Apparently the debate negotiation are still in question?
But astonishingly, even given how short it is, Biden’s team is now reportedly fighting for two breaks, one every thirty minutes, to which the Trump team has so far not agreed, according to Fox producer Pat Ward.
The Trump team is asking that both candidates be checked for earpieces before the debate. One would think that simply a normal procedure. But guess who isn’t agreeing to it, at least so far? You got it, Biden.
Have we ever had a Presidential debate that included "breaks". This is scheduled for 90 minutes and there are not even any scheduled commercial breaks. If a man cannot stand and answer questions for 90 minutes without getting tired and needing a physical break, then that man cannot be the leader of the free world.
Why on god's green earth would you refuse to be checked for earpieces. Lord knows that this only creates the illusion that you are in requirement of assistance and that you are willing to cheat to get it. That talking point alone is a big problem.

Joseph R. Biden Jr. released his 2019 tax returns on Tuesday, which show that he and his wife, Jill, had an adjusted gross income of $985,000 last year and paid federal income taxes of $288,000.
Mr. Biden released his latest tax returns hours before the first general election debate, and two days after The New York Times reported that President Trump paid only $750 in federal income taxes in 2016 and in 2017.
That was a tiny fraction of what the Bidens paid those years, according to tax returns they had previously made public. They paid $91,000 in federal income taxes in 2016, when they had an adjusted gross income of $396,000, and they paid $3.7 million in 2017, when their adjusted gross income was $11 million.
The following year, in 2018, they paid $1.5 million in federal income taxes and had an adjusted gross income of $4.6 million.
Mr. Biden’s release of his most recent tax return seemed timed to place even more focus on Mr. Trump’s taxes and keep him on the defensive about them going into the debate. Mr. Biden has now released returns covering the past 22 years. His running mate, Senator Kamala Harris of California, also released her 2019 tax returns on Tuesday, which come in addition to 15 years of returns she released last year.
“This is a historic level of transparency meant to give the American people faith, once again, that their leaders will look out for them and not their own bottom line,” Kate Bedingfield, a deputy campaign manager for Mr. Biden, said on a call with reporters.
Mr. Trump did not release his tax returns when he ran for president as the Republican nominee in 2016, breaking with modern tradition, and has refused to do so since then.
Mr. Biden had previously criticized Mr. Trump for not releasing his tax returns. And this week, the Biden campaign quickly sought to capitalize on the revelations about Mr. Trump’s taxes, releasing a video showing the federal income taxes paid by workers like teachers and firefighters and launching a “Trump tax calculator” where people can determine how much more they paid in federal income taxes than the president.

Trump Expected to Attack Biden’s Son
CNN reports President Trump “is preparing to go after Hunter Biden for getting lucrative jobs overseas when his father was vice president that he will say the younger Biden was not qualified for. Trump and his allies have repeatedly made unfounded and false claims to allege that the former vice president and his son acted corruptly in Ukraine.
“Their hope is that it knocks Biden off his game — either causing him to blow up or say something incorrect.
“Biden’s team has been working with him to be ready for Trump to go after his son in a way he hasn’t had to deal with as directly before. Trump advisers have also spent time working with the President to stay calm if Biden retaliates by invoking Trump’s daughter and son-in-law, both White House aides with no previous government experience. A source familiar with Biden’s prep, however, says his plan is to pivot away from this issue, not engage.”

Biden and Harris Release 2019 Tax Returns Hours Before Debate
Joe Biden and his running mate Sen. Kamala Harris released their 2019 federal and state tax returns, hours before the former vice president meets face-to-face with President Trump in the first debate of the 2020 presidential race, The Hill reports.

