Here is a question

So one of the arguments I heard over the weekend from the fearmongers on the left is how the horrible AHCA will screw over the vulnerable older generation, by increasing the differential that an older person can be charged for a health care plan.

Quite obviously older people use more healthcare than younger people, and yes part of the concept of insurance is that those who don't use it, sort of subsidize those who do use it. But to a larger degree the concept of insurance is also to some degree a forced savings account... where you send money to the insurance company, and then they pay out when you need it.

Common sense should tell us that insurance companies cannot exist if the payments that they make on their customers behalf  is more than the amounts of the premiums that they bring in. Basic business logic requires these companies to demand enough revenue to cover expenses.

The ACA required that insurance companies can only charge an older person three times that of a younger person, in spite of the fact that they will use much more than three times the amount of health care. The new AHCA would increase that rate from three times to five times. This is being hailed by the left as an injustice of epic proportions to our too-often-cheated older worker.

The Truth is that older workers simply make considerably more money and have accumulated considerably more wealth than younger workers. You don't see 50 year old people taking your drive through order, stocking shelves at the grocery store, or making your latte at the coffee shop. You see young people, many who are struggling to get by.

The unemployment rate of someone 55 and older is 3.2%. The unemployment rate for someone between 45-55 is 3.4%. The unemployment rate for someone 16-19 is 14.7% and the unemployment rate for someone 20-24 is 7.3%

Older workers are not only more able, but in most cases will be more willing to pay for Health Insurance. Almost nobody over the age of 45 will choose to go without insurance. But if you raise the rates on those younger healthier people who insurance companies "need" to actually function... they will many times choose to go without. Even if it means paying a penalty.

So why is it that liberals would try to convince us that we need to have artificial controls to make sure that the low paid younger worker pay more to subsidize the higher paid older worker? Why do we encourage a system where younger healthier workers are going to be much less likely to purchase insurance and ultimately bring up rates for everyone else that is left?

Simple... because older workers vote at a higher rate than younger voters, and the if the Democrats are going to scare someone, it might as well be someone who is likely to vote.

Rest assured... it's not because it's good policy and certainly not because it is fair.

CH....you go ahead and post whatever tickles your bias. If you don't think you are going to take the gas pipe, good for you. The CBO is going to grade this POS and the disaster will be there for all to see. The multiplier is aimed directly at you. If you don't think that will cause your rates to go up, I know of a bridge for sale. The funny part, in spite of pauline saying the ACA would be a job killer, that never happened. Trump care otoh, is a job killer taking all that money out of medicaid, will result in many people in the industry losing their jobs. The tax breaks for the elite R's will only trickle down their own legs. Sad IMHO, you can't see straight anymore.

Just 31% Support the GOP Health Care Bill

A new HuffPost/YouGov survey finds that 31% of Americans favor the American Health Care Act, which narrowly passed the Republican-controlled House last week, while 44% oppose the bill and 25% are unsure.
Interestingly, Trump voters have now coalesced around the bill in a way they failed to do earlier this spring with 75% now supportive of the proposed legislation.

Eli Lake: “For the Washington establishment, President Donald Trump’s decision to make General H.R. McMaster his national security adviser in February was a masterstroke. Here is a well-respected defense intellectual, praised by both parties, lending a steady hand to a chaotic White House. The grown-ups are back.”
“But inside the White House, the McMaster pick has not gone over well with the one man who matters most. White House officials tell me Trump himself has clashed with McMaster in front of his staff.

“McMaster’s allies and adversaries inside the White House tell me that Trump is disillusioned with him. This professional military officer has failed to read the president  — by not giving him a chance to ask questions during briefings, at times even lecturing Trump.”

Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump

Of course the Australians have better healthcare than we do --everybody does. ObamaCare is dead! But our healthcare will soon be great.
12:13 PM - 5 May 2017

Australia has a fairly common system cobbled together over the years, with taxes paying for basic universal health care and private insurance companies picking up the slack (sort of like Medigap insurance in the US for Medicare patients). It's not especially generous, but it's also about half the cost of American health care.

And Trump just said it's better than the health care we get. Ditto for Britain's fully socialized health care. Ditto for the Scandinavian countries. Ditto for France and Germany and Japan. Everyone with a government-funded universal health care system is better than us.

Normally, a statement like this would produce a huge blowback among conservatives. But not this time. It's more of the mental disability I posted earlier. Some here are unwilling to ever question this President. Australia, like every other democracy believes that everyone should have a right for medical care. If TrumpCare as passed by the house, would leave 27 million Americans without health insurance. The worst part of that law, can be, in an extremist ideologist of federalism. States can deny protection from existing condition price discrimination.

The Democrats who attacked President Trump’s travel order in front of carefully-selected Democratic judges made the extraordinary claim that the President’s statements on the stump, as a candidate, were somehow relevant to whether the order was constitutional. This claim implies that an order may be unconstitutional if issued by one president, while the exact same order would be perfectly fine if issued by another. This is an absurd result.

