So Hollywood, Foreigners, and the Press are unfairly treated...

Now that's a different way of looking at it?  It's not that Hollywood is out of touch, that foreigners do not necessarily have America's best interest in mind, or that the Press is an unapologetic cheerleader to the liberal politicians... the reality (according to Meryl Streep) is that they are unfairly treated.

Meryl Streep goes after Donald Trump

The fact that the Golden Globe awards show turned into the Donald Trump bashing hour is part of the reason why so many people are looking down on Hollywood. If I had a dollar for every American who simply would like to see these entertainers be entertainers rather than political commentators, my fiance and I, both my children, and a more than a few trusted friends could all retire very comfortably.

It's one thing to use your celebrity and bully pulpit that goes with it to spout political views that nobody wants to hear. It's another to cry foul and demand that it's unfair that people do not want to take your views seriously.

Say things enough times and the feeble minded will accept them. See video @ 9:13. Amazing the lies he perpetrates, can't even be honest what the intel report said. But Streep is the villain while donnie tweets his BS. LOL

But the Republican’s focus Monday morning appeared to be devoted to a counter-assault against Hollywood. He decried Meryl Streep as a disgruntled “Hillary lover” both on Twitter and in an interview with the New York Times after the actress used a Golden Globes speech Sunday to condemn his campaign-trail comments about a reporter with a congenital condition.

“I was never mocking anyone,” Trump told the Times. “I was calling into question a reporter who had gotten nervous because he had changed his story . … People keep saying I intended to mock the reporter’s disability, as if Meryl Streep and others could read my mind, and I did no such thing.”

Gee Roger...

Let's not even consider that I wrote this without ever looking at Donald Trump's twitter feed on the subject...

I have held the position that celebrities should keep their political opinions to themselves ever since celebrities have been spouting political opinions...

I don't need Donald Trump to tell me how to think.

But it's an interesting observation to realize that your personal assumption comes from the viewpoint that politicians should form an individual's political opinion. Which explains why you so seldom think for yourself, and seemingly always need to figure out which side your politicians are, before creating a personal opinion.

Please do not project "your" version of opinion making on other people. We are not all sheep like you.

C.H. Truth said...

Opie...

I couldn't care less about the political opinions of the celebrity or how Donald Trump reacted to it. Unlike you, I don't consider being on television as making someone smarter or more entitled to have their political views heard.

I will respect them for their success, as that generally shows talent, ability and a level of commitment that comes with success in all areas. But being a good actor or a great musician doesn't necessarily make you an expert on running a Government. If the truly want to make a difference, I know one celebrity who ran for office (President in fact) and actually won his election. Otherwise, I don't need George Clooney to act like Celebrities are somehow "ahead of the curve" on political issues. The difference is that they can focus on "issues" that most people don't care about, because most people have more personal issues to deal with.

But the bottom line:

My post was very specific to the concept that the celebrity class now feels slighted and attacked because people do not take their opinions seriously...

This has nothing to do with what their opinions were or how Donald Trump reacted to them.

1. Trump fires all Ambassadors and Special Envoys, ordering them out by inauguration day.
2. House brings back the Holman rule allowing them to reduce an individual civil service, SES positions, or political appointee's salary to $1, effectively firing them by amendment to any piece of legislation. We now know why they wanted names and positions of people in Energy and State.
3. Senate schedules 6 simultaneous hearings on cabinet nominees and triple-books those hearings with Trump's first press conference in months and an ACA budget vote, effectively preventing any concentrated coverage or protest.
4. House GOP expressly forbids the Congressional Budget Office from reporting or tracking ANY costs related to the repeal of the ACA.
5. Trump continues to throw the intelligence community under the bus to protect Putin, despite the growing mountain of evidence that the Russians deliberately interfered in our election.
6. Trump breaks a central campaign promise to make Mexico pay for the wall by asking Congress (in other words, us, the taxpayers) to pay for it.
7. Trump threatens Toyota over a new plant that was never coming to the US nor will take jobs out of the US.
8. House passes the REINS act, giving them veto power over any rules enacted by any federal agency or department--for example, FDA or EPA bans a drug or pesticide, Congress can overrule based on lobbyists not science. Don't like that endangered species designation, Congress kills it.,

i think they're starting to panic.

the fly-over state morons that streep et. al. purports to despise for being stupid and bigoted are the same folks she relies upon to fill her purse with box office $$$.

that might dawn on them at some point.

and when they produce movies about their favorite liberal issue of the day, they flop at the box office:

Movie goers weren’t too interested in “Miss Sloane,” a film that explores the gun control debate from the perspective of a lawyer who is lobbying for universal background checks for gun ownership. Still, the film’s leading lady, Jessica Chastain, landed a Best Actress Golden Globe nomination for the poorly received flick.

The film, which premiered in select cities on Thanksgiving, hit more theaters this past weekend, and it fizzled in its wide expansion, earning $1.9 million from 1,648 locations.

According to Deadline, “Miss Sloane” cost $13 million to produce. It currently has a score of 69 percent on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie was projected to earn a paltry $5 million at the box office, according to the Los Angeles Times, but so far it’s fallen short.