Joe Biden releases his 2019 tax returns
HuffPost US
Sep 29th 2020 1:50PM
Just hours before the first presidential debate of 2020, the campaign of Democratic nominee Joe Biden released his 2019 tax returns, showing a taxable income just shy of a million dollars.
Biden and his wife, Jill, paid $299,346 in taxes through the year on a taxable income of $944,737, after receiving a $46,858 refund, according to their 2019 federal tax returns.
His vice presidential running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris (Calif.), also posted her federal and California tax returns from 2019, showing she and her husband, Douglas Emhoff, had a taxable income of more than $3 million and paid $1,185,628 in taxes.
The releases from the Biden campaign come just days after The New York Times published records from President Donald Trump’s tax returns, showing he paid no federal income tax in 10 of the last 15 years, and paid only $750 in federal income taxes in the year he was elected president and in his first year in office.
Trump, despite promising to release his tax returns as a candidate, has repeatedly fought against making his financial records public, breaking with a 40-year precedent of candidates doing so. The Trump family has filed lawsuits against the House Oversight and Reform Committee and several banks to block subpoenas of their financial records.
In the end, it wasn’t House Democrats who got the records, but the press. The papers revealed that Trump paid zero in federal income taxes for many years, claiming his businesses had huge financial losses. He’s also in a fight with the Internal Revenue Service over an audit and could owe $100 million to the U.S. government. He has $421 million in debt, which has mostly been traced back to the German Deutsche Bank.
The Biden campaign has jumped on these revelations with digital ads, releasing a short video highlighting the different income taxes paid by those in the middle class.
“Teachers paid $7,239.
Firefighters paid $5,283.
Nurses paid $10,216,
Donald Trump paid $750,”
the Biden campaign’s message said.
They also released campaign merchandise with the slogan:
“I paid more income taxes than Donald Trump.”
Biden and his campaign have spent the summer trying to cast this election as the difference between the working class and the elite, highlighting Biden’s upbringing in the working-class town of Scranton, Pennsylvania, versus Trump’s Park Avenue residence in New York City.
The former vice president is expected to emphasize this contrast Tuesday night.
“Donald Trump only sees the world from Park Avenue,” Kate Bedingfield, Biden’s deputy campaign manager, told reporters Tuesday, foreshadowing the Democratic nominee’s strategy for the debate stage. “He looks out for the stock market but looks down on workers.”

