Regarding comment moderation...

I happen to be on vacation this week and have other events going on. I was not sitting around last night monitoring the news or checking the blog for comments.  By the time I took a look at both (the news and the blog) I found multiple accusational comments about how I was not allowing comments on the Trump story as if it was some conspiracy. I was being accused of censorship and cowardice.. all because I was otherwise engaged.

The comments are no longer open because there are a couple of people who lack the self control to not ruin every thread. Even with the moderation it is clear that this isn't going to change (same people providing the same thing over and over in multiple comments). You apparently cannot teach old dogs any new tricks.

Unfortunately the same people who refuse to change are the ones who seem way too quick to delve into anger and accusations against the blog host. It is unhinged and unhealthy to see how quickly the meltdown incurs. Moreover, it is not enduring to the cause and if need be I can go back to no comments if it means I don't have to continuously read insults aimed at me when my timing is not satisfactory to them.

This is on two people. Not on me.

Well, Ch, I will just say this to you--
I honestly think one difference between you and me is this:

If you were to post something strongly critical of me, something that even really got to me and angered me -- which you sometimes have! -- I would (were I the administrator) go out of my way to include it, even though I did not like it and might even find it unduly sarcastic or demanding. I would do that because I firmly believe in free speech.

As administrator, I could always respond to the remark with a disagreement or even a warning, but I would initially post it regardless, out of sheer principle.