In the film, Elizabeth, played by Chastain, leaves her top firm for the opposition when a powerful gun group asks her to devise messaging to turn women against background checks for gun ownership. Chastain is portrayed fighting for the underdogs, using everything at her disposal to try to ensure that the background check bill passes.

A quick recap of the liar in chief's comments about the mocked reporter....But you still bow in awe to the faker of all fakers......

Readers may recall that the controversy started in November when Trump, without any evidence, asserted this claim about the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks: “I watched when the World Trade Center came tumbling down. And I watched in Jersey City, New Jersey, where thousands and thousands of people were cheering as that building was coming down. Thousands of people were cheering.”

He quickly earned Four Pinocchios for that claim, and yet stuck to it, even in the face of overwhelming evidence that he was wrong.

Now, let’s go back to the recent rally in Colorado Springs, going through his explanation in detail:

“I said, ‘dancing, rooftops, street, whatever.’ And we couldn’t find too much stuff confirming what I said.”

That’s an interesting admission by Trump, in that he concedes his campaign was scrambling for some scrap of evidence that what he said was right. In other words, Trump mouthed off, and the campaign was having trouble confirming his remarks.

“All of suddenly someone comes up with an article and the article is written by this guy who said he met me many, many years ago. And the article is a great article for me. It talked about dancing, all the things. And I said, ‘here’s an article.’ I said I think he was with The Washington Post when he wrote the article. And he wrote this article. And it was great and I said here’s the article.”

The article, which appeared on Page 6 of The Washington Post on Sept. 18, 2001, described FBI probes in northern New Jersey in the wake of the attacks. In the 15th paragraph, it said that “law enforcement authorities detained and questioned a number of people who were allegedly seen celebrating the attacks and holding tailgate-style parties on rooftops while they watched the devastation on the other side of the river.” (No mention of dancing, by the way.)

“And it really shut a lot of people up. It was pretty much on point, not 100 percent, but pretty much.”

Nope, not a single fact checker found this article to be significant. The language in no way confirms Trump’s claim of watching on television celebrations of “thousands” of Muslims. “Allegedly” indicates there is no video footage or other proof that celebrations actually took place.

“The author of this article was this guy. And the press started calling him. They are calling him a lot. And obviously the other side of things started calling him also, saying ‘this article is not good, because this is sort of confirming what Trump is saying. They were dancing, they were happy. This is not good.’ So all of the sudden, the guy — I think the article was almost 15 years old — he starts changing the article, that he made a mistake, he this, he that.”

This is total fantasy, especially the suggestion that the Clinton campaign was upset and somehow got to Kovaleski and made him change his story.

We’ve checked the records and Kovaleski conducted no on-camera interviews at the time. He simply gave the same statement to every news organization, including The Fact Checker: “I certainly do not remember anyone saying that thousands or even hundreds of people were celebrating. That was not the case, as best as I can remember. The rest of the 4 nose story below.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2016/08/02/donald-trumps-revisionist-history-of-mocking-a-disabled-reporter/?hpid=hp_hp-top-table-main_no-name%3Ahomepage%2Fstory&utm_term=.5c499f097885

"Obama advanced an agenda to the left of that shared by most past presidents. Obamacare, the Benghazi catastrophe, the Iran deal, his strange stance toward radical Islam, and the Bergdahl swap were unpopular measures that required politically-driven recalibrations to escape American scrutiny.

Second, Obama’s team believes that the goals of fairness and egalitarianism more than justify the means of dissimulation by more sophisticated elites. Thus Gruber (“the stupidity of the American voter”) and Rhodes (“They literally know nothing”) employ deception on our behalf. Central to this worldview is that the American people are naive and easily manipulated, and thus need to be brought up to speed by a paternal administration that knows what is best for its vulnerable and clueless citizenry.

Such condescension is also why the administration never believes it has done anything wrong by hiding the facts of these controversies. Its players believe that because they did it all for us, the ensuing distasteful means will be forgotten once we finally progress enough to appreciate their enlightened ends."

VIENNA (AP) — Iran is to receive a huge shipment of natural uranium from Russia to compensate it for exporting tons of reactor coolant, diplomats say, in a move approved by the outgoing U.S. administration and other governments seeking to keep Tehran committed to a landmark nuclear pact.

Two senior diplomats said the transfer recently agreed by the U.S. and five other world powers that negotiated the nuclear deal with Iran foresees delivery of 116 metric tons (nearly 130 tons) of natural uranium. U.N. Security Council approval is needed but a formality, considering five of those powers are permanent Security Council members, they said.

According to a new poll, a large majority of Americans say it is important to appoint Supreme Court justices who will interpret the Constitution as it was originally written.

"Most Americans value the freedoms enumerated in the Constitution and its Bill of Rights, and therefore see as an immediate priority the appointment of justices to the Supreme Court who will interpret the document as written," said Carl A. Anderson, Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus, who commissioned the poll.

Eighty percent of Americans described it as an "immediate priority" or at least an "important" one to appoint justices to the Supreme Court who will preserve the original meaning of the Constitution, according to a poll conducted by Marist and sponsored by the Knights of Columbus.

This emphasis on appointing originalist Supreme Court justices persisted across partisan lines. Fifty-three percent of independents, 80 percent of Republicans, and even 42 percent of Democrats described this goal as an "immediate priority." Overall, 56 percent of Americans described it that way.
