What's good for the goose is good for the gander!

Judge Blocks Biden’s Freeze On Deportations
A federal judge in Texas temporarily blocked the Biden administration’s 100-day deportation moratorium on Tuesday, stalling the administration’s early immigration reform goals.
The freeze, an executive order signed by President Biden alongside a stack of other first-day executive orders, was blocked by US District Judge Drew B. Tipton of the Southern District of Texas…
Tipton argued that Texas had proven, “that it pays millions of dollars annually to provide social services and uncompensated healthcare expenses and other state-provided benefits to illegal aliens such as the Emergency Medicaid program, the Family Violence Program, and the Texas Children’s Health Insurance Program.”

I certainly hope that the Judge in question was a Trump appointee! It would certainly be nice to see what comes around go around. That being said, President Obama had plenty of executive orders shot down by the court, that were shot down for legitimate reasons and shot down for good. Perhaps Biden is also overstepping.

But for four years, these liberal Obama appointed Judges did little more than stall Presidential orders and even laws, inevitably being overturned at higher court levels. Sometimes the same groups would see their lawsuits rejected by higher courts, only to turn around and refile them under slightly different pretenses in different jurisdictions, just to get another liberal district court Judge to provide them with another injunction that was sure to be overturned. It was the political and legal game of whack a mole.

Speaking of executive orders.

Biden-Harris Administration Commits on Climate Change – Creating Jobs, Building Infrastructure, and Delivering Environmental Justice

Today, President Biden will take executive action to tackle the climate crisis at home and abroad while creating good-paying union jobs and equitable clean energy future, building modern and sustainable infrastructure, restoring scientific integrity and evidence-based policymaking across the federal government, and re-establishing the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.

These Executive Orders follow through on President Biden’s promise to take aggressive action to tackle climate change and build on the executive actions that the President took on his first day in office, including rejoining the Paris Agreement and immediate review of harmful rollbacks of standards that protect our air, water, and communities.

President Biden set ambitious goals that will ensure America and the world can meet the urgent demands of the climate crisis, while empowering American workers and businesses to lead a clean energy revolution that achieves a carbon pollution-free power sector by 2035 and puts the United States on an irreversible path to a net-zero economy by 2050. Today’s actions advance those goals and ensure that we are tapping into the talent, grit, and innovation of American workers, revitalizing the U.S. energy sector, conserving our natural resources and leveraging them to help drive our nation toward a clean energy future, creating well-paying jobs with the opportunity to join a union, and delivering justice for communities who have been subjected to environmental harm.

President Biden will also sign an important Presidential Memorandum on scientific integrity to send a clear message that the Biden-Harris Administration will protect scientists from political interference and ensure they can think, research, and speak freely to provide valuable information and insights to the American people. Additionally, and in line with the scientific-integrity memorandum’s charge to reestablish scientific advisory committees, President Biden will sign an Executive Order re-establishing the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.

This is a toned down FDR job creation plan.

Biden Rushes to Oust Trump Loyalists
"AT A BLISTERING PACE"

1:56 pm
“When President Biden swore in a batch of recruits for his new administration in a teleconferenced ceremony late last week, it looked like the country’s biggest Zoom call. In fact, Mr. Biden was installing roughly 1,000 high-level officials in about a quarter of all of the available political appointee jobs in the federal government,” the New York Times reports.

“At the same time, a far less visible transition was taking place: the quiet dismissal of holdovers from the Trump administration, who have been asked to clean out their offices immediately, whatever the eventual legal consequences.

“If there has been a single defining feature of the first week of the Biden administration, it has been the blistering pace at which the new president has put his mark on what President Donald J. Trump dismissed as the hostile ‘Deep State’ and tried so hard to dismantle.”

GOOD OLE JOE "BLISTERING PACE" BIDEN

100 seconds till midnight.

An insufficient response to an increasingly threatened climate.

In the past year, some countries have taken action to combat climate change, but others—including the United States, which formalized its withdrawal from the Paris Agreement, and Brazil, which dismantled policies that had protected the Amazon rainforest—have taken major steps backward. The highly anticipated UN Climate Action Summit in September fell far short of Secretary General António Guterres’ request that countries come not with “beautiful speeches, but with concrete plans.” The 60 or so countries that have committed (in more or less vague terms) to net zero emissions of carbon dioxide account for just 11 percent of global emissions. The UN climate conference in Madrid similarly disappointed. The countries involved in negotiations there barely reached an agreement, and the result was little more than a weak nudge, asking countries to consider further curbing their emissions. The agreement made no advances in providing further support to poorer countries to cut emissions and deal with increasingly damaging climate impacts.

