bFauci Predicts 100K to 200K Deaths in U.S.

Dr. Anthony Fauci projected “millions” of coronavirus cases and “100,000 to 200,000” deaths in the United States, the AP reports.

Trump predicted it would soon be zero.

Associated Press:
“The billions of tax dollars headed for hospitals and states as part of the $2.2 trillion coronavirus response bill won’t fix the problem facing doctors and nurses: a critical shortage of protective gowns, gloves and masks. The problem isn’t a lack of money, experts say. It’s that there’s not enough of those supplies available to buy. What’s more, the crisis has revealed a fragmented procurement system now descending into chaos just as demand soars.”

States having to compete against states when we SHOULD be a united nation working together for the good of all.

It's right there in the video Commonsense linked. Fauci clearly stated that "I think" between 100,000 and 200,000 cases" and then he corrected himself, "deaths."

Here is the entire 15 minute CNN State of the Union interview.

https://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2020/03/29/sotu-fauci-full.cnn

But this will not be the first time Commonsense says that someone didn't say what they did say.

WASHINGTON — As President Donald Trump looks for ways to restore normalcy in parts of the U.S., his foremost infection disease expert says the country could experience more than 100,000 deaths and millions of infections from the coronavirus pandemic.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, speaking on CNN's “State of the Union” on Sunday, offered his prognosis as the federal government weighs rolling back guidelines on social distancing in areas that have not been as hard-hit by the outbreak at the conclusion of the nationwide 15-day effort to slow the spread of the virus.

“I would say between 100,000 and 200,000 cases,” he said, correcting himself to say he meant deaths. “We're going to have millions of cases.” But he added “I don't want to be held to that” because the pandemic is “such a moving target.”

context, pederast.

the broader topic was modeling and predictions and how hard it is to build them with any degree of accuracy.

his 100,000 to 200,000 cases/deaths was an example that he himself would not commit to predicting with any degree of accuracy.

you never take a day off from the lies and deceptions.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

LOL You cannot twist that video into something that it is not.

Dr. Fauci is being frank, indicating that the situation is dire and could stretch into "millions" of cases and 100 to 200 thousand deaths. But of course he hopes it might not be that bad IF we could begin to intervene effectively, which he admits is not likely. Look at the end of the interview where effectively shoots down Trump's stupid 15 days and Easter deadlines.

Before the whole modeling and ranges Fauci says "We don't have any firm idea"

Then james twists his response into something that implies a firm idea. Not mentioning using models he doesn't trust but are all that are available.

And he doesn't shoot down Trump's "stupid" 15 days and Easter deadlines. First of all they are not "deadlines". And they are not stupid. They are targets and they are flexible. And having goals are necessary.

It is clear the left will turn on Fauci in a New York second if he ends up supporting whatever the coronavirus task force comes up with and it involves loosening restrictions. Which it looks like he will go along with if things proceed in the direction he wants.

And especially so for the POS "pastor". Of course he will post whatever political_lire posts.

GRAHAM: No, she’s blaming the president of the United States for people dying because of the way he’s led the country. That’s the most shameful, disgusting statement by any politician in modern history. Let me tell you, we’ve seen the best of America from our citizens helping each other, delivering groceries, having special shopping hours for senior citizens. She’s the first politician to blame another politician for people dying. This is the same speaker of the House who held up the bill in the Senate for days because she wanted same-day voting. She wanted carbon neurtrality for the airlines. She wanted $75 million for the endowment for the humanities and $25 million for the Kennedy Center. She is the one who held up the package in the Senate for days to get the Green New Deal put in a recovery package. So, it’s the most shameful, disgusting thing I’ve heard yet, and it needs to stop.

I want my $25 million back Nancy.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts informed members of the National Symphony Orchestra that they would no longer be paid just hours after President Trump signed a $25 million taxpayer bailout for the cultural center, according to an email obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

Nearly 100 musicians will no longer receive paychecks after April 3, according to an email from the orchestra’s Covid-19 Advisory Committee.

“The Covid-19 Advisory Committee was broadsided today during our conversation with [Kennedy Center President] Deborah Rutter,” the email says. “Ms. Rutter abruptly informed us today that the last paycheck for all musicians and librarians will be April 3 and that we will not be paid again until the Center reopens.”

So why were they included in the relief bill at all? Yes, yes that is a rhetorical question.

The Kennedy Center did not return request for comment.

A veteran member of the orchestra, who requested anonymity for fear of reprisal, told the Washington Free Beacon that the decision “blindsided” musicians. The member welcomed the bailout package as necessary funding for the arts, but was stunned that it would not be used to cover payment for the artists.

“It’s very disappointing [that] they’re going to get that money and then drop us afterward,” the musician said. “The Kennedy Center blindsided us."

JAMES SAYS:
The Fauci video speaks for itself.

It certainly does NOT support Trump's attempts to dig himself out of what he dug himself into by claiming that we can immediately or even soon start opening up parts of the country that have fewer virus cases without running the risk of endangering THEIR populations as well.

Fauci makes that clear.