The Trump administration on Monday asked Gov. Gavin Newsom to back down from the executive order he announced last week that would phase out the sale of gas-powered passenger vehicles by 2035, arguing California’s power grid can’t handle a surge in demand from battery-powered vehicles.
The letter, written by Environmental Protection Agency Chief Andrew Wheeler, also warned that California is unlikely to receive permission from the Republican administration to proceed with Newsom’s plan.
“California’s record of rolling blackouts – unprecedented in size and scope – coupled with recent requests to neighboring states for power begs the question of how you expect to run an electric car fleet that will come with significant increases in electricity demand, when you can’t even keep the lights on today,” Wheeler wrote.
Voter suppression is not going away because the President is a wannabe dictator
A database built by Cambridge Analytica, the Republican-aligned firm that unraveled over allegations of improper use of Facebook data, disproportionately identified Black voters as ripe for “Deterrence” in profiles prepared for Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign, according to a report Monday from Britain’s Channel 4 News.
The president’s reelection campaign called the segment “fake news,” and an aide who handled data in 2016 said the material went unused by the campaign.
Still, the evidence the British broadcaster says it has uncovered is likely to intensify concerns about voter suppression and the opportunities afforded by Facebook to narrowly segment and target portions of the electorate.
The material revives debates over the extent to which the voter profiles touted by Cambridge Analytica were actually used to sway the vote in 2016. The firm was founded in part by the Trump campaign’s onetime chief executive, Stephen K. Bannon, and collapsed in 2018 after news reports detailed its improper use of Facebook data in analyzing voters and other allegations of impropriety.
U.S. government issues stunning rebuke, historic $5 billion fine against Facebook for repeated privacy violations
The new cache of materials could add detail to allegations about Cambridge Analytica’s role in the campaign, particularly in efforts to harness Facebook’s powerful ad technologies to dissuade Black voters from supporting Hillary Clinton, the Democratic nominee. Four years later, turnout among similar communities may help decide the Nov. 3 contest.
The tactics described in the Channel 4 report are legal, and the sorting of voters into categories for the purposes of political messaging has been a routine — and all but unregulated — part of campaign tactics for years.
A database of nearly 200 million American voters, obtained by Channel 4, sorted likely Democratic voters into several categories, such as “Core Clinton” or “Disengaged Clinton.” The database put 3.5 million African Americans into a third category called “Deterrence,” in an apparent bid to single them out for messages designed to dissuade them from voting, the report said.
The file spanned 16 states, according to the news channel. In crucial battlegrounds, Black voters made up a disproportionate share of those marked for “Deterrence” — 17 percent in Wisconsin despite making up just 5.4 percent of voters, and 33 percent in Michigan while accounting for 15 percent of the voting population.
Read the materials from Cambridge Analytica
The margin in these states, which Trump won in 2016, was exceptionally narrow. Trump bested Clinton in Michigan by 11,000 votes. Meanwhile, Black turnout fell in Michigan and Wisconsin by more than 12 points, estimates suggest.
The database, in Channel 4′s telling, was “used by Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign” — an allegation the campaign denied.
“This machine was built in part by a team from the now-notorious company Cambridge Analytica, working hand in glove with a team from the Republican National Committee,” the segment further claimed. Channel 4 did not say how it had obtained the database.
Tim Murtaugh, a spokesman for Trump’s reelection campaign, dismissed the report as “fake news,” adding in a statement that Trump’s record gave him a “relationship of trust with African American voters.” The Republican National Committee, meanwhile, “has not seen the documents Tim Murtaugh described by the British broadcaster, said Paris Dennard, the party’s senior communications adviser for Black media affairs. He added, “that is not our data.”
Matt Braynard, who served as the Trump campaign’s data director in 2016, said his team did not use the categorizations featured in the report, relying instead on material from
Trump’s 2016 campaign paid Cambridge Analytica $5.9 million, according to Federal Election Commission data tallied by the Center for Responsive Politics.
Wisconsin state Sen. Lena Taylor, a Democrat from Milwaukee featured in the Channel 4 News report, called the revelations “shocking” in an interview with The Washington Post. “It just makes me feel disgusted what the president of the United States did to disenfranchise the citizens of our most important thing, which is our democracy.”
Bannon oversaw Cambridge Analytica’s collection of Facebook data, according to former employee
Cambridge Analytica’s former director of business development, Brittany Kaiser, called the new findings consistent with her understanding of how Cambridge Analytica and Republicans targeted Black voters in 2016. She provided an internal company document describing a similar sorting of Democrat voters into categories, including “Deterrent,” from that year.
The document also showed $55,000 spent in Georgia targeting African American voters with advertising, including the Clinton “Superpredator” video.
“This comes as no surprise,” said Kaiser, who did not work on the Trump campaign but received detailed briefings about it while still working for Cambridge Analytica. She wrote about the voter-suppression issues in her 2019 book “Targeted: The Cambridge Analytica Whistleblower’s Inside Story of How Big Data, Trump, and Facebook Broke Democracy and How It Can Happen Again.”
“I’ve been screaming my head off about this for years,” Kaiser said.
Brittany Kaiser’s work with Cambridge Analytica helped elect Donald Trump. She’s hoping the world will forgive her.
More than half of the voters the database marked for “Deterrence” messages were Black, Asian or Latino, with particularly high percentages in predominantly Black neighborhoods in key areas such as Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Florida, according to Channel 4 News. It quoted voters in predominantly Black areas of Milwaukee and elsewhere expressing frustration that they had been targeted in this way.
The Channel 4 report also showed evidence that the database sorted American voters into categories based on psychological analyses provided by Cambridge Analytica, using terms such as “Individualist,” “Thinker” and “Adventurer” as shorthand indicating what kind of political messaging might be most effective in reaching them.
David Carroll, an associate professor of media design at the New School in New York who has waged a multiyear battle to learn what information Cambridge Analytica had assembled on him, said he found the evidence of Republican voter suppression presented by the Channel 4 report “unambiguous.”
“At the minimum you have to admire it as a diabolically effective campaign tactic,” Carroll said. “They’re just using free speech, even if it is misleading.”
Former Cambridge Analytica workers say firm sent foreigners to advise U.S. campaigns
The Channel 4 report also criticized Facebook for its role in delivering ads designed to discourage voting in 2016 and for being the original source of information apparently used to help segment Americans into categories. Facebook has maintained that the information was improperly obtained, in violation of its policies.
“Since 2016, elections have changed and so has Facebook — what happened with Cambridge Analytica couldn’t happen today,” said Facebook spokesman Andy Stone. “We have 35,000 people working to ensure the integrity of our platform, created a political ads library to make political advertising more transparent than anywhere else, and have protected more than 200 elections worldwide. We also have rules prohibiting voter suppression and are running the largest voting information campaign in American history.”

