Heads explode within the teacher's unions

CDC Makes The Case For Schools Reopening
Data from K-12 schools that reopened for in-person instruction in the fall show little evidence that schools contributed meaningfully to the spread of COVID-19, according to a new article published Tuesday in JAMA, the journal of the American Medical Association.

The overview from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, authored by three of its scientists, represents the clearest view yet of the facts behind what has become a heated debate over when and how schools should reopen.

Meanwhile, like 99% of all liberals.... teachers across the country REFUSE to listen to science and instead have been threatening strikes, refusing to go to work, and otherwise acting as if they are better than those people within the country that "are" currently working.

The CDC report says data from reopened classrooms show that "the type of rapid spread that was frequently observed in congregate living facilities or high-density worksites has not been reported in education settings in schools.
Meanwhile, evidence mounts of the social, emotional and academic toll remote learning has taken on children, especially in already vulnerable, low-income communities.

In other words, the teachers don't give a bigger rip about the students that they are looking to teach. There is no apparent risk of Covid, but there is a tangible negative effect for the Students who are distance learning. I should know, as I have a Senior in High School that is averaging about 7-8 on-line classes a week (and that is supposed to be full time). It's to the point where he barely has incentive to get up in the morning. He will have a class at 10:00 and then nothing till 1:30. Many times the meetings show full or the link won't work and it's a struggle even get logged in to "distance learn".

At the end of the day, liberals just refuse to listen to science.

Bonkers again and again and again and again and again and again

Your ex President has given us the worst economy for 74 years.

The U.S. economy shrank by 3.5 percent last year as the novel coronavirus upended American business and households, making 2020 the worst year for U.S. economic growth since 1946.

Economic growth slowed in the fourth quarter, rising just 1 percent from the previous quarter, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis. That’s equivalent to an annualized rate of 4 percent.

“The U.S. economy shrank by 3.5 percent last year as the novel coronavirus upended American business and households, making 2020 the worst year for U.S. economic growth since the depths of the Great Recession,” the Washington Post reports.

“This is the last GDP report from former president Donald Trump’s tenure. Until the pandemic, Trump was on track for an economic record that put him near the middle of the pack among recent presidents.* But the covid-19 crisis has ensured that he is likely to have overseen the slowest economic growth of any president in the period since the Second World War.

Well, it's certainly not all to be blamed on Trump, but it never was as great as he claimed (*).

HEALTH NEWSFact CheckedChildren May Be Silent Carriers of COVID-19

Written by the Healthline Editorial Team on September 2, 2020 — Fact checked by Jennifer Chesak

Share on PinterestResearches are learning how children with COVID-19 present symptoms of the disease. Getty Images

New research suggests children can transmit the virus even if they never show symptoms or after symptoms have resolved. It’s widely thought that kids are less likely to get the virus or become seriously ill from it because they have fewer immune receptors for SARS-CoV-2.The data showed kids can carry a higher level of the virus — and be more contagious — regardless of their receptor levels.

All data and statistics are based on publicly available data at the time of publication. Some information may be out of date. Visit our coronavirus hub and follow our live updates page for the most recent information on the COVID-19 pandemic.

As kids head back to school — whether remote, in-person, or both — a few studies are shedding more light on what we know about children and COVID-19.

This comes as more COVID-19 cases are being reported in children. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, in August there was a 17 percent increase in COVID-19 cases in just two weeks. The New York Times reported that since May COVID-19 cases in children were up more than 720 percent compared to just 270 percent for all Americans.

Kids still shed virus when asymptomatic

New commentary from doctors at Children’s National Hospital published in JAMA PediatricsTrusted Source suggests that children can transmit the virus even if they never show symptoms or after symptoms have resolved.

Researchers examined 91 children with COVID-19 from 22 hospitals and nonmedical isolation facilities throughout South Korea, testing them, on average, every 3 days.

Of them, 20 never developed symptoms, 47 had unrecognized symptoms before their diagnosis, and 18 did not have symptoms until approximately 2.5 days after diagnosis.

As a result, 42 percent of the children were asymptomatic at the time of diagnosis, and 47 percent of them were presymptomatic and later developed symptoms after about 2.5 days. The other children had no symptoms during their entire illness.

Researchers explained that “These data suggest that 93 percent of the children with COVID-19 could have been missed were it not for Korea’s intensive contact tracing and aggressive diagnostic testing.”

Children in South Korea stayed at hospitals or facilities until they tested negative, a practice that may be less common in the United States.

Symptom duration varied from about 3 days to 3 weeks, the study found. The virus was detectable for about 2.5 weeks in the entire group, but about one-fifth of the asymptomatic and about half of the symptomatic children were still shedding virus at 3 weeks.

