 2022 at 6:05 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 11 Comments

“In the final days before Kansans decide whether to remove abortion rights protections from their State Constitution, the politically competitive Kansas City suburbs have become hotbeds of activism,” the New York Times reports.

“There may be no greater motivator in modern American politics than anger. And for months, Republican voters enraged by the Biden administration have been explosively energized about this year’s elections. Democrats, meanwhile, have confronted erosion with their base and significant challenges with independent voters.”

“But interviews with more than 40 voters in populous Johnson County, Kan., this week show that after the fall of Roe, Republicans no longer have a monopoly on fury — especially in states where abortion rights are clearly on the ballot and particularly in the battleground suburbs.”

USA Today: Abortion rights face a key test in upcoming Kansas vote, the first of its kind since the fall of Roe.

Falling Food Prices Ease Upward Pressure on Inflation
July 31, 2022 at 6:00 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 3 Comments

“Falling prices for commodities such as wheat or corn are set to slow consumer food price increases, easing pressure on a major driver of global inflation,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“But economists warn it is too soon to declare victory. Agricultural markets remain volatile and the continuing war in Ukraine, combined with unusually hot and dry weather in Europe and parts of the U.S., could bring new disruptions to food supplies.”

Indiana Senate Passes Near-Total Abortion Ban
July 30, 2022 at 9:31 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard 308 Comments

“Indiana state senators narrowly passed a near-total abortion ban Saturday during a rare weekend session, sending the bill to the House after a contentious week of arguments over whether to allow exceptions for rape and incest,” the AP reports.

“The bill would prohibit abortions from the time a fertilized egg implants in a uterus. Exceptions would be allowed in cases of rape and incest, but a patient seeking an abortion for either reason would have to sign a notarized affidavit attesting to the attack.”

Members of the US House of Representatives will now receive up to $10,000 to upgrade security at their homes in the face of rising threats against lawmakers, the House sergeant at arms announced last week, in yet another sign that American politics has entered a dangerous, violent new phase.

As support for political violence appears to be on the rise in the US, experts warn that such threats endanger the health of America’s democracy. But they say the country still has time to tamp down violent rhetoric if political leaders, particularly those in the Republican party, stand up and condemn this alarming behavior.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The announcement over increasing security for people in Congress came days after a man attacked Lee Zeldin, a New York congressman and Republican gubernatorial candidate, with a sharp object during a campaign event.

Two weeks before that, a man was arrested outside the home of Pramila Jayapal, chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, for allegedly shouting racist obscenities and threatening to kill her. Last month, authorities filed federal charges against a man who they say traveled from California to Maryland with the intent of murdering the supreme court justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Public service has clearly become an increasingly dangerous endeavor in America.

“We’ll see certainly in the short run adjustments in prices,” said Rob Vos, an economist at the International Food Policy Research Institute. “I would be very cautious in making big projections that things are stabilizing and getting better because we still are in a pretty difficult and tight situation.”

Top down economics and Russia are the reason for inflation

Wednesday, the Fed – America’s central bank – raised interest rates by three-quarters of a percentage point, and signaled more rate increases to come, perhaps as soon as September.

This followed a quarter-point increase in March, another half a point in May, and three-quarters of a point in June.

On Thursday, the commerce department announced that the US economy had shrunk for the second quarter in a row.

While not technically a recession (economists in and out of the White House have spent much of the last several days deconstructing the word “recession”), there’s no question but that the US economy is slowing.

This, to put it mildly, makes no sense.

Inflation has broken out all over the world – the consequence of pent-up demand from more than two years of pandemic and of limited supplies of everything from computer chips to wheat, due to difficulties getting the world economy up and running.

Add in Putin’s war in Ukraine driving up world energy and food prices, and China’s lockdowns against Covid, and you get a perfect conflagration.

That’s not all. Big corporations are busily raising their prices because consumers have so little choice. Corporations are using inflation as cover.

Prices at the gas pump have drifted down a bit in the last month but are still eye-popping. (Here in California, I’m paying over $6 a gallon.)

At the same time, big oil has hit a gusher. Exxon just reported second-quarter profits of $17.9bn, more than three times what it earned a year ago. Chevron’s profit more than tripled to $11.6bn.

The two giant American oil companies aren’t pouring their profits back into energy, green or otherwise. They’re buying back their shares of stock to reward investors and executives.

There are two liberals who were part of Soars and CHT who don't show up anymore. Most liberals soars people went over to Timbuks blog or just gave up on the concept. People like Timbuk, Alvy, etc who took part in the member protected circle jerk... and people like JerryBrown and Nyukyuk who just stopped being a part of either.

The two who were around were:

Indyvoter, who is putting out about 50 tweets a week to 13 followers and WPHamilton who quite literally has been in and out of mental institutions and only came back after 2020 to gloat about Biden beating Trump.

But I could make a very long list of others who were part of this blog for years who have commented on the threads or sent me emails about why they no longer come over here...

It has everything to do with the manner in which the comment threads have become fodder for anti-Trump cut and paste spamming...

Well non-stop is the term I hear the most.

People cannot figure out why certain people feel the need to spam every thread with the same thing and sometimes spam the same thread multiple times with the same nonsense.

It's obsessive compulsive behavior. A complete lack of self control. Immaturity and selfishness.

Calm down Karen Amick,no one is rewriting the US Constitution.

If this passes it will be a monumental period in time.

West Virginia Democratic senator Joe Manchin on Sunday hailed the legislation he almost killed off, calling the rewritten $739bn bill he agreed to last week to pay down US debt and tackle the climate crisis “great for America”.

Manchin, on a tour of all five Sunday morning TV politics talk shows, told CBS’s Face the Nation that the energy and climate deal he’s now supporting will tackle inflation because it will be “aggressively producing more energy, to get more supply, to get the prices down”.
