Oh Oh Spaghettio...

U.S. Supreme Court’s grants certiorari in Janus v. American Federation of State

Take one:
The Associated Press says that with a conservative majority, the Supreme Court will hear “a new case with the potential to financially cripple Democratic-leaning labor unions that represent government workers. The justices deadlocked 4-4 in a similar case last year.”
Take two:
In Friedrichs, decided last year, the Court split 4-4 following the death of Justice Scalia, and therefore left standing a 9th Circuit decision adverse to the plaintiff, a California school teacher. In Janus, like Friedrichs, plaintiffs are asking the Court to overturn the ruling in Abood v. Detroit Board of Education and bar public employees from being forced into unions, or from being required to support unions via the fiction of “fair share” contributions. It is widely believed that Rebecca Friedrichs would have won her case had Scalia lived, and that, with Neil Gorsuch now sitting in place of Scalia, Janus and his co-plaintiff will win, Abood will be overturned, and public sector unions will be dealt a very serious blow.
Both liberals and conservatives are pretty much in agreement on this one.

They both agree that the 9th circuit court decision that allowed the teacher's union to continue to automatically collect/deduct dues from all employees (whether or not they are part of the union) will likely be overturned when the USSC hears the case (for the second time) in the upcoming session.

Moreover, liberals and conservatives are pretty much in agreement that this will cause a serious (if not fatal) blow to the political interests of the public sector unions. Certainly these unions can still do the unimportant trivial things... you know, like negotiate wages, benefits, and working conditions for employees. But the "really important" aspects of the unions (supporting the Democratic Party) would be a thing of the past.

Neil Gorsuch is still a tangible reminder of why this country is better off with Hillary Clinton fuming around in the private sector.

So yes it's his choice.

If enough people refuse the take the job at that wage, the employee raises the wage.

WHY I hate all polls.....Scotus may finally decide

Gill v. Whitford is straightforward enough: After taking control of Wisconsin’s Legislature and State Capitol in 2010, Republicans used computer models and voting data to redraw political boundaries in the Assembly, the Legislature’s lower house. The map cemented the Republican majority in place. In the three elections since, Democrats have never won more than 39 of the 99 seats, even when they won a majority of the votes cast statewide for Assembly candidates.

From NYT's I imagine floriduh is very similar

Our POTUS needs constant applause...from the NY Daily News... just like our stumpy.....

No one chases a cheer harder than President Donald J. Trump, and the PGA Tour knows this. Consider Sunday’s scene: Trump is up on the third floor of Liberty National’s clubhouse, inside the Commissioner's Hospitality, for the final round of the Presidents Cup. Overlooking the 14th hole, Trump, in a dark suit with an open-collared shirt sans tie, eyed the golfers as they approached the green. He watched them putt, applauded them, waved and continued to eye them as they walked by.

No acknowledgements followed.

Two American players strolled past unaware of his presence. Enter Tyler Dennis, the senior vice president for tour competitions. He wore a pink tie and dark shades as he hustled over to the rough, standing by a rope that led to the cart path. He started tipping off the players as they departed the green en route to the 15th hole.

“Give him a wave,” Dennis told American golfer Dustin Johnson.
Johnson abided. Trump nodded.
“Hey guys, the President’s up there in the corner, if you could….” Dennis told Kevin Kisner.
Kisner acquiesced. Trump clapped.

I don't think SCOTUS's ruling is going to be a happy one for you.

The Constitution give great deference to the state legislatures with regard the elections of representatives and the choosing of senators.

It is also silent on the drawing of district lines. In fact a state could chose all it's representatives at large if it chooses.

However case law says that if districts are used then they have to be roughly equivalent in population. ((One-man one-vote principle)

That is the only "constitutional" requirement.

The voter's rights act however requires the drawing of majority-minority districts to insure minority representation and the GOP has use the act to isolate the Democrats into one or two districts. (This is a law that has backfired on the Democrats).

There has never been a case where a "protected class" was created based on political affiliation.

And I don't think this SCOTUS will go there.

In memory of the fallen, I have directed that our great flag be flown at half-staff. I will be visiting Las Vegas on Wednesday to meet with law enforcement, first responders, and the families of the victims. In moments of tragedy and horror, America comes together as one. And it always has.

We call upon the bonds that unite us, our faith, our family, and our shared values. We call upon the bonds of citizenship, the ties of community, and the comfort of our common humanity. Our unity cannot be shattered by evil, our bonds cannot be broken by violence, and though we feel such great anger, at the senseless murder of our fellow citizens, it is our love that defines us today. And always will. Forever.

In times such as these, I know we are searching for some kind of meaning in the chaos, some kind of light in the darkness. The answers do not come easy. But we can take solace knowing that even the darkest space can be brightened by a single light and even the most terrible despair can be illuminated by a single ray of hope.