Lip service continued, with some governments now echoing many scientists’ use of the term “climate emergency.” But the policies and actions that governments proposed were hardly commensurate to an emergency. Exploration and exploitation of fossil fuels continues to grow. A recent UN report finds that global governmental support and private sector investment have put fossil fuels on course to be over-produced at more than twice the level needed to meet the emissions-reduction goals set out in Paris.

Unsurprisingly, these continuing trends are reflected in our atmosphere and environment: Greenhouse gas emissions rose again over the past year, taking both annual emissions and atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases to record highs. The world is heading in the opposite direction from the clear demands of climate science and plain arithmetic: Net carbon dioxide emissions need to go down to zero if the world is to stop the continuing buildup of greenhouse gases. World emissions are going in the wrong direction.

The consequences of climate change in the lives of people around the world have been striking and tragic. India was ravaged in 2019 both by record-breaking heat waves and record-breaking floods, each taking a heavy toll on human lives. Wildfires from the Arctic to Australia, and many regions in between, have erupted with a frequency, intensity, extent, and duration that further degrade ecosystems and endanger people. It is not good news when wildfires spring up simultaneously in both the northern and southern hemispheres, making the notion of a limited “fire season” increasingly a thing of the past.

The dramatic effects of a changing climate, alongside the glacial progress of government responses, have unsurprisingly led to rising concern and anger among growing numbers of people. Climate change has catalyzed a wave of youth engagement, activism, and protest that seems akin to the mobilization triggered by nuclear disaster and nuclear weapons fears in the 1970s and 1980s. Politicians are taking notice, and, in some cases, starting to propose policies scaled to the urgency and magnitude of the climate problem. We hope that public support for strong climate policies will continue to spread, corporations will accelerate their investments in low-carbon technologies, the price of renewable energy will continue to decline, and politicians will take action. We also hope that these developments will happen rapidly enough to lead to the major transformation that is needed to check climate change.

But the actions of many world leaders continue to increase global risk, at a time when the opposite is urgently needed.

President Biden is listening to the scientists, not his own mind, like Trump.

Newly confirmed Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived at State Department headquarters on Wednesday morning. “It’s a new day for America. It’s a new day for the world,” he told his employees. Because of covid-19 restrictions, he was not able to enjoy the traditional scene in the open atrium of staffers crammed cheek-to-jowl; nevertheless, one could feel his intense delight at his homecoming to a department where he began his career nearly 30 years earlier.

In a tour de force of understatement, Blinken said the department was not the same as the one he left as deputy secretary four years ago. He avoided delineating the changes, but anyone following U.S. foreign policy can attest to the differences — none of them positive.

The United States is less respected and less trusted globally. Russia and China are gaining in their ideological battle against Western democracies. Our alliances are frayed. Iran has broken out of the limits on uranium enrichment imposed by the nuclear deal from which the last administration exited. Two preceding secretaries of state chased away veteran diplomats with years of institutional memory, tried to slash budgets, ignored Foreign Service and career service personnel, politicized the department to a degree not seen in recent memory, and pursued an arrogant and incoherent “America First” policy that left allies scratching their heads and foes licking their chops.

To a demoralized and anxious department, Blinken must seem like a liberator, if not a soothing counselor. He candidly acknowledged his job was to begin “rebuilding morale and trust” and to create a diverse and inclusive workforce. He added, “We cannot do our job of advancing America’s interests, values and commitment to democracy without a State Department that is truly representative of the American people.” In a demonstration of humility absent in the past four years, he vowed to operate with an “open door and an open mind.” After years of functioning like the disfavored stepchild in an administration that sneered at its work, the State Department could be certain that it will be valued once again. “I will have your back,” Blinken promised.
Highlighting the 180-degree shift from the previous administration, Blinken told his department that the world is “intently” watching what they do, waiting to see whether America will lead. He emphasized, “America’s leadership is needed around the world, and we will provide it, because the world is far more likely to solve problems and meet challenges when the United States is there.” He continued, ”America at its best still has a greater capacity than any other country on Earth to mobilize others for the greater good.”

That is the great tragedy and irony of “America First”: isolationist philosophy Retreating does not alleviate the United States of threats and challenges; it makes the world more chaotic, dangerous and unstable. Allies are not a burden, but rather, an asset and a source of strength.

