We can sum up the President's first press conference with these!

We know he is old and senile, but....

So far nobody has explained exactly who Jim Eagle is... much less how these proposals look like Jim Crow? I am guessing Jim Eagle will top the Google, Yahoo, and Bing search counts for the next couple of days.

Oh and who knows if there will even be Republican Party in four years?
Certainly not Demenia Joe.

The Wall RINO Wall Street Journal

The filibuster’s future.

Mr. Biden suggested again that he is open to changing the filibuster, saying the tactic is currently being “abused in a gigantic way” in the Senate.

The chamber is split 50-50 with Vice President Kamala Harris able to break ties. Some Democrats have argued for changing the rules that require 60 votes to advance most legislation, known as the filibuster, to pass bills on issues like voting rights and gun control. But the party is shy of the 51 votes needed to eliminate the filibuster.

Mr. Biden repeated his support for bringing back a requirement that senators must be present and talking on the floor to block bills, saying that it used to be that you had to stand and “talk and talk and talk and talk until you collapsed.”

But he also said that he has an “open mind about dealing with certain things that are just elemental to the functioning of our democracy, like the right to vote.” And he concluded: “If there’s complete lockdown and chaos as a consequence of the filibuster, then we’ll have to go beyond what I’m talking about.”

Asked whether he agreed with former President Barack Obama’s description of the filibuster as a “Jim Crow relic,” Mr. Biden said yes, but added that “successful electoral politics is the art of the possible.”

“Let’s figure out how we can get this done and move in the direction of significantly changing the abuse of the filibuster rule first,” he said.

They didn't mention "Jim Eagle "

How will people adjust to these significant changes in science and technology and the environment? How will they do that? Our democracy is equipped, because all of the people get to speak, to compete. . . . This is a battle between the utility of democracies in the twenty-first century and autocracies. . . . The problem is that the conservative majority on the U.S. Supreme Court changed the traditional interpretation of the Second Amendment -- and decided that despite the "militia" language, it guarantees an individual right to keep and bear arms. However: The court, including even Scalia, made clear that reasonable gun control laws are permissible. We can have background checks and an assault weapons ban. Republicans just refuse to even consider those measures. Another argument against the filibuster...

Unedited transcript unlike Twitter tirade distortion.

Thank you, Mr. President. You mentioned your progress on COVID-19. I’d like to ask you about some of the other issues facing your Presidency. One of the defining challenges you face in the coming months is how to deliver on your promise to Americans on issues like immigration reform, gun control, voting rights, climate change. All of those right now are facing stiff united opposition from Republicans on Capitol Hill. How far are you willing to go to achieve those promises that you made to the American people?

Joe Biden: (05:12)
Well, look, when I took office, I decided that it was a fairly basic simple proposition, and that is, I got elected to solve problems and the most urgent problem facing the American people I stated from the outset was COVID-19 and the economic dislocation for millions and millions of Americans. And so that’s why I put all my focus in the beginning, there were a lot of problems, but all my focus on dealing with those particular problems. And the other problems we’re talking about from immigration to guns and the other things you mentioned are longterm problems. They’ve been around a long time, and what we’re going to be able to do, God willing, is now began one at a time to focus on those as well, and whether it’s immigration or guns or a number of other problems that face the country.

But the fundamental problem is getting people some peace of mind so they can go to bed at night and not stare at the ceiling, wondering where they lost their health insurance, whether they’re going to lose some family member, whether they’re going to be in a position where they’re going to lose their home, because they can’t pay their mortgage, or the millions of people who are going to get thrown out of their homes because of the inability to pay the rent. So we’re going to move on these one at a time, try to do as many simultaneously as we can, but that’s the reason why I focused as I have. And here’s the deal, I think my Republican colleagues are going to have to determine whether or not we want to work together or they decide that the way in which they want to proceed is to just decide to divide the country, continue the politics of division. But I’m not going to do that. I’m just going to move forward and take these things as they come.

Zeke: (07:24)
A follow-up, Mr. President. Can your presidency be a success if you can’t make progress on those four challenges, climate change, immigration reform, gun control, voting rights?

Joe Biden: (07:34)
Well, I plan on making progress on all of them, but that’s going to be for the American people to decide. I doubt whether maybe you did, maybe others did. I thought many of you thought there was no possibility of my getting the plan I got passed, passed without any Republican votes. Pretty big deal. Got passed. Growing economy. People’s lives are changing. So let’s see what happens. All I know, I’ve been hired to solve problems, to solve problems, not create division.

