Likely about 32 million of Trump's 33 million twitter audience are like me: have followed because they don't want to be left out but certainly don't monitor their feed for the next pearl of wisdom from Trump! A million people watching a news show are deliberate, and engaged with the content. Trump tweets random opinions, probably repeating whatever the last person who talked to him said. There is really no comparison.

I've never seen that TV show, and in fact I don't watch any TV at all, so I have no idea about the content. I suspect that it's about as pointless as all the other TV that I don't watch, but a million viewers probably think otherwise. If I had the choice of spending 10 minutes reading Trump's tweets or watching the Morning Show, I'd probably choose TV and take Morning Joe more seriously.

James...

WP suggests that only about 1 million of the 33 million Trump followers are supporters who are actually interested in what he says... and that the other 32 million are just people like him who monitor it for other reasons.

It's just another very odd example of how so many people refuse to believe that Trump has any serious followers. It's like they already forgot that last November he won 30 states and had approximately 63 million people vote for him.

Liberals read Politico, WaPo, and NYT and believe that represents reality.

That suggests (as I just offered) that he believes that only 1 million of the 33 million followers are true Trump supporters.

I follow Donald Trump on Twitter and I watch Morning Joe so lots of people are like that. If you look at the responses to his tweets on majority or are angry at him they don't like him if they're not many of the in supported if you look at the number of responses they are not positive and large large numbers I've looked at that I don't know you did but I did most of the responses are negative. And they're not negative up to Joe they're not somehow because of the idiot but most of them are good job stuff like that. This doesn't seem too I don't get it I tried how you can jump through these hoops of logic that are illogical well I know you get mad when I can when I question your judgment sometimes you can't I can't help myself you just go off on a wall like this and off you go it just doesn't make sense I don't care cuz I got to go to the gym in a few minutes and I'm not going to worry about you or anybody else I'm just going to get myself in shape and as I'm doing cuz I'm in incredible condition and I will remove release from the hot from the rehab next Thursday released. Now this I believe. If Alex Jones says it, it MUST be so.
_____________

NASA Denies That It’s Running a Child Slave Colony on Mars

On Thursday, Alex Jones welcomed a guest to talk about how kidnapped children have been sent on a two-decade mission to space. NASA now denies the interplanetary conspiracy.

A report on Alex Jones’ InfoWars claiming child sex slaves have been kidnapped and shipped to Mars is untrue, NASA told The Daily Beast on Thursday.

“There are no humans on Mars. There are active rovers on Mars. There was a rumor going around last week that there weren’t. There are,” Guy Webster, a spokesperson for Mars exploration at NASA, told The Daily Beast. “But there are no humans.”

On Thursday’s program, the InfoWars host welcomed guest Robert David Steele onto The Alex Jones Show, which airs on 118 radio stations nationwide, to talk about kidnapped children he said have been sent on a two-decade mission to space.

“We actually believe that there is a colony on Mars that is populated by children who were kidnapped and sent into space on a 20-year ride,” said Steele. “So that once they get to Mars they have no alternative but to be slaves on the Mars colony.”

Jones echoed Steele, saying “clearly they don’t want us looking into what is happening” because “every time probes go over they turn them off.”

“Look, I know that 90 percent of the NASA missions are secret and I’ve been told by high level NASA engineers that you have no idea. There is so much stuff going on,” Jones said.

At the beginning of his campaign in December of 2015, President Donald Trump told Alex Jones that “your reputation is amazing” and “I will not let you down” in a half-hour interview on InfoWars.

In the 2016 campaign, Jones amplified the baseless Pizzagate conspiracy theory that Hillary Clinton’s campaign was running a child sex ring under the basement of a D.C. pizza shop that has no basement. The theory was kicked off by a Reddit user who claimed John Podesta’s hacked emails show proof of a global child sex ring if one were to replace the word “pizza” with “little boy.”

Edgar M. Welch fired shots into that pizza shop after sending a video of one of Jones’ segments to a friend, according to police.

Jones has since apologized directly to James Alefantis, the owner of Comet Pizza, in a carefully worded letter and statement. He later hired Mike Cernovich, who pushed Pizzagate-related hashtags prior to the election in an effort to make them trend on Twitter, as an InfoWars host. Cernovich was granted a one-day pass to the White House press briefing in May, and Donald Trump Jr. said he would “win a Pulitzer” in a “long gone time of unbiased journalism.”
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

On Thursday’s Infowars broadcast, Steele alleged the kidnapped children were not only being kidnapped for space labor, but also murdered for their blood and bone marrow.

"Pedophilia does not stop with sodomizing children,” said Steele. “It goes straight into terrorizing them to adrenalize their blood and then murdering them. It also includes murdering them so that they can have their bone marrow harvested as well as body parts.”

“This is the original growth hormone,” said Jones.

When NASA’s Webster was asked about the veracity of the one rumor by The Daily Beast on Thursday, he responded, “there’s only one stupid rumor on the Internet? Now that’s news."

NASA is obviously lying. The Martians are keeping those child sex slaves in basements.

Trump Is an Unreliable Ally for Republicans

Dan Balz: “The president appears to have no commitment to an explicit strategy for getting a health-care bill to his desk, only a desire for victory and limited patience for the legislative process.

"He also has no fixed views on the substance of health-care reform, having made contradictory statements about the topic throughout his campaign and since.

“He has said he wants a health-care system with heart,
one in which everyone is covered.

"But he embraces legislation that would leave 22 to 23 million additional Americans without coverage by 2026, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

"When the House passed its health-care bill in May, he showered it and GOP leaders with praise.

"Later he called the measure “mean.”

"He campaigned against cuts in entitlements — Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid. [Yet t}he congressional legislation would revamp Medicaid, significantly slowing the growth in spending.”