Watching Blinken, one could sense something that had been entirely missing since the end of the Obama administration: a secretary with genuine affection and appreciation for the nonpolitical personnel he will lead. Indeed, across the Biden administration, we now see a team that enjoys governance, knows how to move the levers of power and prides itself on competence. No wonder everything about this administration seems so different.

it's the hook for BLM and the fraud that is systemic racism. it's the hook for the ransom that the fortune 500 has paid to the urban league and sharpton's national action network.

it's the foundation for the cottage industry that has sprung up thanks to assholes like ta-ha-ha sneezy coats and ibrahim malcom kendi x.

look alky, not long ago when Eliot 'Client #9' Spitzer was my governor, he was hell bent on providing drivers licenses to illegals. it was met with overwhelming and vociferous opposition, with the Siena poll tracking 70+% AGAINST. so you would have us believe that 70+% of NY'ers are racist? no, of course not. when asked, respondents were fine with LEGAL immigration; it was ILLEGAL immigration that no one wanted rewarded.

at some point you assholes will overplay the racism charge like the boy who cried wolf. instead of it being met with fear and trembling hands reaching for their checkbook to pay the ransom for their reputation, it's going to be met with at least and eye-roll, and preferably a punch in the fucking face.

Incompetent and again racially motivated distribution of the vaccine.

White Americans are receiving the coronavirus vaccine at a higher rate than Black and Latino populations, a new analysis has found, underscoring how minority communities continue to be disproportionately hit by the ongoing pandemic.

According to a new analysis from CNN that reviewed racial health data from 14 states, more than 4 percent of white people have been administered the vaccine, compared to just 1.9 percent of Black Americans and 1.8 percent of Hispanic Americans.

CNN reports that in some states, the number of white people who have received vaccines is greater than the number who have been diagnosed with COVID-19, while the opposite could be said of Black and Latino populations.

In Pennsylvania, just 3 percent of Black residents have received vaccines, despite African Americans accounting for 13 percent of deaths linked to the disease these. The white population of Pennsylvania was found to have received vaccines at roughly quadruple the rate of their Black counterparts.

I couldn’t have blamed Anthony Fauci if at any point over the past year he’d told Donald Trump he’d had enough, thank you, and quit. Everyone has a breaking point. There was the time the former president called him “a disaster” on a call with Trump-campaign staff. Or the day a White House official gave reporters an oppo-research-style memo claiming that Fauci had been “wrong on things” related to COVID-19. And Trump’s retweet of “Time to #FireFauci” would have been one humiliation too many for most.

But in the end, Trump got fired, and Fauci got promoted—he’s now the chief medical adviser to the Biden White House. “The thing that got me through it was, I did not let that bother me,” Fauci told me in an interview this week. “People cannot believe that. But it’s true. The problem is so enormous. People’s lives are at stake. I’m a physician. I’m a scientist. I’m a public-health expert. I know what I need to do. All that other stuff is just a distraction. Quite frankly, it’s bullshit.”

McCarthy Urges Republicans to Stop Attacking Each Other
7:47 pm
“House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy on Wednesday implored Republicans to stop publicly attacking each other amid GOP infighting over the deadly Jan. 6 Capitol riots, which has created simmering tensions inside the conference,” Politico reports.

“During a private conference call, McCarthy told members that they should be spending more time countering the Biden agenda than chastising each other, adding he would no longer have any tolerance for such behavior…
McCarthy also reminded House Republicans that they will have an opportunity to air their grievances during a closed-door meeting in the Capitol next week, where a conservative-led push to oust Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) over her vote to impeach President Donald Trump is expected to come to a head.”

GO ON PERPETUATING THE LIE THAT NO ONE WHO HAS ANY SENSE BELIEVES!

“A top official at the National Republican Congressional Committee abruptly decided to resign earlier this month after House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy and nearly 150 GOP lawmakers voted against certifying the Electoral College results, CNN has learned, in the latest sign of the civil war brewing inside the Republican Party as it seeks to rebuild in the post-Trump era.”

when a liberal is losing a debate they always default to one of two positions -

1) make it about race/racism

2) the person they're debating is Hitler.

of course the most vulnerable should be first. only an imbecile like the alky, Cuomo, or *Biden want to make it about race.