Parscale Under Investigation for ‘Stealing’ Campaign Funds
“Donald Trump’s demoted campaign boss Brad Parscale is under investigation for ‘stealing’ between $25-$40 million from Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign,” the Daily Mail reports.
“The 44-year-old is also being investigated for ‘pocketing’ nearly another $10 million from the Republican National Committee.”
Meanwhile, Business Insider reports that “before Parscale’s meltdown on Sunday that landed him in police custody, his spending as a top Trump campaign official had been under scrutiny.
“It’s unclear whether a campaign-spending audit and scrutiny over his luxurious purchases precipitated Parscale’s latest troubles.”
WHY IS IT THAT THERE IS SO MUCH CORRUPTION AROUND DONALD TRUMP?
RHETORICAL QUESTION. THE ANSWER IS OBVIOUS.
FOR EXAMPLE, SEE THE FOLLOWING:
The World’s Biggest Con
Jonathan Chait:
“In the mid-1970s, the Trump family set out to sell the world on a character of its own creation: Donald J. Trump, dashing and brilliant business genius. The story’s protagonist was the child of multimillionaire developer Fred Trump, a son who had accomplished almost nothing in business, and whose taxable income was under $25,000. The trick was quite simple: young Donald would squire reporters around his father’s business empire and claim he had built it himself.
“In reality, Donald Trump was in the money-inheriting business…”
“The strategy was to convert Fred Trump’s fortune into publicity, which Donald could then monetize. The lies used to construct Trump’s image were massive.
"In 1984, Donald concocted a series of lies to persuade Forbes he was worth $900 million. Its reporter, Jonathan Greenberg, diligently unraveled every exaggeration and reduced the published sum to $100 million, only to discover decades later that the actual amount was a mere $5 million.
"The power of the lie was its scale.
Greenberg could imagine Trump was exaggerating his wealth tenfold, but the idea he was exaggerating it 180-fold beggared imagination.”
SO IT'S BEEN A LIE FROM THE GET-GO.
LYING IS WHAT DONALD'S WHOLE LIFE IS BASED ON.
Prove it
We have millions of unemployed and over 200,500 people are dead.
Biden might want to remind us.

Nick Akerman, who served on the prosecution team during the 1970s Watergate investigation, said Tuesday he believed President Trump would likely face tax fraud charges upon leaving the White House.
Akerman's comments came after The New York Times released a bombshell report on Sunday revealing a look into Trump's finances. The report stated that Trump was able to avoid paying taxes 10 of the 15 years preceding the 2016 election.
Tax avoidance.
I still think that if he loses the election, he might resign, get a pardon from President Pence like Nixon. But he can't pardon him from New York state investigation into tax fraud.

Biden has a lead in Georgia by 4% Quinnipiac university poll
Mr. Trump paid alternative minimum tax in seven years between 2000 and 2017 — a total of $24.3 million, excluding refunds he received after filing. For 2015, he paid $641,931, his first payment of any federal income tax since 2010.
As he settled into the Oval Office, his tax bills soon returned to form. His potential taxable income in 2016 and 2017 included $24.8 million in profits from sources related to his celebrity status and $56.4 million for the loans he did not repay. The dreaded alternative minimum tax would let his business losses erase only some of his liability.
Each time, he requested an extension to file his 1040; and each time, he made the required payment to the I.R.S. for income taxes he might owe — $1 million for 2016 and $4.2 million for 2017. But virtually all of that liability was washed away when he eventually filed, and most of the payments were rolled forward to cover potential taxes in future years.
To cancel out the tax bills, Mr. Trump made use of $9.7 million in business investment credits, at least some of which related to his renovation of the Old Post Office hotel, which qualified for a historic-preservation tax break. Although he had more than enough credits to owe no taxes at all, his accountants appear to have carved out an allowance for a small tax liability for both 2016 and 2017.
When they got to line 56, the one for income taxes due, the amount was the same each year: $750.

