Democrats Concede Their Impeachment Argument Is Failing

CNN reports that in a private meeting this week, top Democrats conceded that the polls on impeachment were unlikely to shift, and that their basic message is failing to break through for huge swaths of Americans. This is very close to admitting that their ultimate goal, of removing president Trump from office will not be achieved.

Their basic "message" requires the American public to ignore several damaging realities, anyone of them basically damning their hopes of moving the needle. Their secondary problem is proving their allegations, because of the following:

• Ukrainians received their aid and never agreed to anything in return.
• There has been zero witnesses or evidence of any explicit agreement between Trump and Zelensky as alleged.
• The Ukrainian President and Ukrainian Ambassadors dispute any allegations that they were pressured.
• Real life timing of the situation proves that Ukrainians were unaware that aid had even been withheld at the time when Democrats argue the President was using the Aid to pressure them.

But these are just the secondary problems, because the primary problem is that those opposed to the impeachment do not believe that the situation constitutes any sort of bribe or criminal behavior. So even if the could prove what they claim, it would be irrelevant to those who oppose. These are the problems that Democrats have no chance to get past.

• The law provides the executive branch the authority to set the terms and conditions of foreign aid. So you cannot argue that setting terms and conditions (which is allowed by law) is a bribe.
• Two of the Democrat's own witnesses have collaborated the viewpoint that Burisma was a problem, that it was tied to American interests, and that the investigation should be reopened. You cannot demand the President would be engaged in "corrupt intent" for asking for something that our own diplomats agree should be done. 
• The Democrats continue to push the idea that you can impeach the President for some sort of "attempted" behavior that never materialized. They want Trump supporters and GOP lawmakers to support  (for the first time in our nation's history) the removal of a duly elected President for an action that is not a crime, never materialized even if it was a crime, and of which even the literal intention cannot be collaborated or proven by any first hand witnesses or tangible evidence. 

The cold hard reality for Democrats is that this was always a losing proposition. Pelosi and others understood this, but got bullied into playing a losing hand by the liberal flank of their Party. The bigger problem is that they are entirely 100% in control of these events and they still cannot move the needle where they need to (with Trump supporters, conservative voters, and GOP lawmakers). 

Lastly... if they decide to follow through with impeachment, then it allows Trump and the GOP to actually put up the defense that they want to, rather than the limited defense being allowed by Schiff and the Democrats. 

Then watch the Democrat's case "really" fall apart.