IOW, HE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL HE REALLY WANTS OR IS DOING.

Bonus Quote of the Day

“I think it’s challenging and challenged. We will see what happens, but this is a difficult topic that touches every American family. And the more members of the Senate and the House both know about it, I think the harder it is to reach that conclusion you would like to get to.”

As a point in fact, I'm on record here applauding the idea of the President speaking directly through social media, so I'm really agreeing with you, MyBalls, on your principle point there. However, how does that support CH's idea that it means 33 million followers are strong Trump supporters? How does it follow from that, given the tiny information bandwidth of the channel, that it's a better reach of audience than a TV show with one million viewers?

C.H. Truth said...

Not only does Trump have 33 million people following him, you have probably millions more who read his tweets from other sources. For instance, I have his twitter feed bookmarked on the hub page. I don't even have a twitter feed that I monitor personally, but I read his tweets. Others will see the "retweets" from those who follow him first hand.

Add to that, the enormous amount of coverage he gets from his tweeting over other news outlets...

and you seriously want to argue that the 980K that watch Morning Joe somehow represent a bigger "reach"?

Btw... whether you are a Trump supporter, a Trump hater, or something in between. How does that really matter as to whether or not Trump is using Twitter to get out his messages? Does it "only" count if it goes to partisan Trump supporters?

President Trump tweeted an animated video of him tackling and punching a man with the CNN logo as his face.

Reuters reports the video appeared to be a modified version of a 2007 appearance by Trump at World Wrestling Entertainment’s WrestleMania 23 promotion, in which Trump “takes down” WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.

Playbook: “The president has just sent his 33 million followers a video of himself pummeling a man covered by the CNN logo. CNN anchors and reporters — indeed, anchors and reporters from many media outlets — have been threatened and harassed. The president tweeted this message from the comfort of his summer golf home in New Jersey, surrounded by Secret Service. Meanwhile journalists are in the field, across the country and the world.”

CNN responds: “It is a sad day when the President of the United States encourages violence against reporters.”

The media covers everything a President does or says in public. That fat gives the President unparalleled reach. His Twitter feed, not so much.

One in thirty followers influenced or informed by a twitter feed is in fact being generous. Have YOU ever conducted a marketing campaign through social media, social networks, or similar techniques? For this blog perhaps? I have, and finding a response of better than 3% would in fact be so outstanding for that channel that I'd suspect something wrong with the data.

Comparing 33 million twitter followers to one million viewers of a TV show, yes absolutely I'd say the show has better reach. Likely, much better reach.

I may have a different perspective because for a number of years, paying the rent depended on how many people I could get to my internet sales. I did investigate Twitter in the early days with a limited, controlled test. Highly targeted to consumers who could be interested in the product, and I gathered about 700 followers in a few days with a gimmick. That's not a lot, but barely enough for a test and also an indication that I could scale it up easily if I wanted to. Followers, even targeted, is not the problem, given a little imagination.

Without going into detail, I can tell you that it was the least effective in driving traffic of any alternatives at the time, including other forms of social media. Additionally the time sink to achieve results was even greater than other social media, which as you should know is already considerable. I'd have literally orders of magnitude better effectiveness even with Google Adwords.

So my point is I'm not speaking off the cuff here, not hot air based on guesswork. I had a critical interest in the performance, you might say professional experience in multiple channels of internet traffic driving, and conducted pseudo-scientific tests. Better testing, at any rate, than public information. Trump's followers are anything but targeted, and the size of his feed has an insignificant impact on directly influencing the public. What Trump's feed DOES do, is provide him a bull-horn that shouts directly to the media and other internet propagation. It wouldn't really matter if his feed had one million, or one thousand followers, because it would still provide him with that.

In a nutshell, his 33 million followers is literally irrelevant. One million viewers of a TV show is small, but still significant. If you're making a direct comparison to the effectiveness of the deliberate viewership to the size of a twitter feed, especially an untargeted one, the show wins no question.

I don't believe Donald Trump is trying to sell advertising on his twitter account... and I have not made any arguments about whether or not I would advertise on Twitter or MSNBC. That's apples to the oranges that I am referring to.

What I know for a plain fact is that millions and millions more Americans read Donald Trump's twitter feed than watch Morning Joe.

I know that for a plain fact that even a larger amount of people hear what Donald Trump is saying about Scarborough and Brzezinski than what they are saying about him.

I would bet that most Americans couldn't even say "what" Scarborough and Brzezinski was saying about Trump "prior" to Trump drawing attention to it.

I would also argue that Morning Joe will get a rating boost because Trump tweeted about them... and that nothing Scarborough and Brzezinski ever say about Trump will drive anyone to his site.

Associated Press just put up a damning story 43 minutes ago:
"Trump's Twitter battle with press may come with a price"

I think you can bank on it.
KEEP TWEETING, DONALD!

Well there you go. You don't know this "for a fact", and from my experience and testing it's highly unlikely to be true. All you know, as plain fact, is that he has a number of followers. You don't know at all how many of those followers read the President's tweets, or any tweets.

It it really was a "plain fact", then marketing campaigns on Twitter would have much greater effectiveness than they do. An ineffectiveness that you appear to acknowledge, because the plain fact is that it is ineffective to the point of uselessness. A lot of people try it, a pipe dream of "viral marketing" blinding them to the real fact that it never works. There are only two companies that I know of who have used Twitter to any real effect, and even they used it for specific service issues not penetration.

I know that for a plain fact that even a larger amount of people hear what Donald Trump is saying about Scarborough and Brzezinski than what they are saying about him.

Granted Trump has a much larger podium. But that comes along with the office of the President, not Twitter.