As diplomatically as he can put it, he says that there must FIRST be objective scientific and medical evidence that such an action would not lead to greater problems or even disasters.

Dr. Fauci makes it CLEAR that thus far there is not one single place in the USA where the curve has begun to flatten and the rates of infection and deaths have begun to decrease rather than increase. And until that happens, he says, it would be MOST unwise to loosen up on social distancing.

Or, as he also puts it, until we have the capability EFFECTIVELY TO TEST, WHICH WE DO NOT AT PRESENT HAVE, it would be unwise to do that.

You cannot confirm cases when nobody has tests for it.

The United States has administered 90% of their testing in the past week so. Most other countries are doing the same things.

Of course 90% of their "confirmed cases" will follow the same time period that they tested.

That doesn't mean that I am arguing that cases are not increasing.

But the CDC has been reporting new cases between 10-20K for the past several days.... today they reported that they had 444 new deaths from Saturday which was exactly two more than the 442 that they reported for Friday. So fortunately we have not seen the huge spike in deaths, and we are not seeing exponential growth (contrary to what some people are saying).

I strongly suspect that we will see these numbers continue to increase fairly consistent with how many people we are testing. That's just a mathematical certainty. You cannot "confirm" what you cannot test. The more tests you perform the more you will "confirm" cases.

What you need to watch for is an increase in the percentage of people testing positive (which would mean that more cases is likely more than just more tests). But as long as the positive/negative testing continues to remain fairly constant... the only true variable is the amount of tests.

Lastly... if you have been listening to the task force briefings, they are suggesting that the coronavirus will likely stick with us for at least the next two cold and flu seasons and even with vaccines it will likely infect and kill people (just as the flu does).

Fauci and Birx have both been looking at this in terms of what will happen over the next two year period, so take whatever they say in terms of "predictions" based on that fact.

Commonsense said...

It's been fairly consistent that of the the people tested 1 to 2% test positive.

And these are the people (according to CDC guidelines) most strongly suspected of having the coronavirus.

If you to truly randomize testing that number may drop.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

Washington Post live updates:
Confirmed cases of coronavirus worldwide passed 700,000 on Sunday, as countries warned the virus could disrupt lives for months, if not years.

In the United States, White House coronavirus task force member Anthony S. Fauci said the country could record 100,000 to 200,000 deaths and millions of infections, according to current but rapidly evolving projections.

Here are some significant developments:
=Deborah Birx, coordinator of the White House task force, offered a grim assessment: “No state, no metro area, will be spared.”
=The U.S. has reported more than 2,300 coronavirus-related deaths and 130,000 confirmed cases.
=Louisiana’s governor warned that his state’s health system is at risk of being overwhelmed with patients in a matter of days. Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo (D) said he believes his state’s death toll would eventually reach the “thousands.”
=Britain could take six months or more to return to “normal,” a health official said, while Japan is seeing a sudden acceleration in coronavirus cases.
=Moscow will enact a citywide quarantine starting Monday in Russia’s most restrictive coronavirus-related measure yet.
=Italy reported a slight decline in deaths on Sunday, with 756 dead in the past 24 hours, raising the country’s total to 10,799.
=War-ravaged Syria reported its first death.
=There are more than 33,000 covid-related fatalities worldwide.
=African countries need emergency economic stimulus now, U.N. commission says/ The worst of the coronavirus outbreak is two to three weeks away for Africa, and countries on the continent need an emergency influx of money to implement more preventive measures and strengthen weak health-care systems, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) told Bloomberg News.
=UNECA Executive Secretary Vera Songwe said a $100 billion emergency economic stimulus package is needed to allow countries to bolster hospitals and social safety nets while implementing social distancing policies that experts say can stave off the virus’s spread.
“If we want to have a fighting chance, we need it immediately,” she told Bloomberg. “In the next two to three weeks, if we act really decisively, we may be able to flatten the curve, and then when the storm comes, it will not be as brutal as we see in Europe.”
To help pay for the fund, Songwe called on multilateral institutions to waive interest payments for countries on the continent, which the commission estimated at $44 billion for 2020. Echoing calls from African finance ministers, she also suggested that interest payments for sovereign bonds be made available for countries to spend on addressing the pandemic. High rates of debt owed by many African countries to foreign institutions have in part impeded domestic investments in public services, health care included.
So far, there are more than 3,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in 46 African countries, according to the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
But experts are warning that the continent is facing acute medical shortages, including on average only 1.8 beds per 1,000 people, according to UNECA data.
“Our hospital systems are so weak and so stressed already that another stress on them is going to break them,” Songwe said.

--The article goes on and on and gets grimmer and grimmer.

FLORIDA CHURCH PACKED WITH WORSHIPERS
... Pastor Shuns Social Distancing
BREAKING NEWS

This is the clear and present danger ... people continuing to congregate -- squeezing into close quarters like sardines -- and that's exactly what happened Sunday at a Florida Church.

The River Church in Tampa was packed to the gills with worshipers who clearly were looking for hope. Pastor Rodney Howard-Browne, who presides over the megachurch and has been reportedly defiant over social distancing, has claimed he'll cure coronavirus just the way he did with Zika.