Researchers weren’t sure if asymptomatic children were transmitting different quantities of virus than those with symptoms. The study only tested for shedding from the respiratory tract, but other research has found the virus in other bodily fluids.

(ii) ensure, in coordination with the Coordinator of the COVID-19 Response and Counselor to the President (COVID-19 Response Coordinator) and other relevant agencies, that COVID-19-related supplies the Secretary administers, including testing materials, are equitably allocated to elementary and secondary schools, child care providers, and Head Start programs to support in-person care and learning;

(iii) to the maximum extent possible, support the development and operation of contact tracing programs at the State, local, Tribal, and territorial level, by providing guidance and technical support to ensure that contact tracing is available to facilitate the reopening and safe operation of elementary and secondary schools, child care providers, Head Start programs, and institutions of higher education;

(iv) provide guidance needed for child care providers and Head Start programs for safely reopening and operating, including procedures for mitigation measures such as cleaning, masking, proper ventilation, and testing, as well as guidance related to meeting the needs of children, families, and staff who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, including trauma-informed care, behavioral and mental health support, and family support, as appropriate; and

(v) provide technical assistance to States, localities, Tribes, and territories to support the accelerated distribution of Federal COVID-19 relief funds to child care providers, and identify strategies to help child care providers safely remain open during the pandemic and beyond while the sector experiences widespread financial disruption due to increased costs and less revenue.

(c) The Secretary of Education and the Secretary of Health and Human Services shall submit a report to the Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy and the COVID-19 Response Coordinator identifying strategies to address the impact of COVID-19 on educational outcomes, especially along racial and socioeconomic lines, and shall share those strategies with State, local, Tribal, and territorial officials. The AAP has updated its interim guidance on measures schools can take during the COVID-19 pandemic to conduct classes safely in person, which is critical to students’ well-being.

“Children absolutely need to return to in-school learning for their healthy development and well-being, and so safety in schools and in the community must be a priority,” AAP President Lee Savio Beers, M.D., FAAP, said in a news release. “We know that some children are really suffering without the support of in-person classroom experiences or adequate technology at home. We need governments at the state and federal levels to prioritize funding the needed safety accommodations, such as improving ventilation systems and providing personal protective equipment for teachers and staff.”

The school guidance, which is available at https://bit.ly/2BMPtW5, is one of two guidance documents that were updated today. The other addresses emotional and behavioral health during the pandemic.

Once the COVID-19 vaccine is available to children, students in Los Angeles will need to be vaccinated before returning to campus. Austin Boytner said on Monday.

However, he did not suggest that the campus would remain closed until the vaccine was available. Instead, he said, the state needs to set standards for reopening schools, explain the reasons behind the standards, and demand that campuses be opened when these standards are met. It was.

The requirements for the COVID-19 vaccine are “no different from students vaccinated against measles and mumps,” he said in a pre-recorded briefing. He also compared students, staff, and others who were vaccinated with COVID-19 to “people who were tested for tuberculosis before coming to campus.” This is the best way to keep everyone on campus safe. ”

On Monday, county officials said the vaccine could be available to teachers and other essential workers who will be part of the next phase of vaccination. These shots can start in early February if there is sufficient dose.

However, student vaccinations are probably months ahead. To date, the two vaccines that have received an emergency use authorization from the Food and Drug Administration have been tested almost exclusively in adults. Shot clinical trials conducted by Pfizer and BioNTech included 153 people aged 16 and 17, and some experts who reviewed FDA data could determine if they were safe for that age. For younger children, as well as groups who said they didn’t have enough teens.

Children and young adults are also at low risk of severe cases of COVID-19 and may be vaccinated last.

After the staff were vaccinated, Boytner said he hoped all students would be vaccinated “by this time next year.”

Family members who do not want their children to be vaccinated “do not have to go back to campus because they always have the option to continue learning online,” Beutner said.

Some teachers’ union leaders require teachers to remain closed until they are vaccinated or the level of infection drops dramatically.

LA Unified released alarming data from its internal testing program last week. Almost one in three asymptomatic students in some low-income communities who sought a coronavirus test on a district-operated site during the week of December 14 was found to be infected. At the time of testing, the children reported that they did not feel the effects of COVID-19. Asymptomatic carriers can still spread the virus to others and may develop symptoms later.

Vaccines protect teachers, but infected children can transmit the virus among themselves, even if there are no signs of illness. It is also possible that a vaccinated teacher (protected) can bring the virus back to members of an unvaccinated household.

(Since the schools didn’t conduct regular random testing, the study notes that it is “unable to rule out asymptomatic transmission within the school setting.”)

The three CDC researchers concluded in this opinion piece published in the Journal of the American Medical Association that “the preponderance of available evidence from the fall school semester has been reassuring insofar as the type of rapid spread that was frequently observed [elsewhere] has not been reported in education settings.”