Top seven revelations from New York Times report on Trump income taxes
USA TODAY
The New York Times on Sunday published the first in a series of stories based on President Donald Trump's tax returns, citing tax documents and data spanning two decades.
The president dismissed the reports as "fake news" but demurred when asked if he would finally make his returns public. Trump is the first presidential candidate not to share his tax filings in four decades.
The bottom line from the Times report: Trump has had small federal tax bills and major financial losses during his business career, and some of his tax maneuvers have come under legal scrutiny.
Among The New York Times' findings:
1. Trump paid very little to no federal income taxes
In some years, Trump paid no taxes at all, thanks to business losses and write-offs that have come into question.
The Times: "Donald J. Trump paid $750 in federal income taxes the year he won the presidency. In his first year in the White House, he paid another $750. He had paid no income taxes at all in 10 of the previous 15 years – largely because he reported losing much more money than he made."
Trump taxes:Trump refuses to discuss returns after report he paid only $750 in income taxes in 2016 and 2017
2. Trump paid more to other countries than US
The Times: "In 2017, the president’s $750 contribution to the operations of the U.S. government was dwarfed by the $15,598 he or his companies paid in Panama, the $145,400 in India and the $156,824 in the Philippines."
3. Trump faces a crunch
The IRS audit could force Trump to pay a massive tax bill, on top of millions in personally guaranteed loan debts that are due soon.
The Times: "His finances are under stress, beset by losses and hundreds of millions of dollars in debt coming due that he has personally guaranteed. Also hanging over him is a decade-long audit battle with the Internal Revenue Service over the legitimacy of a $72.9 million tax refund that he claimed, and received, after declaring huge losses. An adverse ruling could cost him more than $100 million."
4. Trump claimed a $72.9 million refund
A decade ago, Trump claimed a $72.9 million refund, which is the prime subject of an IRS audit.
The Times: "In fact, confidential records show that starting in 2010 he claimed, and received, an income tax refund totaling $72.9 million – all the federal income tax he had paid for 2005 through 2008, plus interest. The legitimacy of that refund is at the center of the audit battle that he has long been waging, out of public view, with the I.R.S."
5. Trump wrote off up to $26 million in 'consulting fees'
The Times: "Examining the Trump Organization’s tax records, a curious pattern emerges: Between 2010 and 2018, Mr. Trump wrote off some $26 million in unexplained 'consulting fees' as a business expense across nearly all of his projects."
6. Trump paid high taxes other years because of AMT
The Times: The alternative minimum tax was "created as a tripwire to prevent wealthy people from using huge deductions, including business losses, to entirely wipe out their tax liabilities."
"Mr. Trump paid alternative minimum tax in seven years between 2000 and 2017 – a total of $24.3 million, excluding refunds he received after filing. For 2015, he paid $641,931, his first payment of any federal income tax since 2010."
7. Trump wrote off massive 'business expenses'
Trump deducted high operating costs from his various companies, such as the Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.
The Times: "As a business, (Mar-a-Lago) is also the source of millions of dollars in expenses deducted from taxable income, among them $109,433 for linens and silver and $197,829 for landscaping in 2017."