This is the real coldheartedtruth, not the former coldheartedtruth before Trump became President without the majority vote.

The reformation of farm land does not steal anything like kputz said.

Under the bill, up to 32 million acres would move to Black ownership over a decade — nearly seven times the 4.7 million acres now in Black farms. A new USDA agency, the Equitable Land Access Service, would administer the program. The USDA would buy land from willing sellers at fair market value for use in the program. Up to 20,000 grants of 160 acres would be made annually through 2030. Recipients would be new or experienced Black farmers. Beginning farmers would be required to complete a training program.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States squandered both money and lives in its response to the coronavirus pandemic, and it could have avoided nearly 400,000 deaths with a more effective health strategy and trimmed federal spending by hundreds of billions of dollars while still supporting those who needed it.

That is the conclusion of a group of research papers released at a Brookings Institution conference this week, offering an early and broad start to what will likely be an intense effort in coming years to assess the response to the worst pandemic in a century.

U.S. COVID-19 fatalities could have stayed under 300,000, versus a death toll of 540,000 and rising, if by last May the country had adopted widespread mask, social distancing, and testing protocols while awaiting a vaccine, estimated Andrew Atkeson, economics professor at University of California, Los Angeles.

Authoritarianism has come to the United States of America.

Georgia state troopers arrested state Rep. Park Cannon on Thursday as she knocked on Gov. Brian Kemp’s door, interrupting his livestreamed announcement that he had signed an elections bill into law.

The officers forcibly removed Cannon, a Democrat from Atlanta, dragging her through the Capitol and pushing her into a police car. She was charged with obstruction of law enforcement and disrupting General Assembly sessions, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Cannon was with several other protesters when she knocked on Kemp’s office door, saying the public should be allowed to witness the announcement of the bill signing. The sweeping legislation requires ID for absentee ballots, limits drop boxes and changes early voting hours.

Tamara Stevens, who was with Cannon, said she wasn’t being disrespectful or causing a disturbance.

“She knew he was signing a bill that would affect all Georgians — why would he hide behind closed doors? This isn’t a monarchy,” Stevens said. “You have a women of color fighting for the rights of Georgians and they arrested her for knocking on the door because she wanted to witness our governor sign the bill.”

A non drama President.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden at his first news conference Thursday left the door open to backing fundamental changes in Senate procedure to muscle key parts of his agenda like immigration and voting rights past Republican opposition “if there’s complete lockdown and chaos.”

Even as his administration navigates the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting economic damage, Biden is grappling with how to deliver on a host of big promises despite a razor-thin Senate majority. He teased that changes to Senate rules that would allow bills to pass with fewer votes may be necessary for him to achieve some of those goals.

“If there’s complete lockdown and chaos, as a consequence of the filibuster, then we’re going to have to go beyond what I’m talking about,” he said.

Despite strong poll numbers, Biden faces headwinds in delivering on his ambitious legislative agenda. His party’s congressional majorities are narrow, Republican opposition appears entrenched and not all Democrats are aligned in reforming Senate rules on the filibuster.

Biden at first backed a modification — but not elimination — of the arcane procedural tactic. But he then suggested, at least on certain issues, he would go further, saying the filibuster — which requires 60 votes to pass legislation in the Senate — was being “abused in a gigantic way” by Republicans.

“I want to get things done. I want to get them done consistent with what we promised the American people,” said Biden, who spent decades in the Senate. “I am going to say something outrageous: I have never been particularly poor at calculating how to get things done in the United States Senate.”

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer at his own press conference Thursday declined to lean too heavily into filibuster changes, only saying that “everything, everything is on the table.”

And West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, a moderate Democrat whose vote is critical, said he thought the rules were there to make sure “the big guy doesn’t pick on the little guy,” adding that he was trying to protect “basic civility.”

Biden’s own political future came up at the press conference as well. The 78-year-old president said for the first time his “plan is to run for reelection, that is my expectation.” But he made clear his focus was on the here and now and not a distant election.

“I am going to deal with all of those problems,” he pledged.

One key item on the list: Republican efforts to limit voting rights, an effort the president deemed “sick” and “un-American.” He argued that even GOP voters believe actions that make it harder for people to cast ballots are “despicable” attempts to undermine democracy.