It may be absurd, but it is what the Democrats believe. ACLU lawyer Omar Jadwat, arguing today before the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, told the court that President Trump’s travel order “could be constitutional” if it had been written by Hillary Clinton. Here is a portion of the audio from today’s hearing:

[...]

The last part of the audio is rather funny. Jadwat, asked whether the order on its face is valid, says No. Why? “I don’t think so, Your Honor, because the order is completely unprecedented.” To which one of the Fourth Circuit judges replies, with astonishment that seems mostly genuine: “So the first order on anything is invalid?”

As usual, the liberals have no coherent theory. Basically, they believe that anything they don’t like is unconstitutional. And “unconstitutional,” for them, has nothing to do with the actual written document called the Constitution, the charter on which our nation is founded. “Unconstitutional” merely means something they don’t like.

The sad fact is that Democratic presidents appoint Democratic judges who are willing to subscribe to such lawless nonsense.

first of all alky, 0linsky-care was and is compulsory. the penalty for non-compliance is to pay a fine. it just so happens that the fine is significantly less expensive than the confiscatory premiums and deductibles. the logical and reasoned among us can do the math. only imbecilic liberals like you grapple with this fundamental concept.

second, it's tough to require "people of all ages" to comply, when you exempt all those from the ages of 18 to 26 by allowing them to stay on mommy and daddy's insurance. if the goal is to spread the costs "throughout the entire population," one should not voluntarily reduce the number of the "entire population."

i can appreciate your willingness to tie yourself into a gordian knot to spin the 0linsky-care shitpile into a positive, but your effort doesn't make you look like any less of an idiot. it just illustrates how far you'll go to defend the indefensible.

This is an astonishing admission. For this reason alone the order should be upheld.

To do otherwise, would mean we have a capricious judiciary and the rule of law no longer applies.

Senate Republicans Struggle to Find Challengers

The AP reports:
“In Wisconsin, Michigan and other states, Republicans have passed on challenging Democrats. Trump’s abysmal approval ratings loom large as does the typically rough going for the president’s party in midterm elections. Democratic senators in states Trump carried last year have capitalized on their party’s resistance to the president to post robust early fundraising.”

SIGNS POINT TO A WAVE ELECTION

Charlie Cook: “Since Inauguration Day, President Trump has had the lowest job-approval ratings of any newly elected president since the first ‘scientifically based’ poll by George Gallup in 1936. More than anything else, midterm elections are referenda on the incumbent president. Obviously no one knows what is going to happen in next year’s midterm elections, but analysts who have watched congressional elections for a long time are seeing signs that 2018 could be a wave election that flips control of the House to Democrats.”

“The late Democratic Speaker Tip O’Neill was famous for having said, ‘all politics is local.’ I would add an important caveat: ‘All politics is local, except when it’s not.’ Roughly once a decade we see a tidal wave election, almost always at midterm, in which an invisible hand seems to boost candidates of one party and drag down candidates of the other. Candidates who normally win big end up winning by smaller margins. Lawmakers who usually have competitive races often get sucked away by the undertow. Districts that should be safe are no longer safe. Strong campaigns lose to weak campaigns, underfunded campaigns topple well-funded campaigns.”

This very easily could be a BIG WAVE election, like in good bye dimms.
Senate could easily surpass 60 vote threshold such as Obama had when he first took office.

guess then we'll never hear again from little jimmy

ROFLMFAO !!!!

James -

The RNC set a record for the most money raised ever in the first quarter of a year following a Presidential election. They outpaced the DNC by a fairly significant margin and currently have more cash on hand.

Whoever is telling you that it's the Democrats who are raising big chunks of change are simply not telling you the truth.

How Bad Is the Democratic Senate Map for 2018?

Right now, the stars seem aligned for Democratic gains in 2018. President Trump’s approval rating is low, Democrats lead in the House generic ballot and special elections show Republicans losing ground with some voters. It’s still a long way to the midterms and Trump’s approval might change drastically, but almost all of the early tea leaves seem positive for the out-party.

Except for the Senate map.

Every political junkie knows the Senate map is bad for Democrats. Over half of the Democratic caucus will be up for re-election, and some of these incumbents represent highly red states such as Montana, North Dakota, West Virginia, Indiana and Missouri. No party would want to go into a midterm defending a map like that.

And are spending a shit pile of it in georgia for a measly 1 seat. Once again, CH points out money is driving politics. Rather piss poor way to ruin a country. Oh well, simple minds say simple things and grade things on how much gold you have.

With the number of Democratic seats vs Republican up for re-election, their chances to flip the House are horrible. It will take more than Trump's current load of screwups to do it, but don't lose confidence. Screw-ups is Trump's specialty; he will deliver.