Trump's taxes tell a tale of debt and desperation
Opinion by Ed McCaffery
(CNN)The New York Times has broken a major story, based on access to decades of President Donald Trump's tax return data, just as they have in the past broken stories about the President's father, Fred Trump, and his aggressive tax planning, Donald Trump's billion-dollar tax losses in the late 80s and early 90s, and son-in-law Jared Kushner's years of apparent multimillion dollar federal tax avoidance. (A spokesman for Kushner's attorney has said that "Mr. Kushner properly filed and paid all taxes due under the law and regulations.")
The unifying theme here? Tax avoidance seems to be a family matter. Ordinary people -- like you and me and Democratic presidential nominee and former Vice President Joe Biden -- are not so fortunate.
The details of the new Times report paint a picture of a man using fairly standard tools of tax planning for the wealthy,
but to lavish extremes:
aggressively claiming business expense deductions for matters that look personal;
using huge losses generated from some businesses to get out of paying taxes on his wages from other businesses;
using debt heavily to get cash;
and putting the kids on the payroll.
This latter trick works with large "consulting fees" apparently paid to Ivanka Trump, the President's daughter -- an assessment the Times' based on cross-referencing of her and her father's returns.
Like father, like son, like son-in-law, like daughter; the Trumps are aggressive tax avoiders at best.
As with all of the Times' reporting on the Trump clan's tax history, the Sunday night data dump will prove to be a treasure trove for tax geeks and a confusing mass of dizzying detail for most of us. The Times itself indicates that it will follow up with further detailed articles, though its initial publication is already pretty heavy.
After the report published, the President called it "totally fake news," and "made up."
The Trump Organization's lawyer, Alan Garten, told the Times that "most, if not all, of the facts appear to be inaccurate" and claimed that Trump's paid "tens of millions of dollars in personal taxes to the federal government" over the past decade."
What has been revealed will be shocking to some, unsurprising to others by this point. It is also important to stress that we cannot tell whether there is any illegality involved: the reporters had access to Trump's tax return data, not necessarily to all of the supporting paperwork or, more importantly, the government's responses to Trump's tax reporting positions.
But beyond the minutiae of tax, the latest Trump data tells a far bigger and more important story. It tells a tale of desperation.
Trump emerges as a man living large, losing large, and constantly staying just one step ahead of his creditors.
His businesses lose money. This gives him tax losses but the need for cash to keep living large.
He gets lots of money -- some $300 million at least -- from borrowing. And Trump, the self-proclaimed King of Debt, knows that borrowing is not taxable income.
The upshot is that Trump's creditors may now include all of us. Trump may be found to owe the government $100 million or more in back taxes, penalties and interest.
Along with the debt, this makes Trump's tab coming due -- potentially hundreds of millions of dollars -- to say nothing of the ongoing expenses of his extravagant lifestyle.
The President has one major asset: his name.
Trump's race against time and his creditors, possibly including the tax collector (pending the results of his ongoing IRS audit), depends on his ability to keep borrowing against his name to pay off his debts and finance his lifestyle -- all until he dies and leaves the whole mess for his heirs to clean up.
Times reporting suggests that this game was nearly up for Trump before the 2016 election, and this may be why he ran for office: to boost the value of his brand, to keep the scheme going.
Lo and behold, Trump won the presidency in 2016, putting off his own personal day of reckoning. But for the whole time he has been living rent free in the White House, Trump has been a desperate man, facing massive debts and looking for someone else to pay them off.
In a twist of fate, the voters who gave Trump a financial reprieve can now make him face his own financial reckoning, on his own -- for once in his life.

Push of Conspiracy Theories Target Biden
“A conspiracy theory that Joe Biden would wear an electronic device in his ear during the first presidential debate went wildly viral Tuesday in the hours before the debate, and the theory was later amplified by mainstream conservative news outlets that claimed WITHOUT EVIDENCE that Biden had backed out of an ear ‘inspection,'” NBC News reports.
“The earpiece conspiracy theory is an example of what disinformation experts call ‘trading up the chain,’ where the sheer virality of a meme or conspiracy theory forces mainstream outlets to cover it, giving it a patina of credibility it otherwise would not have.”

