Bottom line: Senate won't convict

Everything else is an exercise in futility!

"Not a chance in hell the Senate will convict Trump"

This is one of those red state Senators who would be signing his own political death certificate if he voted to convict the President. Oh, and let's be clear. This is not about the "evidence". This is about the very concept that the accusations even rise to the level of impeachment. "Quid pro quo" is simply not a crime. It's a normal everyday geopolitical tool used by every President and every world leader. Democrats wanting to "undo the 2016 election" because they don't like our President's use of this normal everyday tool is not going to fly with red state voters and most certainly not with red state Senators.

The Commerce Department will release its initial estimate of the gross domestic product — the broadest measure of goods and services produced in the economy — for the third quarter at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Here’s what to watch for:

Wall Street analysts expect the figures to show that the economy grew at an annual rate of 1.5 percent over the summer, down from 2 percent in the spring.

Policymakers at the Federal Reserve are likely to end their two days of meetings in Washington on Wednesday afternoon with an announcement that the central bank will once again drop its benchmark interest rates, a preventive tactic meant to stop a slowdown from turning into a slide.

How Americans Split on Health Care

A new New York Times/Harvard poll asked Americans to pick their favorite health care plan from three choices. “One resembled the Medicare for all proposal; one was like more incremental Democratic proposals; and one was like a plan proposed by congressional Republicans, which would reduce federal involvement in the health system and give more money and autonomy to states.

“The share of the public supporting each option wound up being almost identical — around 30% each.

“That means that most Americans support Democratic approaches to changing the health care system. But that group is about evenly split between an expansive set of changes under the Medicare for all proposal favored by Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, and a less sweeping overhaul that would simply move the country closer to universal coverage, such as those from Joe Biden and Pete Buttigieg.”

In a forthcoming review of the international evidence for the conservative Manhattan Institute, Chris Pope finds that the single-payer systems “deliver consistently lower quality and access to high-cost specialty care or surgical procedures.” Looking at the various systems across different countries, access to care is higher the larger the percentage of the population with private insurance.

The effects of Medicare for All could be significantly worse. Senator Sanders often argues for the idea by pointing out that other countries spend less while covering more people and having better health outcomes than we do. But no country has ever tried to socialize and downsize a health sector as large as ours.

The Medicare for All legislation Sanders and Warren support stipulates that health-care providers will be reimbursed at the rates used by Medicare today, which amounts to a reduction of up to 40% from what private insurers pay. Only by slashing payment rates can proponents promise to cover so many more people, and provide more extensive coverage to those who now have insurance, at no additional cost.

It’s hard to believe that such cuts wouldn’t reduce the supply of medical services, even as the new benefit promises increased demand. Waldrop himself writes that as part of a transition to a new system, payment rates for primary care should be raised in order to avoid long wait times. Even that expensive adjustment would not prevent wait lists for specialty care.

If Sanders, Warren and other advocates of Medicare for All adjusted their plan by specifying that provider payments would not be cut, then their opponents’ wait-list argument would have considerably less force. But if they did that, the price tag would be much higher; both senators are already struggling to explain how the federal government would pay for even the lower-cost version.

So long as Democrats are saying that overall costs won’t rise, or will even fall, it’s fair to warn that Medicare for All will mean many patients have reduced access to care. Because it probably will.

Lt. Col. Alexander S. Vindman, the top Ukraine expert on the National Security Council, and his family and his twin brother escaped from the Soviet Union, when he was three years old. He is a decorated soldier who served in Iraq and was wounded by an IED. He still has shrapnel in his body. The shitholes on Fox news and other social media sites, called him a spy for the Ukrainian government.

He is the first person who actually was listening in to the President and the President of Ukraine. He testified that the transcript was altered to remove relevant words in the conversation about getting dirt on his political opponents.

This contradicts the President and his political supporters that there was no quid pro quo. Even Wyoming congresswoman Cheney said that questioning his loyalty to the United States is unacceptable. So did the number two in the Senate majority, from South Dakota, Thune, questioning his loyalty to the United States is unacceptable. So, the usual suspects here are claiming that he is a traitor because he contradicts everything they believe.

The omissions, Colonel Vindman said, included Mr. Trump’s assertion that there were recordings of former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. discussing Ukraine corruption, and an explicit mention by Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, of Burisma Holdings, the energy company whose board employed Mr. Biden’s son Hunter.

He bought it to the attention of his supervisor, and they didn't do anything to correct the transcript.

The odds are that the decision was made by the President, to cover his ass.

The house is going to vote for impeachment trial and hearings on Thursday.

The public is going to see what exactly happened.

It's not going away.

What’s New in the Impeachment Case

Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, the top Ukraine expert on the National Security Council, told impeachment investigators that he had listened to the July 25 phone call between President Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, and heard Mr. Trump request that Ukraine investigate former Vice President Joe Biden.

Colonel Vindman said the White House transcript of that call had left out Mr. Zelensky saying the word “Burisma” — the name of the Ukrainian energy company that Hunter Biden had worked for, and a focus of the investigation Mr. Trump wanted — as well as Mr. Trump saying there were recordings of Mr. Biden.

When Colonel Vindman offered corrections to the transcript, which was reconstructed from voice-recognition software and notes, those two suggestions were rejected. He testified that he did not know why some changes were made and others were not.

On Monday, House Democrats announced they planned to take a vote on procedures for a more public phase of the investigation. Today, they unveiled more specifics — including open hearings and a report — with a full vote scheduled for Thursday.

EllipsesGate!

Back when President Trump released the “rough transcript” of his call with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, there were several spots where passages seemed to be omitted and replaced with ellipses. However, Trump insisted that the transcript was “word for word,” and folks with experience in this stuff explained that there was probably nothing to this. The ellipses just indicated pauses in the conversation.

Well, about that:

Lt. Col. Alexander S. Vindman, the top Ukraine expert on the National Security Council, told House impeachment investigators on Tuesday that the White House transcript of a July call between President Trump and Ukraine’s president omitted crucial words and phrases, and that his attempts to restore them failed, according to three people familiar with the testimony.

Those are pretty relevant omissions! Secret recordings of Joe Biden! An explicit mention of Burisma Holdings! I’ll bet that if we ever get to see a genuine word-for-word transcript with those passages restored, they would make the old quid-pro-quo a wee bit more obvious. After all, why redact them if they weren’t incriminating?

Will the Senate convict the President?