Melania and I are praying for every American who has been hurt, wounded or lost the ones they loved so dearly in this terrible, terrible attack. We pray for the entire nation to find unity and peace, and we pray for the day when evil is banished and the innocent are safe from hatred and from fear.

May God bless the souls of the lives that are lost, may God give us the grace of healing and may God provide the grieving families with strength to carry on. Thank you. God bless America. Thank you.

The workers work for the highest wage an employee is willing to offer.

The employee offers the lowest wage the worker is willing to work for.

That's how markets work.

LOLOLOL

Commonsense said...

So slave wages are okay in your cultist world..

If a worker is willing to work for a particular wage then it's not a slave wage.

Slavery involves compulsion. This is not compulsion.

Now if you want to have an example of a real slave wage take the 64 dollars a month stipend Cuban doctors get while working in Brazil.

The Brazilians pay the Cuban government thousands of dollars a month for each Doctor's services.

However, the Cuban doctors never see this money. They are paid way below market prices for their services and they have no power to negotiate a better salary.

They are compelled to work for money way below their market value.

Now that's slavery.

The Republicans are opposed to workers to the right to organise and work together and negotiate the wages and benefits for the labor.

Ever since the Reagan administration, for various reasons, with the exception of the construction labor unions have been weakened to the point, that most of the time, the individual working Americans, have been forced to work for what is offered, they no longer have been able to get increased wages and benefits. The flight control strike, broken by Reagan, was a major factor in the decreasing ability to organize and work together to negotiate wages and benefits.

This is a major factor, why the working class people has been unable to keep up with the top 1%, who, in large part, compliments of the Citizens United decision giving corporations equal rights as citizens.

The only unions that have been able to negotiate reasonable wages and benefits, are in the construction industry. Despite that some of the idiots here, doesn't understand that construction is highly complicated, and increasing sophisticated as the newest requirements for both structural and electrical engineering and all the other trades, requires much more than swinging a hammer. So even in "right to work for less" states, the construction unions have been able to keep the wages and benefits up to speed.

Associates of President Trump and his company have turned over documents to federal investigators that reveal two previously unreported contacts from Russia during the 2016 campaign, according to people familiar with the matter.

In one case, Trump’s personal attorney and a business associate exchanged emails weeks before the Republican National Convention about traveling to an economic conference in Russia that would be attended by top Russian financial and government leaders, including President Vladimir Putin, according to people familiar with the correspondence.

In the other case, the same Trump attorney, Michael Cohen, received a proposal in late 2015 for a Moscow residential project from a company founded by a billionaire who once served in the Russian Senate, these people said. The previously unreported inquiry marks the second proposal for a Trump-branded Moscow project that was delivered to the company during the presidential campaign and has since come to light.

Cohen declined the invitation to the economic conference, citing the difficulty of attending so close to the GOP convention, according to people familiar with the matter. And Cohen rejected the Moscow building plan.

Nonetheless, the information about the interactions has been provided to congressional committees as well as special counsel Robert S. Mueller III as they investigate whether Trump associates coordinated with Russian efforts to interfere in the U.S. election, according to people familiar with the inquiries who, like others cited in this story, spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the inquiry.

Details of the communications were turned over by the Trump Organization in recent days to the White House, defense lawyers and government investigators and described to The Washington Post.

Though there is no evidence that these Russia-related entreaties resulted in further action, the email communications about them show that Trump’s inner circle continued receiving requests from Russians deep into the presidential campaign.

After WikiLeaks began to publish emails from the Democratic National Committee that were widely believed to have been hacked at the direction of Moscow, Trump said on several occasions that he had no financial ties to Russia. In July 2016, he tweeted: “for the record, I have ZERO investments in Russia.”

But the new disclosures add to an emerging picture in which Trump’s business and campaign were repeatedly contacted by Russians with interests in business and politics. Trump’s son, son-in-law, campaign chairman, low-level foreign policy advisers and, now, Cohen, one of his closest business confidants, all fielded such inquiries in the weeks before or after Trump accepted the nomination.

The documents also underscore the Trump company’s long-standing interest in doing business in Moscow.

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke’s taxpayer-funded flights on private planes have attracted the attention of federal investigators, who are now investigating whether they were a legitimate government expense.

The department’s Office of Inspector General launched an investigation following news reports late last week that revealed a $12,375 flight Zinke chartered from Las Vegas to an airport near his home in Montana, where he spent the night.

The inspector general's investigation began Friday, the same day Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price was forced to resign amid a public outcry over his use of private planes at taxpayer expense.

He should resign also.....but will get a pass because it wasn't too bad......idiots