How Biden wins tonight’s debate:
What he has to do to disrupt Trump
By WILL MARSHALL
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
Joe Biden’s job in tonight’s debate is actually very simple. It is to constantly remind viewers that Donald Trump isn’t what he claims to be, a radical outsider challenging a corrupt status quo. Trump is himself the swampy status quo in Washington. He’s an incumbent with a record to defend — and it’s indefensible.
As Bill Clinton likes to say, a presidential campaign is basically a job interview with the American people. Based solely on Trump’s job performance, voters should throw his own tagline back at him: “You’re fired.”
Trump excels at self-promotion, not producing actual results. The glimpse America has gotten at his tax records confirms that he is a clever tax evader (so far) and a lousy businessman. He loses more money than he makes and most of his branding ventures go belly up. Where are the Trump Steaks of yesterday?
But it doesn’t really matter, because Trump’s businesses are simply a means to an end: the glorification of Donald Trump. They provide a platform for Trump to impersonate a business tycoon. The fancy hotels and golf resorts, the now-bankrupt casinos and beauty pageants, the Playmates and private jets — it’s all for show.
Trump’s perverse genius lies in fabricating a loser’s idea of a winner. It’s no accident that his only recent money-maker was playing a capitalist buccaneer on TV.
Now the Trump Show has moved to Washington, where Trump is pretending to be president of the United States. Just as he lacks the patience and skill to effectively manage a business, he has zero interest in the details of governing.
What’s his second-term agenda?
The further feeding of Trump’s monstrous ego.
How do you debate a carnival barker who hogs the spotlight with a volcanic cascade of lies, abuse, bigotry and wild conspiracy theories? You don’t.
That’s why Biden needs to ignore Trump’s deceits and slurs tonight and instead focus relentlessly on the reality he can’t hide: his wretched performance as president.
In fact, Trump has mismanaged the Trump Organization’s latest acquisition — the White House — as badly as he has mismanaged his businesses. And whether they are entertained or appalled by Trump’s antics, Americans are stuck with the bill.
Biden should drive home tonight that Trump has failed abysmally to rise to the defining challenge of his presidency — the coronavirus pandemic...
Trump knows he doesn’t stand a chance if the November election is a referendum on his handling of the pandemic. With more than 209,000 deaths and 7.3 million infections, the United States is by far the world’s foremost victim of COVID-19. Many more Americans would be alive today and many fewer unemployed if the Trump administration had tackled the pandemic as competently as political leaders in other countries did.
Even now, after seven months of denying the severity of the virus and
attempting to shift blame to China,
or the nation’s governors,
or his political opponents,
Trump continues to play public relations games with the pandemic rather than mobilizing the national government to contain it.
The United States still lags in testing and has shockingly little contact tracing, which other countries have used effectively to limit economic and school shutdowns.
The administration also has been relentless in trying to bend science to fit Trump’s political need to dodge responsibility for the virus. His appointees have interfered with the Centers for Disease Control’s attempts to keep health professionals and the public informed about the pandemic’s course.
Trump himself has pressured the Food and Drug Administration to give the green light to coronavirus vaccines and treatments before they’ve been thoroughly tested.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration and Senate Republicans won’t cooperate with Democrats in forging a new COVID-19 relief bill. Without new legislation, millions of jobless workers stand to lose extended unemployment benefits by the end of the year.
State and local governments, whose property and sales revenues have dried up, urgently need an infusion of fiscal support — about $500 billion, according to calculations by my Progressive Policy Institute colleagues.
And the nation’s public schools need financial help to ensure they can supply quality remote or online learning to all children who can’t go back to their classrooms.
Instead, Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have given priority to fast-tracking the confirmation of a new Supreme Court justice before the election. What great national interest does this cynical exercise in court packing serve?
Trump makes no bones about the answer: To ensure he wins in November — even if he doesn’t.
“I think this will end up in the Supreme Court and I think it’s very important that we have nine justices,” he said recently.
Trump’s politicization of the Supreme Court shows he’s interested only in collecting “wins” for himself, not the American people. By putting Trump’s dismal failure to govern front and enter, Biden can score a knockout in tonight’s debate.
CDC Overruled on Cruise Ship Ban
“Robert Redfield, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, was overruled when he pushed to extend a ‘no-sail order’ on passenger cruises into next year,” Axios reports.
“Public health officials have privately complained that the thwarting of Redfield on the cruise ship ban is politically motivated because the industry is a major economic presence in Florida — a key battleground state where the polls are statistically tied.”