YAMHILL, Ore. — This is an open letter to some of my old friends and neighbors who believe that Donald Trump won re-election, who think that face masks are for wimps and who fear that Democrats are plotting to seize their freedom.

Dear friends and neighbors,

Relax! We liberals aren’t plotting to round you up in “re-education camps.”

I was horrified when a couple of old friends here asked if they were in danger for having supported Donald Trump. I gently told them that they were in no peril — and I was stung that they felt greatly relieved to hear it.

Yes, I know that Fox News is peddling nonsense about Democrats setting up re-education camps, and that a Wall Street Journal column asked, “If you were an enthusiastic Donald Trump supporter, are you ready to enter a re-education program?”

Folks, you’re being played. Again.

These are some of the same charlatans who argued last year that, as Fox News put it, the coronavirus is “just like the flu” and that mask mandates are a step toward “tyranny.” More than 400,000 coronavirus deaths later, some people are dead because they believed that drivel.

Then there’s the rubbish about the election. This month, just days before Joe Biden’s inauguration, a childhood friend told me confidently that Trump would swoop in to serve a second term. When I told him he was wrong, he was astonished that I could be so poorly informed, and he helpfully advised, “Don’t pay attention to those liars in the mainstream media.”

You’ve been hoodwinked, exploited and manipulated by con artists waving flags, casting lies and monetizing bigotry. Steve Bannon, who suggested beheading Dr. Anthony Fauci, defrauded Trump supporters into donating to build a border wall and then used some of the money for himself, according to a federal indictment.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Here on our family farm, we received a direct mail appeal warning about “Islam in Yamhill Schools” and pleading for donations to protect Christianity. No, that isn’t about conservative values, but about spreading hate and hysteria while grabbing at your wallet.

So let’s give America a chance to heal. And, as I told my worried friends, don’t hesitate to stand up for your conservative values. We need Republicans! America benefits from a loyal opposition.

For example, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention this week called for trying harder to keep schools open. On that issue, Republicans have been more right than many Democrats.

But half a century ago we didn’t need the racist George Wallace wing of the Democratic Party, and today we don’t need the wing of the Republican Party that embraces conspiracy theories and winks at violence.

The grand question: Without that wing of today’s G.O.P., what’s left?

One glimpse of the conundrum: The G.O.P. representation in Congress is losing Rob Portman, a widely respected senator who announced he will step down, and just gained Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, an extremist who in 2019 endorsed the idea of shooting Nancy Pelosi in the head. When a party loses a statesman and gains a kook, that’s a bad omen.

Meanwhile, the Hawaii G.O.P. this week recommended the “high quality” commentary … of a Holocaust denier. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich warned on Fox News that Democrats are trying to “exterminate the Republicans.” Sure, Democrats sometimes say and do dumb things, too, but there’s no symmetry.

As I see it, the last, best hope is twofold. First, Republican leaders must learn that extremism is a losing strategy. Only one G.O.P. candidate for president has won the popular vote in the last three decades, and the loony Arizona Republican Party has lost about 10,000 members since the riot in the U.S. Capitol and its censure of party elders like Cindy McCain. If Trump is further discredited through prosecutions or scandals, it is possible (though far from certain) that his malign influence on the party will diminish.

Second, to dampen that extremism, advertisers should stop supporting networks that spread lies and hatred, and cable companies should drop channels that persist in doing so. As a start, don’t force people to subsidize Fox News by including it in basic packages.

Is this a slippery slope? Yes, and it makes me queasy. But we all recognize that there are red lines: Neo-Nazis and Ku Klux Klan grand wizards have First Amendment rights, but we shouldn’t pay to give them microphones, nor should commentators on the left or the right get megaphones to promote violence. Extremists enjoy free speech but shouldn’t be buttressed by advertisers or our cable fees.

So, conservative friends, fear not: We’re not plotting to lock you up in detention camps. We need you to keep us honest. But you’ve been scammed in ways that have hurt the country we all love. Hold us accountable, but please do the same for the charlatans who deceive you, use you and cheat you.

The Republicans face a tough battle against Trump

He won in 2016 because enough of the QAnon movement and the other terrorists who were motivated by Trump to vote for Trump.

But the fact is that the Republican party is the minority party. Without Greene and the other whack job conspiracy theorists, they can't regain the Congress or the Presidency for a decade or two.

If the moderate conservative separate themselves, they know what it means.

They need the rrb wing nutcases to win.

If President Biden gets the pandemic stopped by the fall and the economy reaches record levels of growth, good bye the party of Abraham Lincoln.