The president was repeatedly pressed about the situation at the U.S.-Mexico border, where increasing numbers of young migrants have overwhelmed the government’s holding facilities. Biden promised better media access to the camps — once his administration has a better handle on things — as well as improvements to the nation’s immigration system and U.S. help to improve conditions in the migrants’ home countries.

Republicans are apparently still hellbent on insisting that Biden was mere moments away from total infirmity.

Here is National Review:

Elsewhere, Sean Hannity is kvetching that Biden referred to notes for some of his answers, apparently on the supposition that Biden was just being wheeled out as the public face of an administration that he's too senile to actually run himself. Down in the fever swamps, the big question is who's really running the White House these days? Kamala Harris? Bernie Sanders? The ghost of Karl Marx?

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

This is on the whack job right wing nutcase websites. And an obscure blogger.

The highly specific language also appears on the websites of all 15 executive departments. Press releases and other communications from the Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Defense, Education, Energy, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, Labor, State, Transportation, Treasury, and Veterans Affairs, and the Attorney General all exclusively refer to the Biden-Harris Administration, in lieu of only naming the president, which has been customary until now.

That language now appears to apply to all agencies that work with the federal government. The email provided to Outspoken and redacted to protect the identity of the source–who requested anonymity citing fears of repercussions in the workplace–was sent to a “bipartisan” federal agency established by Congress to deal in foreign relations and is not affiliated with the State Department.

The move raises eyebrows among those who believe President Biden is mentally unfit to serve and is being slowly pushed out and replaced by Vice President Kamala Harris. Since at least the beginning of the 2020 election cycle, and now into his first months as president, Biden has exhibited startling signs of mental decline, and possibly dementia, according to some medical experts.

In public appearances Biden often appears dazed, confused, has difficulty speaking and walking, and is rarely permitted to answer unscripted questions from journalists. He is also often accompanied by his wife, Jill Biden, who appears to frequently provide him a level cognitive support.

In another unprecedented move, Vice President Harris has been conducting solo phone calls with world leaders. This month, Harris spoke with the prime minister of Norway, Erna Solberg, without Biden present. Harris previously took calls alone with French President Emanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as well as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Harris also participated in the first bilateral meeting between the U.S. and Canada, an opportunity that previous vice presidents, including Biden, were not permitted.

In February, one European ambassador remarked to Politico that, “[Harris] will be seen by everyone as a potential president in waiting. Much more than in previous presidencies.”

Other critics see Harris’s elbowing into world affairs as unsettling. “World leaders expect to hear from the President of the United States, not the Vice President,” former Ambassador to Germany and former Acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell said to Outspoken. “There are certainly times when the Vice President has to step in but not for the introductory call.”

“The fact that the White House is instructing federal agencies to replace ‘Biden’ with ‘Biden-Harris’ after less than 60 days is indicative of the struggle Joe Biden is already having being President,” Grenell said. “This is a signal that he can’t do the job alone.”

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Biden spent much of the time at the press conference responding to questions on how he planned to work with Republicans on Capitol Hill who might use the filibuster to block his agenda. He received the most questions by far about the situation on the southern border, where ABC’s Cecilia Vega told Biden she had spoken to a 9-year-old who had walked to the US border all the way from his home in Honduras.

Biden said his administration would never “let them starve to death and stay on the other side. I’m not going to do it.”

Former Clinton’s aide James Carville said Thursday on MSNBC’s “The Beat” that the White House press corps questions at President Joe Biden’s press conference were “ridiculous.”

Carville also objected to the line of questions on the migrant surge at the U.S.-Mexico border.

On Biden being asked if he will run in 2024, Carville said, “Well, first of all, he’s going to say he’s going to run. He won’t be two months into a four-year term and say I’m not going to run. Then some fool asked if Harris would be his running mate, please. The White House press corps, I give a D-plus, and that’s only because I’m notoriously an easy grader. Some of this stuff was utterly ridiculous. I’m serious, Ari. No one is going to say I’m not running for reelection, so you’re a lame duck two months into your term?”

He added, “All the questions being driven by Fox News and Newsmax on the so-called border crisis, which is a border problem, not a crisis, and not one question about COVID. Again, I’m changing my D-plus to a D. The more I think about it, the worse it is.”

Household incomes have been helped by pandemic-relatedaid, while consumer spending recovers from a steep droplast year.