Doris "Dorie" Miller, U.S. Navy mess attendant 2nd class, became one of the first American heroes of World War II for his actions during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
U.S. Navy/National Archives
Military names can echo down through the ages, a fact underlined by the current fight in Washington, D.C., between President Trump and Congress, which has voted to strip the names of Confederate generals from several Southern Army bases.
The president has vowed that won't happen, but the battle might not be resolved before Election Day.
The Navy, meanwhile, has quietly charted a new course. A supercarrier now on the drawing boards will be christened the USS Doris Miller.
It's the first to be named for an enlisted sailor and the first to be named after an African American.
Most supercarriers are named for U.S. presidents — the USS John F. Kennedy. USS Ronald Reagan. USS Abraham Lincoln. Henry Kissinger called them "100,000 tons of diplomacy," and that power has long been reflected in the Navy's conventions for naming them.
Doris Miller, who went by "Dorie" in the Navy, was one of the first American heroes of World War II.
During the attack on Pearl Harbor, as his battleship, the USS West Virginia, was sinking, the powerfully built Miller, who was the ship's boxing champion, helped move his dying captain to better cover, then jumped behind a machine gun and shot at Japanese planes until his ammunition was gone.
Article continues after sponsor message
As a Black sailor in 1941, he wasn't supposed to fire a gun even. This means that when he reached for that weapon, he was taking on two enemies: the Japanese flyers and the pervasive discrimination in his own country.
"One of the ways in which the Navy discriminated against African Americans was that they limited them to certain types of jobs, or what we call 'ratings' in the Navy," said Regina Akers, a historian with the Naval History and Heritage Command. "So, for African Americans, many were messmen or stewards. Dorie Miller was a messman, which meant that he basically took care of an officer, laid out his clothes, shined his shoes and served meals."

U.S. Navy To Name Aircraft Carrier After WWII Hero Doris Miller
''He should be recognized and honored"
Akers said much of the attention at the time, and since, has been on Miller firing the anti-aircraft gun, which he wasn't even trained to do. In fact, it's a moment Hollywood briefly portrayed in several movies about the attack.
But Akers said what Miller did afterward is just as important: He began pulling injured sailors out of the burning, oil-covered water of the harbor, and was one of the last men to leave his ship as it sank, and continued getting sailors to safety afterward.
An official Navy commendation list of those whose actions during the attack stood out mentioned a Black sailor.
But it didn't bother to name Miller, a 22-year-old sharecropper's son from Waco, Texas.
"It made two lines in the newspapers," said Frank Bolden, who was a war correspondent for The Pittsburgh Courier, one of the leading Black newspapers of the day. He spoke in an interview with the Freedom Forum before his death in 2003.
"The Courier thought he should be recognized and honored. We sent not a reporter, we sent our executive editor to the naval department. They said we don't know the name of the messman. There are so many of them."

Only a fossilized bigot like you can't imagine that you can retain both military tradition and create whole new traditions at the same time.
Scott A**hole lied repeatedly
Biden did not wear an earpiece in CNN town hall video
Biden’s wardrobe and the CNN logo in the background indicate the photo was taken while Biden was speaking at CNN’s Sept. 17 town hall.
Videos of the town hall that CNN posted to YouTube show Biden's head and ear much clearer than the photo. He does not appear to be wearing an earpiece.
The part of Biden's ear the meme purports to be an earpiece is much more likely light reflecting off his skin. His ear canal is not visible due to the angle at which the photo was taken.
The shadow of Biden's ear canal is visible at 3:07, 4:33 and 6:48 into one clip CNN posted to YouTube, proving he was not wearing a flesh colored earpiece.
You support keeping Army Camps named after traitors who were Confederate officers.
Bigot
Fort Benning, Fort Hood those bases are over 100 years old. Hard to imagine them with any other name.