He has vowed he will never close his church ... despite every doctor and scientist saying social distancing is the only thing that will prevent the disease from spreading even more.

The Pastor boasted his place was white-glove clean, saying, “We brought in 13 machines that basically kill every virus in the place, and uh, if somebody walks through the door it’s like, it kills everything on them. If they sneeze, it shoots it down at like 100 mph. It'll neutralize it in split seconds. We have the most sterile building in, I don’t know, all of America.” [James' aside: Sounds a lot like Trump, doesn't he?]

Howard-Browne said on March 17, "We are not stopping anything. I've got news for you, this church will never close. The only time the church will close is when the Rapture is taking place.”

The Pastor has peddled ridiculous theories in the past, but this takes the cake. [That's part of the op ed, not my statement. The article continues:]

The scariest part ... all these people showed up elbow-to-elbow. If they contract the disease, they are the ones most likely to spread it, because they are clearly not practicing or understanding social distancing.

BTW ... Pastor Joel Osteen, who presides over the Lakewood Church in Houston, is doing virtual services to protect his congregation.

As for Howard-Browne ... well, faith is important, but seriously ... risking the health and safety of the people who come to worship ... really outrageous and irresponsible.

"Tim Russert would never ask a question like this. Even Joe Biden didn’t take the bait to assist in a viral moment attempt," The Hill media reporter Joe Concha said, referring to Todd's "Meet The Press" predecessor.

Concha added: "Chuck Todd served as a moderator of an NBC News debate on Feb 19, which was more than two weeks after President Trump suspended travel from China. Number of questions Todd asked any of the candidates about Coronavirus? Zero."

Todd served as a moderator at the two-hour MSNBC/NBC News Democratic debate last month, where there was no mention of the ongoing virus outbreak.

JAMES SAID:
OH REALLY?
You CAN decrease the number (volume) of people BEING infected each day week, month. year, etc. by "flattening the curve", as Dr. Fauci pointed out.

AND NOW I QUOTE:
__________________

Flattening the Coronavirus Curve

The longer it takes for coronavirus to spread the population, the more time hospitals have to prepare and thus limiting the damage of the coronavirus.

"A chart of Community Mitigation Guidelines to Prevent Pandemic Influenza, shows two epi curves.

"One with a steep peak indicating a surge of coronavirus outbreak in the NEAR term;
"the other with a flatter slope, indicating a more gradual rate of infection over a LONGER period of time.

"The gentler curve results in FEWER people infected at this critical moment in time — preventing a surge that would inundate the healthcare system and ultimately, one hopes, resulting in FEWER deaths."

“What we need to do is flatten that down,” said Dr. Anthony Fauci in a coronavirus task force briefing at the White House. “You do that with trying to interfere with the natural flow of the outbreak.”
_____________

JAMES SAYS:
So a flatter curve means a lesser number (volume) of cases wherever the curve is flatter.
How can anyone with the least smidgen of a brain fail to see that?

Commonsense said...

No, it's same volume is spread out over a longer time.

As I said this buys time and keeps healthcare system from being overloaded.

Drew Harris, a population health researcher at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, told NPR.org.

In Philadelphia,
city officials ignored warnings from infectious disease experts that the flu was already spreading in the community. The city instead moved forward with a massive parade that gathered hundreds of thousands of people together, Harris said.

"Within 48, 72 hours, thousands of people around the Philadelphia region started to die," Harris said. Ultimately, about 16,000 people from the city died in six months.

In St. Louis, meanwhile,
city officials quickly implemented social isolation strategies. The government closed schools, limited travel and encouraged personal hygiene and social distancing. As a result, the city saw just 2,000 deaths — one-eighth of the casualties in Philadelphia.

The city of St. Louis, now known for its towering Gateway Arch, had successfully flattened the curve.

So April 30th is the new date for whatever.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

stupid here is a picture you don’t change the number, it’s a constant under curve

So the people in St. Louis had just as many cases of infection as they would have had if they had done what the people in Philadelphia did?

Don't THINK so!

James have you obeyed the Stay at home order?

So a flatter curve means a lesser number (volume) of cases wherever the curve is flatter.

this is why i am convinced beyond the shadow of a doubt that you are a complete fucking moron...

take 10 deaths.

take 10 deaths over a week = pretty flat curve.

take 10 deaths over two days = curve not so flat.

you still had 10 deaths, pederast. the flatness of the curve is determined by the time frame in which they occurred.

The reason things are still going down hill

As Trump declared virus under control, local leaders faced confusion, chaos as cases piled up
Frustrated by the federal government’s handling of the outbreak, the authorities took steps on their own to protect their communities.

Trump's idiocy!!!!!!

Presidential candidate Comma

"“Yes they’re in a stockpile because that’s where they’re supposed to be because we don’t need them yet,” Cuomo said, according to the New York Post. “We need them for the apex. The apex isn’t here so we’re gathering them in the stockpile so when we need them they will be there.”