LOL.

you have a vaccine thanks to Trump.

*Biden has little or nothing to do with it at this point. the virus and accompanying vaccination program needs to run it's course.

and as far as the economy goes, the only 'record levels' *Biden is on track to reach are record levels of unemployment, yeah those 'good UNION jobs' you demand, accompanied with higher gas prices, higher prescription drug prices, and a sinking GDP as a result.

centrally planned economies NEVER fucking work. EVER.

and as far as all the green nude eel shit is concerned, if there truly was any big $$$ to be made in that area, the private sector would've been all fucking over it already.

so thanks for starting out my day with your display of two things you know absolutely nothing about -

conservatism and the economy.

rrb said...

You surely all have tiny tyrants in your areas. Judges who rule against the constitution, cops who defend them even after the left has called for defunding cops for months, politicians trying to raise your taxes and infringe on your rights.

New York City restaurants issued a blanket declaration that Governor Cuomo will not be served. That’s a good start. Now extend it to every politician that’s expressed support for lockdowns, higher taxes, more regulation, or has been seen violating the restrictions that they’ve demanded you live under. Do it.

Shun them. Deny them services, or charge them three times the normal price- in cash and up front. If you’re tasked with infrastructure work in their strongholds, their precious gated communities, delay the work and do it badly. Make the work cost as much as possible. Be rude to them, and make their lives unpleasant in every possible way. Be petty, and be vicious toward them. Become a nameless, faceless army of inconvenience and never-ending expense.

They do that to us. And they’d do worse if they could.

Agitate against them and start agreeing with Antifa and BLM that those rich people in their gated communities are the problem, and they deserve to be held accountable. We’ve already seen how their revolutionary talk turns into shrill shrieking when the mob comes for them. Don’t defend them, not even verbally. Turn those gated communities into prisons that they don’t feel safe leaving and can’t get services into without great expense and inconvenience. Bleed them dry, demoralize them, and isolate them.

They will surely use the power of the courts they own to try to suppress you. They will surely try to make examples out of people. Demand a jury, every time. If you get called for a jury, show up and lie like hell about your political beliefs during jury selection. Make sure you get onto the jury. If it’s a civil case against someone of any political stripe making life unpleasant for political activists or politicians, agitate the jury to nullify and award court fees to the defendant. Juries do have that power, and we’ve allowed them to pack the juries for too long. When the judge overturns the jury’s ruling, turn your wrath onto the judge. Start petitions for recall them, shun them, deny them service, and make their lives a living hell.

If you find out a business is selectively screwing over the gilded elite, patronize them. Spread the idea of screwing the left over like a rumor. Invisible, everywhere, and a force of nature. Remind people of how much power they really have. Remind people of the plans the clueless left have for them.

The ones trying to break us can only do it if we let them, and they can’t really do a damned thing to force us to make their lives easy. Everyone can fight them this way, even if only by being rude to those who would be their betters.

Who is John Galt? We all are. We run the world that keeps them in comfort while they try to ruin us and destroy civilization. We can collectively stop the machine of their worlds. The people they’re after are the ones they rely on. Start making them see how little power they really have, and take back your power.

Make it Galt’s Gulch everywhere!

Hi there. I’m Sarah A. Hoyt. I am a novelist with (I think) twenty three novels out. There might be more, as I haven’t counted recently. I could tell you what genres I write in, but that is liable to change on very short notice.

So far I haven’t written pure romance, hard sci fi or man’s adventure. However my unofficial motto is “no genre is safe from me.” To find out more about what I’ve done to various innocent tropes and subgenres, look under “my books.” Unfortunately my webpage is down right now because younger son was working on it and then something happened.

Biden halts UAE F-35 sale in nod to Iran

US President Joe Biden has halted the sale of F-35 stealth jets to the UAE, even though they were promised as part of the Abraham Accords.

The new administration has raised concerns the UAE might use these jets against the rebel Houthis in Yemen. The Houthis have no air force and only rudimentary air defenses. The UAE has a decently-sized air force made up of 77 F-16s and 63 Mirage 2000s.

The UAE operates with Saudi Arabian air assets against the Houthi insurgency in Yemen. Saudi Arabia has 42 F-15s , 74 light attack F-5s and 44 Tornado fighters.

There have been a number of previous incidents where the Saudis and UAE have allegedly hit civilian targets, either on purpose or by accident.
