THE HILL
Trump claims presidents can declassify documents ‘even by thinking about it’

BRETT SAMUELS
September 21, 2022, 10:12 PM

Former President Donald Trump in a new interview asserted presidents don’t have to go through a formal process to declassify sensitive documents and can do so “even by thinking about it.”

The former president’s comments came as he has repeatedly argued that he declassified secret and top-secret documents he took with him to his Florida home after leaving the White House in 2021 amid a Justice Department investigation into his handling of classified materials.

“There doesn’t have to be a process, as I understand it,” Trump told Fox News host Sean Hannity. “If you’re the president of the United States, you can declassify just by saying, ‘It’s declassified.’ Even by thinking about it.

“There can be a process, but there doesn’t have to be. You’re the president. You make that decision. So when you send it, it’s declassified,” Trump added. “I declassified everything.”

Though presidents have broad power to declassify records, doing so sets off a chain of events, as the intelligence agencies that manage such records must take additional steps.

Trump and some of his allies have been insistent that the former president declassified all of the documents that he took with him upon leaving the White House. The FBI searched his Mar-a-Lago estate last month after a January search found dozens of classified, secret and top-secret documents.

Trump’s attorneys in a filing last week repeatedly noted that he had the power to declassify records but stopped short of saying he actually did so despite a month of the former president airing the excuse.

The Justice Department responded by pointing out that Trump’s legal team was insinuating, but not fully asserting, that Trump had declassified the documents.

Trump told Hannity that the General Services Administration (GSA) and other White House staff were involved in packing up boxes at the end of his term with pictures, newspaper articles and other materials.

The GSA, however, says its role in the transition phase for the outgoing president and vice president includes IT support, financial management, parking, furniture, vehicles, office equipment and administrative support.

“The GSA also works with the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), as necessary, to provide support to the former Presidents in the establishment and maintenance of their libraries,” the organization states on its website. “These services are only provided in the event of a change of Administration.”

NY Post has a long and informative article detailing how the fbi is illegally going after its whistleblowers for objecting to and exposing the corruption and political bias in thd bureau. It's far more worthy of anyone's time to read it than anything else being presented. 12 year agent Steve Friend is a hero who has lost his career due to his objecting to it all. This is concerning and dangerous.

A day of double legal blows undermined ex-President Donald Trump’s battle to avoid criminal action for hoarding classified documents and left him exposed to potential civil penalties targeting the business wealth on which his political mystique is built.

Trump’s lifelong capacity to thwart accountability is now facing its sternest test as investigations and evidence mount against him. Trump has not been charged with any crimes, but the legal and court processes he is a master at delaying and twisting in procedural knots are now making serious headway.

We are now at a point where I can no longer shake my head in understanding of the position these people are in. Just as a reminder, this is not some new phenomenon. The FBI has at best been a bureaucracy whose sole mission, as is the mission of every bureaucracy, is to perpetuate itself. I don't have to go into the litany of scandals and outrages it was at the center of over the course of just the past 30 years. Right here and right now, the FBI is nothing more than an instrument of political repression that is being wielded by a Junta that seeks nothing more than absolute power and the final destruction of the American republic.

My message to every employee of the FBI, as well as the DOJ, CIA and now the IRS and every other damned agency in Washington is unequivocal: to hell with your 20-year career and your pension. If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. And that problem is going to lead to a "final solution" if you catch my meaning. I applaud Steve Friend. The problem is the thousands of others who will not stand with him right now, when the chips are down not just for him but for the nation itself. We hang together or we hang separately, and as of now that seems to be our fate. As one commenter noted yesterday evening:

People read history books about the beginning of something horrific like the Third Reich and ask "Why didn't they see? Why didn't they DO something?"

We are living in exactly such a time, and we are finding out why 'they' didn't do something. Trying to stop the horror brings the gaze of said horror to you. And that horror will use the power of the state crush you and everyone associated with you.

So here we are making an argument about the criminal conduct of the fbi. No doubt James will ignore it all and try to change the topic to Trump again.

"I actually didn't think they'd bring a case because they didn't have a case.

They don't have a case."

LOL @ the alky.

If Laquishaniqua James had a case she'd be pursuing Trump with CRIMINAL charges, not suing him in a civil case.

The basis of her "case" is that Trump over-stated the value of properties to secure loans. When you apply for a loan the LENDER determines if they wish to loan you the $$$ or not. The lender can evaluate the value of the property and determine of their own free will.

Laquishaniqua's "case" is a fucking clown car move to keep her job and to position herself for a future run for governor.

This is precisely what happens when you elect the most stupid among us.

Most secure election evah

https://www.deepcapture.com/wp-content/uploads/FultonPAsuesDominion.pdf

Fulton County, Pennsylvania filed a lawsuit against Dominion Voting Systems this morning for a “breach of contract”.

The county says that it became “aware of severe anomalies” with Dominion Voting Systems during the 2020 election after it was unable to reconcile “voter data with votes actually cast and counted”.