The Commerce Department is expected to report Friday that household income and spending both dived in February, partly reversing a surge in each category earlier this year. The declines will likely only be temporary.

Mr. Reagan, a skilled actor, performs better when working from a script. His first State of the Union Message, for example, was widely acclaimed as a masterly performance.

But when Mr. Reagan's press-conference misstatements became an issue earlier this year 1982, his aides decided that the edited, short segments of the conferences that were shown on evening television news programs were exaggerating the President's most fumbled answers. So they switched the press conferences to prime time, in the belief that Reagan in the round was better than Reagan edited by the networks.

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador blamed President Joe Biden for the migrant surge at the border.

López Obrador pointed out Biden’s campaign promises left migrants feeling like they could easily enter America.

“Expectations were created that with the Government of President Biden there would be a better treatment of migrants,” López Obrador said at a press conference. “And this has caused Central American migrants, and also from our country, wanting to cross the border thinking that it is easier to do so.”

López Obrador is not lying. A Honduran migrant caravan with thousands of people started making its way to the border right before Biden’s inauguration.

A senior Biden transition team official told the Hondurans to not come to America right now. The comment ticked off the Hondurans.

The caravan did not stop. They demanded, “the Biden government honors its commitment.”

Biden reiterated his stance a week ago: “Don’t come over. Don’t leave your town or city or community.”

Biden seems to forget (what a shock, right?) what he said in 2019: “We’re a nation that says, ‘You want to flee, and you’re fleeing oppression, you should come.'”

WASHINGTON — Within days of the launch of the Small Business Administration's new pandemic loan programs, the agency's inspector general started getting calls from banks trying to report fraud.

“We sat down with the executives at SBA to say we have a problem," Hannibal Ware, SBA's inspector general testified to the U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday.

Now almost a year later, Ware and his team have identified $78.1 billion in potentially fraudulent Economic Injury Disaster Loans and $3.6 billion in Paycheck Protection Program loans to possibly ineligible recipients. Ware said the fraud identified in the EIDL program in particular was "rampant."

Oil boomtown on the brink?

The Obama oil boom

By Chris Isidore January 28, 2015: 4:32 PM ET

The greatest oil boom in this nation's history has occurred during the tenure of self-proclaimed environmentalist Barack Obama.

Under Obama, the steady drop in U.S. oil production which had occurred virtually unchecked since 1971 has been reversed. Crude oil production has risen every year of his administration. It has jumped 72% since he took office, producing about 3.6 million additional barrels a day during that time.

Oil production has grown so much that last summer the nation caught and passed Saudi Arabia as the world's largest oil producer. Before Obama leaves office, domestic oil production could top the U.S. record set in 1970.

Crude truth behind oil's global boom

America's biggest oil boom came under Obama

By Matt Egan July 21, 2016: 3:50 PM ET

Donald Trump's potential energy secretary took President Obama to task for trying to "destroy" the U.S. oil boom.

Harold Hamm, a shale oil billionaire, gave a speech on Wednesday night at the GOP Convention arguing that Trump will become the first president to achieve American energy independence. "President Obama chose not to get it, and he has tried to destroy this renaissance and all of its benefits," Hamm said in Cleveland.

But the numbers tell a different story. Believe it or not, Obama has presided over the biggest increase in oil production in American history,

When he left office, he left behind, the longest economic recovery in history.

In his last 18 months, the economy created more jobs, than in the first three years of the Trump administration.

If only the FBI was paying attention and doing its fucking JOB:

WASHINGTON—The conservative-leaning social-media network Parler referred violent content from its platform to the FBI more than 50 times in the weeks before the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, the company said Thursday, following criticism that it failed to adequately police threats ahead of the deadly attack.

Parler in December began alerting the bureau to content suggesting the possibility of violence at the Capitol as Congress met to confirm President Biden’s victory, the company wrote in a letter to the House Oversight and Reform Committee, which is investigating Parler and its role in the siege.

The social-media site referred a number of posts to law enforcement, including one on Dec. 24 from a user who called for an “armed force” of 150,000 people to “react to the congressional events of January 6,” according to the letter, which included the post and communications with FBI officials among its exhibits and has been reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.

Parler said it forwarded to the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Jan. 2 a series of posts from a user saying he would be wearing body armor to the pro-Trump rally on Jan. 6. “It’s no longer a protest,” Parler quoted the post as saying. “This is a final stand where we are drawing the red line at Capitol Hill. I trust the American people will take back the USA with force and many are ready to die to take back #USA.”

Crude Oil in the United States

The United States is the largest producer of crude oil, producing about 12.108 million barrels per day. The main producers of crude oil in the U.S. are Alaska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and Texas. The U.S. surpassed both Russia and Saudi Arabia in 2018 to become the world’s largest crude oil producer.

While the United States is the largest producer of oil, it is also the largest consumer of oil. The U.S. consumes about 19.69 million barrels of crude oil per day. Because this is more oil than the U.S. produces each day, the oil must be imported from other countries.

Joe Biden is the face of the United States. But Joe Biden no longer looks like Joe Biden. And he no longer sounds like Joe Biden — especially in the long and excruciating silences when he forgets what he’s saying or fumbles for his cue cards.

The United States no longer looks like itself either. The sorry theatrical display of Biden’s first press conference is an accurate image of what has happened to American democracy. A carefully limited number of carefully selected journalists asked carefully vetted questions. A carefully chosen president read carefully written answers off his cue cards, and carefully avoided taking any questions from Fox or Newsmax.

The White House is no longer the home of democracy. It’s a reality TV series in a care home. Biden mused about how the country has lost its way, about how it used to be so much better, but he seemed fatalistically feeble, as if it was all too much and all too late, and he has already given up. As if the nation is in its twilight years.

‘We’ve got so much more to do,’ he said, as he continually does. But he also ad-libbed, ‘I’ve never been able to plan three-and-a-half, four years ahead.’

How funny. How sadly reflective of the senility of American democracy that he thought that was a smart answer. How shamefully embarrassing for the compliant, complicit media that not one of his questioners bothered to ask whether an inability to plan for the future was what the American people need in their president — especially a 78-year-old who says he expects to run, if that is really the word, in 2024, when he will be 82.

Get rid of minority rule and get rid of the filibuster and

Corporate profits account for a growing share of the total economy and wages a declining share, with multi-billionaire executives and investors like Bezos taking home the lion’s share.

The power shift can be reversed – but only with stronger labor laws, tougher trade deals, and a renewed commitment to antitrust.

The Biden administration and congressional Democrats appear willing. The House has just passed the toughest labor law reforms in over a generation. Biden’s new trade representative, Katherine Tai, promises that trade deals will protect the interests of American workers rather than exporters. And Biden is putting trustbusters in critical positions at the Federal Trade Commission and in the White House.

I’d like to think America is at a tipping point similar to where it was some hundred twenty years ago when the ravages and excesses of the Gilded Age precipitated what became known as the Progressive Era. Then, reformers reversed the course of American capitalism for the next 70 years, making it work for the many rather than the few.

Today’s progressive activists – in Washington, at Amazon’s Bessemer warehouse, and elsewhere around the nation – may be on the verge of doing the same.

Former Catch 22.

"Trump 45" modeling himself after Milo Minderbinder, the notorious mess hall commander in the novel who turns his quartermaster gig into a worldwide black market business that treats the war as a personal profit center.

In truth, though, Trump is showing evidence, day-by-day, that he is more like Major Major Major, the base commander. Major Major was so frightened by the rude treatment he received that he  became increasingly isolated from those who were supposed to serve him.

Consider Trump's protracted tweet attack on Attorney General Jeff Sessions, one of his earliest and strongest backers who gave up a 20-year career in the U.S. Senate  to join the administration.

Trump has suggested six ways from Sunday that he thinks Sessions has served him poorly; that Sessions doesn't deserve the office; and that he would not have appointed him had he known that Sessions would not have his back in fending off charges of colluding with the Russians to help him win the presidency.

From the alky's new favorite collection of butt buddies - The National Review:

Biden’s Woeful Press Conference

The president brazenly lied about the border crisis.

He blamed Trump for reducing shelters for migrants, a truly absurd charge. Trump only closed the surge facilities set up during the crisis of 2018–2019 because they were no longer needed, and, besides, Democrats agitated to shut down these facilities.

Overall, Biden gave no indication that he understands how he has stoked the current crisis or that he knows how to address it. His emphasis was on improved processing of the migrants that are coming, rather than persuading them to stay home. That will inevitably mean more families in Central America deciding to send their children on the harrowing journey north, whether Biden wants to acknowledge it or not.