An investigation by Wake Technology Services of West Chester, Pa. into the machines at the county’s request in February 2021 found numerous significant issues with the machines.

These included ballot scanning errors and non-certified database tools installed on the system.

Speckin Forensics Laboratories based out of Lansing, Michigan, was retained to acquire forensic images of six hard drives in Fulton County, Pennsylvania on July 13-14, 2022.

The private forensics firm, whose “examiners have presented testimony in over 30 states”, produced a county commissioned report on September 15, 2022, which revealed “several deficiencies” that directly contradict the “contractual terms and conditions” provided to Fulton County by Dominion Voting Systems.

The report alleges that Fulton County’s log files show “an external IP address” located in Quebec, Canada, and that an unauthorized “python script” had been installed after the certification date.

Moreover, the system’s security patch had not been updated since April 10, 2019, and default usernames and passwords had not been changed since the time of installation.

The report says, "This python script can exploit and create any number of vulnerabilities including, external access to the system, data export of the tabulations, or introduction of other metrics not part of or allowed by the certification process."

What’s more, this “external IP address” was found on the very same adjudication workstation that contained the “post certification python script”.

There is a difference between questioning a source under certain circumstances:

1) If the media outlet is passing along gossip from "unnamed sources" then their historical accuracy of those types of stories is relevant. You would have to be a fool (beyond all reasoning) to still accept something like this from WaPo or NYT as true.

2) If a headline or story is spinning facts in a certain manner, then the lean of that source is relevant.

3) If a media source is providing an opinions... well then it is just an opinion.

But demanding (as Roger and Reverend do) that pure news (such as a lawsuit that has been filed in court and can be verified) is not a valid story because of who is reporting is is a logical fallacy. Moreover, it belies common sense.

But that is how the media controls certain people. If MSNBC, CNN, WaPo, NYT, Politico, etc... all choose to ignore a news story, then that fairly large segment of liberal America will many times believe that a story reported on other outlets must somehow not be true or otherwise not important.

Unless Goddard posts something on his blog. For Reverent, it is like the proverbial tree falling in the forest with nobody around to hear it. It simply doesn't make a noise to him.

His only reaction is to discount it. The more idiotic he can be with the discounting of it the more effective he believes he is being. As if he is thinking... If I look really stupid, it will make everyone else look stupid instead.

Hint - only you look stupid claiming that an actual lawsuit must not exist because of who chooses to report on it.

McCarthy states is best:

Letitia James has made a Mountain out of a molehill and has a history of making big media splashes over legal actions she never is able to prove.

What Trump was doing is exactly what everyone in business does. Values assets higher when needed for collateral and values them lower for tax reporting.

Bottom line is exactly what Rat stated. It is up to the loan officer and underwriters to verify what something is worth for collateral. I could wander into a bank and tell them my House is worth 5 million dollars, but ultimately their underwriters makes the determination if my 5 million dollar house is actually worthy that.. or if it is worth closer to the half million listed on Zillow.

Oh... and unless you are selling a property or writing something off an asset. What you value property at as has nothing to do with your tax returns. The value of Mar-a-Lago (personal residence) has nothing to do with your tax returns. When was the last time you put your property value on your tax returns?

Trump Can’t Win the New York Fraud Case Against Him
September 22, 2022 at 5:24 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard *

Renato Mariotti:
“Trump, his son Eric, and others took the Fifth hundreds of times and they can expect James and her team to throw that back in their faces to prove their case. All of the other evidence is just supporting corroboration. The testimony of Trump and his family — or lack thereof — is the centerpiece.

“It is never easy to fight the attorney general of your state when she really wants to go after you. But Trump is overextended here because he is fighting a multi-front war. I frequently represent people and companies that are facing criminal and civil liability in different forums. Fighting on multiple fronts is hard and involves trade-offs.

“If I were Trump’s lawyer, I would have settled this case in its infancy. He delayed and dragged it out, just as he delayed and dragged on multiple criminal investigations for years. Trump might think it benefits him politically to claim James’ [investivartion] is part of the vast ‘witch hunt’ (he has certainly fundraised well off of the recent investigations) but he will likely pay a legal price if he attempts to drag this out further. James hasn’t accepted a settlement yet. Eventually she will, and the price she extracts will be a doozy.”

Trump’s Legal Woes Mount

Associated Press:
“Stark repudiation by federal judges he appointed. Far-reaching fraud allegations by New York’s attorney general. It’s been a week of widening legal troubles for Donald Trump, laying bare the challenges piling up as the former president operates without the protections afforded by the White House.

“The bravado that served him well in the political arena is less handy in a legal realm dominated by verifiable evidence, where judges this week have looked askance at his claims and where a fraud investigation that took root when Trump was still president burst into public view in an allegation-filled 222-page state lawsuit.”

Washington Post:
Trump faces growing legal peril as he seeks to raise his profile ahead of 2024.
